Khaled Barakeh talked about his art work on reframing moments of dissonance, and often outright injustice, in political, and social structures.Khaled Barakeh is a conceptual artist and cultural activist. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus in 2005 and received his MFA from Funen Art Academy in Odense, Denmark, in 2010. In 2013, he completed a Meisterschuler study at the Städelschule Art Academy in Frankfurt a.M., Germany. In recent years, his projects have delved into the media's portrayal of victims of conflict, once cohesive communities divided by political strife, and the dynamics of integration for refugees. You know, it really sucks when you're trying to cover up a murder and the guy's not dead. And then you try to drown him, but he's STILL not dead. And THEN, he passes you notes like some kid in middle school that “he KNOWS” or whatever. Some murder victims just don't know how to stay murdered. This is the case in 1997's I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, which Meg and Kris struggle with like so many crabs in a trunk. Let's just say they weren't exactly “hooked” on this one. You ever wonder why classic slasher films often surround a group of sexy teens made up of a promiscuous girl, a jock, a smart-ass, an idiot and a virgin? They're archetypes, you say. Well, what if I told you it's actually because of underground Lovecraftian gods who must be satiated with the blood of these very specific types in order to not destroy the entire world? Well, that IS what I'm telling you. This ep, Kris & Meg dive into the complicated world of CABIN IN THE WOODS, the 2011 horror-comedy attempting to turn all the tropes on their heads (seriously, every single one). Strap on your short skirt and heels and get ready to run, because this is one hell of a spooky ride.
