Success to Significance Honors David Burnett- Beyond Success

We were visiting the George Herbert Walker Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas with David and Sallie Burnett in April of 2022. David took the seat behind the Resolute Desk and said these prophetic words- “It is up to us to give back to society. It is what makes us great.” Not all giants stand tall. Some walk among us quietly, leaving footprints not in sand but in the hearts of those they meet. Such was David Burnett. Lafayette, Colorado, is like many small towns—a place where neighbors know each other's names, where the rhythm of life hums along at a steady, familiar pace. But every so often, a soul comes along who doesn't just live in a town, across a cul-de-sac, but weaves himself into its very fabric. David Burnett was that kind of man.He was more than just a neighbor—he was a force for good. A board member on countless nonprofit organizations, he didn't just believe in making a difference; he did it, over and over again. And not by standing on soapboxes, not with grand speeches, but with something far more powerful: a giving heart, a generous spirit, and the courage to ask others to join him. Consider this: David served on the board of the Association for Community Living in Boulder County, advocating for those with developmental disabilities. He sat on the finance committee, ensuring funds were wisely allocated to provide services and opportunities for those who needed them most. At EPIC, he was a trusted advisor, working to expand employer-sponsored childcare. He understood that when working parents had reliable childcare, families and businesses thrived. And so, he worked. Not for accolades. Not for recognition. But because it was the right thing to do. He lent his expertise and heart to the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Board, knowing that quality healthcare should never be a privilege—it should be a promise. And the YMCA of Northern Colorado? David's fingerprints are there, too. The recent opening of the Inspire Preschool and Infant Care was a testament to his unwavering belief that all children—regardless of background—deserved a strong start. His dream was free universal preschool, a vision he pursued with the same fire that fueled his every endeavor. Some people shy away from asking for help. Not David. He knew the secret—people want to give; they just need someone to show them how. And he was that someone. A phone call, a handshake, a moment of eye contact—David had a way of making you believe that yes, you could do more, you should do more. And because he believed it, you believed it too. He and his wife, Sallie, raised their daughter, Brittany, with the same values. She watched, she learned, she followed in his footsteps. Devoting her life to nonprofits wasn't just a career choice; it was a calling, a legacy. Her father's legacy. And that legacy lives on. Recently, the David Burnett Childcare Center opened at the YMCA of Northern Colorado. Brittany said, “Dad worked so incredibly hard for this project and for free universal preschool for children of all ages across Colorado. His vision was to open access for early childhood education to give them a chance to succeed at an early age. I am proud of his legacy and heart for others.” As for David's career? He was a bank executive with Wells Fargo who happened to see beyond the money and into the currency of life itself. But even the strongest among us are not invincible. Colon cancer came for David at 55. Too soon. Far too soon. And yet, some legacies are not measured in years but in lives touched. In lessons taught. In communities made stronger, charities made richer, hearts made fuller. David Burnett was better than a friend. Better than a brother. More than next of kin. He was a resolute role model.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

They said they were going to do it, and doggonit, it got did! This week David Burnett makes his triumphal return to Data Over Dogma to discuss the recent academic conference on monotheism that he, Dan McClellan and others organized at Brown University. And if that sounds boring or dry to you, hold onto your butt, because—fire in the hole!—they were dropping bombs! The whole goal of this conference was to challenge any notion that the people of ancient southwest Asia (meaning the people who wrote the Bible) were monotheists in any meaningful way. Christian and Jewish people today may only believe in a single God, but the same probably couldn't be said for the people who wrote their scriptures. David and Dan will report on papers from some heavy-hitter scholars that discuss this incendiary topic, and honestly they might just blow your mind. Unless you're a regular Data Over Dogma listener. Then, they might just be super interesting. Welcome to Tulsa Talks presented by Tulsa Regional Chamber. I'm your host Tim Landes. It's been over three years since Danny Boy O'Connor opened The Outsiders House Museum, 731 N. St. Louis Ave. In that time thousands of fans of S.E. Hinton's book and Francis Ford Coppola's movie have visited the museum. On the eve of the 40th anniversary of the movie's release, Danny Boy sat down on the  living room couch and talked about the impact the museum has had since opening in August 2019, plus how he hasn't stopped adding to it.  He's still searching for props, costumes, cars and memorabilia pertaining to the Hinton movie universe  because he has bigger dreams you'll hear about on this episode. He discusses the popularity of the tours with students (10,000 students this year!) and fans and talks about the growing inventory of items available inside the gift shop. Today on That Tech Pod, Laura and Gabi chat with David Burnett.David Burnett has been working at security, identity, and authentication companies for almost 20 years. Early in his career, he spent seven years helping to make strong encryption successful and easy to use while at PGP Corporation and Symantec.  Later, he focused on making biometric authentication easier and more popular than passwords. His work at Nok Nok Labs delivered early successes for the FIDO Alliance, an industry association that promotes a passwordless future. Samsung and Sony used Nok Nok Labs software to power the first FIDO-enabled fingerprint login services on smartphones. PayPal and NTT DOCOMO used Nok Nok Labs software to let their customers log in using FIDO-enabled phones. From these early beginnings, the FIDO Alliance has become a global success story. FIDO technology is used by companies around the world to power passwordless login. And the world's most influential technology companies, such as Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Meta, all use and promote FIDO.  After his successes with FIDO and smartphones, David spent several years bringing biometric technology to other consumer devices and types of identity systems. As part of this effort, he lived in Sweden for two years and continued his work with partners around the world. Today, he's the Head of Global Business Development at ZeroBiometrics. He's passionate about an innovative new product that verifies your face without knowing what you look like. This product, ZeroFace is a modern approach to biometric authentication that is inherently privacy preserving. Among its many innovative features is the ability to encrypt your data using your face as the key.

Welcome to the very first instalment of the That Gut Feeling, Doing It For The Kids podcast/videos series! Today on the podcast, I talk to David Burnett from Vitamin Foods Inc. David shares his incredible story that begins with him sitting in his mother's oncologist's conference room, hearing, "The best we can hope for is that your mother could survive five years at best with this terminal cancer diagnosis, only if she took chemotherapy, radiation treatments and a stem-cell surgery that in and of itself could kill her.” After the diagnosis, David's family, their lifestyle and culinary business drastically changed. Not only did this new dietary lifestyle put this “incurable” cancerous disease into ten year remission (without chemotherapy, radiation treatments or surgery), but it also gave David the wisdom and platform to include this newly acquired knowledge within the food science and health consultation departments of Vitamin Foods Inc.
