Hannah and Adam have some tension over their new living-apart situation, and about how many bananas Adam likes in the morning, but hey: they keep banging in spite of it. Hannah takes Elijah over to finish the interview with Patti LuPone (and her husband), and finally quits GQ before doing maybe the most unforgivable series of things we've seen this only sort-of forgivable character ever do! Marnie almost works with a photographer she admires at the new gallery before a newly sober Jessa swoops in, and then Marnie closes the episode with a real 1-2 punch of an open mic performance with Desi, and a briefly closed doors performance with Ray. Alternating episodes of our Girls pod go to the Sex and the Cidiots normal feed, while EVERY episode — along with dozens of movies, all of Carrie Diaries, and S1 of Desperate Housewives — are available over on Patreon.com/KevinandJon. About "Sealed with a List" This movie premiered on Saturday, December 16th as part of the Countdown to Christmas closing weekend. “Sealed with a List” was filmed in and around New Westminster, BC. Some scenes were also filmed in Langley at Martini Town, a set owned by Martini Film Studios. Emily Ting and Melynda Bissmeyer, along with Robin Gadsby are the writers on this film. Emily and Melynda had previously worked together on “Christmas at the Golden Dragon” in 2022 and Robin wrote “A Christmas Cookie Catastrophe” and “Christmas Sail” - which is a super under rated fave of ours from 2021. Katie Findlay plays Carley. Katie has 30 previous acting credits including “Love Strikes Twice” in 2021 for Hallmark. You might also recognize her from “The Killing” on Netflix - which is an incredible crime thriller if you haven't seen it. Katie was also in 26 episodes of “The Carrie Diaries” which was a SATC prequel, “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist” and most recently “Walker: Independence” with fellow Hallmark actor, Katherine McNamara. Evan has 17 previous acting credits including the Aurora Teagarden prequel from earlier this year, “A Tale of Two Christmases” and “Autumn in the City” - all for Hallmark. Evan was also in 10 episodes of “Spinning Out” for Netflix where he used his experience on ice to use. BJ Harrison plays Millie. BJ is a familiar face for Hallmark. She has 139 acting credits and has 4 upcoming projects - including “Holidazed” a project that has been in post-production purgatory. Maybe we'll see it in 2024? The one, the only Candace Bushnell is on the show today! *insert fangirl screaming here* As Sex and the City is my favorite show of all time—and Candace, you know, created the whole franchise back in 1994—this is a dream come true. I actually met Candace in person in 2019, when she was on her book tour for Is There Still Sex and the City?, and I found her to be as lovely as I hoped she would be. Most people probably know Candace best from penning The New York Observer column “Sex and the City” from 1994 to 1996, which later became an anthology of the same name in 1996 and, of course, an HBO show of the same name in 1998. But actually, Candace is one of those unicorn writers that can tackle both fiction and nonfiction writing and do both well. My favorite works from Candace are actually her novels, of which there are many: 4 Blondes, Trading Up, Lipstick Jungle (also made into a television show), One Fifth Avenue, and Killing Monica. She's also written young adult fiction like The Carrie Diaries (also made into a television show), Summer and the City, and Rules for Being a Girl. Candace continues to evolve and pivot, and is now on tour with her one-woman show, “True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex and the City” (go to candacebushnell.com for more information!) and is also helming a reality dating show for women over 50 that is generating tons of buzz. It was an honor to do this career retrospective with not just a talented writer, but a really cool person. Sex and the City (1996) 4 Blondes (2000) Trading Up (2003) Lipstick Jungle (2005) One Fifth Avenue (2008) The Carrie Diaries (2010) Summer and the City (2011) Killing Monica (2015) Is There Still Sex and the City? (2019) Rules for Being a Girl (2020)
In this (pretty good!) episode, Carrie decides Mr. Big was the wrong way to go, it should have been Aidan forever, they have a sexy hotel week, and Aidan is very funny in how he tells a neighbor who they are. Miranda goes back to the internship she ditched, Charlotte has a very relatable struggle with her body until she finds out someone is heavier than her and suddenly feels better again, and Seema takes selfishness to new levels...but if you feel differently, we'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts! Kiwi actress Stefania LaVie Owen made her debut in 2009, in Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones. Other career highlights include The Carrie Diaries, The Beach Bum and Netflix originals Messiah and Sweet Tooth. Stefania LaVie Owen has returned to our screens for her latest film Paper Spiders, in which she plays Melanie, a teenager struggling with mother's mental illness. She says she was taken by the script early on, and she loved the depicted relationship between Melanie and her mother. "I feel like the story tackles mental health in a really beautiful way that's really a love story between a mother and daughter, as opposed to adding to the stigma of mental illness." This week, Les chats with actor and singer Claybourne Elder. Claybourne guest-starred in the second season of The CW's “The Carrie Diaries” and can currently be seen in “The Gilded Age” as John Adams. He's also a featured artist on the new album Sondheim Unplugged: The NYC Sessions – Volume Three – the final installment of the monumental three-volume set dedicated to Stephen Sondheim. The series always presents Sondheim's best-loved tunes, in addition to treasures from lesser-heard projects. This third edition features cut songs from Company (“Happily Ever After”) and Assassins (“Flag Song”). Claybourne recently was featured on This American Life, and he talks about that experience and the story that got him featured. It's a fun interview, and we hope you enjoy!
