Today I'm chatting with Iris Hu from Light by Iris - She is an Award Winning Documentary and Lifestyle Photographer based In Portland, Oregon who is Ready to travel anywhere. Iris is also an educator - she teaches an online class with Illuminate and in person weekend retreat called Finding Heart. In this episode, Iris shares her unconventional approach to capturing authentic, meaningful images. She prioritizes spontaneity, shooting in dynamic environments and embracing the imperfections of real life—whether it's changing light, unpredictable weather, or everyday surroundings. Rather than relying on location scouting, styling, or golden hour perfection, she lets the environment and the natural light guide her creative process.Iris reflects on her introverted nature, favoring gentle direction and observation over staged, high-energy sessions. Her goal is to create images that evoke emotion and nostalgia, valuing subtle, quiet beauty over perfectly polished aesthetics. She celebrates the raw, unfiltered moments—like light streaming through dust or a neon fridge glow on a child's face—believing that these fleeting, imperfect details tell richer, more genuine stories. Throughout the conversation, she encourages fellow creatives to embrace flexibility, trust their instincts, and find inspiration in the ordinary. You can find all the information on her photography & workshops below! In this episode of Dads Who Try Tommy and Nate, are joined by fellow father Jon Taylor Sweet: "I am Wedding, Commercial, and Lifestyle Photographer here in the greater Seattle area! I love life, love coffee, and love to celebrate moments with the finest people. Married to my beautiful wife Caryn who makes every day a better day! We made a beautiful child together and her name is Maeve! I started taking photos on my iPhone in 2012 using Instagram as the vessel to share my work. After a couple years of shooting on my iPhone a friend gifted me a camera so I could jump into photography as a career. Was truly blessed to have people in my life that believed in me. With Instagram being a perfect platform to connect with people all over the world I began to realize how great the photo world really is. Being inspired to shoot weddings, shoot lifestyle content that provoked creativity, and to be in spaces in the commercial world that are uncomfortable(not a mountain in sight to help create "the bangerz"). In the last few years I have been fortunate enough to be apart of so many couples proposals, weddings, and even capturing photos to share that they are having a baby. I have been able to shoot album covers for friends which was a brand new experience. I have had the chance to shoot for massive marketing campaigns for companies that I never thought I would have had the chance to work with. More importantly photography has brought life long friendships with everlasting memories that I will be eternally grateful for. Capturing moments is something that I cherish and am so thankful for every opportunity. God is good! All the time! " Check out his work at jontaylorsweet.com

You don't have to look too far to see how often entrepreneurs who are practitioners of one kind or another transition to creating a mentoring business to help other practitioners in their field. I've done it (and love it!), and our guest today is another example of someone who has made the move from practitioner to mentor — and who has learned how to create a whole other thriving branch of her business. Sabrina Gebhardt started out as a lifestyle photographer, and she has built a very successful business around that gift. She started feeling the pull to come alongside other photographers and show them how to go from "starving artist" to "abundant entrepreneur." Et viola, the idea for a mentoring business was born. In November 2021, she joined the Success With Soul Incubator, and that's when her mentoring business really started to thrive. I think you're going to love her journey — especially if you're currently a practitioner who's looking to dip a toe into teaching/coaching others in your field, either as a way to transition completely (like I did) or to supplement/grow your business while you continue to practice your first love (like Sabrina is doing). What you'll learn in this episode: How and why Sabrina made the shift from lifestyle photographer to mentoring other photographers How she dealt with Imposter Syndrome when considering launching her first course How the Incubator has helped her skyrocket her success (and keep her balanced) The biggest challenges in choosing to keep her own photography biz while she's also building her mentoring business Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. If you liked what you heard, please leave an honest review for The Success with Soul Podcast on Apple Podcasts so we can improve and better serve you in the future. Nature-Based Systems ThinkingDavid and Laura Hertz — On Nature-Based Systems Thinking, on Resilient Communities through Design, on Their Award-Winning Atmospheric Water Sequestration Invention WEDEW, on the Democratization of Natural Resources, and on the Resilience Fund. ‘We live in a world of transitions between the fossil fuel and free world. There's no time to be apathetic and it's incredibly exciting to live in a time where investment being placed in incredible technologies that could help reverse the consequences we created. A world where we can see a distributed system and natural resources democratized. — David Hertz About David and Laura HertzDavid has been working at the edge of sustainability and the forefront of regenerative architecture for over 35 years. As a systems thinker, he