He is a former Assistant Attorney General, White House Fellow and Florida Senator. As State Attorney, Aronberg leads a team of 115 prosecutors and 180 professional staff in five offices throughout Palm Beach County. Aronberg's leadership has led to high state rankings in conviction rates for both felonies and misdemeanors, a decrease in the number of juveniles direct filed into adult court, and a greatly improved working relationship with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. In 2016, he created a Sober Homes Task Force that has made more than 120 arrests for patient brokering and insurance fraud in the rehab industry, and has led to several new Florida laws and regulations that have become the model for other states. Aronberg's efforts also convinced Google to restrict advertisements and improve screening for addiction treatment.  The crackdown in rogue sober homes and corrupted drug treatment contributed to a 14% decrease in opioid-caused deaths in Palm Beach County in 2021, compared to the previous year. Dave Aronberg was born in Miami. He attended public schools before going on to graduate with honors from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. After graduation, he worked in the litigation department of a large South Florida law firm while also working closely with Insurance Commissioner Bill Nelson to investigate European insurance companies that refused to honor World War II-era policies sold to victims of the Holocaust. In 2000, Aronberg was selected to be one of 15 White House Fellows from across the country. In this nonpartisan position, he served in two presidential administrations as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury Department for international money laundering, including the laundering of terrorist assets. Dave Aronberg was elected to the State Senate in 2002 as its youngest member and served until 2010. Focusing on criminal justice and consumer protection issues, Aronberg passed major identity theft and port security legislation and served as the Chairman of the Military Affairs and Domestic Security Committee. He also served as Chair of the Everglades Restoration Committee, where he advocated for accelerating water storage projects and additional State and Federal support for Florida's “River of Grass.” In 2010, Aronberg returned to the Florida Attorney General's Office as a Special Prosecutor for Prescription Drug Trafficking. In his role as the Attorney General's “Drug Czar,” Aronberg led an anti-pill mill initiative that helped clean up the pain clinic industry and reduced the record number of people dying each day from oxycodone abuse.  His work to save lives from drug overdoses continues as a top priority to this day. Aronberg frequently appears on national television as a legal commentator. He has a passion to speak out on criminal justice issues, adding transparency to our legal system. Between the growing substance abuse and addiction epidemic, the explosion of fentanyl on the streets, and the move by half the country to legalize marijuana, there are a number of drug headlines in the news.   In this episode we speak with the US Drug Czar, Dr. Rahul Gupta, who runs the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. In our conversation, we discussed the administration proposal to reschedule marijuana as a Schedule III drug and what that means. Dr. Gupta provides insight into how new data and the shifting legal landscape led to the decision.  The interview also tackles the pressing issue of the overdose crisis, with a focus on the rise of fentanyl. Dr. Gupta compares Narcan to a fire extinguisher, and says every American should have a dose in their home.  He also shares his perspective on the federal government's strategy to combat this epidemic, including harm reduction efforts, law enforcement initiatives, and public health campaigns. This episode offers an in-depth look at the multifaceted approach needed to address one of the nation's most urgent public health challenges. — Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. Art Kleinschmidt, former Deputy Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, discusses the Fentanyl Crisis that is plaguing the United States. The former Deputy Drug Czar discusses how the cultural shift towards the perception of drugs and drug usage has only dramatically increased drug usage. Kleinschmidt discusses how progressive cities drug polices like “safe injection sites,” in an effort to destigmatize drugs has only exacerbated the problem by “promoting actual drug usage.” Saying, especially cities campaigns towards 'safe ways' to use drugs like fentanyl, commenting “there is really no safe way to do fentanyl.” Kleinschmidt also comments that China and the drug cartels are seemingly working alongside one another by, “China shipping chemicals” to drug cartels who then “assemble them” and bring them up through the open southern border. Commenting, "this is the first time in my lifetime," that "something dangerous and illegal” is "actually being promoted almost within this country."See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The marijuana reform movement is on fire. In the election last year, beneath all the Biden and Trump drama, every single state-level cannabis ballot initiative passed--from New Jersey to Mississippi to South Dakota. And now, New York state has legalized the green stuff. Federal legalization is gaining steam, the industry is exploding and everyone wants in on the weed movement. Marijuana is no longer a partisan or fringe issue--it’s popular, mainstream and key to the future of the American economy post-pandemic. And it’s got tremendous support from most independent Americans. 