Chris and Tyler monkey around while talking about three films with primates that aren't actually monkeys. I actually have no idea what a monkey is at this point. The films are: Bed Time for Bonzo, Every Which Way But Loose and Ed.
We discuss Clint Eastwood, the actor, in three atypical films where he was not in complete control: PAINT YOUR WAGON, EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE, and THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT. “You're in acting class and you're studying Chekov or ‘Waiting for Godot' -- and then you end up doing 80s tits-and-a**… You caught on pretty quick what it was about and where the power lay.” -- Actress Heather ThomasWhat was it like to be an 80s poster icon and sex symbol? Susan and Sharon welcome The Fall Guy star and “80s Poster Lady” Heather Thomas. She's an actor, writer and activist -- but may be best known for her “Pink Bikini” poster, one of the best-selling pin-up posters of all time. Heather Thomas had leading roles in television shows like BJ and the Bear, The Love Boat and TJ Hooker -- as well as the movie Zapped! with Scott Baio, Willie Aames and Felice Schachter. But her most famous role was playing stuntwoman Jody Banks on the hit 80s television series The Fall Guy. Running for five seasons on ABC, The Fall Guy spawned board games, posters, a video game -- and just last year, a major feature film starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt -- and Heather Thomas! Since her days as a TV star and pin-up queen, Heather Thomas has gone on to an extraordinary career as a novelist, political activist, organizer and fund-raiser. NOTE: This episode was recorded Dec. 2024, before the LA Fires. Our thoughts are with Heather and her family, and all those impacted by the fires. Stay safe. Be well. THE CONVERSATIONWORKING WITH MONKEYS: Clyde, the orangutan from Every Which Way But Loose, was her co-star once: “He thought it was funny to keep grabbing my boob. I thought he was gonna rip it off!” And a stint on BJ and the Bear led to producer Glen Larsen tapping her for the co-starring role in The Fall Guy. WORKING WITH TV PRODUCERS: “All of them are crazy. You're not gonna find any normal ones, not in those days. Everyone was nuts. And they still are.”"Smile more": Early on, the ABC network executives were afraid that Heather Thomas wasn't likable. So they put her in a bikini. “I guess that made up for me not smiling enough.” STUNT WORK: “Lee Majors almost broke my nose once.” "I was good on rollerskates!"In preparation for a Fall Guy episode, Heather trained with the Los Angeles Thunderbirds roller-derby team: “They showed me how to ‘break my back' on the rail -- it was really fun!”Ted Lange -- Isaac, the bartender on The Love Boat -- was one of Heather's favorite directors on the Fall Guy.A GOOD DIRECTOR: For Heather, it was someone who brought her into the filmmaking process. For Lee Majors -- it was anyone who got him home by 5:00pm! THE POSTER: Once the show was a hit, a poster was the next big step: “It outsold Farrah Fawcett. I bought a house. I was thrilled.”DIS-LIKENESS: Heather's image has been hi-jacked and used for everything from lighters, to puzzles, to notebook covers -- to a pillow!ON HAVING A FAMOUS BODY: “My body was my living. That's how I saw it. So I had to feed it, exercise it -- I couldn't have an ounce of cellulite. It was part of the gig. But I didn't care, I was grateful. I was making more money than I ever had in my life. I was a kid.”ZAPPED! -- Teen sex comedy -- or sexual harassment? “They tried to get me topless, but my contract said uh-uh! So, they used a body double. There's a big disclaimer at the end of the movie saying that it's not my tits.”Activism: “Ever since they said, ‘You can't climb the tree, the boys can' -- I was a feminist.”So join Susan and Sharon -- and Heather -- as they talk fly-fishing, Star Wars, David Letterman,Teen Beat, Shaun Cassidy & Parker Stevenson, “Gabor-lore”, Cliff Robertson's toupeé, organizing your phone by decade, not complying in advance -- and canoeing with Henry Winkler!AUDIO-OGRAPHYFind Heather Thomas on Twitter at Twitter.com/HeatherThomasAF And find Heather Thomas on BlueSky at HeatherThomasAF.bsky.social Watch Heather Thomas in The Fall Guy on Peacock, Amazon Prime or Flixfling!Check DontGetPurged.org to make sure your name has not been purged from voter rolls!Find out more about CREW at CitizensForEthics.orgVITAL READINGGet Handbook for A Post-Roe America by Robin Marty at Bookshop.org.Check out Men In Dark Times by Hannah Ahrendt at Bookshop.org.Read Democracy Awakening by Heather Cox Richardson at Bookshop.org.You can also follow Richardson's substack.SUPPORT FOR THE LA FIRESOnline at DisasterAssistance.gov On the FEMA App for mobile devices or Call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362Calls are accepted every day from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. PST.More resources at Eaton Canyon Community Relief.Google List of LA County Resources. He currently has two projects making their way to the stage: "Josephine" (The Josephine Baker Story) and "Pure Country" (The Musical).
