Impressively researched and committed to creating a dazzling, expressionistic visual style to evoke the sensations of exploring the uncharted corners of the world wide web, the film is both an ode to the young, brilliant minds at the forefrunt of cyberspace and an anthropological time capsule of a subcutlure that would aesthetically inform the way the burgeoning landscape of the internet and its denizens were depicted on film throughout the rest of the decade and beyond. We discuss the film's impressive layers of authenticity, as elicited by screenwriter Rafael Moreu alongside real-life hacker consultants (including then-teenager Nicholas Jarecki, who would later become a filmmaker himself). Then, we discuss Hollywood's attempts to visualize the unconquered, uncharted landscape of the fledgling internet, and how the film paints its protagonists as intrepid trailblazers in the same spirit as classic character motifs from the American western. Finally, we discuss the noteworthy landmark design of the film, from its production and sets, to its immaculate fashion, and its pitch-perfect, multi-volume soundtracks of contemporary electronic music.Brazil isn't on Twitter anymore, so follow Gus Lanzetta on Bluesky.Check out Gus's latest podcast adventure The Boku Diaries.....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.

Trailers, TV Cues & Sound Design: The Similarities and Differences Explained Randon Purcell doesn't need TAXI anymore! Here's why... "Hey Michael! I hope you and the family are all well! Everything here is madness, but going well enough. My job at [name withheld] is keeping me plenty busy, and I'm even doing some side scoring gigs on some movies with my boss, so that's fun too. I just got signed on to do the score for a new animated show as well, later this year, so 2022 should be busy as ever. Anyway, I just wanted to touch base and see how things are going. I don't get a chance to hop on the TAXI forums much these days, but I love it when I can give back a little to the TAXI community. After all, I wouldn't be a full-time musician without you guys! Hope all is well and that The TAXI Road Rally will be in-person again this year! Take care, Randon" Yep, that's why Randon doesn't need TAXI any more...he's too busy making music for his full-time income! Why is he so busy? "I wouldn't be a full time musician without you guys!" It was the sentence prior to that, that prompted me to ask Randon to join us for this week's TAXI TV episode. "I love it when I can give back a little to the TAXI community." Without hesitation, I asked Randon to join me to explain the similarities and differences between creating music for Film Trailers and TV Promos, TV Shows, and Sound Design...for that matter, can you really explain exactly what sound design is, and how it's done? I'm not so sure I could, but I'd bet a pretty penny that Randon can! And ask him, I will! Randon is a very smart, pragmatic, hard-working person. His climb up the ladder of success took a few years and a lot of work. I think he might be able to shave some time from your climb by sharing what he's learned along the way. - If you're already creating Instrumental Cues, what do you need to know to create Film Trailer and TV Promo music? - Is sound design more like music or sound effects, or a combination of both? - How do you get paid for creating a whoosh, a braaam, or a distorted, growly tension drone? - Which synth patches work for what? - How are the arrangements similar or different? - How is scoring a TV show different than creating Cues that could be used in an episode of the very same show? - How much income can you earn from each one of these disciplines?

Okay so this episode...is a weird one. See the list below for why! 1. The audio is super weird, we're quieter than usual, there's a bit of an echo and there's some white background noise for some reason. None of this showed up in the test recordings. 2. We confused the Kree from Marvel will the Krell from the book we're reading at the minute...so sorry in advance for all that. 3. We were super tired. Other than that, enjoy the episode and don't forget to let us know which trailers so far in 2019 have you pumped! Phil Lambert was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. After completing his Music Degree, Phil relocated to Melbourne, Australia where he continued his musical career as a composer, teacher and performer and established his own company Cloudbreak Music®. Phil has now composed for Feature Films, Film Trailers, Short Films, Media Projects and TVCs, performed live at various venues, radio stations and an appearance on T.V as well as receiving radio play for his compositions along with interviews throughout Australia and New Zealand. He has also built a successful private woodwind teaching business and created the internationally recognised product Classical Fingers®. As a music educator, Phil has been teaching Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute for 18 years and now teaches privately from his studio in Kensington, Melbourne. Phil believes that private tuition is important as it not only establishes a bond between teacher and student, but it allows him to personally focus solely on each student's needs at the particular level they are at; “Every student is different so every lesson needs to be tailored to suit their ability and potential.” During Phil's years of teaching woodwind he encountered numerous players, both beginners and advanced, that naturally played the clarinet by lifting their fingers too high so he started experimenting with the idea of using a device to help reduce this movement. In 2011 Phil started developing a prototype that his students could use on a more regular basis away from the lesson and in 2014 the evolution of Classical Finegrs was finally realised. Since its release, Classical Fingers has now been sold to 28 countries including to: Teachers, Students, Stores, Universities, High Schools and Distributors. It has also won various Design Awards and has been exhibited in Australia, Korea, Frankfurt and USA. Phil is currently devloping Classical Fingers for the Flute.