7 in 10 independents and moderates back legalization. So as 4/20 (the unofficial marijuana holiday) nears, Independent Americans is sparking up the cannabis conversation again--and continuing our focus on the state of affairs, the controversies, and the future of cannabis. And we’re also digging into broader drug policy changes happening in America from opioids to psychedelics to criminal justice reform.   And so The Godfather of Drugs returns to IA! Ethan Nadelmann (@EthanNadelmann) has been called America’s real Drug Czar. He joined us way back in Episode 12--and he’s back again to bring his unparalleled insight and experience. Ethan has been the mastermind behind the biggest changes to drug policy in US history. A Harvard PhD and the son of a rabbi, Ethan founded the trailblazing Drug Policy Alliance in 1994 and was a lead strategist behind 30 years of reform--including California’s historic 2014 Prop 47 referendum that reduced drug possession for personal use to a misdemeanor. This pivotal political victory proved to be the first domino to fall in a string of historic national changes and unleashed the wave of legalization of marijuana in states all across America we see now—with more to come soon. Easter and Passover are behind us, March Madness is over, the vaccine is hitting millions of arms daily, and things are warming up nationwide. But few issues are heating up more than cannabis. And few have a more fascinating past--or a more exciting future. Ethan returns to Independent Americans to chop it up with our host, Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) to break it all down. Rieckhoff is a longtime advocate for drug reform, who has appeared in the media often on the subject, written about it extensively, testified before Congress about the impacts of cannabis for veterans, and spearheaded the landmark VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act of 2018. America is deeply divided. But not about marijuna anymore. And Independent Americans is packing a bowl of light to contrast all the heat of other political pods. Every show is pre-rolled with the Righteous Media 5 I’s: independence, integrity, information, inspiration and impact--to keep you empowered. Mr. Carroll previously served as the Acting Director and Deputy Director of ONDCP from February 2018 to January 2019. His strategic vision for the organization is best summarized in two words: “Be Relentless.” It's the advice President Trump gave Director Carroll when he nominated him to lead ONDCP, and the North Star that drives his vision in support of the organization's mission to stop the flow of illegal drugs in the United States and connect those suffering from substance use disorder with the tools they need to be put on the path to recovery. ;new advadsCfpAd( 35245 ); Nathaniel Woods & Death Penalty Despite evidence and knowing that Nathaniel Woods did not shoot 3 Birmingham cops serving an arrest warrant on an apartment Woods shared with a roommate, the state of Alabama murdered Woods after the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) failed to stop the execution. The United States has yet to unite with modern nations who have abolished the death penalty and continues to use capital punishment putting it into a coalition of nations like China, Saudia Arabia, Iran, North Korea to name a few. Kerry Spencer was Woods's roommate in 2004 and admitting to being the person who fatally shot Carlos Owen, Harley Chisolm, and Charles Bennett in 2004. The state of Alabama still charged Woods with the capital offense of killing cops in the USA and argued that Woods "conspired" with Spencer to kill the officers. In the real world and using the dictionary definition of "conspire", it seems it would have been impossible two people to conspire to kill cops that they did not know were coming to serve a warrant. In this case, there was only one person firing the gun that killed the three cops. conspire intransitive verb -·spired′, -·spir′ing to plan and act together secretly, esp. in order to commit a crime to combine or work together for any purpose or toward any effect: events conspired to ruin him Biden Vs Bernie On Death Penalty The US is obviously in political season where a new president will be elected or one Donald J. Trump may prevail and avoid be labeled a one-term POTUS. It seems likely that the person Trump will face will be either Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden. With healthcare being the top issue most citizens say concerns them the most, the death penalty is a top issue for many or at least makes their top ten issues that would they like to see some transformative change. Donald J. Trump is a staunch supporter of the death penalty and he and Biden have a lot of common ground on the issue. Trump wants