Cabinet Minister Evan Solomon tells The CJN in a wide-ranging interview how the government is 'highly engaged' in monitoring terrorist threats against Canada's Jewish community. Solomon spent much of last week carrying out his official role as Canada's first Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, making funding announcements to support local researchers and entrepreneurs. But on Dec. 14, the rookie politician made a point to tell Canadians about the impact that the Bondi Beach Hanukkah massacre had on Canada's Jewish community—including himself. Having already spoken to his rabbi and congregants at his synagogue, Holy Blossom Temple in midtown Toronto, he quickly headed downtown to City Hall to film a video of support, inviting Mayor Olivia Chow to join. Days later, he took part in a roundtable discussion with RCMP officials and other Canadian law enforcement agencies, where politicians and Jewish community leaders were briefed about the possibility of a domestic copycat attack. Solomon insists his government is “highly engaged” with what he calls the “unacceptable level” of antisemitic attacks and the “threat level” that's causing fear and anxiety for his community. Former National Cabinet Minister Hekia Parata has condemned Veterans' Affairs for its treatment of her late husband, Ta Wira Gardiner. 

Andrew Bayly is fighting to clear his name and claims he was misled about the allegations against him before he resigned as a Cabinet Minister. Bayly, the MP for Port Waikato, stood down as ACC and Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister after he “placed a hand” on a staff member's arm during what he described as an “animated discussion” in February. Bayley says the fact that no complaint had been made against him was contrary to what he was led to believe at the time - and he's determined to set the record straight. Chris Hipkins says Kiwis are starting to see things are going backwards under the current Government. The latest RNZ-Reid Research poll reveals more voters blame the coalition for the struggling economy, than the previous Labour Government. This is despite senior Cabinet Ministers claiming a financial mess was left behind by Labour. Hipkins says Labour will set out ways it could improve the economy, but right now the ball's in the Government's court. Minister for Arts, Culture and Sports Patrick O'Donovan has accused hotels of “robbing people up to their eyeballs” especially around the times of major events, saying that dynamic pricing is unacceptable. ACT's leader says now is a good time for the Government to think about its organisation. Jaishankar was scheduled to brief on India-China relations.The Supreme Court on Monday expressed its concern over DMK leader Senthil Balaji being reinstated as minister in the M K Stalin-led government in Tamil Nadu shortly after it granted him bail in a money laundering case. The court was hearing a plea that sought to recall the September 26 order granting bail to Balaji on the ground that his reinstatement would put witnesses under pressure. The Supreme Court had granted him bail on the ground that there was no likelihood of the trial beginning anytime soon. Justice A S Oka questioned quote, “We grant bail and the next day you go and become Minister? Anybody will be bound to be under the impression that now with your position as a senior Cabinet Minister witnesses will be under pressure. What is this going on?” unquote.Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been formally invited to visit India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the dates for his visit will be set in early 2025. This will be Putin's first visit to India in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war that started in February 2022. Putin's India visit will come as part of a laid-down structure between the two countries for reciprocal annual visits by their leaders. The announcement about Putin's India visit comes days after the election of US President Donald Trump, who is also expected to visit India next year for the QUAD Summit.Noida authorities on Monday issued a traffic advisory stating Delhi Police and Gautam Buddha Nagar Police will put up barriers and increase security on all the borders adjoining Gautam Buddha Nagar to Delhi, in light of a farmers protest march. Thousands of farmers, under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Samyukt Kisan Morcha and other farmer groups, shifted their ongoing protest demanding the allocation of 10% developed plots for farmers displaced by land acquisition, implementation of new legal benefits, and the adoption of recommendations by a state committee for farmer welfare.On the global front, the Syrian opposition-run rescue service known as the White Helmets confirmed at least 25 people were killed in northwestern Syria in air strikes carried out by the Syrian government and Russia.
