Bianca Campbell is an example of what is POSSIBLE! Working with aspiring mindset coaches over many years, I've had the pleasure of coaching and cheering on some of the most inspirational people in this industry. And even in a room of high achievers and entrepreneurial badasses, Bianca Campbell stands. As a former collegiate and professional basketball player, Bianca founded RISE Mindful Performance to help athletes use mindfulness and mental skills training to embrace and navigate the demands of their sport. Her goal is to help athletes improve their well-being, have more fun, and perform at their highest level - in sports and in life. When Bianca first joined The Mindset Coach Academy, she applied the same unquenchable passion and take-no-prisoners attitude that made her successful in sports into moving through fear and doubt to build her business from the ground up. In this episode, Bianca shares how she came to Mindset Coaching through countless hours of studying, researching, and manifesting. How (and why) she pushed herself to join The MCA as a brand new mom, and where she found the money to make it happen. She opens up about the various emotional ups and downs, and her very relatable self-sabotaging thoughts such as, “I can't live my dream AND be a good wife and mother”. As she told her MCA class, “I just know that I am not meant to be mediocre”. It's this relentless seeking of excellence that palpably inspires those around her. Bianca has a unique way of making you believe that anything is possible, and reminding you that you have a responsibility to live the highest representation of yourself. Erika's book is a stunning and captivating story of the intersection of nature vs nurture with twins, interracial adoption, identity, and the meaning of family. This was such a powerful conversation. Listen in to hear Erika share: About her book, Somewhere Sisters, the true story of twin girls, born in Vietnam and separated at birth, and raised in different parts of the world How she reconstructed the sisters Ha and Loan's stories and their reunion when they were 13 The science around nature vs. nurture from twin studies The unexpected trauma that can come with twin and adoptee reunification that we don't see play out in TV and movies How she had to follow the journalistic truth of each person's story in the book and not be connected to her own hopes for the girls and the story The legislative loophole in which international adoptees are not automatically granted citizenship and the push for legislation to change it The ethical considerations of interracial adoption How sharing our layered identities with one another allows for a more connected human experience Links mentioned: Book: Somewhere Sisters Erika on Twitter Thank you to our sponsors this month: care.com: Get the help you need to make it all work for your family at care.com/book. I couldn't help but dig into something I've been working on in live time: TRIGGERS. It seems everybody is talking about their triggers these days - to the point that it's almost cliche. In fact, the term is used so loosely that it can be insulting to folks who have experienced serious trauma and have triggers that deeply impact their ability to show up and function in the world. I've made no secret about my PTSD diagnosis. Over the last couple of years, I have been exploring this diagnosis in therapy and more recently in a hypnotherapy session. I have learned so much. In today's episode, I'm sharing a bit about what I've learned as it relates to the things that trigger me. It's important to note that I am not a therapist or a mental health professional. I'm sharing this because I think some of you will be able to relate to and learn from my anecdotal experience. If this episode triggers you or makes you curious about hypnotherapy, you can reach out to my hypnotherapist Nadia Ahrens at nadiaahrens.com. For many people, there are few worse things than rejection or the threat of rejection. The fear of rejection can cause anxiety, depression, and the most relentless stress. It can stop us from going after what we want and what we deserve. It can keep us stuck for a season - or a lifetime. When you think about fear of rejection and what that might look like for you, I want you to consider what might drive your fear of rejection. What might the underlying causes be? Some common causes of fear of rejection are: Past life events Past rejection or abandonment Past trauma Poor self-worth, self-esteem, sense of self Susceptibility to anxiety, self-criticism If you can identify where your fear of rejection stems from, it's more likely you can talk your way through it and give it less power over you. For example, as a person who was abandoned by her father as a little girl and again as a 38-year-old woman & new mom, it is helpful for me to remind myself that my father was unable to show up for me for a myriad of reasons. Those reasons were his. They are not a reflection of my worth or my value. They are also not any indication of how others will treat me. In fact, every other human in my life has shown they are very capable of showing up and supporting me. When I talk myself through all this, I can see how I am very likely to be supported in my life no matter what I go after or if I screw up from time to time. In this example, you can see where my fear of rejection might stem from as well as how I walk myself through it. You can see that in accepting my fear, labeling my fear, affirming my worth, and challenging my beliefs/past narratives, I'm able to walk my way right through this fear to a healthier place where I can show up for new things, hard things, big things, scary things - knowing that I don't have to be perfect, get everything right, impress anyone or prove anything. In this episode, I talk through 7 steps you can take to overcome the fear