Joe was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and since childhood he has loved the Philadelphia Phillies. According to him, “I live and die with the Phillies, no matter where they are in the standings. They have been playing great of late and that makes me happy!” Now a Nashvillian for almost five decades, Joe is also a Tennessee Titans football fan. He has had season tickets since they arrived in Nashville in 1998. Joe is an avid writer and songwriter and became a published children's book author in 1997 with The Molly Books, a four-book series published by Ideal's Children's Books. In 2003, New Leaf Press published G. I. Joe and Lillie: Remembering a Life of Love and Loyalty, an inspirational biography Joe penned about his parents. His song by the same name was included on the Oaks' Colors album, released the same year. A music video of the song reemerged in the summer of 2009 and became a YouTube phenomenon with almost six million views. Joe also wrote the title song for the Oaks' The Journey album, as well as the text for The Oak Ridge Boys' coffee table book, An American Journey, published in 2004. In 2014, New Leaf published Joe's Christmas short story, An Inconvenient Christmas, which was inspired by an Oak Ridge Boys' song from an album by the same name. In September 2010, Journey Press, a division of Sheaf House, released From My Perspective, a collection of Joe's commentaries, stories, and other writings. His book Christmas Miracles, a collection of Christmas short stories and commentaries, originally published in 2008, was updated in 2012. His most recent book, On the Road with The Oak Ridge Boys, was published by Harvest House Publishers in May 2015. For relaxation, Joe retreats to his farm on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line, where he can often be found on his John Deere tractor mowing part of his 350-acres—or sitting on his front porch and playing banjo, an instrument he has played for more than a decade. He plays a step-out lead on the Oaks' Rock of Ages CD. Joe has been singing since he was about four years old and in his mid-teens fell in love with Southern Gospel music harmony. A born-again Christian, he is always quick to give God the credit for everything he has accomplished. He joined the Oaks in 1973, just prior to the group's emergence on the Country music scene. As with the other group members, much of Joe's time has been spent on the road performing, but he found his own way to get the maximum possible enjoyment out of touring. “My life has been simple,” says the Oak who was the principal spokesman on stage for five decades. “I go out there and try to sing the best I can and give them physically and mentally everything I've got. When it's done, I go back to my room or the bus, eat some pizza or sushi, call my Mary, get on my Apple laptop, do a little writing, and say to myself, ‘Hey, I've done what I'm supposed to be doing and I feel great about it.'” Joe and his wife, Mary, have two daughters, Jennifer, and Sabrina; two grandchildren, Breanne and Luke, who recently served in the U.S. Navy; and one great grandson, Noah Chance. They also have four cats, Mitty, Crockett, Barney, and Maggie Mae. In early 2024, Joe announced his retirement from touring due to the onset of a neuromuscular disorder. He passed on to Glory on July 9, 2024, due to complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He leaves behind his precious wife, Mary Ann, daughters Jennifer and Sabrina, granddaughter Breanne, grandson Luke, two great grandsons, Chance and Grey, and a sister, Nancy. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph S. Bonsall Sr. and Lillie Bonsall. A memoir written by Joe in early 2024, entitled I See Myself, will be released in November.