engages a variety of fields through design and believes in expanding the conceptual limits of architecture.Throughout his career, David has connected the art of building with responsible stewardship of the Earth. A LEED accredited professional, he serves on the board of Heal The Bay and is a member of the City of Santa Monica's Task Force on the Environment. David taught sustainable design and mentored students at his alma mater, SCI-Arc, as well as Art Center College of Design and USC, and currently serves on the Academic Advisory Committee for UCLA's Extension Program. Laura is a storyteller, an environmentalist, a humanitarian, and a concerned citizen with the goal to educate and inspire to leave this planet a better place. A native Californian, Laura grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. She spent most of her childhood on the coast sailing. As a daughter of a commercial airline pilot and a wildly creative mother, Laura's lifelong passion for photography is the product of her traveling adventures around the world, discovering the visual beauty and intrigue of foreign lands, cultures, and customs. She worked as a Photojournalist for many publications and later as an Advertising and Lifestyle Photographer. In 2015, Laura and her husband David Hertz, co-founded Skysource, a social impact enterprise focused on creating deployable atmospheric water solutions that address all aspects of global water issues. She also serves on the board of The Bay Foundation, 501(c)(3) non-profit environmental group that restores and enhances The Santa Monica Bay through actions and partnerships that improve water quality, conserve and rehabilitate natural resources, and protect the Bay's benefits and values.. A lifelong passion for surfing has made David and Laura active in issues of water quality and access. ‘18% of Californian budget is pumping water across long distances – this is huge. Desalination plants and water movement are not the cleanest solutions. 0.22% of fresh water is contained in water vapor and we forget that there is 6 times more water vapor at any given time than there is in rivers and lakes. This happens to sit at the highest point of the water shed, and once extracted then cooled, water becomes extremely accessible and free.' says David Hertz.Together, David and Laura founded Skysource to democratize water, and their efforts culminated in winning the Water Abundance XPRIZE. Since then, they have focused on making communities more resilient through design. After the Woolsey Fire devastated their community, David has become committed to helping friends and neighbors rebuild their homes and lives. David is also the co-founder of Resilience Fund for Advancing Climate Technologies, focusing on water, food, energy, and carbon transformation technology solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Kerstin Ide is a Renowned Expert in Soul2Human Communication, Creative Media Producer & Lifestyle Photographer from Germany. She works with entrepreneurial inspired women during their midlife reset on reclaiming their authenticity in beauty, well-being, and purpose, and guiding them on a self-realization journey to develop their personal brand and turn their talents and passions into strong and lucrative business (ad)ventures. Kerstin was born into a poor and restrictive society that was unsupportive of building independent leaders, conditioning her to disregard her own ambitions in favor of supporting the success of others instead. She found herself again and again in the situation to put her needs and happiness on hold and focus all her time and labor force on being a super employee, with the result of 2 burnouts and losing her child and partner to self-sabotaging practices. At the pinnacle of these tragic events, she withdrew to process the loss and regain composure for her own life. Coming out of her own self-realization journey she created ‘My Next Step 101', a masterclass teaching the universal law on authentic self-love, personal growth, and focused breakthroughs into new dimensions of independent personal greatness and success. www.mynextstep101.com DO YOU WANT TO START WRITING YOUR BOOK? ✍️ Take my free 5-Day Writing Challenge: https://www.estherbuerki.com/writing-challenge ✍️ Find my free resources and online programs on my website: https://www.estherbuerki.com ✍️ Follow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/inspirationbyestherbuerki ✍️ Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/esther_buerki ✍️ Join me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/estherbuerki ✍️ Get in touch with me through e-mail: contact@swissmadestory.ch Esther Bürki SWISS MADE STORY Im Stumpen 7 8409 Winterthur Switzerland --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/esther-buerki/message

An old Canon film camera landed in my hands one family vacation to the iconic Yosemite National Park. I was hooked. The valley inspired me and I fell in love with the outdoors, fell in love with visual storytelling, and found what I was being called to do. But it wasn't until 2017, on a trip back to the valley of granite where I recognized I could make this my career. Growing up in Florida, I found myself dreaming of elsewhere. The whole world actually. After wrestling with the "what if's", I made the move to the opposite coast: California. Eager to grow in my craft, I strive to say yes to all I can, seek out collaboration with other ambitious creatives, and gather as many stories as I can from all walks of life. I was told something that has stuck with me throughout my short life thus far: "There's no comfort in the growth zone and no growth in the comfort zone."

