For 3 and a half years, Democrats have told us Joe Biden is sharp and on top of his game.  So you know this is just a ruse that somehow they are in disbelief that debate performance happened last week.  These people are the ultimate snake oil peddlers.    An employee for Blue Cross in Tennessee wins a big lawsuit for losing her job over refusing a covid jab, wait until you hear what her title was and her area of expertise.  This is sooooo good.    The new owners of the Plaza in KC were flanked by Mayor Q at a news conference announcing their takeover and $100 million renovation.  As our friend www.tonyskansascity.com points out today, that's a far different look than the radical BLM Mayor Q 4 years ago that led to the downfall of our once glorious district.   Uraguay beats Team USA at Arrowhead and the whole world is freaking out.  Only soccer could provide this much drama.    Patrick Mahomes logo is everywhere, the Royals open against the Rays and the Royals' richest owner and his Boston Celtics partners are selling their basketball team.

Which types of global dishes can you pair with South American wines? What's one of the best but little-known Chilean wine regions you need to try? Which types of wine do they make in other South American countries, such as Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil? In this episode of the Unreserved Wine Talk podcast, I'm chatting with Amanda Barnes, author of The South America Wine Guide. You can find the wines we discussed at https://www.nataliemaclean.com/winepicks   Giveaway One of you is going to win a copy of Amanda's beautiful hardcover book, The South America Wine Guide. To qualify, all you have to do is email me at natalie@nataliemaclean.com and let me know that you've posted a review of the podcast. I'll choose two people randomly from those who contact me.  Good luck!   Highlights How did Argentina's flagship white wine, Torrontés, develop and where is it grown? Which types of food pair best with Torrontés and Malbec? How does the iconic Argentinian empanada vary across different regions? What is unique about how Fernet is consumed in Argentina? How did the pandemic contribute to the craft gin and craft vermouth movement in Argentina? How do the wine production volume and cultural attitudes towards wine vary between Argentina and Chile? What were the main challenges that were uncovered by the discovery of Carmenère in Chile? How did Tannat become the signature grape of Uraguay, and what's unique about its growing requirements? How did Peru become the first wine country in South America, and what's behind the current wine renaissance? Which wines from Bolivia should you try, and what's behind their unique characteristics? How has the Brazilian wine industry evolved over the years? What does Amanda love about mountain white wines like Altos Las Hormigas Blanco? What is it about Viñedos de Alcohuaz that gives it a beautiful tasting experience? Why is an ice bag Amanda's favourite wine gadget?   Key Takeaways I enjoyed hearing Amanda's recommendations for which types of global dishes you can pair with South American wines. The highly aromatic Torrontes can handle equally flavourful dishes. Amanda has inspired me to try more wines from Chile's Elqui Valley. It's amazing that some vineyards are planted at 2,200 metres above sea level. I was interested to learn more about the types of wine they make in other South American countries, such as Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. I didn't realize that Peru was the first wine region in South America.   About Amanda Barnes Amanda Barnes is an award-winning British journalist and editor who specializes in wine and travel writing. She is an expert in South American wine and regions and a regular correspondent for international wine and travel publications (including Decanter, Fodor's, SevenFifty, The Guardian & The Telegraph). Director J.A. Bayona discusses his latest film — and the country of Spain's official submission to this year's Academy Awards — “Society of the Snow.” Director of Photography Pedro Luque and Sound Designer Oriol Tarragó also join us to discuss how they crafted this riveting retelling of the infamous 1972 Andes flight disaster, where a team of rugby players from Uraguay had to do the unthinkable to survive. Realism was a big priority for Bayona, so the production was a challenging, sometimes even grueling experience.“That was the moment — first day of shooting — that we realized how hard this was going to be… We had real snow, we have the cold to catch the breath of the actors, but then we got into the [airplane] set. All the seats had crammed against the cockpit and we realized that we needed to fit 29 people inside that space and one camera crew. So there was no way of shooting those scenes. Like, it was not possible! So actually that was the moment that we decided that we had to shoot the film as if it was a documentary.”