Clint Eastwood, a biker and an orangutan walk into a honky-tonk bar. Maybe that sounds like a joke, but it's the absurd plot of this week's film: Every Which Way But Loose. Was this a comedy or an action movie? Any which genre you pick, we liked it! Like a good jukebox, this movie has a little of everything: bikers, bare-knuckle boxing, country music and a cheatin' woman. Listen along as we croon about our favorite parts and the history of this odd little film that also happened to rake in a lot of cash.
What do you do when your player is unhappy with the direction of their class and wants to change over into a new class mid-campaign, but with the same character? In this episode, Tony, Chris, and Dave answer a listener question about their player that wants to change their character's class from Paladin to Sorcerer at 5th level. We delve into not just the narrative components of a change like this, but also the mechanical effects that such a change would inevitably bring. Along the way, we offer tips, tricks, and questions you should ask yourself if you're planning on something like this in your own games.3:45 First questions: will this completely break immersion and is this an offer you're ready to make for all the players? 4:30 DM Chris fondly remembers Clyde from Every Which Way But Loose and discusses the “Buyer's Remorse” of character choices and how to work with it.7:00 The benefit of starting at lower levels and the character building that comes with it. How a 5th level character might feel a little more “pregen”, as DM Tony refers to it.8:45 The benefits of One-shots, Session Zeroes, and Playtests to understand better the choices you're making. What if Aragorn never leaves Bree?12:30 DM Tony's workaround for swapping power sets in 4th edition.13:14 Learning the rules of the class as you level… the kid who hates the elite sports car they just got.16:30 How we have and would narratively approach changes like this in our own games.18:00 How do you handle the mechanical changes that would come with such a change?28:50 DM Tony recounts how DM Thorin had narratively and mechanically done this very thing in a 4th edition game… the return of Cassidus, the wizard made of a pile of undead bugs!30:35 “It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to”.… the time needed to evolve the character and how to balance realism and fantasy.34:05 Final Thoughts

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!! This week we are saying goodbye to our Trucker Movies theme with the fun and entertaining Every Which Way But Loose (1978)This was exactly the kind of film I was looking for when picking this theme. The humor was sometimes not as funny as they wanted it to be, but it was still 10 times funnier than my last episode, Convoy (1978). Having Clint Eastwood as the lead and Clyde the orangutan as his co-star, how could you go wrong in this fist fighting adventure romp? I gave this film a 7.5/10 for not trying to be more than a fun movie and for providing lots of entertainment and great characters. For my full written review feel free to follow my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/film_haven_reviews/
T-Max's pick for Road Trip September and it's a doozy. Clint Eastwood with a Orangutan. It's Every Which Way But Loose. Will this trip be a bumpy ride? Tune in and find out!!!

Today on Bloodhaus, it's Josh's favorite movie of all time: Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby. From wiki: “Rosemary's Baby is a 1968 American psychological horror film written and directed by Roman Polanski, based on Ira Levin's 1967 novel of the same name. The film stars Mia Farrow as a young (soon pregnant) wife living in Manhattan who comes to suspect that her elderly neighbors are members of a Satanic cult and are grooming her in order to use her baby for their rituals. The film's supporting cast includes John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon, Sidney Blackmer, Maurice Evans, Ralph Bellamy, Patsy Kelly, Angela Dorian, and, in his feature film debut, Charles Grodin. “ But first: which animal is the most punk? Also, Drusilla saw Asteroid City and they discuss Wes Anderson, who created the millennial aesthetic. (The infamous pickle cut comes up, too.) Plus! We are so, so excited about Vidiots! (https://vidiotsfoundation.org/) Josh was at Portland Horror Fest and it won an award! He also saw a feature called T Blockers by a trans teen girl and was blown away. He also watched 1981's Dark Night of the Scarecrow and it really scared him. We discuss some of the best bareknuckle boxing movies from The Long Seventies, in particular Charles Bronson's Hard Times and Clint Eastwood's Every Which Way But Loose.