of rejection in order to show up for your life, go after what you want, and get all that you deserve. I know I'm not supposed to have favorites, but I can't help myself. One of my all-time favorite episodes to record was Mom Guilt Is a Lie. The reason I loved this episode is multipronged. First, I pointed out to you that the mom guilt you feel (that is very real) comes from a massive lie fed to you by the Patriarchy. Second, in making it clear where your guilt comes from, many of you would be able to release the grip that mom guilt has had on you over the years. And finally, I knew that if you could see mom guilt as a myth, you could also become someone who questions other culturally ingrained messages for moms - liberating not only yourself from the constant marginalization of moms, but hopefully so many other moms around you too! While I know many of you benefitted from that episode, I know that you are not miraculously healed. You are likely still struggling with mom guilt. My hope is that this episode will help you see how mom guilt plays a role in your life - likely a harmful role - so you may begin to heal from it. In this episode, I talk through 3 ways mom guilt is harming you. Once you see the ways it is harming you, it's likely you will see how you can start to let it go in order to show up for your life in new and liberated ways! She has been active for many years as a speaker and school trustee and is credited for creating The Buckley School's nationally recognized committee on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice. Currently, she sits on the advisory boards of the San Diego Writer's Festival and the Outliers HQ podcast Festival. Laura is a longtime friend of the show and perhaps the most frequent guest of the show. She has shared her brilliance and her heart with us in so many ways over the last few years. Today, she is sharing her story with us in a new way - talking about the release of her stunningly breathtaking memoir, Stash. I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of Laura's book and read it on my way to & from London last fall. I found myself trying to contain my crying and cheering for my dear friend, Laura, on each flight. Her mommy heart broke mine in half as I read about her journey into deep addiction and then my heart healed right alongside hers as I saw her embrace recovery and say YES to herself and her boys over and over again. Listen in to hear Laura share: Her desire for her high profile marriage to “legitimize” her worth Her path to crippling perfectionism and how it led her to a near fatal Ambien addiction How Stash addresses the intersection of addiction, race, gender, motherhood and class The misnomer that parents who are addicts choose drugs or alcohol over their children The significance of her authoring this book as a Black women working through addiction and into recovery Links mentioned: Get the STASH and connect with Laura: theonlyonepod.com Podcast: The Only One in the Room Laura on IG The Only One in the Room on IG Thank you to our sponsors this month: care.com: Get the help you need to make it all work for your family at care.com/book. As I've worked with women through growth and transformation over the last 20 years, I've had countless conversations about partners & spouses who, “just don't get it.” Back when I was working with my personal training clients and boot camp members, women would come to be fraught about spending money without their husband's approval. When I started running programs inside the SMA, moms came to me so eager to participate but very uncomfortable about talking to their husbands about investing money in an online program with a coach they met on the internet, especially a coach selling “personal development for moms”. I totally understand that it can be awkward to work on goals that aren't connected to your partner, especially if you haven't done that before. And… if that's you, I want to invite you to consider why you haven't taken steps to work on yourself independently in the past? Not from a place of judgment, but from a place of genuine curiosity. As I've helped so many women show up for themselves and step into growth over the last 20 years, I've also seen the frustration that comes when you are growing, growing, growing, and hoping your partner will follow suit, and they're like, “Nah, I'm good.” There can be a decent amount of tension when partners are growing in different directions or one partner is committed to growth and the other is not. As you've become more Shameless as a listener of this show, perhaps you've wondered, “How do I encourage my partner to make some of the changes I've made?” In today's episode, I talk through this tension. The tension of becoming more autonomous. The tension of codependency. The tension of doing your own work and letting a partner decide on their own what work they do or don't do. Gabrielle Blair a Shameless Mom of 6 and the founder of DesignMom.com. Started in 2006, it has been named a Website of the Year by Time magazine; praised as a top parenting blog by The Wall Street Journal, Parents, and Better Homes & Gardens; and it won the Iris Award for Blog of the Year. In 2015, Gabrielle published her New York Times bestseller, Design Mom: How to Live with Kids, a New York Times bestseller. Her second book, Ejaculate Responsibly, was just released and also became an instant New York Times Bestseller. Her writing is quoted and shared across the globe daily. If you follow her on Twitter, you know why. Gabrielle is also a founder of Alt Summit, the blockbuster annual conference for online content creators and creative entrepreneurs. I met Gabrielle at an event this fall and was immediately completely captivated by her work around her new book, Ejaculate Responsibly. Gabbi is a force and this conversation is going to expand your head