Austin Butler has gone from Carrie's first “Mr. Big” in the CW dramedy “The Carrie Diaries,” to a friggin' Oscar buzz-generating Elvis! And that's enough of a connection for us to drop this supersized podcast for you in between seasons on the Sex and the Cidiots feed. Baz Luhrmann's latest wacky ride also features Tom Hanks as Col. Tom Parker (if he was Austin Powers's Goldmember), a bunch of fun music, solid cameos, and several tremendous groin zooms. Teenage Bounty Hunters, Dare Me, The Carrie Diaries, The Wilds, First Kill, The Society, Genera+ion, Julie and the Phantoms, Anne with an E, and so many fucking others cancelled. I don't get it! I LOVE consuming media and I get so passionate about it and always tell my friends and others about it and look up theories online and shit for the best shows to get cancelled. I love analogies. Growing up there was a movie theater that went out of business but the screens and equipment were all left there so what they did was turned it into a $1.50 movie and it was amazing I was talking to my dad about it on the phone yesterday about how much I love movies and going and how I wish I could do it more often ( I am budgeting now so its definitely going to be harder) But what if there was a production company of the misfits and their only goal was to pick up the cancelled shows and try to make something of them. Some would fail but I bet some would rise as well. I feel like there is always an underdog that pulls through. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/al4s/message

Blood Sugar, her fiction debut, is a dark and utterly delicious noir thriller. In this episode, Mike and Sascha discuss: How Sascha's writing journey began Differences between writing for television and writing a novel Sascha's fiction debut, Blood Sugar Receiving notes as a TV writer Key Takeaways: Having a passion for writing is important, but it is your own will and perseverance to follow that path that will make you a great writer. Breaking into the world of writing for television is not easy. You must start at the bottom and be persistent, as well as work on your networking skills and try to enjoy the process until you climb the ladder and become a showrunner. What-ifs can be turned into great stories. All you have to do is follow your curiosity and swirl it into a plot while infusing your imagination into its structure. There are people who will give you notes, and they are often correct. A good writer does not become defensive when receiving notes; instead, they take them in and make it better. "Sit down and write because everyone has an idea in the middle of the night, everyone thinks they have an idea for a movie or book. But unless you write it down, you're not a writer." - Sascha Rothchild Buy Blood Sugar Amazon Bookshop.org Connect with Sascha Rothchild: Website: https://www.sascharothchild.com/ Email: contact@sascharothchild.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/sascharothchild Instagram: https://instagram.com/saschagrothchild Connect with Mike Carlon: Website: https://uncorkingastory.com/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSvS4fuG3L1JMZeOyHvfk_g Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/uncorkingastory/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/uncorkingastory Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/uncorkingastory LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/uncorking-a-story/ Show notes by Podcastologist: Angelica Rayco. If you're like me you probably have a lot of great ideas for books and articles that you get really excited about but kind of just go nowhere. But what about if you acted on some of these ideas, no matter what happened? That's what guest Sascha Rothchild does. Sascha has written for TV shows like GLOW and The Carrie Diaries. She wrote a memoir How to Get Divorced by 30: My Misguided Attempt at a Starter Marriage. And this month, she released her first novel, a fun thriller called Blood Sugar. On the pod, Sascha talks about how she manages to make the time for her passion projects even when she's not on the clock.

