It's a health insurance strategist's perspective on healthcare from Noor Ali on this episode of the Perspectives on Healthcare Podcast with Rob Oliver. Dr. Noor is from New York but went to Bangladesh to do her medical training. Upon returning to the US, she had trouble with licensure and committed herself to honing her expertise on health insurance. Currently living in Florida, she is a member of the millennial generation (Generation Y.) Here are 3 things that stood out as Noor Ali gave us a health insurance strategist's perspective on healthcare: Quality healthcare involves having desired treatments covered at a reasonable cost. Insurance isn't meant to cover everything but to mitigate costs. There is a triangular relationship in healthcare involving insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients. Patients often end up losing due to coverage limitations. Providers also face challenges as insurance companies may not adequately reimburse their efforts. Podcasts and educational resources are empowering patients to understand insurance better, which leads to better utilization and less fear of insurance companies. Dr Ali, who has a background in medicine and now works in the health insurance industry, shares valuable insights and advice based on her personal experiences. She highlights the significance of keeping a low deductible for financial safety, as well as the importance of evaluating health insurance plans based on individual coverage needs. She also debunks common misconceptions about health insurance policies, such as the assumption that a policy with a coverage amount of $1,000,000 covers all medical costs up to that amount. Dr Ali explains that the benefits provided by the policy add up to the coverage amount, but certain treatments like cancer could cost more. She also discusses the concept of max out of pocket or stop loss, which denotes the maximum amount an individual will have to pay out of pocket. In addition to these tips, Dr Ali emphasizes the rising cost of healthcare and the potential financial hardships that can arise from unexpected medical expenses. She stresses the importance of finding the right health insurance plan to protect assets and maintain overall health. The episode also delves into the options available in the public and private health insurance markets. Dr Ali advises individuals with an income below $50,000 to explore subsidized government plans in the public market, while those with a higher income may find more affordable options in the private market. She cautions against relying solely on internet research and recommend working with a health insurance adviser to find the most suitable plan.Furthermore, Dr Ali shares her own consultation services, offering 15-minute consultations for $12. During these consultations, she gets to know the client and their specific needs, and can suggest staying with their current plan or offer better alternatives. She also explains the advantages of locking in lower insurance premiums at a younger age and the importance of estimating income to determine the appropriate health insurance option.Ultimately, this episode provides practical and valuable advice for freelancers to navigate the complex world of health insurance and make informed decisions to protect their financial and physical well-being."❇️ Key topics and bullets- Introduction to the episode and the importance of health insurance for freelancers- Personal background and experience of Dr. Noor Ali in the health insurance industry- Understanding the coverage needs of individuals and the importance of researching and building a plan accordingly- Explanation of how coverage limits work in insurance policies and the misconception about a policy with a coverage of $1,000,000- The concept of max out-of-pocket or stop loss and its significance in protecting against high medical expenses- Overview of health sharing plans as alternatives to traditional health insurance and their lack of max out-of-pocket or stop loss- Discussion on medical bankruptcy as a result of rising healthcare costs and unexpected medical expenses- Importance of selecting the right health insurance plan to protect assets and maintain overall health- Affordable options in the public and private markets based on income levels- Focusing on major unexpected medical expenses rather than minor costs when evaluating health insurance plans- Advice on transitioning from public market plans to private ones after losing eligibility for subsidies- The impact of age on insurance premiums and the benefits of getting health insurance at a younger age- The influence of major insurance companies on online research and the benefits of working with a health insurance adviser- The uniqueness of each individual's situation and the importance of seeking professional...

Sehreen Noor Ali did not plan to start a venture-backed company in the pediatric health care space. But her child had started missing her milestones and she had too many unanswered questions. After taking time off work and spending hours upon hours in Google rabbit holes and parent Facebook groups searching for clues and trading information, Sehreen decided to create a tool to surface this information directly to parents like her. Together with her co-founder, Sehreen built Sleuth, a childhood health recommendation engine, powered by crowdsourced insights from parents and machine-learning. (Think: Waze for childhood health.) Sleuth has been building in beta alongside Sehreen's own sleuthing about her daughter's health, and the opaque and time-consuming health care system. In this episode of "Your New Life Blend," Sehreen reflects on that time with host Shoshanna Hecht, including the higher purpose of protecting kids, supporting families facing atypical health conditions, and marveling at her daughter's capacity for resilience...and, her own.

