Recently went on William Ramsey Investigates to discuss Andrew Jarecki's documentaries "Capturing the Friedmans" and "The Jinx". At times the discussion goes off into some conspiratorial directions! However, there is some good information about Jarecki, his father's ties to Epstein. It may explain why he decided to begin his career as a documentarian, making an apologist flick for a pedophile and his son that abused 17 children (according to Jesse Friedman) in Great Neck, NY in the 1980's. For more information on the case against Arnold and Jesse Friedman - "Capturing the Friedman - What Was Left Out" - https://youtu.be/qjYWOZgMbHQ?si=sFKgP2NuYOU_gfAQRoss Cheit "The Witch-Hunt Narrative" - https://a.co/d/3tpInhFThank you, Patrons!Theresa Parrino, Sanny O'Brien, DSamlam, Janet Gardner, Suzanne Kniffin, Iriana Campbell, Jennifer Klearman, Patricia Linz, Nancy, Judy Brown, Pat Brooks, Linda Lazzarro, Susan Hicks, Jeff Meadors, Donna, Faith Peeples, Jennifer Powell, Cindy G Yurts, Kay Bee, Dana Natale, Debra Couture, Cindy Poschesci, Riverdale Pilates, Luanne Miller, Rachbaum, Kevin Crecy, Renee Chavez, Angela Smith, Melba Pourteau, Julia K Thomas, JS, Stephanie Roach, Stark Stuff, Robyn Ray, K, Kayce Taylor, Yvette Jockin, Karen Cote, Tammie Sheppherd, JenTile, LadyLex, Shari Davis, AussieDood, Katrina Hetherington, Susan Swan, Dean, GiGi 5, Susan, Manjit Ender, Mentour Mentor's Mentee, Kee Sardi, Dana Natale, Marie Patrignani, Bewildered Beauty, MotherofHens, Pepper, Joan, Pat Dell, Blythe, Laura, Plai Braik, Lorraine R, Sandra Guse Van Zealand, Isa, Krissy G, Michelle B, TB , Maria, Erin Faesen, Regan Johnson, AJ Foster, Hugh Ashman, Melissa V, Heyy Manny, Victoria Gray Bross, Toni Woodland, Danbrit, Evan Scott, Holly from Dallas, Kenny Haines, Maureen P and Toni Natalie.Get access to exclusive content & support the podcast by becoming a Patron today! https://patreon.com/robertaglasstruecrimereport Or throw a tip in the tip jar! https://buymeacoffee.com/robertaglass Or support Roberta by sending a donation via Venmo. https://venmo.com/robertaglass

Nancy Jarecki is the founder of bettybeauty, inc. in New York in 2006 with the innovative idea to develop color for “hair down there.” She got the idea after visiting a hair salon in Rome, Italy where she discovered an untapped market that women indeed were searching for ways to color match their hair down there and cover grays. She worked with medical professionals to develop a safe formula. The color product has received many innovative beauty awards and has been featured by Vogue, The Oprah Magazine, Forbes, The Doctors and more. The products are available both domestically and internationally at salons/spas, retail stores and online at bettybeauty.com and Amazon. In episode #107 your favorite CEOs Taylor Graham and Chloe Willemsen are sitting down with an entrepreneurial force to be wreckened with... Nancy Jarecki Nancy has always played by her own rules. She's the innovator behind the multiple award- winning company bettybeauty, inc., was born in Kansas, studied art in Texas, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an artist. Recognized as one of the up and coming Southern California artists by LA Weekly, Nancy showcased her art at numerous shows and in corporate art collections. As Nancy continued on her entrepreneurial path in Los Angeles, she was tapped in early 1986 by the creators of a startup cable network to help develop and launch a cable network called Movietime. The following year she was an instrumental part of the launch team for the network now known as E! Entertainment Television. During this time, Nancy met her husband, Andrew Jarecki, who was visiting Los Angeles to launch his company, MovieFone. She soon moved to New York to join him, helping him develop the business, and starting their new family. In 1999, the Jareckis sold MovieFone to AOL Time Warner started a movie production company as well as moved their family to Rome, Italy, where they were completing work on the Oscar-nominated film Capturing the Friedmans documentary. While in Rome, where they lived for two years, Nancy had an experience that gave her the idea to start her own innovative beauty products company, bettybeauty, inc. Visiting a hair salon, she noticed women leaving with small “take home” bags. When she inquired as to what they were, the receptionist