Sascha explains why this is so important to her personally and how creating complicated characters has been a central part of her career. This episode of the Crime Cafe podcast features my interview with crime writer, screenwriter, and producer Sascha Rothchild. Check out our discussion of her debut novel Blood Sugar! And a bit of chat about screenwriting. This is the Crime Cafe, your podcasting source of great crime, suspense and thriller writing. I'm your host Debbi Mack. Before I bring on my guest, I'll just remind you that the Crime Cafe has two eBooks for sale: the nine book box set and the short story anthology. You can find the buy inks for both on my website, debbimack.com under the Crime Cafe link. You can also get a free copy of either book if you become a Patreon supporter. You'll get that and much more if you support the podcast on Patreon, along with our eternal gratitude for doing so. Check us out on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/crimecafe Debbi (00:54): But first, let me put in a good word for Blubrry podcasting. I'm a Blubrry affiliate, but that's not the only reason I'm telling you this. I've been using Blubrry Podcasting as my hosting service for my podcast for years and it's one of the best decisions I ever made. They give great customer service, you're in complete control of your own podcast, you can run it from your own website, and it just takes a lot of the work out of podcasting for me. I find for that reason that it's a company that I can get behind 100% and say, “You should try this.” Try Blubrry. It doesn't require a long-term contract, and it's just a great company, period. It also has free technical support by email, video, and phone, so you can get a human being there. Isn't that nice? If you want to podcast, try out Blubrry. No long-term contract, excellent distribution, and great technical support, too, by email, video, and on the phone. I've included an affiliate link on this blog. Here's a PDF transcript of the interview! Debbi: Hi everyone. Our guest on the final episode of Season 7 of the Crime Cafe is an Emmy-nominated screenwriter who just released her debut novel, Blood Sugar and I have a copy right here and check out that cover! If you're watching on YouTube, I tell you that is a beautiful cover. Her credentials include working on the public radio show This American Life, writing a memoir-turned-screenplay called How to Get Divorced by 30, writing and producing various television shows—GLOW, The Bold Type, The Baby-Sitters Club and The Carrie Diaries, to name a few. And she's now a showrunner for a Netflix series. Her feature film screenplay Who Invited Her? has been optioned by DreamWorks with Reese Witherspoon to executive produce it. Not too shabby, as they say. It's with great pleasure that I introduce my guest Sascha Rothchild. I hope I said that right. Sascha: Yes. It's a mouthful. Sascha Rothchild. I know my parents had fun with that one. Debbi: Well, very cool. I just want to thank you for being here, spending time with us first of all. I could ask you 10,000 questions based on your background, but we'll start with the book anyway. What prompted you to write a novel? Sascha: I had an idea late at night that started with a personal event. My husband is a Type 1 Diabetic, and he had a low blood sugar at night, which is quite dangerous. He has a continuous glucose monitor and it beeps very loudly to wake him up so he can eat sugar and he had a low blood sugar. There was the beeping. I woke up, I woke him up, he ate sugar, he's safe and healthy, and he fell right back to sleep. But I was wide awake and my writer brain started turning and asking, well, what if and what if? And I thought, well, what if he had died? Well, that would be horrible. But then I moved on to story and plot and I thought, what if the police thought I killed him because the spouse is always the first suspect? And then I thought, wait! What if I actually had murdered people in my past and gotten away with it. Now I'm being investigated for the one murder I didn't commit.
Emmy-nominated screenwriter Sascha Rothchild has written and produced for lauded television series like GLOW, The Bold Type, The Baby-Sitters Club, and The Carrie Diaries. Now she brings this signature sparkling wit and irreverent charm to her fiction debut, BLOOD SUGAR, a dark and utterly delicious noir thriller about Ruby Simon, an absurdly charming murderess accused of killing her husband—which is, ironically, the only murder she did not commit. Readers will be enraptured by this smart stunner of a novel and its loveable antiheroine, cementing Rothchild's status as one of the most dynamic, inventive storytellers writing today. Rothchild is currently show-running Netflix's series spin-off of the To All the Boys film franchise, XO, Kitty, and she is set to make her first foray into film with her screenplay, Who Invited Her, already optioned by DreamWorks with Reese Witherspoon attached to executive produce. #PodcastersForJustice Emmy-nominated screenwriter and author, Sascha Rothchild, spoke to me about her humble beginnings in LA, working with Marc Maron on GLOW, and how to write a "bingeable" thriller like her debut, "Blood Sugar." Sascha has written and produced lauded TV shows including GLOW (2017), The Bold Type (2017), and The Carrie Diaries (2013), and was named Variety's “10 TV Writers to Watch” 2015. Her long-form journalism, "How to Get Divorced by 30," was adapted into both an acclaimed memoir and screenplay for Universal Studios. Her debut novel is Blood Sugar, a psychological, noir thriller, named one of the most anticipated reads of 2022 by PopSugar, BookPage, and Crimereads. It's described as "...the story of the most likable murderess you will ever meet," and bestselling author Samantha Downing called it “...a fascinating story, wicked sharp writing, and an unforgettable narrator .... [that] needs to be on your 2022 reading list.” In this file Sascha Rothchild and I discussed: The feeling of powerlessness that comes with publishing your debut Why she needs to wake up and write something every day How to write a novel in the gaps What writers need to know about