According to Kaiser Foundation data, around 49 percent of the country's total population receive group health insurance – health benefits provided by the employer. The remaining 51% have to figure out their healthcare coverage on their own. This can be a tricky slope to navigate, especially with evolving regulations around state laws. The ACA made sweeping changes to the industry in 2008, but that has only created pools of beneficiaries; not necessarily widespread solutions. Having the support and guidance of a professional advocate in the field can make all the difference to a positive research experience. Today I talk to global citizen, digital diplomat, and health entrepreneur Sehreen Noor Ali. Sehreen left her job as a technology executive to become a caretaker for her daughter, who was diagnosed with a serious pediatric illness. Seeing the pitfalls of healthcare up close, Sehreen was compelled to launch Sleuth, a database that crowdsources the experiences of parents of sick children. She worked for Obama. She speaks five languages. Her EQ score is off the charts. She's an award-winning tech innovator. And she's a fierce mama bear, which is why she named her company Sleuth (sleuth is the name of a group of bears). Between healthcare topics, we talk about the blunders of Crystal Pepsi, Die Hard, and startup culture. For more information, visit https://OffScrip.com and follow @MatthewZachary, @VaxOnPod, and @OffScripHealth on Twitter. For many of us, thinking about health insurance typically has one of two reactions. Either our eyes just glaze over because it is so boring, and we're thankful to have health insurance taken care of through a partner, a spouse or our parents; or we instantly feel our blood pressure rise because it is such a frustrating and confusing process. ONCE UPON A GENE - EPISODE 121 How the Caregivers Mental Health and Physical Well-Being are Impacted Right Alongside Our Rare Disease Kiddos with Advocate and Co-Founder of Hello Sleuth - Sehreen Noor Ali Sehreen Noor Ali is the Co-Founder of Sleuth, a website that compiles stories and information from rare disease parents. It's a smart technology designed to identify resources, solutions and cures— a growing group of parents working together. Sehreen is talking with me about trauma resulting from medical uncertainty. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Can you share the medical trauma you've experienced? My youngest daughter was hospitalized for over two months after surgery and went into inpatient rehabilitation afterwards. Then she was hospitalized again for a second surgery before she could go home. I cultivated tools and resources upon learning my daughter was going to need surgery and they served me well. But after we got home and I started to fray at the edges, I realized I was traumatized by the experience. What most contributed to how you're feeling? I was not prepared. My daughter also lost her swallow function and is now completely g-tube fed, which wasn't supposed to happen. Reconciling that while trying to act normal has contributed to my trauma. What advice do you have for caregivers? The thing I believe in most is that the caregiving you're doing means something really meaningful to other parents on similar journeys. I hope Sleuth is a place people will consider sharing their story because we know how powerful and helpful it can be to share your story. Imagine what it's like for any immigrant to embrace the culture and norms of a new nation. Then think about being a highly respected doctor, practicing for years in your native country. When you arrive in the United States, you learn that if you want to practice medicine, you'll have to dust off your organic chemistry and anatomy books and pass a rigorous exam. That's what happened to Noor Ali who skipped undergrad, going straight from the renowned Bronx High School of Science into six years of medical school in Bangladesh, only to barely miss the cutoff when she sat for the U.S. exam to practice medicine. How did she cope? Ali always knew she wanted to follow in her anaesthesiologist grandfather's footsteps and become a doctor, but she never envisioned being denied the ability to do so — especially after “paying her dues” and finishing med school. With a successful career in her home country of Bangladesh, Ali was recognized by the United Nations as a volunteer — bringing healthcare to pregnant women and children. Ali felt lost and downtrodden. Ali's pivot? She founded a business, Dr. Noor Health, where she marries medical knowledge with health insurance in an advisory role, helping the “healthy and wealthy” find more fitting health insurance policies in the private market based on their health status. Listen as Ali describes being an immigrant in New York City, volunteering in the slums of Bangladesh, and the price of reinvention on this episode of SheVentures.
The more informed you are about your medical insurance plans, the wiser and more empowered you become when making health choices. For our guest doctor, that's the ‘why' behind becoming a health insurance advisor. In this episode, Dr. Noor Ali talks about the American Healthcare System, what future moms need to understand about maternity coverage, and her health insurance consultation that's 100% free for every client. Dr. Noor explains that her job as a doctor and as an advisor is not to single-handedly uproot the loopholes of the healthcare system. Instead, she goes above and beyond in helping her clients leverage their current situation when finding the best health insurance plan at present.