and heart in many ways. Listen in and share widely. The world needs this message - desperately. Listen in to hear Gabrielle share: Why she has always integrated “controversial” content into her parenting blog, Design Mom, and how that led to her writing Ejaculate Responsibly Her mission to put men at the center of attention and center of responsibility when it comes to the conversation around unwanted pregnancies Why the management of women's fertility should be shifted to the management of MEN'S fertility since men are fertile 365 days a year and women are fertile for a mere 36 or so hours a month. Why we have built a 100+ billion dollar women's birth control industry around the idea that we don't mind if women suffer as long as it makes things easier for men The reality that most men are actually quite open to taking responsibility for their ejaculation if they are given the right information How to talk to your kids about responsible ejaculation Links Mentioned: Gabrielle's Book: Ejaculate Responsibly: A Whole New Way to Think About Abortion See Gabrielle on tour: Book Tour: https://designmom.com Check out Alt Summit: https://altitudesummit.com/ Gabrielle on Twitter and Instagram: @designmom Amy Lang on the SMA: Birds & Bees & Kids Amy Lang on the SMA: Sex Talk with Tweens Thank you to our sponsors this month: care.com: Get the help you need to make it all work for your family at care.com/book. My badass guest today is PPT Certified Mindset Coach and founder of The Elite Competitor Program, Breanne Smedley! When I first met Breanne in 2019, she had just taken out a new credit card to pay for the MCA Certification. Now, Breanne is making $500k per year AS A MINDSET COACH. Yep, you read that right. After graduating from The Mindset Coach Academy, Breanne went on to start The Elite Competitor Program with her sister-in-law, Kristina. Their focus is to give female athletes the mental skills they need to navigate the normal pressures of their sport AND give support and accountability tools to their moms. Today, their business is expanding in every direction with no signs of slowing down. What I love about this episode is how Breanne takes us through her evolution. She didn't go from $0 to 500k overnight. Her path to 500k was riddled with self-doubt, failure, dead ends, and general hard stuff. Her success comes from her determination to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Today, she's giving us an inside look at her mindset and business journey to 500k. If you are considering joining us for our Mindset Coach Academy Certification program in the spring, or simply want to know what it's like to become a Mindset Coach, this episode is a must-listen. So, we always go to what are we telling ourselves? Because what we think about most becomes our reality and what we think about, we move towards what we think about most.[00:07:27] Situations happen every day, but we do get to control how we think about it.[00:08:20] Our thoughts lead to our emotions and how we feel.[00:08:52] Feelings lead to actions. We take action or not. Inaction is also an action.[00:09:32] We get our results in life based on the action that we take or don't take.[00:11:43] Let your actions drive your emotions, not the other way around.[00:12:28] What are the thoughts right now today that are like running around in your head? Get them out and decide which ones you want to keep decide, which ones you're like, okay, that's ridiculous. Why am I even thinking that, get rid of that? And which ones are you going to change to be more productive?[00:12:43] Productive thinking is more important than positive thinking.[00:17:25] Just stopping all physical and working on mental isn't the only way that you can do mental training.[00:18:14] They shank a pass in that moment mentally, they're taking a breath, they're saying the reset word, the focusing on what they want to see for the next one. So, they're practicing a mental skill right there.[00:19:07] Two clap. You mess up, clap frustration, clap to energize.[00:19:42] It's one breath, a reset word, and a gesture of their choice.[00:20:45] Every water break, you're going to do your mistake ritual. So that, it's something that your body knows to respond to.[00:23:39] Today, we're going to write down 10 things that you're proud of and athletes struggle with that…think about things in your life that you're proud of to remind yourself what you're capable of.[00:24:25] We're talking about like the three things that we did well that we want to repeat, and the one thing that we're going to work on and an action plan to improve it, not I'm just going to beat myself up about it.[00:24:45] Habit reshaping has a hundred percent failure rate when you try to work on more than one at a time. That's what the research says.[00:28:20] What do you see? What do you smell? What does it feel like? What feelings are going on? We want to create that picture with as much detail as you can.[00:30:02] The athletes that aren't able to trust that they have a way to recover either, through visualization, through having a mistake ritual, they just don't ever perform to the level that we as coaches know they could.[00:32:20] Stay in the moment and repeat the moment based on what the circumstance calls for, not your fear of failure.[00:34:31]If you have strong female coaches and strong leaders It's not as celebrated as much, and we're told some, dial it down a little bit and don't go there and constantly even to the point where like we're not offered opportunities in the same way.[00:34:45]We really want to make sure that females are learning how to step into their authentic selves and learning how to be leaders that embrace just who they are.[00:35:45]Don't apologize for being competitive. Don't apologize for the way in which you show up, even though society is telling you differently.
