(Content Trigger Warning: Child Sexual Abuse Allegations.)On May 12, 1983 Judy Johnson dropped off her 2 1/2 year old son, Billy,  for his first day at the popular family owned and operated McMartin Preschool.  Three month later, Judy Johnson (who was later diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia) would make a call to police to report that her son had been molested by not only her estranged husband, but also a staff member at the McMartin preschool, 25 year old Ray Buckey. At one point in the case, it was publicized the seven teachers at McMartin had committed 115 sexual crimes, which later expanded to 321 counts. This case would be one of the most expensive criminal trials in American history, lasting 7 years and costing $15 million…with no convictions.   Did we mention this bizarre case was during the Satanic Panic era?SOURCE MATERIALS:McMartin Preschool: Anatomy of a Panic | Retro Report | The New York TimesThe McMartin Preschool Abuse Trial: An AccountThe McMartin Preschool trials - HISTORYThe McMartin Preschool Case: Satanic Panic and Child Sexual Abuse Allegations - A&E True Crime30 Years Later, Key Figures Reflect On McMartin Preschool Case - CBS Los AngelesThe McMartin Preschool Abuse Trial: An AccountDay-care sex-abuse hysteria - WikipediaNational Sexual Assault Hotline. Welcome! "Perfect Love Casteth Out Fear”    Spring Equinox Blessings from Phoenix, Arizona for this special narration of “The Ark” envisioned by Evelyn Nolt, published in 1965.   This vision, this prophecy, that came into Evelyn's mind was so profound that it was carried by The Eagles to Menno and Sharon Pauls in BC Canada. (See Podcast #9)   Throughout the true story of their own lives, Menno and Sharon were chosen to follow actual encounters with “hobo angels” and other supernal human beings who gave them instructions to begin gathering the harvest.    The human harvest.    When Menno and Sharon began to share their story, it materialized by tape recording first and then translated into the extraordinary manuscript of “The Gathering of the Eagles” (published by Ray Hudson). It traveled all over the world without a penny exchanged and still does to this day.    When Evelyn was offered a copy of The Eagles story, she cried with joy knowing that her vision, this prophecy was miraculously similar to Menno and Sharon's lifelong mission.   When they met by phone, it was an exchange of jubilant rapture. Menno would share her story and Evelyn would know that her vision, her dream was real after all.    Two years ago in May, 2020 I was given my own special instructions to bring Evelyn's prophecy into focus. Since, it was all one dream, it was written as such. I worked for two weeks to bring the author's vision into an easier transformation for the reader to follow.   I knew that I had Evelyn's permission for the re-write when I began the translation. She had departed already for that perfect love which she had written about and I needed her approval for this, her dream, to become a reality here.   What I hadn't known was that just a few weeks ago, I felt the urgency to record this and make it Podcast #26.   I couldn't help but ask my guides, “is this the last one, then?!” The last podcast that I would ever do?   Thank you Evelyn, thank you Menno and Sharon, Judy Blake and Judy Johnson for your magical love and commitment to The Gathering of the Eagles. And Linda Johnson for your ancient love, your pedagogue friendship with both humanity and the divine.   Thank you especially to Judy Johnson who just loved the story of "The Ark" and her willingness to stay up with me through some hours of correct pronunciation of a few of Evelyn's words and communication.   It was a labor of love, for me certainly, but then I keep thinking - are we that close?    And more importantly, are we prepared? Am I?   And so we fly, dear Eagles! As we gather our friendship and our passion to preserve all that we have lived for and hoped for and all that we protect - our love for this harvest, our divine humanity.   “Perfect love casteth out fear"   Colleen Grace Clabby   THE ARK   MusiCure, Music As Medicine By Niels Eje

In 1983, in Manhattan Beach, California, one woman named Judy Johnson put forward an allegation.  Her two-and-a-half-year-old son was, at the time, attending McMartin preschool. Johnson claimed that her son had been sexually abused by a teacher at the school named Ray Buckley. Her claims were unlike anything police had heard before. Although there was no evidence of abuse taking place, police decided to send a form letter to about 200 parents of students at the pre-school. It asked them to speak to their children and listed off possible abuse they might have experienced.  Over the next seven years, seven teachers, six of them women, were charged with more than 200 counts of child abuse, involving more than than 40 children. There were accusations of Satanic rituals, animal sacrifices, administering of drugs, the creation of child exploitation material, and flying children to far away places where they were molested. The accusations became increasingly bizarre.  By the late 1980s, “McMartin” had become a household word. The trial is among the longest and costliest criminal proceedings in the history of the United States.  What emerged, however, was that none of these events had ever taken place. Today, the children who spoke to authorities say they knew at the time their allegations were false. So what was behind this hysteria? And what was behind the Satanic panic that followed?  CREDITS Guest: Ruth McIver Host: Jessie Stephens Producer: Gia Moylan Audio Producer: Ian Camilleri CONTACT US Tell us what you think of the show via email at truecrime@mamamia.com.au   Join our closed Facebook community to discuss this episode. We continue our dogged pursuit of the history of baseball's Negro Leagues with a stop this week in the suburban Philadelphia borough of Darby, PA - for a look at the famed Hilldale Club with SABR Seymour Medal-winning historian Neil Lanctot ("Fair Dealing and Clean Playing: The Hilldale Club and the Development of Black Professional Baseball").   