Come with me as I return home from my trip to Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom and Epcot. I explore the reasons why I will not be renewing my pass to the Magic Kingdom.
Love it or hate it it’s time for it’s a small World over at fantasy land in Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom. I love this ride for the Mary Blair art as well as the intricate costuming on all of the puppets. Plus I’m just a huge fan of different countries and their cultures you know that end of the ride where you get to see farewell written in multiple languages very cool. Check out WalrusCarp.com for fun a Disney Snack clothing and let’s get this song stuck in our head...it’s a small world after all!
“One Nation Under God”. That was the original idea for what would become Walt Disney World's Hall of Presidents. The original concept would have been an addition to Disneyland's Main Street USA. Library Street would have featured Edison Square and The Hall of Presidents, as seen on 1958 Disneyland park maps. The original concept was wax figures of all the US Presidents, which lead to the idea of animating the models. Those thoughts and beliefs lead to the first Audio-Animatronic figure in human form: Abraham Lincoln. That figure was the most advanced ever produced and featured in the Illinois Pavilion at the 1964 world's fair. The attraction relocated to Disneyland as Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and guests can still experience an updated version of that original. With Walt Disney World's construction in 1971, technology had advanced enough to complete Walt's Original vision of the “Hall of Presidents.” The plans from Disneylands Liberty Street and Edison Square were revised and reworked to become The Magic Kingdoms Liberty Square. The original Hall of presidents featured all US Presidents through Richard Nixon, the sitting President when Walt Disney World Opened in 1971. A brief history of Walt Disney's Hall of Presidents The show remained unchanged, focused on the early history of the United States for 22 years. In 1993 the show was completely updated and focused on more current issues. In addition, Bill Clinton, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George Bush were addicted to the Presidential lineup, bringing us up to date. Since then, the Hall of Presidents has been updated for each new administration. In 2001 George W Bush was added, and in 2009 Barack Obama lent his voice to the attraction recording a short speech and reciting the Oath of office of the Presiden to the United States. The 2009 version also included an extensive update to the lighting and projection systems, the original Abraham Lincoln speech was restored, and George Washington became the third speaking President. In 2017 Donald Trump was added, reciting the Oath of Office and a short speech. This edition of SamsDisneyDiary features the 2017-2021 version of the attraction. Presented for Historical reference, if history serves correctly, the Hall of presidents should see a scheduled refurbishment sometime in late January 2021 and reopen in time for the 4th of July 2021 with a new President. But, the Covid-19 Pandemic has us living in uncertain times; either way, look for The Hall of Presidents to be on the refurbishment list at Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom soon. The refurb is a standard procedure and nothing out of the ordinary, though I'm sure we will see some attention-grabbing headlines “Hall of Presidents Closes.” Be sure to subscribe to SamsDisneyDiary and we will have the latest updates as soon as possible.
Disney - Walt Disney Imagineering announced this month that it will be rewriting the Jungle Cruise attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom. The changes will see the addition of an animatronic Jungle skipper to the popular Adventureland attractions but will not include the stars of the upcoming "Jungle Cruise" feature film. Disneyland - The Annual Pass Program at Disneyland Resort has been ended, with all passes cancelled immediately with refund offered for all. Disney World - Park Hopping returned at Walt Disney World, as the resort also is introducing a new ticket discount offer for Florida residents. - Disney announced that it will end its complementary Disney's Magical Express bus service to and from the Orlando International Airport for its Disney hotel guests at the end of 2021. - They also annouced that starting later in the year, Disney's hotel guests will get 30 minutes of Early Theme Park Entry to all four theme parks, every day, in a replacement of the Extra Magic Hours Program. - Epcot will get a new exhibit in February, as the new "The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure." was announced. It will be based on the Disney-Pixar movie Soul. - Also at Epcot, after the breakdown and removal of the Donald Duck animatronic in the Gran Fiesta Tour starring the 3 Caballeros late last year, fans have noticed that all 3 of the animatronics were removed this week and replaced with Cardboard cutouts. I would expect this to be only temporary for maintenance of these animatronics, who predate this attraction by more than 40 years. - Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle shared two of the first live photos from inside the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel, now under construction at the resort. - Disney announced that Festival of the Lion King will return to Disney's Animal Kingdom this summer. - Plans are moving ahead for Evermore Orlando Resort on the 1,100-acre site which was former the Villas at Grand Cypress, near Walt Disney world. The completed resort is estimated to have 10,000 rooms. US - Legoland Florida has announced it's building a roof over it's Miniland walk-through attraction. - SeaWorld San Diego has debuted "Sesame Street Parade of Lights Drive-Thru" on Friday through Sunday evenings in mid January. And from February 6th it will re-open to day guests as a zoo, with select animal exhibits and shows but no rides in operation. - ICON Park, on International Drive in Orlando, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony earlier in the month for the ICON Park Slingshot and the 430 feet tall ICON Park Drop Tower. Japan - Universal Studios Japan has postponed the grand opening of its Super Nintendo World land indefinitely, due to the proliferation of Covid cases around Osaka. It was due to open on the 4th of February, and continues to be in soft opening. International - Specifcations for Falcon's Flight, the flagship attraction for the new Six Flags Qiddiya park that is now scheduled to open in 2023. The Falcon’s Flight "will travel across approximately 4km, feature a vertical cliff dive maneuver into a 160m-deep valley using magnetic motor acceleration (LSM technology), and achieve unprecedented speeds of 250+ km/h," -Universal Studios Beijing has announced it's major construction is complete, and is on track to open this year. - Disneyland Paris has postponed its planned reopening due to the persistence of new Covid cases in Europe. It's now targetting an April 2 reopening. - Bollywood Parks Dubai will reopen to guests on January 21 and the park has added nine new rides, led by the world's tallest swing ride.
Are The Muppets about to announce something big? Could it have something to do with Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and the Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom's Liberty Square? What better way to ring in the new year than with a party? After a long hiatus (sorry!), we are back this week with one of our favorite segments: the wacky, hypothetical Disney questionnaire we call a Mad Q Party. Join us and special guest Aaron Wallace as we pose and then answer ten questions on topics ranging from Muppet remakes of Disney films, to LEGO sets we'd like to see Disney release, to Disneyland attractions we're going to view differently once the pandemic has ended. Also on this week's show, we kick off a new segment called "Countdown to the 50th," in which we will take a closer look at groundbreaking elements of Walt Disney World that opened with the resort when it debuted to the public 50 years ago. This week we highlight Cinderella Castle by sharing ten facts about this iconic structure. Plus, Aaron joins us for a game called "The Resort Report." Come play along and join the fun now! This month, we are going back to the late 1980s to discuss a much-discussed book of tales: The Haunted Mansion's Ghost Gallery. This collection of stories was developed by Cast Members from the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion attraction, and it represented their attempt to describe all of the denizens of the Mansion. We'll discuss the history of the collection, the development of the stories, and we'll read a few excerpts. Plus - we list our favorite graveyard ghosts, and we discuss the new merchandise that is hitting the shelves.

