Diversity and Inclusion (or, “DEI”) backlash in Australia; 4. Increased workplace investigations, whistleblower activity and individual claims; and 5. We sat down with Anthony Wood to talk about his research focus on Black history in the west. We talk about his new research along with his book, Black Montana: Settler Colonialism and the Erosion of the Racial Frontier, 1877–1930. We dive into storytelling, history-making, and the stories that we tell about ourselves and what those stories and historical narratives can tell us about the past. Anthony Wood is a historian of the American West. His work looks at race and place-making during the 19th and 20th centuries. He completed his PhD at the University of Michigan earlier this year and now serves as the senior historian on a new National Park Service project to survey and collect a comprehensive history of African Americans in the Parks of the Intermountain Region. His 2021 book, Black Montana, was a finalist for the Great Plains Distinguished Book Prize. His next writing project develops his dissertation, "Forty Years within the Veil: The Black West and Counternarratives of Race and Place in the Rocky Mountains.
In this episode, we caught up with DELTA runner Anthony Wood. We discussed his running journey so far, including the training that led up to his 2:45 marathon PB in December 2022. Ramin Cyrus has swum a channel relay, the Thames Marathon at Henley and other big swims, all great achievements. Powerful achievements, given that he is visually impaired. While for most open water swimmers, sighting is a matter of looking up, to work out where they are and to set their course, Ramin Cyrus sights without sight, with the help of great friends in the water, Paul Daniels and Anthony Wood, he is having the swimming time of his life. In this podcast, recorded at the Lido café in London's Hyde Park, we discuss his swimming achievements, and what it is like to be a swimmer with visual impairment. We discuss what needs to be in place to undertake such big swims with no sight, how he navigates the water, and how he recruits all his senses to undertake the most sensorial of sports.

Should we be taking vehicles off drunk drivers? I say yes. And I'll tell you why. It's been revealed this morning that a man who appeared in court in Christchurch last month and pleaded guilty to drink-driving, got behind the wheel again that very same day and ended up killing himself and another innocent driver. He was just 24. His name is Zejayohn Keyli-West Hurinui. The guy he crashed into and who also died was 69. He was from Methven - his name is Anthony Wood. Anthony's wife survived the crash, but was seriously injured. So it was 9:15 at night —just over a month ago, on the 26th of April— when Zejayohn collided with Anthony Wood's vehicle on Domett Road in Hurunui. Just hours before that, the 24-year-old had been in court for sentencing after driving over the legal alcohol limit less than four weeks earlier. It was in the early hours of April 1 when he pulled over on Scargill Valley Road in North Canterbury to roll a cigarette. That was when the Police turned up and did a roadside breath test and found he was more than twice the legal limit for driving after drinking alcohol. His licence was suspended for 28 days on the spot and it was just over three weeks after that when he appeared in court, pleaded guilty and was sentenced. It's unclear at this stage what the sentence was, but the court summary says the penalty for the offence is either three months' imprisonment or a $4,500 fine. Plus disqualified from driving for six months or more. But, despite all that, and just hours after being sentenced, he was back behind the wheel and at 9:15 that night, he drove into Anthony Wood's vehicle, leaving the two of them dead and Anthony's wife seriously injured. How many more reasons - other than that - do you need to be convinced that dishing people fines and taking their licences off them isn't enough to try and stop this type of carnage happening on our roads? I'm not saying that, if the court had taken a vehicle off this particular guy, that it would have prevented what happened. And I'm certainly not saying that taking a vehicle off him would've meant that he and that innocent guy would still be alive today. Because there's a chance he still would've ended up behind the wheel of some vehicle. And maybe when someone is that reckless and brazen to be driving just hours after standing up in court and pleading guilty to drink-driving, maybe there's never going to be a way of keeping them off the road. But is that a good enough reason not to get tough and really crack down on these selfish idiots? Of course it isn't! It's the perfect reason to get tougher. Just like every other case of drink-driving is a perfect reason to get tougher. I was surprised to find out not that long ago that, if you are caught driving over the limit, it doesn't automatically mean losing your licence. I know of someone who got off with a fine - which surprised me. But when you've got someone who gets behind the wheel twice the legal limit, goes to court and pleads guilty, and then drives again just hours later - well our system needs changing, don't you think? I'm in no doubt that it needs changing. Which is why I'm saying today that, if fines and suspended licences aren't getting the message through, then we need some stronger penalties. And the starting point for that should be, giving courts the ability to take someone's vehicle off them.