told her they were a bit of extra hair color for “the hair down there – to make it match!” Realizing that women across America would love a commercially-available product to color this important area, Nancy began developing the first safe color for the hair down there to fulfill this unmet need in the beauty market. Now know as the popular and award winning specialty hair color kits. Nancy's creation of these innovative products won her multiple awards in 2007 and 2008; ‘Innovator of the Year' by Independent Cosmetics Manufactures and Distributors. As well as winning the 2008 prestigious Cosmetic Executive Women's, ‘indie' award*. (*considered the Oscars of the beauty industry). Nancy also suffered a massive brain aneurysm and made a miraculous recovery from her near fatal death. She is now working on a book dealing with the subjects of adversity, spirituality and business. His first narrative feature as director, Arbitrage (starring Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Tim Roth and Brit Marling), premiered at Sundance in 2012 to international acclaim. CRISIS, the second feature film from Nick stars Gary Odman and takes an uncompromising look at the opioid epidemic through three parallel stories inspired by real life events. A taut and alluring thriller, the tension- filled CRISIS puts a human face on the epidemic which has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide and continues to rage out of control.

Synopsis OK – say you were paid to listen to and promote hundreds of new classical recordings every month and travel the world to broker new deals for a major record company. The question is, “What would you do in your spare time?” Well, if you’re a composer, the answer is easy: write your OWN music, of course. Sean Hickey’s “day job” is being the Senior Vice-President for Sales and Business Development at Naxos of America, but who also finds time to create his own chamber and orchestral works. On today’s date in 2007, for example, his Clarinet Concerto received its premiere performance at Symphony Space in New York City, with David Gould as soloist with the Metro Chamber Orchestra. It’s gone on to be his most-performed orchestra work, and, in keeping with Hickey’s globe-trotting, has been recorded in the Russian Federation by another virtuoso clarinetist, Alexander Fiterstein with the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony. The work also incorporates fragments of folk tunes from Scotland as part of the creative mix. Why Scottish themes? “They have a timeless quality of most great folk music, “says Hickey. “In the concerto’s cadenza, a fiddle tune leads headlong into a rapturous close.” Music Played in Today's Program Sean Hickey — Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra (Alexander Fiterstein, cl; St. Petersburg Academic Symphony; Vladimir Lande, cond.)Delos 3448 On This Day Births 1899 - American composer and teacher Randall Thompson, in New York; 1933 - American composer and pianist Easley Blackwood, in Indianapolis; Premieres 1845 - Lortzing: opera "Undine," in Magdeburg at the Stadttheater; 1889 - Puccini: opera "Edgar," in Milan at the Teatro alla Scala; 1917 - Debussy: Sonata No. 2 for flute, viola, and harp, at a concert of the Société Musicale Indépendante in Paris, by the trio of Manouvirier (flute), Jarecki (viola), and Jamet (harp); 1918 - Prokofiev: Symphony No. 1 ("Classical"), in Petrograd, by the former Court Orchestra with the composer conducting; 1922 - Frederick Converse: Symphony No. 2, by the Boston Symphony, Pierre Monteux conducting; 1924 - Youmans: musical "No, No Nanette," in Detroit; After stops in Chicago and London, the musical opened on Broadway on Sept. 16, 1925; 1937 - Copland: a play-opera for high school "The Second Hurricane," at the Grand Street Playhouse in New York City, with soloists from the Professional Children's School, members of the Henry Street Settlement adult chorus, and the Seward High School student chorus, with Lehman Engle conducting and Orson Welles directing the staged production; One professional adult actor, Joseph Cotton, also participated (He was paid $10); 1939 - Leonard Bernstein's first appearance as a conductor, leading his own incidental score to "The Birds" at Harvard; 1942 - Bernstein: Clarinet Sonata, in Boston, with clarinetist David Glazer and the composer at the