Electoral changes are a-coming in Wales, but that's not the only challenge facing politicians in Cymru. It's a country of contrasts, from the rugged scars of the Valleys and the beauty of Bannau Brycheiniog to the urban bustle of Cardiff and Swansea, and the bookish haven of Hay-on-Wye. Naomi Smith is joined by journalist Will Hayward for a timely stock-take of political life in a part of the country that we Quiet Rioters love, and a look at the contrasting fortunes and, indeed, difficulties looming for its political leaders. Keir Starmer has been meeting the new First Minister Eluned Morgan as part of a two day trip to Wales. While the trip included a visit to a wind farm, Starmer quickly faced questions about the fate of steel workers in Port Talbot. What does this challenge tell us about Starmer's Industrial Strategy and his relationship with the devolved nations? Could Welsh Labour soon face the same anti-incumbency threat that the Conservatives and the SNP faced?  James Heale is joined by Tom Baldwin, Starmer's biographer, and Ruth Mosalski, political editor at WalesOnline. Produced by Patrick Gibbons.

On today's podcast, It's Only Sport host Martin Devlin tackles stories brewing in both men's and women's rugby that are making waves in New Zealand, with even some in the UK turning their heads. First off, Devlin delivers a sermon questioning comments made by Black Ferns co-captain Ruahei Demant, who's demanded that New Zealand Rugby invest more money in the women's game. While there are strong arguments for and against, Devlin feels that whether or not women's rugby receives more money comes down to a simple economic equation - profitability. Then, Devlin is joined by UK rugby writer Chris Jones who discusses All Black Jordie Barrett signing with Leinster as part of a six-month sabbatical, Mark 'Watto' Watson offers his thoughts on Demant's comments, Matt Gunn does his best to be positive about Penrith Panther Taylan May and his social media antics, and WalesOnline football writer Tom Coleman talks Wrexham A.F.C. earning promotion to the third division of English football. As well as that - as per usual - Devlin and producer Lachlan Waugh argue a variety of sporting topics on What Has More Chance Of Happening and the Tight 5. All that and much more!

Following his previous book ‘Lockdown Wales', Will Hayward (Welsh Affairs Editor, WalesOnline) has taken on the challenge of writing about one of the most contested and salient topics that came to the fore just before and during the Covid pandemic - Welsh independence. Long considered a minority interest commanding only 10-15% support, with even only ⅔ of Plaid Cymru supporters showing support for independence, the topic burst onto wider public discussion after a series of well attended rallies across Wales in 2019. Combined with an increasingly fractious relationship between a unionist Welsh Government and a UK Government intent on re-centralising power post-Brexit, support for Welsh independence gained a surprising amount of support from within the ranks of Welsh Labour and became the official policy of the Green Party. But as with all constitutional questions, for each strongly held opinion, there are a whole raft of complicated, unsexy questions that rarely get the scrutiny or depth of discussion that they deserve. In his book, Will asks the difficult questions of those on all sides of the argument while carefully laying out the facts and the quandaries of those people whose opinions are not so entrenched. Could there be more Welsh news on St David's Day? We've got Andy McGeady and Sean Holley welcome Paul Eddison and Simon Thomas of the WalesOnline to discuss the Guinness Six Nations, Cardiff's name change and a packed weekend of action from the Guinness PRO14 and much, much further away in Super Rugby land. Name changer: Cardiff Blues will be no more from August, with Cardiff Rugby the new name for the Welsh region going forward. Sean and Simon talk us through what is a major move by the team Slam surprise? Wales are now triple crown winners and needs wins against Italy and France to capture a Grand Slam in the Six Nations that nobody would have thought possible back in November. But…how did the officiating impact Saturday's win over England and what about World Rugby referee chief Joel Jutge's admission of the errors? Will France be ready to face Wales in Round 5? Les Bleus have been downed by Covid, but they must prove their bubble won't burst again. Paul Eddison explains what's happened so far Ireland cruise in Italy, but will this young Azzurri team be better in the long-term despite their results so far? Leinster's BP win over Glasgow (we'll touch on the Adam Hastings' red card) means they could make it impossible for Ulster to beat them to top spot in Conference A if they win this weekend Zebre are up to the heady position of 4th but Benetton are denied a first win of the season after a resilient Connacht strike late Edinburgh and Scarlets play out a cracker, but Sean can't fathom how Richard Cockerill's team didn't win! Staying in Conference B, Munster can seal their place in the Guinness PRO14 final with a win over Connacht this weekend Oh, and Ospreys have a new CEO. Over to you Sean! In September of 1977, Kirk Anderson a 21 year old American Mormon missionary is reported missing in Ewell, a town just south and west of London. Three days later, Kirk turns up again. Reports emerged that he had been kidnapped by a woman who was obsessed with him, and forced to have sex with her. But Joyce McKinney was a petite pretty blonde woman, and the British press and public were incredulous at the idea that anyone would have objected to her company for a few days and nights. So, was Joyce McKinney a woman who was just trying to get her man back, or was she a deranged stalker who had kidnapped and raped a man? ********** Thanks to our sponsors for today’s episode: Sign up today with Better Help to start professional online counselling. Our new rugby show gets an outside perspective on Irish rugby and the game in general.  Joe Schmidt is leaving and we're all very sad. Before he goes though, we have a Six Nations and a World Cup to look forward to. This week, we have a look at how the Six Nations are looking through the prism of the November Internationals.  We take a close look at Wales with Ben James of Walesonline, following their phenomenal autumn, winning four from four, meaning it's 9 wins in a row for Warren Gatland's team.  We also present to you our final team Of The November Internationals.  If you enjoy the show, please rate and leave a comment. Ever wonder how to reverse engineer the customer acquisition process to drive real value? After meeting Ben Roberts at Engage Prague, we connected immediately. Ben is just on a social media roll and I'm honored to be part of his growth trajectory.  It's clear that today, there's a strong call for transparency and reinventing the process of bringing new business. People have been buying from people for years.  Today's audiences expect more from a brand, from a service provider, from a company. Ben is fortunate to lead marketing for a company that 'gets it.' They've reverse engineered the entire process of consumer acquisition and it's inspiring. What's it like to work with a business that has lost only one customer in 2.5 years?  After hearing from Lucy live from WebSummit about the transformation of tech leaders in their approach to brand transparency, this podcast with Ben Roberts couldn't be more logical.   A Bit About the Guest Ben M Roberts is the founder and host of ‘The Marketing Buzzword Podcast’, Head of Marketing at Talkative, a SaaS Technology Start-Up and an international conference speaker.   In 2018, he was named WalesOnline’s no.1 business professional male under 35. He also writes for notable online business and marketing publications such as business.com, allbusiness.com, and socialmediatoday.com.   Ben is a huge believer in your destiny being in your own hands, and that you reap what you sow. He has worked (and continues) to build a consistent personal brand, which has helped open doors, that previously seemed closed to him. You are your greatest asset, and Ben wants to help people take control of their personal brands. Ben is just a true entrepreneur. He's been growing, hustling, and it's inspiring to watch his success.  GREAT QUOTES FROM THE SHOW Build the relationship online first, then in person, then develop it and cultivate back online Using social selling approach in the real world.