Put up your dukes! We're turning EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE this episode to talk about James Fargo's 1978 bare-knuckle boxing hangout road trip orangutan movie, which we both like many parts of while still somehow not really enjoying the film. There's also plenty of San Fernando Valley history, Nazi biker discussion (critical), and Jake tells a story about a moviegoer so rude she sent him spiraling into despair. Give it a listen! Topics include: SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT, the American Humane Association, allegations of animal mistreatment on the set of this film (sort of), Las Vegas ape act impresario Bobby Berosini, the weirdness of animal rights people who aren't also human rights people, PETA's whole deal, a largely apocryphal history of the Palomino Club, more Locke Talk, movies with low stakes, The Gene LeBell Story, Beverly D'Angelo, and, for no particular reason, here's a list of bail funds. Clint Eastwood, Jr. was born into wealth in San Francisco, complete with in-ground pool and country club membership. Despite being drafted into the Korean war, never saw a lick of combat, serving as lifeguard at Fort Ord for his entire stint in the military, all very much belieing his later "tough guy" image. Lambasted as a terrible actor by Hollywood filmmakers and acting coaches alike, he nevertheless managed to land a few walk on roles in classic 50s sci fi monster flicks and television westerns, based entirely on his looks. But by another huge stroke of luck, his role on TV's Rawhide got him a role in an Italian western when his costar turned it down...and that film and its sequel launched an entire genre. A trio of films with Sergio Leone and a 5 film run as maverick cop Dirty Harry spanned two full decades, making this very lucky fellow an actor, director and producer...and moreover, an American icon. Giving right wing sacred cow Ronald Reagan one of his most trademarkable catchphrases and delivering the most unintentionally amusing bits of impromptu political theater ever recorded with his last minute "empty chair debate" at the 2012 RNC, Clint also delivered popular favorites like Every Which Way But Loose, Escape from Alcatraz, Kelly's Heroes, The Gauntlet and The Unforgiven...plenty of juicy backstory and cinema for us to dig into (and we do, in our own inimitable manner!) Join us as we alternately celebrate and have some well deserved laughs at the expense of the oft problematic but ever fascinating career of the inimitable Clint Eastwood, only here at Weird Scenes! Duncan and Lex have known each other for years, and when it comes to movie taste, they think they know each other pretty well. Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time puts them to the test. Each episode one picks a film that the other hasn't seen in the hopes of blowing their mind. It's time for Lex's first pick and he drops The Gauntlet on Duncan. Directed by (and starring) Clint Eastwood, this is oft-overlooked hunk of action is thin on story and heavy on vibe. Prelude to the absurd Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can franchise (yep, the orangutan movies), this so-'70s cop-on-a-mission story also stars longtime lover and collaborator Sondra Locke. The chemistry crackles, but is it enough to blow Duncan's mind? And will Lex's rep make it through the gauntlet?Buckle up and armor up the bus 'cause bullets will fly. Hosted on Acast. Andrew and Jerry are back from vacation... but did they really relax? Can someone really "unplug" from the real world in 2022, and just what is "quiet quitting"? Andrew does a shout out to some old policy friends, and Producer Charlie joins for a few minutes. Then, in the Ripped from the Headlines segement, Andrew and Jerry talk about President Biden's announcement regarding student loan forgiveness and what it really means from a policy standpoint. Which is the bigger question... the legality of the announcement, the lack of focus on the real problem with student loans, or how it makes the problems worse? They also relate this to the issue of medical debt (and other forms of debt).Bound up in this is a debate over the future of the Republic - can it be saved, or has it already been lost, and just what this all means for the mid-term elections. What should Republicans be focusing on going into 2022 and 2024, and how should they strategize? Finally, some fun talk about new shows - Jerry revisits his appraisal of whether the original Top Gun holds up, they talk about the Clint Eastwood comedy, "Every Which Way But Loose", and offer some thoughts on the new Game of Thrones series, "House of the Dragon".
Regardless of what you think, John Waters did not direct this movie, much to Anthony's surprise. And as crazy as this movie may be to watch, Every Which Way But Loose apparently struck a chord at the box office, because damn did it make some bank! Enjoy Mike and Anthony's chance to discuss in one episode: strange pet relationships, brawling for cash, shotgun toting grannies, biker gangs from another world, and Beverly D'Angelo slumming at a vegetable stand literally waiting for anyone to pick her up. Good times are to be had by all in this one. Get bonus content on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Or: "Ape & Dumber" Hosts Brandon and Charlie explore that most unexpected of hits, the 1978 Clint Eastwood buddy boxing movie co-starring an ape, Every Which Way But Loose. This movie has it all: bare-knuckle boxing, slapstick hijinks, a bumbling biker gang, fishin, a beer-drinkin' ape. All the stuff you'd expect in one of the highest grossing films of 1978.