Established as an amateur boys team in 1910 by a moonlighting civil servant named Ed Bolden, the club incorporated in November 1916, as the Hilldale Baseball & Exhibition Company - and developing into a professional Negro League powerhouse in the 1920s.   Along with Atlantic City's Bacharach Giants, Hilldale played as eastern "associates" of the predominantly midwestern Negro National League in 1920-21 - before becoming charter members of a full-fledged Bolden-founded rival Eastern Colored League in 1923.   Immediately, Hilldale's "Darby Daisies" became the team to beat - winning the ECL's first three league pennants, and earning two trips to the first-ever Colored World Series against the NNL's powerhouse Kansas City Monarchs - barely losing a best-of-nine series in 1924, but dominating in a five games-to-one title in 1925.   Darby lineups were frequently stocked with some of the top players of the era - including six eventual baseball National Baseball Hall of Famers: Oscar Charleston, "The Immortal" Martin Dihigo, "Pop" Lloyd, "Judy" Johnson, "Biz" Mackey, and Louis Santop.   Hilldale also made waning appearances in 1929's one-year American Negro League and 1932's East-West League as the economic strains of the Great Depression ultimately pushed the club into extinction.

In 1983 a mother named Judy Johnson accused teachers at a preschool in Manhattan Beach, California, of physically and sexually abusing her young son. A number of other employees, many of whom were related to the owner and founder of the school, were also named as perpetrators. As police began an investigation into the matter, Judy Johnson’s stories became more and more extreme, involving numerous other children, and suggesting what would later become known as “Satanic Ritual Abuse.” Problems acquiring physical evidence and reliable information from the children further inflamed the accusations against the school and its employees. What followed was the single most expensive and spectacular prosecutorial failure in United States history, as well-meaning law enforcement officials and child advocates became swept up in the “satanic panic” hysteria. How do we advocate for our children without succumbing to irrational fears about their safety? How do we avoid scapegoating others in a rush to justify our own feelings of anxiety? Join Drs. Micono and Morelos as they discuss the McMartin Trial.

Exactly 3 months later, the mother would make a call to police to report that her son had been molested by a member of staff at the school, 25 year old Ray Buckey. At one point in the case, it was announced the seven teachers at McMartin had committed 397 sexual crimes, which was in addition to the 115 counts they had already been charged with. Among experts, Oscar Charleston is regarded as the best player in Negro Leagues history. During his prime he became a legend in Cuba and one of black America’s most popular figures. Yet even among serious sports fans, Oscar Charleston is virtually unknown today. In a long career spanning from 1915 to 1954, Charleston played against, managed, befriended, and occasionally fought men such as Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, Jesse Owens, Roy Campanella, and Branch Rickey. He displayed tremendous power, speed, and defensive instincts along with a fierce intelligence and commitment to his craft. Charleston’s competitive fire sometimes brought him trouble, but more often it led to victories, championships, and profound respect. While Charleston never played in the Major Leagues, he was a trailblazer who became the first black man to work as a scout for a Major League team when Branch Rickey hired him to evaluate players for the Dodgers in the 1940s. From the mid‑1920s on, he was a player‑manager for several clubs. In 1932 he joined the Pittsburgh Crawfords and would manage the club many consider the finest Negro League team of all time, featuring five future Hall of Famers, including himself, Cool Papa Bell, Josh Gibson, Judy Johnson, and Satchel Paige. Jeremy Beer is a founding partner at American Philanthropic in Phoenix. He is the author of The Philanthropic Revolution: An Alternative History of American Charity and his writing on sports, society, and culture has appeared in the Washington Post, National Review, First Things, and the Baseball Research Journal. The DiamondNetwork is growing fast and I do not have the time or workers to help with all the work, and I have extended myself beyond measures. I need to take the time to focus on new shows and projects that I have coming up, this break will only be for a little while the show will be back live very soon. Monday’s guest podcast is about when I had the opportunity to speak with Judy Johnson of Lil Pops Barbeque sauce from September 2014. The sauce was being gobbled up all along Hampton Roads Va., Judy called into the show to talk to us about her saucy sauce and to give us some inspiring words and tips for those of you looking into manufacturing a product. Little Pops BBQ Sauce is no longer on the market and  Miss. Judy and her husband have retired they are no longer running the business . So don't go out looking for Little Pops BBQ sauce because you might not find it, I'm not sure if her emails are still working. Your going to hear her give out the contact information which I don't think is valid anymore. I hope you enjoy the show and I will be around in the networks, I will still be live Wednesday on the LJ Morning Sparkle show and Thursday nights on In the Cut with Jay. Stay tuned and keep in contact because I have a lot of good entertainment coming your way. This move will put me in a better position to focus on the projects I have coming and the music streaming LJDNRadio.com which I am looking forward to getting together.  Thank you for listening  and for your continued support I will see you in the networks.