—J.A. Success is the opportunity to elevate what other people are doing. -Catharine Smith This week's story is about a woman who has been leading others since she was in her 20's. From her humble roots in the midwest to traveling to Argentina, Brazil and Uraguay on a Fulbright scholarship, Catharine Smith has always been focused on social action. The time she spent in these countries shaped her views about how economic cooperation can lead to better outcomes for all, especially women and families. The stories women in these countries shared with her are etched in her mind and have followed her on a career path that includes The Harvard Center for Primary Care and the Clinton Foundation, where Catharine was part of a team that worked with faith leaders in the south to create a deeper understanding of our nation's opioid epidemic. These days, you'll find Catharine leading the way as the Executive Director of The Termeer Foundation, one of the most influential foundations in the world. The Termeer Foundation is named after biotech genius, Henri Termeer, the Dutch biotechnology genius and CEO of Genzyme. Created in honor of Henri after his sudden death in 2017 by friends, colleagues and mentees, The Termeer Foundation continues Henri's lifelong work around finding cures for rare diseases, patient centered care and continued mentoring of the next generation of biotech leaders.

Chandra Savage Hello and welcome to mo wine mishaps, and more. I am your host Chandra Savage. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Tonight is so special because, on June 19, 2020, I debuted this podcast. Can you believe it, we hear it's a year later. We've tasted so many beautiful wines, and tonight is not going to be an exception. Tonight we're going to be having the 2019 Garzon Tannat from Uruguay. It is a dry red wine from the Basque region of Uraguay. But before we get into that have some notes that I will share with you. So, this particular wine has been aged in oak for about 20 months, it is a Tannat Reserva, so there's going to be a lot of oak on there you know that straight off the bat, but it is also a highly tannic wine and tannins are chemical compounds that are found in the fruit and the stems and the seeds of the grapes. And so when they process the wine they keep the stems and seeds intact with skins and that produces the tannins and red wines tend to be highly tannic or more tannic than white wines, so it gives like a bitter taste. But this tonight is the top of tannic wines that I've had, for sure. And a little fun fact for all of you, wines with more tannins have more antioxidants and more resveratrol which preserves your heart health. So, we're being responsible we're drinking responsibly, we're taking care of our health responsibly, and preserving our hearts. That's why I love you all to share all of that information with you. Before we get into the good good. Also, if you're listening to tonight's episode, I want you to take a screenshot for me, and shoot it over to me on Instagram @mowineforu, and let me know like with some of your key takeaways from this evening as we get into the wine, and I also have a very special announcement free at the end so stay with me all the way to the end so you can hear all about the extra fabulosity coming your way. So, let's get into it. This wine. Let me tell you, you have to give this wine so much air. This is a wine that you break out the decanter and you pour the wine into the decanter and leave it for hours and hours, even a day if you had the time, but ain't nobody got time for that. I decanted this wine for about two and a half hours, just to get it rounded out and take off some of the edges because this is a hard wine. This is a heavy hitter, heavy heavy hitter. So I tried to air it out as much as I could. But the show must go on. So let's get into it. The appearance is gorgeous, it's like a dark, It's almost like blackish red, it is so, so deep, deep and dark and mysterious looking. Hmm. So let's get into the nose because the nose, always knows. I'm going to give it a swirl because clearly, we didn't have a day to decant this wine so I'm just going to, I even use the aerator, just so you know. Yeah, we made a lot of time for this puppy. I always loved that part. So it's full of BlackBerry on the nose. There's some leather in there some plum. This and some earthy undertones. Also some herbs in there so there's, there's a lot of stuff going on in this on the nose and low key, very low key. I also smell a little bit of ham on it but that could be just me. It smells divine, so let's taste it. all that this wine, baby. This is for a grown folk show. I don't want any of the young ones