We had a great conversation with actor Gabriel Jarret on The Chris & Sandy Show. We talked about so many things on this episode from acting, he told some really amazing stories especially about the sacrifices it takes to make it as an actor plus a whole lot more!Actor Gabriel Jarret recently co-starred as an auto repair shop owner and ambulance dispatcher, opposite Amy Smart, Thora Birch and Anne Heche, in writer/director Lindsay Gossling's true tornado survival Quiver feature, 13 Minutes. He plays a man of the cloth opposite Tom Malloy, Briana Evigan, Jesse Kove and Joyce DeWitt the romantic the comedy Ask Me to Dance, and he's Heckle, a 13th Century plague sanitizer in Bring On the Dancing Horses, a limited series that stars Kate Bosworth. In the latter, all of his dialogue is in American sign language. A native of Westlake Village, California who grew up in Malibu, Gabe is the son of screenwriter Jeremy Joe Kronsberg who wrote Clint Eastwood's celebrated comedy Every Which Way But Loose. At 11, Gabe's first show business opportunity came when he picked up a copy of Daily Variety and spotted a talent audition ad. Taking the bus from Malibu to Hollywood, he was selected to play one of the background kids on Walt Disney's Mousercise, an exercise show. Graduating from high school, Gabe was accepted at UCLA but decided to pursue acting full time. He made his scripted television debut on Goodnight, Beantown, and appeared opposite Joe Pantoliano in the play Vampire Guts. Then his big break came when he won the lead opposite Val Kilmer in the comedy Real Genius, in which he played a fourteen-year-old whiz kid who goes to college. He has been a working actor ever since. His feature credits include The Karate Kid Part III, Apollo 13, The American President, Las Days, Poseidon (as the helmsman), Frost/Nixon, Swing State and Limbo. His television credits include 21 Jump Street, The Bronx Zoo, Freddy's Nightmares, L.A. Law, Party of Five, The West Wing, The Game and Mystic Cosmic Patrol. When Gabe isn't acting, he's an American sign language interpreter who works in many venues, including press conferences, cruise lines, theme parks and medical conventions.

This month's guest didn't set out to write some of country music's most romantic ballads. But then...Clint Eastwood called. There is no doubt Steve Dorff is talented beyond measure. But how he found country music - or rather, how country music found him- is a tale all to itself. Sit back and enjoy the incredible story of an incredible artist: composer, arranger, director, lyricist...he can-and has- done it all. And that's not even counting the theme song to "Growing Pains." S3 E10 HORNY PINK APE. Buddy Van Horn was a legendary stuntman (doubled for Eastwood numerous times) and stunt coordinator (Million Dollar Baby, baby!) but he also directed what may be the least essential of films in Eastwood's 65 year filmography. This week we coincidentally get two of those films, 1980's ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN and 1989's PINK CADILLAC. Any Which Way You Can brings the whole gang back from Every Which Way But Loose and sets them on another comedic adventure not at all dissimilar to the first one except maybe with even less on its mind. Clyde is in it so you know what's what. Enjoy as Jack, who slept through 90% of this movie, clearly thinks Ken is making up the plot up as they go along. But, nope, there is some weird stuff in this thing. Also there is a lot of camera punching. We love Clint punching the camera. Where is THAT supercut, YouTube? Then marvel at the sizzling hot synopsis of the never-made third Which Way film, Either Which Way You Go, which would have also been directed by Van Horn in '85 had Ruth Gordon not sadly passed away. Pink Cadillac, on the other hand, is not dissimilar to podcast not-fave The Gauntlet, right down to the Nevada setting. A comedy-adventure about a mismatched couple with a group of bad guys trying to get them. But Caddy has Bernadette Peters instead of Sondra Locke. There is that. Who doesn't like Bernadette Peters? Simply adorable and an American icon! Is that enough to keep things afloat? What is the signature Buddy Van Horn shot, anyway? Find out in this episode! Ken and Jack are joined by NO ONE this episode because we couldn't find any guests who wanted to sit through these two cinematic sensations. S3 E4 JOHN MALKOVICH VERSUS THE APE. In the Line of Fire (1993) was Clint's victory lap film following Unforgiven. Directed by Wolfgang Peterson, this is one of two films Clint has been in since 1990 he did not direct. If you know the other film you win a prize (the prize is watching Amy Adams!). Clint plays a confident - yet haunted - secret service agent who engages in a cat & mouse game with a would-be presidential killer played by John Malkovich, who is by turns sadistic, over the top and beguiling. Running