Inconsistency is one of the fastest ways to lose trust, credibility, and high-level opportunities. In this episode of The Kelly Roach Show, Kelly breaks down how chronic overcommitment shows up in subtle but damaging ways - from "posting and ghosting" online to constantly moving meetings, showing up stressed, or being hot and cold in relationships. These behaviors quietly signal disorganization, lack of boundaries, and unpredictability: all things that cause clients, collaborators, and partners to hesitate before investing their time, money, or reputation with you. Kelly walks you through the five biggest signs you're overcommitted, why high performers often mistake busyness for excellence, and how raising your personal standards around time, energy, and boundaries will directly elevate the quality of clients, relationships, and opportunities you attract in 2026. #752 What if the fastest way to more freedom, better clients, and a healthier life isn't working harder — but setting better boundaries? In this episode, host Brien Gearin welcomes back builder and podcast host Mark Williams (Mark D. Williams Custom Homes / The Curious Builder Podcast) for a powerful conversation centered on one core idea: boundaries create freedom. Mark shares how setting clear expectations — like communication protocols, protected meeting times, and even “no texting after hours” language written directly into client contracts — creates healthier client relationships, better projects, and a more sustainable business. The two also dig into personal boundaries at home, especially around phones and screen time, and why protecting your time, energy, and presence isn't selfish — it's what allows you to show up at your best for your business, your family, and yourself! What we discuss with Mark: + Boundaries create freedom + Client communication rules + No texting after hours + Protecting family time + Avoiding entrepreneurial burnout + Confidence in setting limits + Better clients through boundaries + Proactive communication systems + Wellness and performance + Leading by example Thank you, Mark! In this episode, Larry and Cody break down why assessments—not workouts—are the most powerful sales tool a coach can use. They explain how gathering meaningful data creates clarity, certainty, and trust, especially for clients willing to invest in premium services.  The conversation walks through the hierarchy of assessment—flexibility, mobility, competence, tolerance, and strength balance—and why meeting clients where they are matters more than making them sweaty. Coaches will hear real examples of how “workout assessments” often miss the mark and can even undermine confidence.  Finally, the episode connects assessment findings to outcomes clients actually care about. Instead of impressing prospects with jargon, Larry and Cody show how simple explanations turn confusion into buy-in. If you want to stand out, charge appropriately, and sell ethically, this episode lays out the blueprint.

This Podcast Is Episode 637, And It's About Pillar 1: Marketing - Attracting The Right Construction Jobs A Guide for Small Construction Business Owners (from Your Bookkeeper's Point of View) As construction bookkeeping specialists, we spend a significant amount of time analyzing the numbers behind small construction businesses—everything from job costs to cash flow to profit margins. However, here's the truth most contractors don't hear enough: Your profitability starts before the job even begins. Yes, it starts with the jobs you say yes to—and more importantly, the ones you should start saying no to. In this post, we'll break down what it means to attract the right jobs, how doing so can transform your business, and what practical steps you can take today to stop chasing work that doesn't serve you. First, Why Most Contractors Struggle to Attract the Right Clients Small contractors often accept every job that comes their way, especially when they're just starting or concerned about cash flow. But this creates several problems: Low-paying work that barely covers your costs Clients who delay payment or constantly push scope boundaries Traveling too far for small, unprofitable jobs A lack of consistency in your portfolio and referrals If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. But this cycle drains your energy and your bank account. And it makes your bookkeeping a mess—because when job costs are unclear or inconsistent, it's hard to see which jobs made money and which didn't. The Right Job: What Does That Actually Mean? The "right" job looks a little different for every contractor, but here's a basic framework: You're qualified and equipped to do it well You can complete it profitably (based on your costs and ideal margin) It fits within your service area It aligns with the type of work you want to be known for The client respects your time and process When all five of these boxes are checked, it becomes easier to plan, price, and deliver the work, and you'll often get paid faster and with fewer headaches. Why Your Bookkeeper Cares About the Jobs You Choose From our side of the books, here's what we see when you start attracting better jobs: Cleaner job costing data, because each project has a clear scope and budget Healthier margins, because the client isn't nickel-and-diming you Improved cash flow, because payments come in on time More predictable expenses, so budgeting and forecasting become easier That provides a solid financial foundation to build upon. So, how do we make that shift? 6 Ways to Start Attracting Better Jobs   1. Define Your Niche Clearly Clients won't know what to hire you for unless you tell them—clearly and often. Specializing doesn't limit your options; it sharpens your value. Do you focus on bathrooms, decks, additions, or full remodels? Do you serve residential, commercial, or both types of clients? Are your ideal jobs $5,000 or $50,000? Once you define your sweet spot, you can market smarter and spend less time chasing the wrong leads. 