This intensely creative time in McCartney's life saw him writing and recording four studio albums with Wings (Venus and Mars, Wings at the Speed of Sound, London Town and Back to the Egg), the biggest selling British single of the 1970s, 'Mull of Kintyre,' and a solo album packed with electronic experimentalism, McCartney II. During a period of diverse musical evolution, McCartney melded his own melody-driven approach with in-vogue styles like disco, punk and new wave.Away from Wings, McCartney dabbled in music publishing, science fiction writing, semi-autobiographical filmmaking, animation, viral marketing, journalist boycotting, and smuggling cannabis past authority figures with mixed success. McGear, an album Paul co-wrote with his brother, Mike, tops a long list of lesser known projects and collaborations - some of which never saw the light of day - that kept McCartney busy between hit records. For the second half of this decade, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr remained ever present in McCartney's life. Collaborations were mooted, and multi-million dollar offers for one-off reunion concerts were plentiful, but the scars of the Beatles' bitter separation, and their complex, hard to untangle business ties complicated their private and public relationships.THE McCARTNEY LEGACY series is the first truly comprehensive biography, and the most finely detailed exploration of McCartney's creative life beyond the Beatles, ever undertaken. As well as thousands of never-before-seen documents, this volume is informed by hundreds of interviews, including exclusive, in-depth discussions with all four surviving members of Wings Mk. II and Mk. III - Geoff Britton, Joe English, Steve Holley and Laurence Juber - plus countless producers, musicians, recording engineers, designers, and touring staff who worked with McCartney between 1974-80.THE McCARTNEY LEGACY, VOLUME 2 is an in-depth exploration of McCartney's creative and personal life during a period that saw him composing constantly, and recording in Nashville, New Orleans and a boat moored off the Virgin Islands, as well as at Abbey Road in London, a 13th century British castle and his home studios in Scotland and Sussex.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

This, the 200th episode of Harmonious World, is somewhat self-indulgent, as it features a conversation with Dan Jennings, broadcaster and host of the podcast Desperately Seeking Paul, who interviewed me back in lockdown. You'll hear in our conversation why it's self-indulgent and why it appears on the 40th anniversary of the release of The Style Council album Cafe Bleu. You can read the Guardian article we refer to in our chat.Thank you to Dan for spending time with me, and I hope you enjoy listening in to our conversation. This was a delightful conversation and I'm glad to be able to share it with you at the very start of 2024 and season 15 of Harmonious World.Singer Lucy-Anne Daniels is very much one to watch and I can highly recommend you search for a gig where you can hear her sing and watch her own the stage.Although it's a great honour for me to be able to interview some titans of music, I'm really going to seek out new artists like Lucy-Anne (and composer of my Harmonious World theme tune, Joe English) to promote. You can watch a video of her performing with fellow musicians from the Birmingham Conservatoire.Watch out for my new blog feature of upcoming gigs - mostly UK but anything that looks interesting and especially those that feature past or future guests.Thank you for listening to Harmonious World. It was a delight to interview bassist Christian McBride for the latest episode. A real delight. You can probably tell.Christian has worked with so many great musicians and we discuss his work with just a few of them (and the eight Grammys he has been awarded), including Sting, Dee Dee Bridgewater. We also talk about some of the tracks on Prime, his album that was released earlier in 2023.You can catch Christian with some of his musical friends at the Village Vanguard, as we discuss. Alternatively, check out some of his videos and you can see what I meant about the concentration that goes alongside the fun.I hope you also enjoy the first playing of the new Harmonious World theme tune, composed and performed by Joe English.Thank you for listening to Harmonious World. Hello again! Well once again I don't have an obvious title for this episode so I'm going with a song title. Today I'm going with a 1974 song from Paul McCartney and Wings. It was released as a single and I don't think appears on any studio album. Fun trivia: This song features drummer Jeff Britton who was replaced by Joe English on the next studio album. Joe English, btw, was American. Life is funny if you pay attention.