coming for tonight because it's not for you. Do you hear me? This one is highly acidic. Highly tannic highly acidic. This is a tough mama JAMA, I'm telling you, but the flavors are beautiful, it's like a jammy plum and Blackberry. So, with the nose picked up the tongue picked up as well. There's also some like licorice in there that I didn't pick up on the nose, which is odd, but the nose is always nose. And so maybe it's just a little bit, but there's definitely some smoking there and some herbs may be like mint, and most of all, there is some chocolate. I love all of those flavors in my wines I gravitate towards wines that have more smoke more leather more plans or herbs. I love it all. I'm here for it. I just don't have time for this baby to air out like this. No one does. So, but it's all good. I love it, you're supposed to save it on a cooler side so about 60 degrees. I tried, I tried Yeah, but the show must go on, like I said, I got this wine from Whole Foods, I got it from Whole Foods for like 1499 excellent price point, alcohol content that's kind of high on this is about 14% Alcohol. But, man, what a beautiful wine to have with a meal. you have to have this wine with food, or a heavy, heavy hardier teas like blue cheese, or maybe like parmesan or ice ago. You've got to you got to break it up, you got to break up this heavy hitter right here. You can also pair it with any type of like barbecue beef stews, lamb, or if you are not a carnivore, you would have to have like a mushroom a hearty mushroom meal, or a mushroom burger. This might be at the top of the big girls. Shout out to the big girl wine lovers out there, you know, I call them really robust, larger-than-life wines, I call them big girls so that's what I mean by shout out to the big girls and this wine is Big Mama right here. This one is definitely on the top, and I love it and I'm so happy I got to share it with you. You know, it's very intense. The flavors are really pronounced the Romans are pronouns. There's just so much plum and chocolate and smoke and leather in there that it's, it's tough, I promise you, it is. But it's super dry so there's no sweetness in it at all. But it is beautiful in the finish. Oh my gosh, the finish is phenomenal. It just wants to stay, and then wants to move in, you know you can tell a lot about a wine about how it finishes when you drink it, and the long finish is normally an indication that it is a good value, high-quality wine, and this data zone, tonight is no exception. It's a beautiful line, and I'm so happy I got to share it with you. Now for a little storytime so confession, my first crush in elementary school. He was from, little guy. And that is the first time I've ever heard of this boy, we were in second grade, third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, and sixth grade, we were in all our classes together, throughout elementary school, and I had the biggest crush on him. I remember I asked my mom to make the sandwiches and like little hearts, I could give them to him, or you know when you go to school you can buy your friend a rose or buy them some candy. All the money went to this boy. And we even went, we even started junior high school together. And when I didn't see him all summer from when we graduated elementary school to when we got to junior high school. You could tell me that he was not going to be my boyfriend forever. And he gave me my first kiss. So Uruguay is very near and dear to my heart. Even though that gentleman moved away, he actually left after the first year of junior high school and moved back to undergrad so, but I know he's back in the States, we've been in touch over the years, and he has a beautiful family he's a beautiful life, and I'm so glad that we get to speak now and again. So that's just a little fun fact for you guys, little tidbit about me. Anywho, big announcement, big, huge. I'm putting a little something together for you. And I have created a waitlist. I am in the process of developing a community for the MO wine this is, and it's not going to be on Facebook. So if you want to participate. I encourage you to get on the waitlist. You can find the information on the waitlist. I'm on my bio at Instagram, you can go to the link tree and get on the waitlist, you know, last week was a pretty good week for me pretty big week, I released wind buys volume two-sided about that. We're working on a lot of things a lot of fun things for us. So, If you found any value, please leave me a review on your favorite podcast platform rate review, share, tell a friend to tell a friend, and I'm going to see all of you next week. I'm gonna hear from all of you next week because I definitely want to hear about it. And I will be waiting to hear from you. Reach out to me on Instagram at mo wine for you.