afoul of bureaucrats, Clint must impose his will on a broken system filled with yes-men who value good press over real crime fighting in order to find this maniac... wait a dang second, is this Dirty Harry? It sounds like Dirty Harry. Anyway, Renee Russo plays a female agent 24 years years Eastwood's junior so you know there won't be any romance there because that is a sizeable age difference (wink-wink). Then we get to one of the strangest and most enduring films Eastwood ever made, 1978's Every Which Way But Loose. It's the one with the orangutan! And bikers! And Sondra Locke. You betcha, Tim Tom Jim James Fargo (1976's The Enforcer) returns to direct another Eastwood epic. This movie made a lot of money and was the first Eastwood film Ken ever saw in theaters back when he was mumble-mumble years old! He liked it then but... HISTORY FACTS, he was a dumb kid with a runny nose so let's wait and see what OLD Ken, Jack and superstar podcast guest Thomas think. EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE: 00:04:21IN THE LINE OF FIRE: 00:42:05

451 - Milton L. Brown This interview with songwriter Milton L. Brown was recorded at the office of Bama Boy Productions in Mobile, Alabama. It was done face to face. Originally intended for the radio, it's now available on the podcast. What a prolific songwriter he is. His songs have been recorded by everyone from Smokey Robinson, Ronnie Milsap, Tom Jones, Kenny Rogers and more. His songs have been featured in major motion pictures like Clint Eastwood's films "Every Which Way But Loose" and "Barroom Buddies." Milton L. Brown also has a Jimmy Buffett connection. Torn on deciding on a film to discuss, Cody and his guest Chris Borg take a gamble on a joint viewing and subsequent reappraisal of Clint Eastwood's 1978 orangutang-starring, country music-filled comedy Every Which Way But Loose. Of course, given that this is the Scrawls on Cinema podcast, the two meander down some other conversational pathways as well; topics include The Godfather, Do the Right Thing, and the overwhelming oeuvre of Howard Hawks.

PART ONE Scott and Paul let you in on how you can score your own autographed copy of Steve Dorff's new memoir, I Wrote That One, Too. PART TWO - 02:45 mark Mother's Day is coming up soon! Paul counts down 5 of his favorite songs about moms before Scott lists 5 of his favorite songwriters who are also mothers. PART THREE - 12:11 mark Scott and Paul head over to Steve Dorff's house to get the inside scoop on why he sees color when he hears music; the reason that knowing how to write a great song is only half of songwriting success; how he accidentally wound up playing piano on a classic soul record; what he did to make Dusty Springfield throw a chair at him; how he bluffed his way into film scoring; the time he wrote one of the most iconic TV show theme songs of all time in just 15 minutes; and why he hears Boys II Men in his head when George Strait sings one of his biggest hits. ABOUT STEVE DORFF Steve’s Dorff’s songs have been recorded by hundreds of artists, earning him nominations for six Emmy awards and three Grammys. His first major success came with the soundtrack for the Clint Eastwood film Every Which Way But Loose, which yielded three #1 singles, including the title song. Similarly successful soundtrack albums would follow, such as: Bronco Billy, which earned him #1 hits with “Cowboys and Clowns” for Ronnie Milsap and “Bar Room Buddies,” a duet for Eastwood and Merle Haggard; Any Which Way You Can, which spawned a Top 10 hit of the same title for Glen Campbell; and Pure Country, which earned George Strait two #1 hits, “I Cross My Heart” and “Heartland.” In total, Dorff has written nine #1 country hits from motion pictures, more than any other songwriter in history. In addition to his soundtrack success, Dorff has written #1 hits including “I Just Fall in Love Again” for Anne Murray, “Through the Years” for Kenny Rogers, “Don’t Underestimate My Love For You” for Lee Greenwood, “Hypnotize the Moon” for Clay Walker, and “The Man in Love with You” for George Strait. Other artists who’ve recorded his songs include Barbra Streisand, The Carpenters, Celine Dion, Cher, Dolly Parton, Dusty Springfield, Garth Brooks, George Jones, Gladys Knight, Jackie Wilson, Kenny Loggins, Randy Travis, Ray Charles, Reba McEntire, Roy Rogers, Ringo Starr, Smokey Robinson, Whitney Houston, and Willie Nelson. In addition to his songwriting, Dorff has scored countless films and TV shows, including Spenser: For Hire, Murphy Brown, The Singing Bee, Just the 10 of Us, Murder She Wrote, Major Dad, Reba, and Growing Pains, for which he composed the hit theme song “As Long as We Got Each Other.” In 2017 he published his memoir, I Wrote That One, Too: A Life in Songwriting from Willie to Whitney, and he’s a 2018 inductee into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