A month on from the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria millions of people are struggling to come to terms with their new reality. More than 50,000 people were killed and those who survived are left with the grief and devastation of losing their loved ones – not to mention aftershocks, disease, and a lack of basic supplies. Among the worst affected are children. On this edition of the Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson is joined by British aid worker, Joe English, from UNICEF, who has spent the last month in Turkey and Syria working with children scarred physically and mentally by the disaster.Producer: Emma Rae WoodhouseInterviews producer: Alex EddenEditor: Philly Beaumont

https://www.linkedin.com/in/joeenglishjre5/ (Joe English) of https://www.360consultingdfw.com/ (360 Consulting) observes that so many businesses struggle to meet sales goals and expectations in spite of their best efforts. This manifests itself in stalled out proposals, inability to take sales to the next level, lack of time to manage sales, inability to find the "right" salesperson, or having the wrong compensation system. Joe points out that there are 4 reasons why companies struggle with their sales: 1. They lack the right go-to-market strategy; 2. They don't have roles, responsibilities, comp plans and onboarding processes for their sales team; 3. Their sales process is ineffective; and 4. They don't have the right management process. Joe recommends business owners must have an exceptional onboarding plan and a solid management process that provides constant feedback and input to salespeople so they have clear expectations. Joe offers a 5-step process to implement an effective sales development and management process. Listen to the end for Joe's gift to our audience. Ukraine's south-eastern port city of Mariupol continues to bear the brunt of a sustained Russian bombardment. Each day seems to brings its own fresh horror for the surrounded city, where more than 300,000 thousand people remain trapped. Overnight there was more as Russia try to open up a land corridor across southern Ukraine. A Russian missile has reportedly struck an art school where 400 people were sheltering. There are unverified reports that residents are being forcibly and illegally taken to Russia. Authorities say thousands of Mariupol residents have been rounded up and deported to Russia, without their passports. Those details are also sketchy. President Volodymyr Zelensky was damning in his criticism of Russia's siege. The UN Human Rights Office says 902 Ukraine civilians have officially been killed during Russia's invasion although it admits the actual number is probably much higher. The number of Ukrainians forced to flee their homes has grown to about 10 million - about a quarter of the population. Humanitarian aid organisation UNICEF says the situation in Mariupol has become desperate. UNICEF emergencies specialist Joe English spoke to Susie Ferguson from Lviv.

As Spring to turned to Summer in 1978, Paul McCartney was back in the business of rebuilding a Wings lineup -- a process all-too-familiar to the Maccas as a matter of course every few years since the band's inception. Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English left big shoes to fill - especially after having charmed the globe during the 1976 WINGS OVER THE WORLD tour...but fill those shoes the Maccas did, with the addition of scorching lead guitarist Lawrence Juber, and set-your-clock-to-it drumming courtesy of Steve Holly. Like birds flocking south for the winter, Paul, Linda, Denny, Lawrence and Steve found themselves shortly thereafter in the studio cutting tracks for yet another new Wings LP - while the vinyl was still cooling on the band's successful 1978 LP offering London Town. With Wings in the studio, Ringo Starr was busy making a last-ditch attempt to salvage the disastrous chart showing of his own latest LP Bad Boy, with a flurry of promotional activity that ultimately amounted to little. As Ringo and Paul worked away, George and John were in the midst of respective trips around the world - Harrison to Spain and Lennon to Japan... As summer turned to fall in the midst of 1977, the fab four legacy continued to loom large in the worlds of John, Paul George and Ringo... and indeed, the world at large. No such greater cultural compliment could be given than that of Lorne Michaels's new fab mock-umentary, The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash, which began filming on August 2nd. Dirk, Nasty, Stig and Barry's legend would last a lunchtime, and there to sit in on the feast was a host of comedy's elite: from SNL heavyweights like Bill Murray, John Belushi, Gilda Radner and Dan Aykroyd, to pythons such as Eric Idle...and of course one fourth of their inspiration, Mr. George Harrison. So enamored with the pre-fab four was George, that references to the Rutland sound and their infamous trousers would pop up in just about every interview "the quiet one" would give for years to come! While the hits of old were spoofed in masterful fashion, new hits were on the horizon as well...most notably in the new McCartney-Laine penned ode to Scotland, Mull of Kintyre. Paul's star continued its commercial climb with no sign of slowing down, but the success of his band Wings was put into jeopardy that September with Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English quit the band. With one former Beatle in damage control mode...Ringo Starr (the noisy one) forged ahead with a new LP release he hoped would undo the damage that his waning success over the last year had taken on his career. Thus the LP Ringo The 4th...a boogie-woogie beaucoup of sound that Ringo hoped would recapture his glory...but alas, it was not to be.... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
You’ve heard of the phrase, “It’s a lot cheaper to retain customers than it is to acquire.” If you’re working in customer experience then you probably live and die by this credo. And although there is truth to that statement, you still need to acquire new customers. If you want to have growth, you need a robust sales and marketing engine that brings in new customers everyday. And that’s where sales enablement comes in. What exactly does sales need from B2B marketing? Effective B2B digital marketers are aligned together with sales, and they both drive revenue to the organization. In order for you to be a successful marketer, you have to understand the sales perspective and know exactly what they need so the both of you can drive the results you are looking for. In this episode, Joe English shares his experience in sales and gives us a perspective on how the sales process works and how marketing can provide the enablement that sales needs in order to drive those results.
