In the third episode of our series 'OutSTANDing Stories', Emily Savage interviews Rob Fitzpatrick, a social science student and current auditor of the Literary & Historical Society in UCD. Rob chats about overcoming his early difficulties of starting as a fresher in the college and the endless benefits of engaging in society life and fostering supportive connections, which doesn't necessarily have to be limited to the LGBTQ soc. While Rob feels like his experiences have shaped the direction of his studies, he also chats about the importance of choosing a path that speaks to your own personal goals and dreams rather than one you think you should be limited to or feel compelled to do, solely based on identity. Rob’s drumming career started at the age of 7 years old when he started studying percussion at The Hochstein School of Music in his hometown of Rochester, NY under the instruction of famed Chuck Mangione drummer Vincent Ruggiero. From there, during his high school years Rob studied percussion at The Eastman School of Music, and music education at Nazareth College. Through all of these years, Rob participated in various concert bands and percussion ensembles. Top grades for his abilities were the norm. While Rob is schooled in percussion, he is entirely self taught on the drumset. Rob’s influences include Peter Criss, John Bonham, Neil Peart, Tommy Aldridge, Steve Gadd, and Steve Smith among others.Prior to joining Lou Gramm’s band officially, Rob had performed a few drum duties for him. In 2004, Rob recorded drum tracks for several Foreigner songs to be used for promotional purposes. Shortly after he also filled in as practice drummer as needed when Lou’s brother Ben (his drummer at the time) wasn’t available. In July 2009, Lou needed a drummer when Ben became ill. Rob filled in and played the show on 3 day’s notice. In early 2016, after Ben retired permanently from the band, Lou immediately called Rob and offered him the gig full time – no audition needed! Needless to say, joining one of his rock and roll heroes on stage night after night is a dream come true. Rob is currently on tour playing some of his favorite music with THE best vocalist of his generation.
While Rob is off dilly-dallying on a brief hiatus, Shawn and Preston are flying high without a drop of adult supervision as they discuss more perverted sex ghosts, male PMS, how to drown 20 cows at once, and the infamous Travis Walton abduction case. It was 3am when Rob Chapman received a phone call that no leader could prepare for. Phil Walsh, the coach of the Adelaide Football Club, had been murdered. As chairman of the club, one of the most high profile sporting teams in Australia, Rob had to lead players, staff, fans and a wider community through an unprecedented time of trauma and emotion. Rob shares the key moments, including that phone call and through the steps of the leadership and communication response that impacted so many. While Rob could never be ready to handle such a crisis, his years in business leadership, including roles as CEO of St George Bank and managing director of Bank SA, had taught him a lot about people, both on a personal and public level. For Rob, it is a case of nice guys finish first - being likeable, a "good bloke", has been a big part in his success. He says he learned many of these traits as the son of a farmer, and in the school boarding house. Rob's rise to the top in business hasn't been without challenges. Early in his career he pushed himself to the limit, and took risks, while still juggling his role as a husband and father to young children. Having achieved almost all there is, Rob remains motivated and passionate to see South Australia progress, both in its economy and mindset. Since we in Boston are staring down the barrel of another blizzard, we decided to get out of the Home Office while we could to catch a movie: Kingsman: The Secret Service, the new movie based on Mark Millar’s and Dave Gibbons’s 2012 comic The Secret Service. While Rob in particular didn’t like The Secret […]
Rob and Ceej are back to bring you one final episode before Rob has a ball and chain surgically grafted to his leg. Rob left Ceej all alone for a week to party in a wave of piss in New Orleans. While Rob was there he was professional as fuck and made sure to name drop BDR all over the place. As this was happening Ceej was strangely calm and didn't bitch about anything. Coincidence? They discuss the horrible events that took place in Colorado and just how messed up it was. Fred Willard was busted for doing what comes natural, Rob knows someone who knows someone who was a dickcutter, and then they dive into the meat of the episode. The Gathering is happening again and Rob tries to talk Ceej into going for a kickass social experiment. They can't believe the awesome acts that are there this year, they get into the mindset of Ric Flair, and Rob wants Ceej to star in the remake of the Rodney Dangerfield classic: Ladybugs. They wrap up the show by discussing being labeled due to the music you listen to and fantasize about how the Marilyn Manson/Johnny Depp meeting took place.
While Rob is gone taking care of family business, Colby & Atomyc help hold down the show along with special guest, Qween Amore. Everyone is feeling the effects of Tropical Storm Debbie and after 5 days of solid rain, we're starting to crack so Justice has been really domestic over the past week and spending time with family. Colby survived Ft. Lauderdale Pride and the show gets invited to the upcoming St. Pete Pride. Why does every city except for Orlando have their Pride event in June? Libraries are the 2nd home of homeless people, Justice is still excited about being a judge for Miss Comedy Queen, Atomyc tries to read the news and we wonder if transgender athletes have an unfair advantage in the Olympics. All that and more on this episode of The Homo Happy Happy air date - 6/26/12
While Rob and Cynthia search for Victoria, Victoria’s encounter with Steve at the amusement park does not end well.
While Rob flies back to America to finalize his divorce, Brian & Matt embark on a magical journey from Saigon to Tokyo.
We talk about a bunch of crap, including everything that Rob hates (except Fallout 3 ''Second Greatest Game Evar!'' confirmed). We discuss Dead Space, Fallout 3 (to an extent), Fable 2, Far Cry 2 and much more. Rob hates the Banjo demo (surprise? I think not)...he also hates the new TR demo. That is actually surprising, but he'll still buy it for ''da boobies''. While Rob loves Fallout 3, Gus hates the game...but not as much as Spore! Click it, download it, listen to it, love it, do it! ...Rob also hates LBP...