EP15. In this episode I'm going to share 5 things I personally do in my business every Summer. For many creatives, Summer is the slow season, and it is tempting to let go of your regular business routines. But while the Summer often forces our goals and strategies to take a backseat, it might also prevent you from being in the driver's seat of your business going forward. This Summer you could choose to do things a little different to get ahead of the game, rather than just stay in the game. And while everyone is relaxing, you can continue to build your business without missing out on summer fun. EP07. When you are new to photography, it's normal to feel that finding a personal style is a mystery – that it´s something unreachable. You might even think that a personal style is only for those professional photographers who have “made it” and already have a thriving career. And while it is true that finding a personal style is something that takes time to develop, you can certainly speed up the process if you know what to do to get there. In this episode, I talk about finding a personal style in relation to photography, but no matter what type of creative work you do, you can use the same guidelines and techniques that I share, because the process and journey of uncovering your personal style are very similar. So no matter whether you´re creating jewellery, ceramics, graphic design, flower decorations, paintings, or something else, you will be able to transfer most of my tips onto your craft. All you have to do is imagine that you replace photography with your artwork. And, if you are an advanced photographer that already have a specific style but feel stuck in your current style, I also have some great tips for you in this episode.Christina Greve is a Lifestyle Photographer, Stylist, Empowerment Coach and Holistic therapist. EP05. When I started my photography career I made the jump from hobby photographer to fulltime photographer within a year. After working with psychology and running a successful coaching business for more than a decade, this was a scary decision to make back then. But at the same time, I had this artistic side in me that felt somehow neglected. When I finally got my first camera something inside of me instantly clicked and I was hooked and the urge to pursue photography became so consuming I couldn´t ignore it. For a while, I was doing therapy sessions during the day, and then I took pictures in the evenings and on weekends. In the end, I was running two full-time jobs and I knew I had to choose because doing both was too much and I needed more time with my family. So I chose photography, and I jumped. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. It was all learning by doing and I made so many mistakes along the way. And I´m going to share some of them with you today - raw and real....so I hope you are ready! If I'd only known the things I know now, my first few years as a photographer would have been much more productive and much less frustrating. EP03. In this episode, my goal is to shine some light on why creatives often fear self-promotion, and why overcoming this fear is an important key to your success. Because let´s be honest, you started a business NOT to make a charity but to actually make money, right. And to grow your business you need to show up, show who you are, and talk about what you offer. But what do you do if you struggle with the fear of self-promotion? Is it possible to overcome this fear? YES, it´s possible even for the most introvert and shy person. I believe that no matter where you are on your creative journey you have so much to offer to the world. My hope is that this episode will be the encouragement you need to step out of your hiding place and start showing up for yourself and your audience.Self-promotion makes us feel vulnerable and with that vulnerability arise feelings of insecurity and doubt. We doubt that what we offer or post on social media isn´t valuable enough, clever enough, or pretty enough. The truth is that the courage and the confidence to promote and market yourself is not something that suddenly appears. YOU have to evoke it and in this episode I share my best tips for how you can feel much more confident about promoting yourself and your business on social media.Christina Greve is a Lifestyle Photographer, Stylist, Empowerment Coach and Holistic therapist. EP01. Have you ever had the best intentions to go after a goal – a goal that you really wanted to achieve, only to let yourself down? Maybe you neglected your goal because life got busy and you got caught up in the daily grind. Or maybe reaching that goal was harder than you imagined so you gave up along the way. Or maybe you felt lack of motivation, lack of support from your surroundings, or lack of trust – trust that you actually had it in you to make it happen? It´s easy to feel like a failure when you promised yourself you would do something and then you didn´t. It´s easy to blame yourself for giving up because it didn´t go according to plan. And it sure is easy to get angry with yourself for not following through! The truth! It happens to ALL of us — especially when the new year is knocking on the door, and we are deciding on our New Years resolutions. So in this podcast episode I share the psychology behind setting goals successfully and I´m sharing a goal-setting frame work that actually works, so you can set goals and reach them with confidence and self-respect.Christina Greve is a Lifestyle Photographer, Stylist, Empowerment Coach and Holistic therapist.