Let’s Fix Work Episode 68 This week I welcome Dan Cockerell to the show. Once upon a time, Dan was the VP of Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom. He is now an Executive Coach, Keynote Speaker, and Leadership Mentor. Because this is a podcast about leadership and work, it was only fitting to have an ex-Disney executive on to talk about leadership. In this episode, we talk about how and why Disney became the gold standard of employee experience, training, and development. Then we talk in-depth about dilemmas versus problems, as well as professional detachment and some ways Dan is currently fixing work. So if you want to learn from someone who knows a thing or two about the gold standard of work and how to fix it, then sit back and listen to this episode of Let’s Fix Work. In this episode, you’ll hear: What makes Disney the gold standard regarding employee experience, training, and development About corporations that provide such great wealth but also struggle at the bottom end of the spectrum to meet certain basic needs and why it happens The difference between a problem and a dilemma How Dan looks at dilemmas and some ways he is currently fixing work What do you do if the labor pool isn't meeting your standards Dan’s advice to the 20-year-old version of himself Resources from this episode: DanCockerell.com To receive Dan’s article of the week, text DANAOW to 44222 Dan’s Podcast: https://dancockerell.com/blog/podcast/ Dan Cockerell on LinkedIn

Like Disneyland’s main street USA, there is something magical about a walk down Main Street. While different than Disneyland, Walt Disney world Main Street has a charm all its own… it starts with the daily welcome show. The welcome sow is extended onto Main Street with the Main Street Trolley Show. Several times each morning, the citizens of Main Street perform a song a dance routine at various locations along Main Street. While the shows take place daily, there are special sessional performances including a Holiday Show. Sometimes timing is everything, and there is nothing better than strolling down Main Street and hearing the trolley show music. A perfect opportunity to take a few minutes and enjoy exactly where you are: Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom right in the middle of Main Street USA. On the fourth day of Christmas, Sam’s Diary gave to me.. Magic Kingdoms Holiday Trolley Show!
The Muppets are coming, the Muppets are coming… This past October (2016) saw the debut of “The Muppets Present… Great Moments in American History” at Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom. The show takes place daily at the Magic Kingdom in Liberty Square, near the Hall of Presidents. The approximately 10 minute long live show has multiple versions, currently “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” and “The Signing of the Declaration of Independence”. Multiple versions of the show provide some re-watchability and provide room for additional versions of the show. These shows rotate with multiple show times daily. Show times typically start at 9:30am and are scheduled multiple times with the last around 1:50. The 1:50 show is typically the last before the Festival of Fantasy Parade which starts at 3:00. Check your times guide, there may be one last show after the parade. Be sure to check out the full video at www.samsdisneydiary.com and in the bonus section of the app,

"Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." – Walt Disney That famous quote holds true not only at Disneyland, but at every Disney Park around the globe. With all of the recent changes in Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom, I was recently able to do something not possible just a few short months ago. Sure I experienced the all new “Festival of Fantasy Parade” at Magic Kingdom but more interesting, I experienced it with a reserved viewing location via FastPass+. I love the parade, and I love FastPass+. Now remember, I’m not Media. I have no special access. I’m just a fan like all of you, so my best bet to get a good spot for the parade? Anyone who considers themselves a fan of theme parks probably has spent a lot of time analyzing them. We marvel at how attraction designers use technology to bring the our favorite stories and characters to life. But, fans can also take the analysis a step further and take a look at the parks from a literary and social angle as well. For instance, what does "It's A Small World" have to do with the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's? On this week's show, we welcome the author of "The Thinking Fan's Guide to Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom," Aaron Wallace. While most travel guidebooks are aimed at first-timers, Aaron's book is aimed someone looking to find information beyond wait times and ride ratings. Aaron takes a scholarly look at each attraction in the Magic Kingdom and the stories behind them. On this week's show, he'll share some of what you'll find in his new book. We also have two Live Trip Reports this week.... one from the opening day of Six Flags Great Adventure and one from the opening day of Luna Park on Coney Island. Both of these reports have an authentic "Jersey" feel to them! Plus, Mike just got back from a unique trip to Walt Disney World where he got to explore New Fantasyland and try out the upgraded Test Track at EPCOT. Plus, he has some stories about chaperoning 30 high school students who were set loose on the Walt Disney World Resort. All this, plus a whole lot more on this all-new episode of the Original Theme Park Podcast!
