No you're not going mad, and yes there should have been a show by now! Unfortunately with Bank Holidays, and Nick's Choir, and his Church Circuit commitments, and me being a bit unwell/under the weather it didn't work out. Simon and Nick are back, a week late because Simon forgot what date it was! Nick's trusty microphone then decided to die completely, so he sounds a little different as he had to fall back on his headset, and the master recording crashed and deleted itself before Simon could save it, so this is the Piezo backup recording, which is perfectly OK but doesn't have all the Audio Hijack niceness. Ever had that creepy feeling someone's watching you online? Now imagine if that feeling was actually your reality, not just your browsing history being tracked, but cameras following your every move on the street, your conversations being monitored, your payments scrutinized. For our guest Josh Summers, this wasn't some dystopian nightmare, it was his daily life. Josh isn't your typical privacy advocate. As the creator behind All Things Secured (both a website and YouTube channel), his passion for digital privacy was forged through nearly 20 years living abroad, much of it in China. There, he didn't just read about surveillance, he lived under its shadow, using VPNs to bypass censorship and experiencing the gut-wrenching moment of being detained and questioned by Chinese authorities. In our revealing conversation, Josh pulls back the curtain on what government surveillance actually feels like from the inside. He shares how these experiences transformed a personal survival strategy into a mission to help others protect themselves in our increasingly watched world. We dive into how surveillance actually works from those eerily accurate facial recognition systems to the GPS tracking that follows your every move, and the countless ways big companies turn your personal information into profit. Josh not only makes us aware of potential problems, he offers real-world solutions that balance security with the convenience we all crave. With Josh's guidance, we discover surprisingly simple ways to shield our digital lives from encrypted messaging apps that keep conversations private, virtual credit cards that protect your finances, and alternative mailing addresses that safeguard your physical location. He also reveals the hidden dangers lurking in those so-called smart devices scattered throughout your home, and explains why privacy matters even if you think you have nothing to hide. Show Notes: [00:34] Josh is the host of All Things Secured. He wants to help people become a hacker's worst nightmare. [01:30] Josh, his wife, and children lived in China. There was censorship and social platforms were blocked. [02:05] He began using VPNs. Over the decade there, every type of surveillance was used. [03:34] He had a travel site and walked around with a camera. [04:03] In 2018 he was detained by the government. It was scary and he realized the rights he was giving up when traveling to other countries. [05:53] He was kicked out of China, and became more conscious of the pervasive mass surveillance. [08:40] He was severely outmatched with the psychological tricks of the interrogators. [12:57] Even if surveillance is legal, that doesn't make it ethical. [13:18] Small consistent steps towards privacy will make us less of a target. [14:25] Josh talks about ways that we are being monitored from cameras to facial recognition. Digital currencies track what we purchase. [17:04] Facebook has so many files on us. Being tracked online adds up. [21:07] There are ways to build a privacy moat around your digital life and still stay in contact with friends and family. [22:27] Steps for practical privacy include being careful about how you share data, encrypted alternatives, and use masking services to reduce your digital footprint. You can also use virtual credit cards. [31:46] We talk about using peer-to-peer payment apps. [34:12] When your habits and your contacts are public, it makes it easier to social engineer. [35:29] Virtual mailboxes can add additional privacy. [39:50] Issues with IoT devices include how it's being stored, transmitted, and shared. Thanks for joining us on Easy Prey. You really need to hear this. Plus, near the end of our conversation, Josh has a surprise for every 4:13er, and it involves getting something for FREE. So, let's get going! While Josh and his family was doing ministry in China, he was detained and interrogated by authorities and had no idea if or when he would be released. In this week's episode, Josh graciously shares some of his journey with self-awareness, and how this unexpected crisis led him to a deeper encounter with with himself. While few of us will share the particularities of his experience, I think Josh beautifully puts words to the inner disorientation that all kinds of crises bring: feelings of shock and shame and a deep disrupting of identity. He transparently shares what it was like for him to begin processing this crisis. He talks about how