We wanna hear from you! Send us a message here :) When country music lovers talk about the greatest groups in the genre, Shenandoah is always at the forefront of any discussion. Fueled by Marty Raybon's distinctive vocals and the band's skilled musicianship, Shenandoah became well known for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the Grammy winning “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss. Today that legacy continues as original members Raybon and Mike McGuire reunite to launch a new chapter in Shenandoah's storied career. It all began when the guys got back together to perform a benefit concert for a friend battling cancer. “We saw how folks reacted,” Raybon says of the response to their reunion. “And then Jerry Phillips, son of legendary Sun Records producer Sam Phillips, said ‘You guys need to make a run at this. People still love what you do. You can tell by the reaction. There's a lot of excitement in the air.'”The Oak Ridge Boys have sold over 41 million units worldwide and are synonymouswith “America, apple pie, baseball, and country music.” In addition to their awards and accolades in the country music field, the Oaks have garnered five GRAMMY® Awards, nine GMA DOVE Awards, and two American Music Awards. The group—Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban—was inducted into the prestigious Country Music Hall of Fame (2015 Inductees) and the Grand Ole Opry (since 2011)—and is known worldwide as one of recording history's most extraordinary musical successes. Joe Bonsall, 76, the longtime tenor vocalist of Country Music Hall of Fame group Oak Ridge Boys, has died from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In this very special conversation, Joe gives us a glimpse of the future, almost as if it was a "Message from Heaven." Six months ago, citing the half-decade onset of the previously-mentioned disorder, Bonsall retired from performing on the road with the group after 50 years.Notably, alongside his Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry membership, Bonsall was an inductee of the Philadelphia Music Hall of Fame and Gospel Music Hall of Fame."It has been a great 50 years and I am thankful to all the Oak Ridge Boys, band, crew and staff for the constant love and support shown to me through it all. I will never forget, and for those of you who have been constantly holding me up in prayer," stated Bonsall.Rest in peace...our friend. Nashville Recording Artist Singer/Songwriter Lee Newton, came from humble beginnings. Having seen her share of hard times growing up in Canton, North Carolina, she started singing in church when she was five years old when her Mother would take her. Lee's love of music grew as a child when her Daddy played country classics like Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline around the house. Lee's father, a cab driver, taught her to play the guitar at age seven and they would sing together while she rode around town with him in his taxi going on calls. “My Daddy, who named me Brenda Lee after the amazing country singer, would always tell me one day you will be playing at the Grand Ole Opry and from that point on I knew I wanted to be a performer.” Heavily influenced by legendary musicians like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, The Judds Lorrie Morgan Susan Tedischi and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lee's personal sound is a mix between traditional Country and raspy Blues with an added Southern Rock flare. When Lee was 20 years old, she joined a couple of bands and taught herself to play the drums. She travelled to New York City and had the privilege of singing backup for Artimus Pyle, Leslie Hawkins and JoJo Billingsly – three original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. In 2020, Lee won “Vocalist of the Year” at the Josie Music Awards. Her 2021 EP Undamaged, which she wrote, won “EP Album of the year” at Josie Music Awards and also Top 20 Best of 2021 for Women of Country. Lee's newest full length album UNLEESHED, was released April, 2022. Lee wrote 9 of the songs on it. She won “Album of the year” at the Josie Music Awards show that was held at The Grand Ole Opry. She also was nominated for Song of the year with Carolina, and Artist of the year for Women of Country Best of 2022. UNLEESHED has artist Leona Williams, Pam Tillis, Lee Roy Parnell, Mike Rogers & Tim Watson appear on it. Lee has opened or performed with legends Ronnie Milsap, Ronnie McDowell, T Graham Brown, Diamond Rio, The Gatlin Brothers, TG Sheppard, Edwin McCain, Leona Williams, & more. Lee recently appeared on WSM Circle Access TV Coffee, Country & Cody with Bill Cody, Fox Rock Review with Eric Dahl, NBC Today in Nashville, and a host of radio interviews to promote her newest album “UNLEESHED”. In print media, Lee has been featured in Cross Country Magazine, The 80th Anniversary Edition of CashBox Magazine, The Cover magazine, and she was on the cover of Lazie Indie Magazine along with 16 page article. Her new album, UNLEESHED, reached number one spot on the NDExpress Independent Album Charts. A single from the album, Working Girl Blues, featuring Leona Williams, Pam Tillis, and Lee Roy