2. Price Your Work with Confidence (Not Emotion) One of the biggest mistakes we see is pricing based on "what you think the client can afford" instead of what the job costs you. That's how good contractors end up underpaid and overworked. With proper job costing and an understanding of your overhead, you can create bids that are both competitive and profitable. And here's the kicker: high-quality clients don't just want the cheapest quote—they want clarity and professionalism. Pricing with confidence attracts better clients. 3. Professional Estimates and Invoicing = Trust Want to stand out from the competition without spending a dime on ads? Use detailed, easy-to-read estimates with clear line items Include terms, timelines, and payment schedules Send professional invoices on time, every time This builds trust right away—and clients are more likely to choose you over "Chuck in a truck," who scribbles an estimate on a notepad. 4. Use Photos, Reviews, and Referrals to Tell Your Story People hire those they trust. And in construction, trust is often built through: Before-and-after photos Client testimonials Word-of-mouth referrals If you're not already collecting these, make it part of your post-job checklist. Ask happy clients for a quick review or permission to take a photo of them. Share success stories on social media and your website. Your work speaks for itself—but only if people can see it. 5. Simplify Your Online Presence You don't need a fancy website to get found—you need: A Google Business Profile (with updated contact info and service area) A few recent photos and reviews A clear description of your services This makes it easy for local clients to find and trust you. We've seen contractors double their inquiries just from a well-maintained Google listing. 6. Pre-Qualify Your Leads Your time is valuable. Before driving out for a quote, ask a few key questions: What's the project timeline? What's your rough budget? Have you worked with contractors before? Is the property ready for work to begin? These questions help you avoid tire-kickers and focus on serious leads. How Bookkeeping Supports Better Marketing Decisions Once you've improved your lead quality and project fit, your bookkeeping data becomes a valuable asset. You'll start to see: Which types of projects are your most profitable Which areas or clients tend to pay faster What marketing sources bring the best leads This allows you to double down on what works—and stop wasting time and money on what doesn't. The Payoff: Less Stress, Better Clients, Stronger Business When you start attracting the right jobs: You waste less time quoting projects that go nowhere You gain consistency in your income and schedule Your financial reports become easier to understand and use You build a brand that clients want to refer and return to It's not about doing more—it's about doing smarter. Need Help Getting Clear on Your Numbers? If you're unsure what your ideal job actually costs—or how to price it for profit—we can help. As construction bookkeeping specialists, we don't just categorize expenses; we also ensure that they are accurately recorded and accounted for. We help you understand: Job costing Profit margins Overhead Cash flow So you can build with confidence and say yes only to the jobs that grow your business, not drain it. Do you need help setting up your job costing system or reviewing your project margins? Book a free consultation, and let's ensure your books are aligned with the type of work you want to do. Are you the most pet biz expensive in town – or are still pretending premium pricing doesn't apply to you? BIG MISTAKE my friend!  Is your ‘modest' price actually holding your business back rather than giving it life? You bet it is!  And what's the REAL cost of undercharging in a high-potential, high-pressure industry like pet care?  Well, it could be fatal for your business... In this episode, Dom pulls back the curtain on a never-before-shared segment from last year's Pet Business Owners Assemble event A.K.A IMPACT – this was a Marvel-themed masterclass that set the stage for this year's “Claim the Crown” Impact summit. You'll hear Dom unpack the true superpower every pet business owner needs to master: pricing. It's not just a number on your website, but the key to authority, better clients, stronger margins, and a more resilient business. You'll also get some compelling reasons why charging more isn't just possible - it's essential. Dom lays out why raising your rates might be the single most strategic move you make this year.  Plus, you'll hear a gritty, unfiltered teaser from this year's keynote speaker Eve Molzhon, who went from being a trailer park kid to operating a seven-figure daycare empire.  In this episode, you'll discover: The Premium Power Move – Why raising your rates isn't risky—it's the most strategic decision you can make. Say thanks and learn more about our podcast sponsor Omnisend. In this insightful episode of The WP Minute+, Kurt and Toby dive deep into the business mechanics behind running a WordPress-based web agency. They explore the power of blueprints: predefined, productized service packages to streamline work, deliver consistent results, and increase profitability. Rather than reinventing the wheel for every client, creating reusable setups lets agencies charge more for less effort while offering high-value, fast-launch solutions. They also confront the reality of burnout and the importance of creating systems that minimize stress while maximizing effectiveness. The conversation shifts into the freelancer-to-agency mindset transformation, stressing the need to move beyond hourly billing and toward value-based pricing. Kurt and Toby emphasize that many freelancers undervalue their work by associating speed with cheaper rates, when in fact, expertise should warrant higher pricing. The guys also discuss client management, feature creep, and sales strategy. They argue that most clients are less concerned with WordPress release schedules than developers assume, and that focusing on sales and client relationships is more crucial than chasing the latest features or trends. They also highlight the importance of saying “no” to misguided client ideas and protecting your energy and time as an agency owner or