the frustration of the craft Taking Jane Austen to high tea And a lot more! Broadway star Claybourne Elder (Company, The Gilded Age) joins Robert Peterpaul to discuss the random act of kindness that changed his life, working as an actor with Stephen Sondheim, and using his platform to pay it forward. Claybourne Elder is an actor, singer and writer who was born and raised in Utah. He made his Broadway debut in 2011 with the musical Bonnie & Clyde. The following year, he earned some well-deserved acclaim in the play One Arm, receiving a Drama Desk Award nomination. Clay went on to appear in Sunday in the Park with George opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Torch Song and most recently Stephen Sondheim's revival of Company. Though he's most known today as one of Broadway's brightest stars, Clay also has a notable onscreen presence, making memorable appearances in series like The Carrie Diaries and more recently, HBO Max's hit show The Gilded Age. Candace Bushnell steps Behind The Rope. With all this talk from behind the scenes on “And Just Like That”, we could not think of anyone better to sit down and chat about it all with than the woman who started it all! Candace starts at the beginning - just how much life changed when her regular column for “The New York Observer” and best selling “Sex and the City" Anthology was turned into an international blockbuster show of epic magnitude for HBO. Candace talks about this transition, Darren Star, the birth of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda - which are you?, and the casting of Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon which has forever changed her, their and our lives for the better. Never has there been a show that integrated fashion and pop culture so well. Magnolia Cupcakes, Cosmos, and Manolo Blahniks have never looked the same since. Candace chats about her own fashion, Pat Field, the many men of “Sex” that came and went, and how her own love of New York City helped shape the Big Apple as the fifth lead character. We pay homage to many of Candace's other NY Times Best Selling Novels such as The Carrie Diaries and Lipstick Jungle (Brooke Shields, anyone?). Of course we chat “And Just Like That”, the lack of Samantha and what really went on backstage between SJP and Ms. Cattrall. Being a permanent fixture on the scene in NYC and The Hamptons, Candace is friends with many a RHONY. We chat about The Real Housewives of NYC - who does she know, would she ever join, what type of Housewife would she be, being told "Not Well Bitch" by Dorinda - kinda and finally, is there any sex in her city? It's sex and coronavirus in the city this week on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show when joining Halli at her table is her partner in politics, journalist and former White House corespondent, Matthew Cooper. And in our second half-hour, when we take a much-needed breather from politics and turn to sex, Halli catches up with SEX AND THE CITY author Candace Bushnell. We begin with Halli and Matt. As the amount of Americans dead from Covid-19 rises to above 85,000 and Trump's pandemic advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci testifies before Congress that the real number of deaths are probably much higher, Trump tries to turn the conversation from the Coronavirus Pandemic. Trump's favorite diversion? Conspiracy politics this time in the guise of Obamagate, Flynngate and Russiagate, his new Hillarygate. The stories are compounded when Trump's personal attorney, the Attorney General of the United States,William Barr, launches a scheme to exonerate Trump's once NSA chief, Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI. What is Trump up to? Halli has a theory. Does Matt concur? And that's just where we begin. In our second half-hour we turn from politics to sex. She's back. That's Candace Bushnell is back! BUSHNELL, the critically acclaimed, internationally bestselling author of SEX AND THE CITY, LIPSTICK JUNGLE, THE CARRIE DIARIES, and more gets real with Halli. SEX AND THE CITY, published in 1996, was the basis for the HBO hit series and two subsequent blockbuster movies, her characters the women we all wished we might be and whose lives we just might want to have. Now Bushnell, a middle-aged woman, brings us IS THERE STILL SEX IN THE CITY? in which she looks at love and life from a more seasoned view in yet another winner for the irrepressible Bushnell. By the way, a new TV series is in the works with Paramount TV with Bushnell as executive producer and writing the pilot. You go girl! Join us for some much needed fun. Sex and coronavirus in the city, Flynngate, Obamagate, Russiagate. Remember Election2020 and Democratic hopful Joe biden? Is Trump still being audited? Trump's tax returns saga makes it to the Supreme Court. Senator Richard Burr, now there's a story. And Florida, Florida, Florida…tune into The Halli Casser-Jayne Show the podcast always available at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com, on all your favorite apps, and on your Alexa device, too. The Total Tutor Neil Haley wiill interview Freema Agyeman and Jocko Sims of NBC's New Amsterdam. Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution's newest medical director, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking "no" for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital - the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the president of the United States under one roof - and return it to the glory that put it on the map. Freema Agyeman stars as Dr. Helen Sharpe on NBC's new drama "New Amsterdam." Agyeman is best known for major roles on "Doctor Who," "The Carrie Diaries" and the Netflix cult hit "Sense8." A London native, she has also starred on "Law & Order: UK" and BBC1's "Survivors" and "Little Dorrit." Agyeman's other television credits include the leading role in Sky's TV movie "Rubenesque," CBBC's "Old Jack's Boat," BBC2's "Torchwood," BBC1's "Survivors," ITV's "The Bill," BBC's "Silent Witness" and "Casualty," ITV1's "The Bill" and "Crossroads," and Sky One's "Mile High." Jocko Sims stars as Dr. Floyd Reynolds on the NBC drama "New Amsterdam."