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In May 2022, the Serpentine Swimming Club was inducted into the International Marathon Swimmers Hall of Fame (IMSHOF), in Naples, Italy. One Saturday morning following this proud moment, many of the club's marathon swimmers came together to be photographed by Anthony Wood, a fellow Serpentine Club Swimmer who's been photographing life at the club for the past few years, as documented in his Instagram feed @coldwatermornings. This podcast catches the exuberance of the morning's celebration with many of the clubs' marathon swimmers as they assembled by the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park, London, with interviews with some of the many, including multiple solo English Channel swimmer Nick Adams, John Coningham-Rolls, Neil Drinkwater, Robert Fischer, Tom Elliott, Gerald Power-athome, Club President Rob Ouldcott, Judith Charman, Mark Johanssen, James Lythe, James Norton, and the legendary Rosemary George. Marathon swimming defined here as 10 kilometers or more, takes, time, persistence, determination and of course - support. James Norton mentions three that supported him; Volker Koch, Alan Mitchell and Kevin Blick, all marathon swimmers themselves giving up their time to play a modest role in another marathon swimmer's challenge. ‘Teamwork makes the dream work' – trite but true.

In a CNBC exclusive, Julia Boorstin speaks with Roku CEO Anthony Wood live from CES in Las Vegas about the launch of its own TV line, the impact from ad market headwinds, and outlook on consumer demands.
Anthony Wood helped transform the media landscape…twice. First, in the early 2000's, when he invented a device that let you record, pause, and re-watch live TV. The DVR was a game-changer, but the company Anthony built around it—ReplayTV—was eventually out-maneuvered by TiVo. Unfazed, Anthony developed another piece of hardware; one that would tap into the growing power of the internet by letting TV's stream digital content. In 2008, he launched the Roku box, a $99 device that connected your TV to the internet, with a remote simple enough for your grandmother to use. It's hard to imagine now, but Anthony initially had a hard time convincing investors and media execs that the Roku—and streaming devices like it—would completely change the way we watch TV. Today, Roku has grown into an expansive media company that creates and distributes content to more than 65 million accounts worldwide.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Please note: as of 3/31/22, ARK's clients own greater than 1% of the shares outstanding of Roku Inc. We believe there's a major shift taking place in the TV ecosystem in terms of people moving from linear (cable) TV to connected (streaming) platforms and it's only going one direction. The advertising world hasn't quite caught up; In Roku's first quarter earnings call, CEO Anthony Wood reiterated that US audiences spend 46% of their TV time on streaming while advertisers spend only 18% of their TV ad budgets on streaming.[1] We believe there is an enormous investment opportunity here, and in today's episode we are going to be talking about why we believe Roku, the only purpose-built operating system for TVs today, is positioned to be a prime beneficiary of the shift from linear to connected TV. Tune in today to hear our predictions for the next five years, the factors required for our thesis to crystalize, exciting developments taking place at Roku, and more! You can read the full Roku valuation blog here. “The way that we think about Roku in this new digital TV ecosystem is as the new cable box.” — @GrousARK Key Points From This Episode: An overview of what Roku is. How the TV ecosystem has shifted. The drop that we expect to see in the number of households using cable/broadcast (linear TV) in the US in the next five years. The number of households that we expect to be using connected TV (streaming) in the coming years. The mismatch between advertising dollars spent and engagement in the streaming space. A comparison between the amount of advertising dollars spent on connected TV and linear TV. How we predict global and US advertising spending will change in the next few years. Three key variables that our assumptions about Roku's future depend on. How we expect Roku's daily hour stream per account metrics to change by 2026. Roku's approaches to driving revenue dollars. Anthony Wood joins us to discuss his ongoing Civil War series, A Tale of Two Colors.
