Undertaken to raise funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance—the very service that saved his life 33 years ago—this journey is more than a physical challenge; it's a meditation on life, purpose, and the bonds we share.Amidst the physical exhaustion and the focus required to navigate roads not designed for wheelchairs, Steven receives news of a dear friend's passing. This friend, who shared a similar life journey, prompts Steven to contemplate mortality, the value of seizing the day, and the importance of helping others. He delves into the inner dialogues we all experience—the committee of voices that either propel us forward or hold us back—and emphasizes the choice we have in which voices we listen to.This episode is a raw and honest exploration of finding meaning in the moment, the nourishment that comes from helping others, and the simple yet profound purposes that guide us daily.Quotes from the Episode:"It's a celebration that we're still here. If you're listening to this, you're alive.""Try to find something in life you love. And just do that. And I don't mean in a 'find your purpose' because I think finding your one life purpose, I think that's bollocks. I think your purpose right now is if you're cold, put on a jumper."Thank you for joining Steven on this journey. Your support and understanding mean the world to him. This call comes after an exposé by Nexus Forensic Services revealed that R123 million was misappropriated from the NSF to purchase luxury cars and a farm. The report implicates Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, in unethical practices at the NSF. Nzimande reportedly fought to keep the report confidential. The R123 million was meant for a project to buy rabbits, train communities in rabbit farming, and export rabbit meat overseas. Starting in October 1838, more than 16,000 Cherokee people who had been forced from their homes in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee began their journey to Indian Territory, in what is now known as Oklahoma. Undertaken through the fall and winter, the journey was fatal for a fourth of the population. The various routes became known collectively as the Trail of Tears, which passes right through present-day Nashville. The Cherokee were not the only people swept up in the ethnic cleansing of the Southeast. Members of the Muscogee, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Seminole nations were also forced to walk the trail. Today, some portions of the trail are clearly marked, with interpretive panels and information for visitors. Other segments are less clearly marked, if they're marked at all. We talk with some of the people working to keep this history alive. But first, health care reporter Blake Farmer has an update on the Vanderbilt pediatric transgender clinic and the political campaign against it. A new study led by Northwestern University researchers used machine learning to identify speech patterns in children with autism, and showed that the patterns were consistent between English and Cantonese, suggesting that features of speech might be a useful tool for diagnosing the condition, Neuroscience News reports. Undertaken with collaborators in Hong Kong, the study yielded insights that could help scientists distinguish between genetic and environmental factors shaping the communication abilities of people with autism, potentially helping them learn more about the origin of the condition and develop new therapies, according to Neuroscience News. GOSPEL POWER l APRIL 22, 2022 Friday within the Octave of Easter Gospel: Jn 21:1-14 1 Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias; and he showed himself in this way. 2 Gathered there together were Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4 Just after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach; but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Jesus said to them, “Children, you have no fish, have you?” They answered him, “No.” 6 He said to them, “Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish. 7 That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the sea. 8 But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, only about a hundred yards off. 9 When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. 10Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred fifty-three of them; and though there were so many, the net was not torn. 12Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” because they knew it was the Lord. 13Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. The disciples' fishing expedition symbolizes the Church's mission. Undertaken on their own initiative, it is doome T he disciples' fishing expedition symbolizes the Church's mission. Undertaken on their own initiative, it is doomed to turn into a futile exercise, for without the Lord they can do nothing. Mission cannot proceed without a mandate. It is only when the Lord directs it and when those directed obey his word that it can produce the desired result — an amazing catch. Interestingly, the disciples are unable to haul the fish into the boat because of its large number. Seven able-bodied fishermen do not have enough strength for the job. But when the risen Lord issues the command to “bring some of the fish,” Peter single-handedly drags the net ashore. The word of the Lord makes the difference, and obedience to it endows the disciple with power to accomplish the task on hand. Certainly, “it is the Lord,” and woe to us if we forget! Lord Jesus, keep us always aware that success in the mission comes only from obeying your word, for without you, we can accomplish nothing. Amen

The Vera Rubin Observatory will house a survey telescope that will image the night sky faster and deeper than ever before. Its camera, at 3.6 Gigapixels, will be the biggest digital camera ever built. The Rubin Observatory will be able to image the entire visible sky every few nights, and build up, over 10 years, a 900-frame full color movie of the deep night sky. This will enable a wide variety of scientific explorations, from the outer reaches of our Solar System, through our Milky Way Galaxy and its dark matter halo, and out into the extra-galactic universe, where we hope to see new types of cosmic explosions and the weird effects of the mysterious Dark Energy. Dr. Phil Marshall (of Stanford University) gives a guided tour of the Observatory, describes the planned sky survey, discusess the challenges of doing astronomy at petabyte scale, and shows how we can all take part in Rubin's voyage of discovery.

National Gallery of Australia | Audio Tour | Grace Cossington Smith
Among Cossington Smith’s most remarkable paintings are those of the South Coast of New South Wales at Thirroul and Bulli. Undertaken after the death of her beloved mother, who had been ill for some time, they convey a mesmerising transcendent dimension. The brushmarks are immensely varied: square, angular, feathery and delicately stippled. These works are about continuity in nature and continuity of the spirit. In the waves of movement radiating outwards and the undercurrents of complex feeling, these works are intensely personal and spiritual.