Tim continues his discussion on life on the road with The Joe English Band, his faith, his career, modern christian music as well as the new music he is working on now.
Tim discusses his amazing musical childhood and how he chose the bass guitar, his time at the Frost School of Music @ the University of Miami as well as his career in Nashville and how he teamed up with Joe English and his band.
Being agile, adaptive and even fluid may have been a means of survival for the past year, but it is fast becoming a habit as uncertainty is the new certainty. Yet the thought of pivoting or forging a different path can still leave us stuck, inhibited by fear and frozen by indecision. So how do we prepare for career change in a positive way that helps us push past this inertia and turn fear into an empowering form of excitement? For Joe English, founder of LGBTQ+ non profit Hope In A Box, change has been and continues to be an ongoing component of his journey and these experiences helped build character, grit, and empathy. In this episode we learn how Joe navigated the challenges of being perceived as different, embraced his sexual identity, and set career goals that saw him leaving his home town in order to create the change he wanted to see in the world, by providing inclusive literature and resources to schools. “Boy, is Vaughn Meader fucked.” - Lenny Bruce, Nov. 22, 1963 "When you're down, it's a long way up. When you're up, it's a long way down. It's all the same thing. No new tale to tell." - Love and Rockets REO Speedwagon - Ridin' The Storm Out (studio version) (1973) I played this song over and over in my High School cool-kids band Second Age, having never heard this studio version, sung by not Kevin Cronin. Not nearly as exciting. Rufus - Read All About It (1971) On this show, I play songs by Rufus AND The American Breed, whose big hit was "Bend Me, Shape Me". They had three top-40 songs in total. Al Ciner, Kevin Murphy, and Lee Graziano went on to form Rufus. Chaka Kahn (Yvette Marie Stevens) joined in 1972, age 18, and the rest is history. I love Chaka Kahn almost as much as I love Gladys Knight. All music we heard in the '80s and '90s came (usually) from people who had lived through great hardship, for long years, and no promised road to success. Bay City Rollers - Jenny (1972) Not a bad group, even though they were produced by that unctuous Jonathan King (who gave the world Genesis (good) and the "Ooohgachaca" version of "Hooked on a Feeling" (bad)), they were struggling with their sound, but I don't think it would be fair to label them a 'boy band' at this point. That would come in a couple of years. Bay City Rollers - Hey C.B. (1973) Wings - Beware My Love (demo) (1976) Led Zeppelin's John Bonham on drums. The studio version featured the somewhat less swingy Joe English, who went on to play with the band Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead formed, Kingfish, but not WITH Bob Weir. Kingfish signed to Jet Records for their 1978 album Trident. Since they were on Jet, it makes sense that they opened for ELO on their Out Of The Blue tour (with the spaceship and pre-recorded backing) which I attended. September 1978. I asked a guy who studies all things GD but even HE doesn't know for sure who the drummer for that tour was. The Crucibles - Beware Of Low-Flying Birds (1966) 5-pc band from Madison, Wisconsin, later "known" as Kiriae Crucible. Can you imagine getting to record your own song in a real recording studio, and when the things arrive, the title is changed because of a shortage of space/ink on the label? TRUE STORY! Paul McCartney - Dress Me Up As a Robber (demo sections) (1982) Wings - Going To New Orleans (My Carnival) (demo) (1975) Bay City Rollers – Saturday Night (original version) (1973) Their big breakthrough hit in the US was recorded previously with their first lead singer Nobby Clark, who left the band to pursue a solo career. The band re-recorded a slightly less Scottish version with their new singer Les McKeown, and, of course, hit it huge. Poor Nobby recorded a couple of singles and did some theater, but ended up ruing his decision for the rest of his drug-addled life. How awful. Can you imagine? Would you rather be an ex-lead singer whose band blew up right after you left, or would you rather be in that band during their heyday and watch it