he initially tried to distance himself from the pain, and also, what he began to discover – about himself and God – as he leaned in. Episode 346 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Scott Weller, CTO & Co-Founder at EnFi. The formula for a thriving tech ecosystem ideally looks something like this: * Entrepreneurial-minded person works for startups and learns a ton. Perhaps they even witness success at scale to an exit. * Said person takes lessons learned and builds their own company to an exit. * Said person then starts to mentor and invest back into the ecosystem to fund the next generation of companies. * Said person eventually finds an idea that they can't get out of their head and launches another company. This is the case for Scott, as he was involved in tech from an early age and connected with a talented group of entrepreneurs who were building the first generation of online gaming where he witnessed a couple of exits. He then co-founded and was the CTO of SessionM which led to a successful exit to Mastercard. He was angel investing and advising companies when he and another successful entrepreneur, Josh Summers, saw a problem which was a perfect opportunity to disrupt an industry using AI. Josh has the same startup founder pedigree as he was part of the WHERE team that was acquired by PayPal and then went on to found Clypd which was acquired by Xandr. The two have come together to build a company called EnFi which recently announced $7.5M in seed funding led by Unusual Ventures with participation from Boston Seed, Argon Ventures and Impellent Ventures. EnFi is accelerating complex credit analysis and risk monitoring with AI Assistants for bank and private lending origination, underwriting, and portfolio management teams. In this episode of our podcast, we cover: * A discussion about the AI landscape in the Boston tech scene. * Scott's background story and his early involvement with one of the very first Internet Service Providers called Intelecom Data Systems as a teenager. * Working at an early stage web gaming startup called Gamesville which was acquired by Lycos. * GameLogic and the early innovation of working with regulated games and the level of innovation in terms of patent creation which was acquired by Scientific Games. * Being early to market with an online video product for SMBs called SnapYap that he started with others. * The founding story of SessionM with Mark Hermann & Lars Albright and how the company evolved through the years, plus its acquisition by Mastercard and how things materialized post-acquisition. * SessionM's involvement in building the very successful mobile app for Starbucks and its bonus & loyalty campaigns. * The background story and all the details about EnFi and how they are disrupting the market. * Common startup mistakes that he sees entrepreneurs make over and over again. * And so much more.

This one is a bit late (nothing new there). Also I am sorry that the audio isn't as good as normal - not sure what happened but there was a lot of crackling and some sort of stuttering/drop out. I have done my best to clean it up as best I can. Anyway, with all that said Nick and I got together to talk about what we thought of the WWDC announcements, Apple Intelligence and more. Evolving as a yoga student and teacher involves curiosity, somatic exploration and the desire for continuous learning, self-discovery and growth both on and off the mat. When I first stepped onto the mat under Terry Cockburn's guidance, I couldn't have predicted the transformation that awaited me and how profoundly her knowledge and teaching would influence my own personal practice and teaching style. Together we unravel the journey of yoga beyond just postures, sharing insights into its impact on personal growth.Terry and I discuss: the difference between functional alignment (adapting poses to suit each individual body) vs. aesthetic alignment (visually perfect pose),the essence of a nurturing yoga practice, creating an embodied practice - developing a deep awareness and a connection to the body, the hurdles we've had to overcome as teachers, especially during the pandemic, and importance of keeping an open line of communication with students and guiding them toward health and progression in their yoga practice. a shared love of Qigong and how incorporating it into your practice supports a healthy cultivation of energy. Through our shared experiences, we aim to inspire and support you in creating a daily practice, enriched by education and community. Terry's journey from learning yoga to becoming a teacher, trainer, studio owner and a creative energy behind the River Bird Sangha and school, reminds us of the power yoga has that shapes, not only our bodies, but our life's direction. For thirty years, she has worked in the fitness and yoga industry as a trainer to individuals, teams and yoga schools and owned a vibrant community-based yoga studio, before pivoting to teaching online full-time with her and partner Josh Summers. Which is nowhere