We are joined today by retired Marine Colonel Anthony (Tony) Wood. In 1975, as a captain, Col. Wood was one of two military officers (the other a Green Beret captain) tasked with planning and executing the evacuation of Saigon as North Vietnamese forces shelled the city and closed in. They not only had to identify the thousands of allies (and Americans) in the region, but also identify potential landing/extraction zones, as well as develop a transportation plan to the sites, meanwhile keeping their extraction plans hidden from the ambassador/state department due to political pressures. Col. Wood and his team successfully extracted over 7,000 people in the largest helicopter evacuation in history without firing a single shot. This is a harrowing story and one of courage, bravery, desperation, creativity at the highest level, and decisiveness. We discuss the context of Vietnam in 1975, and the disagreement/disconnect between the military (posted offshore and not permitted on Vietnamese ground) and the state department/embassy. We continue to learn from these first-hand accounts of what it was like on the ground in Vietnam, especially during a chaotic, and highly politicized time. As we know, those on the ground doing the job oftentimes tell a different story than what the news delivers. We hope you enjoy.
In this episode Costi Hinn interviews Anthony & Bre Wood as they announce a brand new podcast coming to the For the Gospel network! "Date Night With the Woods" will feature episodes that focus on marriage, family, and winning where it matters most — at home. In today's culture, Christians need to be equipped to lead their marriage and family faithfully. This program will empower you to do that.
In this episode, Costi Hinn interviews FTG contributor and pastor of Mission Bible Church, Anthony Wood, on the nature of the times we live in. They discuss the two extremes of "hyper-predictions" by end times enthusiasts, as well as the unhealthy indifference that many Christians have towards end times prophecy. From the war in Ukraine to compromise in the church, a Christian's focus should be on looking forward to the Day of the Lord.
(NOTE: there were microphone feedback issues on our side that we were not able to completely eliminate in post-production, but Col Wood's audio is loud and clear throughout.) The end of 2021 is almost here, and #TeamKrulak was grateful and excited to have a fantastic guest on its final #BruteCast of the year. We were joined by Col Anthony A. Wood, United States Marine Corps (retired), whose service in uniform extended over three decades. In addition to commanding infantry and reconnaissance units at many levels, his wide-ranging career impacted a number of forward-thinking Marine Corps efforts. On assignment to Marine Corps Headquarters he served as the principal author in developing the US Navy and Marine Corps “Maritime Prepositioning Concept”, and then supervised the implementation of a national strategic response capability based on forward positioning three squadrons of specially configured ships filled with the supplies and equipment to support Marine Brigades. While serving as Chief of Staff for Marine Forces in the Pacific, Col Wood was dispatched to Russia in 1993 where, over a three-week period of negotiations, he successfully concluded a major tension reduction agreement and multi-year exercise program with senior Russian military leaders in the Pacific theater. His last Marine Corps billet was as founder and first Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory from 1995-1998, where under his leadership the laboratory spearheaded the four-year series of Marine Corps Sea Dragon experiments designed to recast military capabilities in a mold appropriate to emerging counter terrorist requirements. But in this episode, he focused on a story from the earlier part of his career. In January 1975, as North Vietnamese forces closed on Saigon, Major General Homer Smith, United States Army, the Defense Attache in Saigon, transferred then-Captain Wood to the Defense Attache Office where has was directed to join the newly formed Special Planning Group with the mission of secretly developing a plan for the evacuation of Saigon. In the course of that operation he worked with a group of over 100 American civilian volunteers who assumed great risk to remain without protection and evacuate over 5000 persons from the collapsing capital to the safety of waiting Marine helicopters. A fascinating story in its own right, the evacuation also holds a number of lessons for contingency planning that remain highly relevant in the present day. Col Wood referenced the Marine Corps History Division publication U.S. Marines in Vietnam: The Bitter End, 1973-1975 several times in his presentation; you can find a digital copy of the book here: https://www.marines.mil/Portals/1/Publications/U.S.%20Marines%20in%20Vietnam_The%20Bitter%20End%201973-1975%20%20PCN%201900310900_1.pdf Intro/outro music is "Evolution" from BenSound.com (https://www.bensound.com) Follow the Krulak Center: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thekrulakcenter Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thekrulakcenter/ Twitter: @TheKrulakCenter YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcIYZ84VMuP8bDw0T9K8S3g LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/brute-krulak-center-for-innovation-and-future-warfare Krulak Center homepage on The Landing: https://unum.nsin.us/kcic

Anthony Wood, doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan, considers some of the inherent contradictions and complexities as Butte's Black residents commemorated Emancipation Day in 1902.
