Batman The Adventures Continue Season 1 Graphic Novel is the Animated Series continuation from original TV writers Paul Dini and Alan Burnett. Bringing together pretty much a season 5 but in comic book form with never used in the show characters and returning classics too. What makes this work so well compared to other series later days stories is by still having the original guys write the script. So the story never has that uncanny fan fiction feel to it that just makes some other classic shows just feel off in comic book form. All 8 of these issues are really something special and pair up nicely with some of the top tier episodes of the 90s cartoon show. Bringing in new characters that never appeared in the original show like Deathstroke and Red Hood Jason Todd. Then also creating some brand new ones too that just feel like they fit in perfectly. Plus of course all sorts of returning villains that one might and might not expect. Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Mad Hater, Scarface, Clayface, Lex Luthor, Killer Croc, Penguin, Firefly, and Clock King just to name a few. There's just so much going on in here that it almost needs a good 2 reads to catch all the well dialed in references. Catch back up with Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennywise, Barbara Gordon, Clark Kent, and Tim Drake (Oddly Dick Grayson is missing but there is two other graphic novels in the series) with us in this perfect example of nostalgia done right. In this latest episode of the Deep Dive spinoff, Gaius is joined by Dustin Rybka of the Sex Party podcast to discuss 1993's Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, directed by Eric Radomski and Bruce Timm, and written by Alan Burnett, Paul Dini, Martin Pasko, and Michael Reaves. The movie is based on Batman: The Animated Series and is the first original theatrical film produced by Warner Bros. Animation. In the film, Batman reconciles with a former lover, Andrea Beaumont, and faces a mysterious vigilante who is murdering Gothan City's crime bosses. The situation comes complicated when the Joker enters picture and Batman is now faced goingup against two villains in this epic adventure that failed to ignite the box office upon initial release, but went on to become a cult classic on home video with some saying its one of the best Batman adaptations to date. First off, congratulations on the second printing of Justice Warriors! For our listeners, what's the elevator pitch for this series?Every page is full of interesting background bits. Dudes with clown noses, graffiti that says “Hell is otter people.” How much of this is in the script and how much is going buck wild while illustrating a page?On that same note, how often do you find yourselves going back to add “just one more” detail? With the creative juices flowing at various stages of layouts, how far did Justice Warriors steer from the original outline or plan by the time you reached the end?The Prince is less of a villain and more of a goober. Was it important to you to have an authority figure like this in the book?I noticed fun references to pop culture, like the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers handshake, is there any reference or gag in the book you hold particularly dear to your heart? If you handed this book to someone in the bubble, I feel like it'd read like perfect JW propaganda. Was that a tonal goal here?Horoscopes play a huge part in Justice Warriors, are either of you into horoscopes, or maybe the opposite, despise them? Are either of you a Libra? If a Justice Warriors 2 was crafted, who might the threat be this time?Matt, for those who don't know, you ran The Nib for 10 years, a twice named a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Likely a sensitive topic, why are you closing shop now? When can we expect the final issue to land at our doorsteps (after we buy it from thenib.com)?It's way too early I'm sure, but if The Nib continued in some format, where or how might we see The Nib?

On this episode of X-Ray Vision, Jason Concepcion and Rosie Knight send up the Bat Signal! First in Previously On (2:47), Jason and Rosie discuss a casting in Sony's Kraven, the imminent arrival of Netflix's Marvel shows (and of course Agents of Shield) on Disney+, how Hollywood is reacting to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and what some newly released funko pops might tell us about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the Airlock (13:24) Jason and Rosie dive deep (deeeep) into Matt Reeves' The Batman, discussing what sets the film apart from previous iterations, why it's so good, and offering a variety of recommendations for folks to read, watch, and play after they see The Batman (55:28). In this chapter of the Omnibus (1:25:05), Jason explores science-fiction's relationship with war and vice versa. In the Hive Mind (1:37:29), Jason and Rosie are joined by comedian and podcaster Pete Holmes to discuss The Batman and in the Endgame (1:52:32), Jason and Rosie pick the craziest villain from Batman's Rogues Gallery to see in a future Batman installment. There have been a lot of animated Justice League movies, and in this episode Perry is joined by author Gordon Dymowski to discuss one of the oddest ones of all. Justice League: Gods and Monsters featured Bruce Timm's return to the DC characters, except this Justice League is composed of General Zod's son, Kirk Langstrom, and Bekka of the Fourth World. It's an interesting and somewhat strange addition to the canon that doesn't quite work so well.Buy or rent this movie on AmazonThis episode is sponsored by Audible, where you can listen to thousands of audiobooks, podcasts, and original content.