slowly slip back into the morass of trivia land? Paul McCartney - Stop, You Don’t Know Where She Came From (demo) (1980) Bay City Rollers - Manana (1972) The American Breed - When I’m With You (1970) Paul McCartney - It's Not On (Pipes of Peace Bonus Track) (1983) Paul McCartney - Mr. H Atom/You Know I'll Get You Baby (McCartney II Bonus Track) (1980) Bay City Rollers - We Can Make Music (1972) Rufus - Fire One Fire Two Fire Three (1971) The origins of Rufus go back to 1962 Cicero, Illinois, when they formed Gary & The Knight Lites. Rufus - Follow The Lamb (1971) One of the later members of Rufus was David (Hawk) Wolinski, who co-wrote or solely wrote their songs "Hollywood", "Street Player" (later recorded by co-writer Danny Seraphine's band Chicago), "Everlasting Love", "Do You Love What You Feel", and the 1983 hit "Ain't Nobody," which reached #1 on the US Billboard R&B chart. Rufus - Brand New Day (1971) From the movie "The Landlord". Written by Al Kooper. Rufus - Maybe Your Baby (1972) Written by Stevie, who recorded it on his Talking Book album. I like this version a little more. Tighter. Paul McCartney - Soily (1971) Someone on Quora said: Soily is a fictional character created by McCartney, the daughter of Bruce and Yvonne McMouse. The McMouse family lives under the stage where Wings perform in an hour-long cartoon produced by Sir Paul but later shelved. Very few people have seen the film. Presumably, if heard in the animation, the song’s lyrics would make sense in context. But apparently, Paul doesn’t like the movie, and no one who has seen it is clamoring for its release, so it may be left to rot and be lost to history aside from this song and some character sketches sold at auction a few years ago. I said: A line from the song: "The cat in satin trousers says it's oily..." explains....something... Wings - Silly Love Songs (demo) (1976) Suburban 9 to 5 - Captain Kangaroo (1968) Pretty safe to say you haven't heard of this band, but the guitarist is Gary Richrath, later of REO Speedwagon. Suburban 9 to 5 - Sunshine Becomes You (1968) The American Breed - Powder (1968) So this is a remnant of the Sgt. Pepper era, where every band member was now asked to (nay, TOLD to) assert their individual personality, like The Monkees, this album art sort of aping Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. more or less. One thing both albums also have in common: They were both released on the descent, although they could not have known it at the time. The American Breed - Pumpkin (1968) The American Breed - Scarlet (1968) The American Breed -Green (1968) The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - Gypsy Lover (1970) You can read all about the tragic tale of Vaughn Meader all over the web. But what is NOT widely known is that Vaughn Meader released a 1972 album called "The Second Coming" (two cuts are featured here) where he plays the part of Jesus Christ returned to Earth amid the hippy culture that birthed Jesus Christ Superstar (which was produced by Tom O'Horgan, who produced Hair, Lenny (which I own and will feature soon), and was credited with "stage production conceived and adapted by" for the 1978 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band film. So...that career was interesting.) to virtually no sales, no radio play, etc....it was as if he, himself, was the guy that put the rifle in Clay Sha....er......Lee Harvey Oswald's hands. No one wanted to know. He made a sort of comeback, appearing in the film Linda Lovelace For President in 1975. Vaughn Meader - The Second Coming (Part 1) (1972) Vaughn Meader - The Second Coming (Part 2) (1972) Barry McGuire - Secret Saucer Man (1968) Three years from "Eve Of Destruction". I LOVE this song. Bay City Rollers - Alright (1971) Clarence Carter - Light My Fire (1969) With Duane Allman of The Allman Joys on guitar. Frank Zappa - Public Service Announcement (1968) Lena Zavaroni - Jump Down Jimmy (1980) You know her story. Don't you? She suffered from the same affliction as Karen Carpenter. Suburban 9 to 5 - Walk Away (1968) Martin & Finley - Long Life And Success To The Farmer (1972) Milkwood - Makeshift Pawn (1972) Would evolve into The Cars. Nazz - Wonder Who's Loving Her Now (1967) The Vapors - Prisoners (1979) The Quick - Ain't Nothin' Gonna Stop Me (1969)