near as big as Apple's. SECURITY & PRIVACY Blog - iMessage with PQ3: The new state of the art in quantum-secure messaging at scale – Apple Dougee Says: iMessage lacked post-compromise security. In the Signal protocol, your communication keys are constantly updated and “ratcheted” forwards. This means that a compromised phone/backup won't be useful for long. You'll replace the stolen keys within a few minutes. In iMessage this wasn't true: public keys were long-lived. The new update adds periodic rekeying using elliptic curve cryptography, to ensure that compromised keys quickly become useless, both in the future and for decrypting past messages. This closes an important threat vector. Along with key transparency, this makes iMessage a state-of-the-art cryptographic protocol. Even with those improvements, the remaining problem is that elliptic curve crypto is not secure against future quantum computing advances. This doesn't matter today, but if such computers are built in the future, they could be used to decrypt past conversations. So Apple has made two changes in this update. Frequent elliptic curve rekeying. Second “post quantum secure” algorithm: Kyber. This algorithm rekeys as well, but a little less frequently. (This is because Kyber cophertexts are much bigger and “eat” more space on the wire.) An important note here is that the two main encryption algorithms are arranged into a “combiner”: this means that as long as one algorithm remains secure, nobody should be able to break the encryption. This means Apple gets the safety of elliptic curves today, plus PQC in the future (maybe.) Ok, so what? You might point out that this is overkill. Quantum computers are years away, and key compromise is rare. So why should I care about this? The answer is you probably don't need to care. It is overkill. But sometimes overkill sends a useful message, one that should be heard by people who aren't technical at all. However, this time Nick and Simon talk about the DMA (again), the Vision Pro (again), Peleton backpedalling, and look at the award-winning, world's smallest humanoid robot ironically reported on by Giant Freakin Robot! Also Simon's microphone failed suddenly and unexpectedly with no apparent cause just before the show... so sound quality isn't quite as good as normal - sorry. OK so Simon is finally catching up, and here is the show from only a week ago where he and Nick spend some time on what's new in Apple's most recent releases, some customer support experiences they've had, and to be honest a lot of time talking about Simon's new EV... and why not? Also sorry about the intrusion of a bunch of folk and Vinnie the dog part of the way through... Apparently the “On Air” sign wasn't enough to deter them - edited out the worst of it but you will find Vinnie wasn't going to give up until his opinions were heard :D, and there is some background noise in the later part of the show. Anyway hope you enjoy this one regardless! GIVEAWAYS & OFFERS Get 2 months on the Kino Premium Plan with offer code KINOWITHJOHNNEMO Why not come and join the Slack community? This one is OBSCENELY LATE (and it is all Simon's fault, and he holds his hands up to it) - anyway, in the spirit of “we recorded it, so we're putting it out” here is an ancient recording discussing stuff that happened way back in the start of September, plus more of Nick and Simon's usual idle musings on other stuff not related to anything in particular. In this episode we peel back the layers of Eastern wisdom with our esteemed guest, Josh Summers. Seasoned Yin teachers and novice practitioners alike will benefit from Josh's perspective in this fascinating discussion.Josh generously shares his insights on how Yin Yoga, when melded with TCM, can prepare the mind and body for deeper meditation. But we also recognize the challenges teachers face when trying to assimilate and impart this knowledge. Josh gives some great advice for teachers who wish to honor this philosophy with authenticity while staying within their scope of practice. In the final stretch of our conversation, we delve into the potent biopsychosocial model of pain in Chinese Medicine. We discuss how it addresses physical pain, often rooted in emotional trauma, and honors both physical and inner subjective experiences. We also illuminate how the practice of Yin Yoga can enhance the function of our integrated systems, improve circulation, reduce stress, and foster feelings of peace and joy. Lastly, but certainly not least, we examine the power of storytelling in Yin Yoga. Sorry this one is disgracefully and inexcusably late because... well because of stuff. Anyway Simon was joined by Bart to take a look at the news of the week (at the time) and found a bit more to talk about than they thought they might... Also apologies the sound isn't up to the usual standard... there was quite a lot of traffic noise and also either Discord or Audio Hijack had a hissy fit at Bart's end and he had to do the second half with just a live mic resulting in some gain issues...