piano; 1948 - Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 6, at Royal Albert Hall in London, by the BBC Symphony, Sir Adrian Boult conducting; 1973 - Bliss: "Variations" for orchestra, in London, with Leopold Stokowski conducting; 1985 - Morton Feldman: "For Philip Guston," for chamber ensemble, in New York; 1988 - Bernstein: "Missa brevis," in Atlanta by the Atlanta Symphony Chorus conducted by Robert Shaw; Others 1749 - Against Handel's wishes, in advance of its official premiere scheduled for April 27, a public rehearsal of Handel's "Music for the Royal Fireworks" at Vauxhall Gardens takes place; Reports suggest 12,000 attended, causing traffic jams on London Bridge (Gregorian date: May 2); 1829 - Mendelssohn, age 20, arrives in London for his first visit. 1863 - American premiere of J.S. CRISIS – watch trailer NICHOLAS JARECKI (Director/Producer/Screenwriter) is a best-selling author, screenwriter and award-winning director who has produced five films. Crisis is his second picture as writer/director. His last movie, Arbitrage, was made for $13 million and went on to gross over $52 million in international theatrical and simultaneous video on demand rentals, making it the highest grossing ‘‘Day and Date'' independent film in cinema history. Arbitrage received many accolades and earned a “Best Actor” nomination for its star Richard Gere at the Golden Globes®. The National Board of Review named it one of its Top 10 Independent Films of 2012. At 16 Jarecki was hired as a technical consultant on the 1995 film Hackers, where his job was to consult with the actors and director about computer hacking. Jarecki took an interest in filmmaking on the set of Hackers, recalling, “I kept noticing that there was this guy that the actors seemed to really look up to and respect, so I asked, ‘Who’s that?’ and they told me he was the director. Then I knew it was clear what I wanted to do.” At 19 Jarecki graduated from New York University and went on to try directing music videos to get noticed in the film community. After no one expressed interest in his video services he decided to interview his favorite directors to see how they got their start. A literary agent introduced by a family friend liked the idea and got Jarecki a $50,000 advance from Doubleday to write the 2001 book Breaking In: How 20 Film Directors Got Their Start. Today we recap an all-time classic, Capturing The Friedmans, and get into a lively debate about how this documentary stacks up in today’s world. Was director Andrew Jarecki irresponsible in how he handled the footage and information he had? Was there a bias towards helping Jesse? Will our guest Curtis Cook and Paco ever see eye-to-eye on this doc? Listen to find out!The true crime documentary Capturing The Friedmans was directed by Andrew Jarecki. Released in 2003, this was Jarecki’s first film and was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award. While preparing a documentary about children’s birthday party entertainers, Jarecki learned that professional clown David Friedman, was the son and brother of two men who had been convicted of child sexual abuse in a high-profile 1980s criminal trial. Using home videos made by the Friedman family before and during the trial, Jarecki explores the conflicting stories of the accused, the alleged victims and the investigators as this modern day Greek tragedy unfolds on film. There are many documentaries like Capturing The Friedmans but somehow this doc is entirely unforgettable. Our guest Curtis Cook is a writer and standup comedian living in Los Angeles. He’s puked after a keg stand on a show called Flophouse, traveled through an Ebola checkpoint for a segment on Vice News, and awkwardly interacting with Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein during a sketch on Portlandia. Most recently, Curtis’ standup has appeared on Comedy Central, where he also wrote for the reboot of Crank Yankers and was a writer/correspondent for the WGA Award nominated The Jim Jefferies Show.*Brendan Lynch's "clown joke" is not really a clown joke*Curtis' shutdown talk show The End Is NightFollow Curtis Cook on:Twitter: @curtis_cookInstagram: @curtsicookcomedyFollow us on:Twitter: @supdocpodcastInstagram: @supdocpodcastFacebook: @supdocpodcastsign up for our mailing listAnd you can show your support to Sup Doc by donating on Patreon.