Join us as we talk with Anthony Wood about his new book, Black Montana: Settler Colonialism and the Erosion of the Racial Frontier, 1877-1930. Anthony talks with us about his work on the Montana African American Heritage Resources Project and how this inspired him to delve deeper into the history of Montana's Black communities. His book explores the entanglements of race, settler colonialism, and the emergence of state and regional identity in the American West during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. By producing conditions of social, cultural, and economic precarity that undermined Black Montanans' networks of kinship, community, and financial security, the state of Montana, in its capacity as a settler colony, worked to exclude the Black community that began to form inside its borders after Reconstruction. We unpack this to better understand why Montana's Black community, and much of Montana's diverse early communities, left Montana before 1930. Anthony is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at the University of Michigan. He worked as a historian for the Montana Historical Society on Montana's African American Heritage Places Project. Seeker-driven church models have decayed the evangelical church. Avoiding words like “sin” & replacing Biblical teaching with worldly entertainment has left believers spiritually malnourished & churches unconverted.Due to popular demand, we've turned a recent video interview (Confessions of an Ex Seeker-Driven Preacher) into a podcast episode. Costi Hinn interviews his long-time pastor, Anthony Wood, about his time leading a ministry driven by numbers and the next best thing. Anthony honestly unpacks the tactics he used to coerce people forward and the lack of spiritual maturity that developed. Finally, the two share how the Lord graciously opened their eyes to Biblical preaching & how that transformed Mission Bible Church, from pastors to the pews.

Sue Ennis is an internationally-recognized songwriter. Best known for co-writing more than 70 songs with Ann and Nancy Wilson of the platinum-selling rock band Heart, Sue has more than 35 million records sold, including 10 gold, 4 platinum, 1 triple platinum and 1 quintuple platinum album. Sue recently co-wrote and performed on Nancy Wilson’s first solo album, You and Me, which was released last Friday. She also teaches songwriting workshops and her “Craft of Songwriting” class sells out every quarter at Shoreline Community college. What you will learn: How she met Ann and Nancy Wilson as a teen, and how that friendship blossomed into a decades-long songwriting collaboration. What it was like writing songs in the early days with Ann and Nancy, and how they have been able to maintain that same rapport and collaborative spirit for so long. How Sue collaborated with Nancy Wilson on Nancy’s first solo album, You and Me, which was written and recorded during the pandemic, and released in May of 2021. How Sue and Nancy collaborated to write and record the title track, You and Me, for Nancy’s first solo album. Why Sue chose not to pursue a career as a live performer. What she learned early in her career about copyright and publishing in the music industry. What Sue thought of the grunge scene in Seattle in the late 80s, why she was not initially impressed and didn't understand the appeal of Mother Love Bone when the band was first starting out, and why she has profound respect for Kelly Curtis who managed Mother Love Bone and later Pearl Jam after Anthony Wood passed away. The origin story of the Lovemongers, a band Sue formed with Ann and Nancy Wilson in the mid 90s. How music royalties are divided between songwriters, performers, and publishers. What it was like touring with Heart throughout Europe. How Sue met Bryan’s Dad, Greg Smith, when Greg was Heart’s tour pilot. Sue also tells the story of an adventure with Greg in Germany, which involved landing a plane at a closed airport on a dark runway. How songwriting is both a craft that can be taught/learned, and an art with an element of magic that perhaps can’t be taught/learned. What it was like receiving a limited edition, signature Nancy Wilson Martin Guitar in the mail, as a gift from Nancy. Sue’s advice for Bryan about how to finish a song he wrote in high school but never finished. 'He was a shiftless person, roving and maggotty-headed, and sometimes a little better than crazed. And being exceedingly credulous would stuff his many letters with fooleries and misinformations which sometimes would guide him into paths of error.' - Anthony Wood on John Aubrey 31st August 1667 Books: Brief Lives (edited by Richard Barber) and John Aubrey My Own Life by Ruth Scurr. It has been a strange year that has me thinking a lot of the troubles of the 17th century. A hero flittered through life in this time, always taken away from his passions by war, plague and the shiny objects and interesting people he desperately tried to make sense of. A magpie of knowledge with a brain to match, I have a huge affection for Mr John Aubrey, his scattered notes and collections make all our lives richer for his endeavours. It has been a while since I updated the Z List Dead List. I would be very grateful if you enjoyed this if you could share it with like minded folks. Leaving a review also helps out.