to expand the death penalty to cover people convicted of selling drugs. Joe Biden successfully pushed for the creation of a "Drug Czar" to help coordinate agencies who fight the so-called War on Drugs and Biden did expand the death penalty in the Biden Crime Bill. Mississippi Prison Update Sanders's tweeted out public support and solidarity with activists and prisoners concerning the rash of murders and deplorable inhumane conditions in the Mississippi prison slavery system. Sanders has always been opposed to capital punishment and believes the United States should abolish the Death Penalty. Our system of mass incarceration is racist and must end. In Mississippi prisons there have been 24 deaths in 67 days, overcrowding, medical neglect and inhumane conditions. I stand with the incarcerated, their families and the MS Prison Reform Coalition. #MSPrisonReformNow — Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) March 7, 2020 Join Scotty, Tag, Kevin and Sophia for a panel discussion on the death penalty and the inhumanity of the prison slavery system in the United States. The 13th Amendment of the US Constitution did not end slavery when it carved out the exception clause that led directly to Jim Crow laws across the country to target  African-American and other non-white populations. Repeal & Replace The 13th Amendment! New Abolitionists Radio is an award-winning podcast that started in 2012 to bring awareness to legalized slavery and human trafficking in the United States preserved by the 13th Amendment of the US Constitution. This issue is often inadequately referred to as "mass incarceration". Legalized slavery through prisons, jails and detention facilities and the mistreatment of those incarcerated in them constitute severe Human Rights violations per The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, especially its prohibition on all forms of slavery. “No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their...

This is Angry Americans on drugs. Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) explores the roller coaster history of the drug reform movement and the rapidly-changing landscape of drug policy with the visionary leader Rolling Stone describes as “the driving force for the legalization of marijuana in America.” As the Presidential candidates and the national political landscape on drugs shift by the day, Ethan Nadelmann (@EthanNadelmann) has been called America’s real Drug Czar. He is the mastermind behind the biggest changes to drug policy in US history. A Harvard PhD and the son of a rabbi, Ethan founded the groundbreaking Drug Policy Alliance (‪@DrugPolicyOrg) in 1994 and was a lead architect behind 30 years of reform to include California’s historic Prop 47 referendum—which in 2014 reduced drug possession for personal use to a misdemeanor. This defining political victory proved to be the first domino to fall in a string of historic national legal changes and unleashed a wave of legalization of marijuana in 10 states across America—with inevitably more to come. Ethan has advised Presidents and Presidential candidates—and shares the fascinating inside story of building the early days of the drug reform movement, and of building powerful (and unlikely) political coalitions uniting conservative icon William F Buckley and liberal icon George Soros. With New Jersey, New York and others debating legalization right now, this conversation couldn’t be more timely. As with every episode of Angry Americans, it delivers the 4 I’s: integrity, information, impact and inspiration. Rieckhoff pushes, probes and challenges. He breaks down the latest on a potential war with Iran, the shocking resignation of Acting Secretary of Defense Shanahan and the historic NBA Finals ending. And Rieckhoff continues to be among those national leaders leading the charge with his fellow First Responders to pass the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund extension in Washington. It’s the latest episode of the groundbreaking political and social podcast that is sparking conversation nationwide and has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, the Associated Press and Variety. Micheal Hilton, with over 10 years of sobriety, discusses his recovery portfolio.  Micheal Hilton is a leader in the recovery community and does personal coaching with his company Breakthrough Coaching.   60 minutes recently did a segment on addiction.  Micheal Botticelli, the "Drug Czar” is someone who from first hand experience knows the intricacies of alcoholism and addiction. Here are some key points of what I took from this segment. 40 years and a trillion dollars, nation has little to show of the war on drugs. 21 million americans are addicted to drugs and alcohol and nearly 1/2 of federal incarcerations are in for drug crimes. “can’t arrest addiction out of people.” “We have learned that addiction is a brain disease.” “ We can’t expect cancers patients to just stop having cancer.” Addicts should be patients and not prisoners. Michael Botticelli has created a high school for teens in recovery in Massachusetts. Convicts can choose rehab over jail and this actually reduces crime. in 1998 crashed his car and woke up hand cuffed to a gurney. Alcohol free for 27 years.