When NBA players walked off the court in protest over the police shooting of Jacob Blake in late August, they announced a surprising precondition for their return: that the arenas in which they played should be used as voting sites in the November 2020 election. The idea had been floated by a group of activists led by Eugene Jarecki, an Emmy and Peabody award-winning documentary filmmaker from Vermont. Jarecki is co-chair of the non-partisan Election Super Centers Project. Numerous professional sports teams have now agreed to have their stadiums and arenas serve as election centers, including the Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks, Pittsburgh Steelers, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards. Jarecki explains how the idea became reality with the help of basketball superstar LeBron James, coach Doc Rivers, and others, and why they view this move as a vital strategy to defend fair elections and American democracy.

Emmy and Peabody award-winning director Eugene Jarecki is interested in American justice, poetry in film, journalism, and Elvis Presley. In his latest documentary, 'The King,' Jarecki jumped behind the wheel of Elvis’ Rolls Royce to drive cross-country on a musical road trip in an effort to explore the loss of authenticity in America. “We’re at a time where we’re looking very closely at what the American dream really means. Who is there that any of us can think of who more poetically represents the American dream than Elvis Presley?” As a musician, Elvis began from humble roots but soon had a meteor-like career and the film is meant to highlight these parallels with America. The director added, “I think Elvis is a person who got lost and he got lost at the height of his power. Isn’t that America, too?” In addition to this audio format, the print interview for this conversation is available on Creative Screenwriting Magazine’s website. Person Place Thing with Randy Cohen

His new documentary, The King, sees Elvis Presley as a symbol of the rise and fall of America. So where does that leave Col. Parker, Elvis’s manager, widely disparaged for exploiting Elvis? “We deserve what we get,” says Jarecki, referring both to democracy and rock’n’roll. But do we? I didn’t vote for Trump. A conversation about Cadillacs, capitalism, and moral responsibility. With music from Stephanie Jenkins.

Forty years after the death of Elvis Presley, two-time Sundance Grand Jury winner Eugene Jarecki’s new film takes the King’s 1963 Rolls-Royce on a musical road trip across America. From Memphis to New York, Las Vegas, and beyond, the journey traces the rise and fall of Elvis as a metaphor for the country he left behind. In this groundbreaking film, Jarecki paints a visionary portrait of the state of the American dream and a penetrating look at how the hell we got here. A diverse cast of Americans, both famous and not, join the journey, including Alec Baldwin, Rosanne Cash, Chuck D, Emmylou Harris, Ethan Hawke, Van Jones, Mike Myers, and Dan Rather, among many others. To investigate these questions, THE KING traces Elvis’ rise and fall from the Deep South to New York, Las Vegas, and countless points between. Alongside this, the film examines America in parallel, from her auspicious founding to her own struggles with excess power up to the acute challenges of today. This was always Jarecki’s intent, but he could never have anticipated the election of Donald Trump, which happened in mid-production and sent a shock wave through the filmmaking process. Secret Handshake is an authentication protocol with non-standard and strong anonymity property: Namely, the secrecy of the *affiliations* (i.e. the certificates) of party A who engages in this authentication protocol with party B will be protected against any B* (i.e. a malicious party which pretends to be B) who does not meet A's authentication criteria. This strong secrecy and anonymity protection turns out to be possible, and quite efficiently so, based on various standard cryptographic assumptions. The talk will give an overview of the problem, the various solutions, and the several efficiency and security issues involved in making such anonymous authentication schemes practical. About the speaker: Stanislaw Jarecki is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. He is working on cryptography and fault tolerant distributed protocols. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science at MIT in 2001. His thesis work was on threshold protocols, which are protocols that enable shared computation of cryptographic functions in a distributed setting. Between MIT and UCI, Stanislaw worked as a researcher at Intertrust and then as a postdoc in the cryptography and security group at Stanford. His current work includes threshold protocols, affiliation-privacy in authentication protocols, robust cryptographic protocols, and theoretical issues like secure 2-party computation.