This episode of the show follows a slightly different format from the usual long-form interviews. I'm talking all things elimination and by that I mean the unavoidable topic of cutting out particular food types. I'm not, for one second, suggesting that anybody cuts out either dairy, gluten or sugar without good reason - consulting a GP or nutritional therapist, for example, should be the first move. However, if it is a decision you have come to then this show features interviews with three real women who, for reasons of their health and/or wellbeing, have cut out either gluten, dairy or sugar.  The purpose of this podcast is to simplify what can be a bamboozling topic, not to promote the idea of making radical changes to one's diet. Judy Johnson from e-zine Get the Gloss. Before we get into the interviews I asked Judy Johnson (@jjjourno/@judy_jay) from Get the Gloss onto the show to talk about the rising 'noise' around clean eating movements, elimination and extreme diet regimes. If you're interested to hear her views on the recent Horizon documentary you can read them here >> Is Clean Eating Just the Scapegoat for our own Confused Relationship with Food? Layla talks changing taste buds... Talking about her reasons for and experience with cutting out dairy is Layla Randle-Conde (@laylabombayla) from Earth Zest Cosmetics. The unexpected side-effect of no longer consuming dairy is one I certainly hadn't expected... Scroll to 13:00 for my interview with Layla. More addictive than a Class A drug? Joining me to talk all things sugar is Emma Stavrinides (@moreliemoo/@emmastavrinides) whose experience of cutting out the sweet stuff when her health was threatened was featured in a Women's Health article here >> Real Life: I lost 4 stone in 9 months. Her perspective on looking at it as a lifestyle change, not a diet, is a useful one. Scroll to 27:30 for my chat with Emma. Tired of your tummy troubles..? Finally Lauren Naylor (@laurenpnaylor/www.laurenpatricia.com) opens up about her years of embarrassing IBS attacks and how cutting gluten from her diet made all the difference. If you've suffered with IBS - and Lauren doesn't hold back in her description of some of hers - then you may be interested in how cutting out gluten has helped her manage them. Scroll to 53:00 to hear Lauren's story. If you did catch the Horizon Documentary: Clean Eating the Dirty Truth you might like to read this piece by Zoe Harcombe (@zoeharcombe) on the Clean Eating Movement. As I've mentioned, this podcast does not support eliminating anything from your diet without first finding out if it's necessary. With the noise, confusion and sometimes conflicting information around the best diets, how to eat and what to avoid out there, what I'm supporting is the idea of being informed. ... Satanic Panic. August 12, 1983. Judy Johnson calls the Manhattan Beach police to report that the 25 year-old son of the owner of the McMartin preschool had molested her two and a half year-old son. In October of that year, Children's Institute International began interviewing potential victims of ritual, sexual abuse by employees of the school. By March, seven in all are charged with 115 counts of child sexual abuse. In the end, just two of them would face court and seven years and $15 million dollars later the entire prosecution of the members of the daycare center would end with a whimper. Who was Judy Johnson and why did she suspect her child had been molested? What did the children say happened at the school? What evidence did investigators uncover? Did the devil do it? Joel Osteen & Damien Echols are perceived as polar opposites, but just how big of a part do our perceptions play in this? How big of a role was the media and why?