Body image worries. Fears of excelling and being chosen to lead. These issues undermine girls' experiences in sports. Girls and young women not only worry about how they look; they're concerned that other girls will be angry with them for doing well and being chosen for leadership positions, says Breanne Smedley, a certified female athlete Confidence Coach, former college volleyball player, youth sports coach and founder of The Elite Competitor. Girls and young women also mirror their mothers' confidence issues, she says.

Why don't you see that? Like, why don't you believe in yourself at the same way that I do? And I'm like, gosh, I'm seeing a mirror of myself right here in high school.[00:08:16] Kids are the same everywhere. And I need to figure out this mental side of it.[00:08:36] How can we help equip athletes with the skills to perform under pressure, to believe in themselves, to come back from mistakes and not let one mistake turned into three, four or five.[00:08:47] Helping female athletes, cultivate confidence and mental skills in themselves, on the court and off the court.[00:11:19] The thing that was holding me back wasn't that I didn't love the sport, it was the pressure that I was putting on myself.[00:14:21] We think, I've played at a high level. Like it should just come naturally. Coaching should come naturally, and it doesn't.[00:16:15] Every kid is different and I need to meet them where they are.[00:17:10] We have to work harder to create this program of like unity and pride that people don't want to leave and want to come to you.[00:19:03] Equipping athletes with the mental skills and the confidence that they need to perform well in their sport.Because if athletes can do that individually, so they develop that deep sense of belief in themselves. So, they trust themselves, they have the skills to overcome mistakes, challenges, failures, they know how to properly prepare for a match and deal with those nerves and play well. If they take care of that, our whole program is going to be strong.[00:20:27] When I was athlete, I was like, am I the only one that feels this like enormous pressure? Am I the only one that gets like so nervous before a game that like, I feel like I could throw up? Am I the only one that feels like, if I make a mistake, I'm going to let everyone down?[00:23:03] He just greatly influences his athletes just by the energy that he brings to practice.[00:23:24] He's like all about like just, celebrating his athletes and focusing on the good which we know is important.[00:23:44]As coaches, we have an enormous impact on the energy and how our players perform and just in how we show up.[00:24:30] You can control the energy in your space. You are responsible for that. That's a controllable aspect, right? Versus some of these other things that may not be, right?[00:28:00] I don't want to say oh, I've just come become more soft, but I think for me, I've become a lot more understanding empathetic of like where players are coming from and like that they have so much on their plates.[00:29:25] Coach, you're soft. And it's no, I've actually learned to listen to my athletes, which I didn't have that skill when I was coaching you. And I'm sorry.[00:34:08] When I started the business, it was like this almost like imposter syndrome. Should I be doing this? This is in alignment with what I'm doing, but it's a little different, what are people going to think differently of me?[00:34:24] If something is moving in a direction that you don't like, you can change it.And that's okay. And that's part of life and you don't have to stay stuck in something either that, isn't serving you at the moment and that there's like seasons in life.[00:35:29] There are seasons and you can change your mind. And it doesn't mean you're a hypocrite. It means that you've reevaluated and here's what's important now, even though this used to be what made sense.
