In this episode of Displaced in Space, Angelina and Sam discuss "Dark Frontier," Season 5, episode 15 (and 16) of Star Trek: Voyager! This week, it's a feature-length episode, yet we manage to keep our comments under two hours! Captain Janeway seems to be acting a bit out of character. However, the writers aren't, because they make sure to focus on Seven of Nine once again!

Born on June 28, 1909, in London, England, Ambler hailed from a family with a background in entertainment; his father was a music hall comedian, while his mother worked as a dressmaker. His early education took place at University College School in London, and later he pursued engineering studies at London University, although he opted to abandon his academic pursuits to embark on a career in writing. Initially, Ambler found employment as an advertising copywriter, but his passion for storytelling soon led him to the realm of novels. In 1936, he made his literary debut with "The Dark Frontier," marking the beginning of a prolific career. Notable works from the 1930s include "Epitaph for a Spy" and "Cause for Alarm," which firmly established him as a leading figure in the genre of spy and thriller fiction. During World War II, Ambler contributed his talents to the British War Office and the Ministry of Information, leveraging his expertise in propaganda and psychological warfare to aid the war effort. Post-war, he continued his literary journey with acclaimed novels like "Journey into Fear" and "The Schirmer Inheritance," both of which were successfully adapted into films. Ambler's distinctive writing style was characterized by meticulous attention to detail and the creation of multifaceted, realistic characters. His narratives often incorporated elements of political and social commentary, earning praise for their authenticity and relevance. In addition to his novels, Ambler ventured into screenwriting, contributing to notable productions such as the 1953 film "The Cruel Sea" and the iconic 1960s TV series "The Avengers." Throughout his illustrious career, Ambler received numerous accolades, including the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America in 1975 and the prestigious Diamond Dagger Award from the Crime Writers' Association in 1986. Even in his later years, Ambler remained dedicated to his craft, producing compelling novels well into his 80s. His final work, "The Care of Time," was published in 1981. Eric Ambler passed away on October 22, 1998, leaving behind a legacy as one of the foremost masters of spy and thriller fiction, with his captivating narratives continuing to captivate readers worldwide. When Captain Janeway starts fiddling with her comm badge, a risky heist to steal Borg technology leads to a Locutus 2.0 situation with Seven. But after reliving her assimilation through the USS Raven's logs, an ultimatum from Dax's ex-girlfriend makes Seven willing to stay in Borg City. What's the most shocking reason to be in a closet in Silver Lake? Where should you not fall asleep when you have an 8am class? Which crew member celebrates Captain Janeway Day? Forrest and Michael join us to talk about all things Borg. We talk about the Borg dark ages, how old Seven of Nine is, and of course how much the Hansens suck. What shapes do the Borg know beyond cubes? WHAT IS A HYPER CUBE?! Would you rather fight one giant Borg or 10-Children-Sized-Dakota-Fanning-from-War-of-the-Worlds Borg? Finally, we speculate on the new Star Trek movie that is totally real and totally coming out in 24 months.
It's Dark Frontier on the Drunk Frontier, and the quality of the discussion is more dubious than ever! Voyager finally offers up the Hansen family backstory long demanded by the masses, but will it be enough to save this movie-length tale from the rum-soaked scorn of the court? Can the Borg be outfoxed again? Will Janeway and Seven upgrade their dynamic from “contentious” to “romantically contentious?” Is “Dark Frontier” GOOD... or is it GARBAGE?

We are back to covering the Borg! Also back is the Borg queen, albeit in a slightly different skin and we mean that literally, and figuratively. Unimatrix Zero part 1 and 2 is the next show we will be covering!
Wieso, Borgqueen, wieso?
This never happened to the other podcast... Out of all the George Lazenby starring Bond movies, this is definitely the only one. It's a movie I alternate between loving and not loving, and this time it surprised me if only because I finally did it after (slowly) reading the original novel. We do the quiz again where I ask Drew about scenes or clips in the movie and ask if he thinks they happened in the book! Next week we go back to Star Trek and discuss the Voyager season 5 classic "Dark Frontier".

In 1997 Voyager scored one of its all time great highpoints ever with the Borg-centric two-parter Scorpion. But did lightning strike twice when the show's creative forces decided to return to the well during February sweeps a couple years later? This week hosts Cam Smith and Tyler Orton hop in their time-travelling diamond ship and head back to 1999 in order to revisit the popular feature-length epic tale Dark Frontier, which transported First Contact's Borg Queen into the television realm. Over the course of this energetic review the duo ponder the cybernetic species' dubious philosophy, Seven and her dueling symbolic mother figures and whether Caucasian male underwear models best represent the entire spectrum of humanity.