Sascha Rothchild, writer/producer (GLOW, The Carrie Diaries, How To Get Divorced By 30) was running late to catch a train and was sure she could jump over the gap and through the precariously opening and closing train doors. Well, she couldn't. Listen to this harrowing and yet somehow humorous tale! Since it's Joe's last big episode as a podcast regular, we let him run the show, which starts with a check-in on Saturday Night Live, focusing on Kerry Washington's guest-hosting gig. We zigzag over to the many charms of The Carrie Diaries, then on to Sarah and Joe sharing some cheers and jeers (mostly the latter) for baseball broadcasting "legend," Tim McCarver. We stop off for a Downton Abbey-related Tiny Triumph, and then Joe takes his last chance (…until he comes back as a guest) at the Canon to make a case for the "Celestial Navigation" episode of The West Wing. After naming the week's Winner and Loser, we wind things up with an extremely special Game Time. Bye, Joe! Until this week's Minis, that is! TOPICS Lead Topic:

On this episode of Beginnings: Field Guide, we talk about casting with Katja Blichfeld. For beginning – and even seasoned – actors, the world of casting can seem incredibly random and opaque. To walk us through the ways in which casting contributes to the creative process of a project, we talked with Katja, who has cast a number of features and shows, including the The Carrie Diaries, as well as the entire run of 30 Rock.As well as the ins and outs of casting, Katja shares with us some stories from the early days of 30 Rock, we chat about the possibility of non-cynical networking, plus there's movie talk with the gang as we hit up Rocky, The Shining and Whore's Glory; and Mark and Andy discuss their humiliating commercial auditions in the wrap-up!Subscribe on iTunes and leave a review! Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Candace Bushnell, Journalist, Producer, Author, “Sex and the City”About Harvey's guest:Today's guest, Candace Bushnell, is a best-selling novelist, journalist, TV producer, and, most recently, the star of her own one-woman show. She's the celebrated author of “Sex and the City”, which formed the basis for the phenomenally successful TV show that aired for 6 seasons on HBO, followed by 2 hugely popular movies, and the re-boot TV series “And Just Like That”, currently in production for its third season. She has also written NINE other internationally bestselling books: “Four Blondes”, “Trading Up”, “Lipstick Jungle”, “One Fifth Avenue”, “The Carrie Diaries”, “Summer and the City”, “Killing Monica”, “Is There Still Sex in the City”, and “Rules for Being a Girl”. Her books, “Lipstick Jungle” and “The Carrie Diaries” were BOTH made into TV series for two seasons. Back in the 90s, our guest had her own reality show called “Sex, Lives and Video Clips”. Since then, she had an interview program on Sirius Satellite Radio called “Sex, Success and Sensibility”, which explored women's careers and relationships. She then had a 4-part web-series called “The BROAD ROOM”, which took a humorous look at women in the workplace. And THEN, she created her own BRILLIANT one-woman show called “True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex and the City,” where she takes the audience on a whirlwind tour of New York City, from Studio 54 to the Lipstick Jungle and beyond, sharing her remarkable stories of fashion, literature and sex while pouring cosmos in Manolos. This highly acclaimed show started out off-Broadway in New York and got rave reviews. She has taken the show overseas, to a number of countries, and as far away as South Africa, and she is currently on tour in the US, playing to sold out audiences and getting standing ovations. And in December, she's taking the show to Australia. She is the winner of the 2006 Matrix Award for books, and a recipient of the Albert Einstein Spirit of Achievement Award. She's a frequent guest on ALL of the major talk shows, and she's constantly in demand because of her intelligence, warmth, wit, fearlessness and immense likeability.