Parnell, reached number one on the NDExpress Independent Single Charts. Lee is grateful to all the stations worldwide who played this song, and helped get the word out. 2023 is set to be an exciting year for Lee Newton. She will be releasing her first Gospel album, that will feature duets with Joe Bonsall from The Oak Ridge Boys, T. Graham Brown, Dale Houston, Ben Isaacs and more. She will also start recording her next Country album, for which she already has a number of songs written. The calendar is already filling up with calls for live appearances and interviews. The diehard sports family Duffield, has some funny ideals and loyalties. Is there a difference between being a true-blue fan and a follower? Well, Jeff and Sue Duffield will try and answer that during this episode. With the epic end-of-season run by MLB's surprising post-season Phillies, it will surely be a journey to behold in these next few days. Being a follower and not just a fan, will prove itself when this team (or your favorite pass time) disappoints. Hoping for a great outcome, this World Series 2022 has some real wildness about it. How they're able to contain the euphorias at this point, is beyond comprehension. Now, all those fair weathered fans (disciples of Jesus) soon BECAME followers after the resurrection! But when they thought everything was absolutely falling apart, when they thought Jesus was going to die and that would be the end of the story, they simply gave up. No loyalty and no commitment; which eventually they did gain back (and took that loyalty and commitment to the point of death themselves) AFTER they saw the resurrected Yeshua. While millions have heard his tenor voice as a member of the Oak Ridge Boys, fewer know the back story of Joe's deep love for his country. Watching his father struggle as a result of horrific wounds sustained in WWII, Joe's family experienced first hand what war can do to an individual ...and those who loved that wounded warrior. In his book, GI Joe and Lillie, Joe presents an unvarnished story of love, loss, pain, suffering, and patriotism. He took time to call us and share his heart and experiences as a caregiving family member of a wounded warrior. www.josephsbonsall.com Peter Rosenberger is a thirty-year caregiver for his wife Gracie, who lives with severe physical disabilities. He is the author of Hope for the Caregiver and his radio show for family caregivers is syndicated on more than 200 stations across the country. @hope4caregiver

Absolutely nothing to talk about … except maybe the folly of the Supreme Court. But other than that … An amazing interview with The Oak Ridge Boys' Joe Bonsall. We talk music, faith, ORB history, Johnny Cash and much more. William Lee Golden's beard was cool before the Duck Dynasty boys could grow theirs. Aaaaaaaand we just lost our G rating One Church Boy says, "When I hear 'Beatles,' my eyes glaze over." The other one shoots himself. Chris' new best friend -- Billy has been replaced. That sounded weird. We are in zero Halls of Fame. This disturbing presentation brought to you by Dubsmash. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thechurchboys/message
The Oak Ridge Boys all got the bug to sing early on from the time they spent in church. These early influential harmonies of the traditional Christian hymns helped inspire the Boys to be the success they are today. In this CyberCountry Minute Duane Allen of the Oak Ridge Boys talks to Lance Yelvington about putting together their new CD, "Rock Of Ages", and about Joe Bonsall's book about life on the road with the Oak Ridge Boys.
Special interview for Veterans' Day with Oak Ridge Boys' Joe Bonsall about his parents chronicled in his book, GI Joe and Lillie. It's extraordinary story of an American family.

In this week’s Kansas City Baseball Vault, we were joined by our pals Clint Scoles and Dave Lesky from the Pine Tar Press podcast. We discussed the Hall of Fame vote and the factors that led to nobody being elected, as well as the process of voting. Lumped in with that was a discussion of steroids and other such issues that dozens of BBWAA members were writing about leading up to the final ballot counts. In other baseball news, we answered a listener question about adding cell phones in dugouts to communicate with the bullpen. We finished up by talking about projections for the Royals in 2013. Lesky explained some of his problems with the ZiPS system while we talked in general about the players who looked like they might be able to meet those projections, or even beat them. After the discussion, Troy spoke with Joe Bonsall of famed band the Oak Ridge Boys. I know, “what does that have to do with baseball?”, you might ask. Bonsall is a big baseball fan (of the Phillies to be exact) and the ORB sang the national anthem at then-Royals Stadium before Game 7, so he shared his stories of being a baseball fan and cheering for Kansas City during the Royals dramatic Game 6 win and their series-clinching victory. Download the full mp3 here or listen in the embedded player above. The Kansas City Baseball Vault is a weekly podcast that covers the Royals, their minor league affiliates and other aspects of baseball in Kansas City.