freelancer.Key TakeawaysProductizing services through blueprints leads to faster delivery and higher perceived value.Burnout is real, and managing it requires delegation, focusing on strengths, and structured schedules.Value-based pricing beats hourly billing; charging more for faster, higher-quality outcomes is fair and smart.Freelancers transitioning to agency owners must start thinking about scale, margins, and team delegation.Client success starts with responsiveness. Answering emails and calls quickly can lead to upsell opportunities and long-term relationships.Sales and marketing should consume a significant portion of your weekly workload to maintain a healthy pipeline.Important Links:Kurt's Agency: Mañana No MasToby's Agency: The Mighty Mo!Follow Kurt & Toby:LinkedIn: Kurt | TobyThe WP Minute+ Podcast: thewpminute.com/subscribe Support us for as little as $5 to join our members-only Slack group. ★ Support this podcast ★

What's the difference between a successful freelancer and one who struggles with feast or famine? It's not how good you are at your craft, but how you position yourself to clients. Amy Posner is a seasoned online entrepreneur and business coach who helps digital creative freelancers build breakthrough businesses. Over her 30-year career, she's launched six successful businesses (five of which are still in business today) and mentored thousands of freelancers to success.  Now, Amy focuses on empowering freelancers to grow the business they want by teaching them the skills they need to attract the right clients inside her Complete Breakthrough Freelancer course and on her podcast, Business Badassery. Overcoming Feast or Famine The biggest challenge for freelancers is feast or famine–a windfall of work followed by a period of little to no income. The best way to overcome this is with business systems and processes, so you always have another project in the pipeline. Amy teaches her students skills like writing proposals, selling on calls, and communicating the value they deliver. Many successful freelancers give their clients expert strategic advice, but are selling themselves as order takers–someone who does nothing more than follow orders and create deliverables. If you position yourself as a strategist, you're perceived as much more valuable.  The Difference between an Order Taker and an Expert The primary difference between order takers and experts is that experts deliver an experience, not just deliverables. It starts on the discovery call, when you first connect with the client. High-quality clients want a strategic partner, someone they can trust to give them expert advice and who is interested in getting results. Once you've landed the client, you need to deliver on the experience you've promised. When in doubt, overcommunicate and overdeliver. Again, systems and processes come in handy here. Keep the client in the loop on what's happening, especially for longer projects. Be reliable and do what you say you're going to do. Enjoy this episode with Amy Posner… Soundbytes 12:29-12:43 “I see so many successful freelancers who are giving expert advice, and they're counseling as experts, but they're selling themselves as a creator of deliverables. And you're seen in a very different light.” 18:02-18:21 “The truth is, you don't need a unique perspective. You need a perspective. If a client's going out looking, they don't care that I think the same thing you do. They care what I think. So they're not looking necessarily for originality. They're looking for a stake in the ground, that you believe in something and that you have something to say.”  Quotes “What I noticed was that you could be really great at your craft. And if you didn't have commensurate business skills, you didn't do as well as mediocre craftspeople who had the business side down.” “Nobody gets into business to sell stuff. They get into business because they love doing a thing.”  “I'm a chronic over-deliverer. I like to get invested in people and in getting results.” Links mentioned in this episode: From Our Guest Website: https://amyposner.com/ Connect with Amy Posner on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/amyposnerbusinessgrowthmentor/  Connect with brandiD Download our free guide to learn 16 crucial website updates that attract more leads and convert visitors into clients: https://thebrandid.com/website-tweaks/ Ready to elevate your digital presence with a powerful brand or website? Imagine viewing your everyday challenges as levels in a video game, where you learn to laugh off minor annoyances and focus on the truly important quests. Our episode kicks off with a personal tale of how a father's short stint in the NFL surprisingly fueled a career trajectory that now involves working closely with professional athletes. This journey highlights the unpredictable paths life can take and how they can align with our aspirations. We also ponder the simulation theory and the notion of a creator, while humorously acknowledging how dogs might be the best judges of a person's energy.Transitioning from life's philosophical musings, we draw analogies between romantic partnerships and business relationships. The quest to find the right fit becomes an enlightening exploration of client dynamics. Reflecting on my own experiences, I share insights from eight years in business, where understanding the psychological nuances of clients can be as crucial as demographic data. Discovering the ideal client isn't just about ticking boxes; it's about learning from past experiences, navigating through difficult client situations, and ultimately creating successful relationships by balancing hard metrics with intangible qualities. In today's bustling digital marketing world, where the tension between quantity and quality prevails, our conversation shifts to strategies for thriving in this landscape. Much like in dating, the focus on quality over quantity is emphasized through the selection of client management systems and marketing strategies. Finally, we delve into the specifics of B2B marketing within the construction industry, where branding and crafting compelling RFPs are pivotal.