Paul McCartney may have been the former Beatle with the most to prove in the early days following the Beatles' breakup...but by the latter half of 1975 McCartney and his group Wings were the band to beat from his former colleagues. A slew of hit singles and 2 consecutive top albums made Wings one of the most influential and relevant sounds of the mid 1970s, with no sign of the group slowing down as they rounded the corner into 1976. While on tour in Australia, the Wings sound truly reached fruition, with new members Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English adding their own distinct flavor to McCartney & his cohorts night after night in the land down under. From Adelaide to Kingsford to Brisbane to Melbourne, Wings seemed unstoppable in their pop dominance...but it was't until their attempted entry into Japan that the band would experience their first major setback and serendipitously their next big break... Wie was Joe English? Support the show (https://doorbraak.be/steun/)

Joe English (LEO Meath) by Collaborative Studios

Previously on Pretend Radio, I came face-to-face with pastor Jane Whaley of the Word of Faith Fellowship. When I arrived, we met in her office for a few minutes before the church service began. I was surprised by everyone's friendliness. Suddenly, the music started playing and we knew it was time to head into the main sanctuary. Jane Whaley held my hand as we walked down a long hallway towards the service. As we inched closer to the sanctuary, the music got louder and louder—it was ear drum busting loud. Jane and I walked in like rock stars. Her attorney escorted me to the second row behind Jane and her husband Sam Whaley. Word of Faith Fellowship sanctuary in Spindale, North Carolina Was the church service real or just a big show? The service started around 9:30am and ended around 12:30pm. It was a musical event filled with praise and worship. Old women were jumping up and down in their high heels, old men were singing as loud as they could, and the children appeared to be happy. Former members say that this is exactly what Jane Whaley wanted me to see. According to them, this service was tailored specifically for me. Bonus episode: Why did Paul McCartney's drummer join a cult? Joe English played drums with Paul McCartney and Wings. Today, he's a devoted member at the Word of Faith Fellowship church in Spindale, North Carolina. I met Joe English during my visit. Hear how Jane Whaley saved him from a life of drugs and rock n' roll. Listen to this exclusive Patreon episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
A special episode! This week Lonnie and I are joined by David Gargalino and Tom Hunyady for a commentary track covering the first hour of "Rockshow". We spend a fair bit of time considering Paul's choices on tracks he has used to open concerts (from 1972 through the present day), and more thoughts on the Wings/McCartney concert experience, but manage to keep our comments relevant to what is on screen! Tune in to "2 Legs:A Paul McCartney podcast" (also on podbean - https://2legspodcast.podbean.com/) in a few weeks for more from the four of us (wearing raincoats) as we discuss the back hour of Rockshow.

...and the band begins to play. The visit to New Orleans was followed by some more recording ("Wings at the Speed of Sound") and the beginning of the Wings over the World tour. The newly minted band, and their hot horn section visited the UK, Australia and France. After a short delay, the band would reach their Zenith as they hit the United States - the set being captured in its entirety on both vinyl and film. Unfortunately, fame did not sit well with the group, as the Fair Carol and Virgin Islands drove Jimmy and Joe away instead of bringing them closer. Paul would not be deterred, as he now had a new son, and being reduced to a trio (again!) resulted in the biggest hit of Paul's solo career everywhere except the United States!
This week, WTWF takes a look at the members of the Jimmy/Joe version of Wings, which lasted from the recording of Paul's brother's "McGear" album through the recording of "London Town". Where did the individual players come from? Did Geoff Britton's references to karate facilitate his exit from the band after only five months? What about those guys in the horn section? All this and more in Part One of our look at the longest-lasting iteration of Wings.
