Bill Gebhardt from 10Dynamics discusses the intriguing intersection of market efficiency and systematic trading strategies. He emphasizes the idea that while traditional views suggest markets are efficient, many hedge funds continue to find success using price-based strategies that should theoretically not work. This paradox leads to a fascinating exploration of the psychological aspects of trading, particularly how human behavior can create opportunities for systematic traders. Gebhardt shares insights on the operational complexities of running a nearly continuous trading process, utilizing intraday data, and employing a diverse range of signals. The conversation explores the risks of underfitting versus overfitting in trading models, ultimately advocating for a strategy that embraces empirical success without excessive optimization.-----50 YEARS OF TREND FOLLOWING BOOK AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO FOR ACCREDITED INVESTORS - CLICK HERE-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “Ten Reasons to Add Trend Following to Your Portfolio” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Moritz on Linkedin.Follow Bill on X.Episode TimeStamps: 02:17 - Introduction to Bill Gebhardt06:35 - No pain, no gain08:40 - Why are they called 10Dynamics?10:08 - What is their philosophy behind how markets work?12:24 - Are the signals that they run based on trend following?13:47 - How they handle the operational complexity of their system18:15 - How they assess the validity of their data20:39 - Exploring the technical details behind the execution of their...

In this episode, Kim and Mary interview Sabrina Gebhardt with Sabrina Gebhardt Photography, a talented photographer, educator, and entrepreneur, who shares her journey from corporate America to launching a thriving photography business. Sabrina discusses how she balances motherhood, creative growth, business expansion, and personal well-being, offering valuable insights for aspiring creatives and entrepreneurs.Sabrina's passion for photography began early in life, growing up with parents who valued the art form. Her mother captured family moments, while her father focused on landscapes, both of which inspired her love for photography. However, she set the camera aside during college and a corporate career, only to rediscover her passion after the birth of her first child. Her journey into photography evolved organically, starting with capturing moments of her children, which soon led to friends requesting photos. Over time, Sabrina turned this passion into a business. As her photography business grew, she realized the importance of delegating tasks and hired support for administrative work, such as invoicing and editing. Outsourcing allowed her to reclaim joy in her craft while balancing business growth and personal life. This shift in mindset not only enhanced her well-being but also improved the quality of her work.Eight years into her photography career, Sabrina expanded into education and mentorship, which now forms a significant part of her business including mentorship programs, mastermind courses, retreats, and even launched her podcast, Shoot it Straight. Sabrina's approach to education is not about teaching others to replicate her style but about empowering creatives to embrace their unique artistic voices.A key theme throughout Sabrina's story is her adaptability. She emphasizes the importance of aligning your business with the different seasons of life. As her family's needs changed, she modified her business to fit those shifts, ensuring she could be present for her children while maintaining a thriving career. This flexibility has been instrumental in her personal and professional success.Sabrina also touches on the importance of financial planning and legacy building. For her, success is not just about artistic achievement but also about creating a financial foundation for her children's futures. Drawing on advice from her mother, Sabrina emphasizes the importance of maintaining an identity outside of motherhood. She wants her children to understand that they, too, can create fulfilling lives that align with their passions.Throughout the conversation, Sabrina stresses that business should be fun and fluid, evolving naturally over time. She encourages entrepreneurs to experiment, take risks, and listen to their intuition when making decisions. By embracing change, setting boundaries, and trusting herself, Sabrina has built a business that supports her creative vision and personal happiness. Also, if you haven't done so already, follow our podcast! Leaderboard to Leadership with Rebecca Gebhardt & Marcus Cauchi Summary: This episode offers more than a sales leadership lesson—it's a blueprint for transformation. Rebecca and Marcus challenge outdated thinking about leadership, relationships, and what it means to truly succeed in sales. Packed with insight and wisdom, it's a wake-up call for anyone ready to lead with purpose and intention. Rebecca Gebhardt's Leaderboard to Leadership doesn't pull any punches: promoting your top salesperson doesn't make them a leader. Leadership isn't just the next step up from closing deals—it's a completely different game, and most people aren't prepared to play it. Without the right training and mindset, you're not offering them a promotion—you're setting them up to fail. This episode goes deeper than your standard sales talk. Rebecca and Marcus cut right to the core: real relationships. Not the transactional kind that evaporate once the contract is signed, but the ones built on trust and understanding—the relationships that last. Their message is crystal clear: if you don't understand what your customer actually needs, you've already lost them. Marcus brings the heat with AI, but not in the way you'd expect. Forget about AI as a flashy tool; Marcus shows how it can be a brutal mirror, reflecting your blind spots and challenging your assumptions. It's not about the tech—it's about seeing yourself clearly and growing from it. Then there's Marcus's golden rule: "sell hot, not cold." If you're wasting your time on cold calls and hard pitches, you're missing the point. Warm leads—relationships you've already nurtured—are the real opportunities. This isn't just about closing the next deal; it's about creating something that scales and sustains success. Rebecca hits on the mindset leaders need to succeed: “abundant, bold, curious.” Leadership isn't about resting on your past wins. It's about staying hungry, constantly learning, and pushing even when you think you've arrived. It's this mindset that gets you to the top—and keeps you there. But Marcus takes a step back to show the big picture: Sales alone won't cut it. To win, you need every part of your business—procurement, customer success, finance, operations, the Board, all of it—aligned around what the customer actually wants to accomplish. Silos are where good people are sent to die, too often chasing the wrong metrics for the sake of numbers. That's how you burn relationships and your reputation. The reality? Chasing numbers isn't leadership. Building relationships is. Metrics might feel good in the short term, but if they come at the expense of trust, you've already lost the long game. Leaderboard to Leadership (out 20th Sept 2024) isn't a roadmap—perhaps it's your antidote to mediocrity. It's a guide to transforming potential into performance, not by accident, but by intention. Rebecca doesn't hand you shortcuts; she gives you the tools to build leaders who can thrive—not just survive. Stop floundering and start leading with purpose. What's the Ally Method™? If you're tired of promoting your top sellers only to watch them stagnate, it's time to change the narrative. With the ALLY Method™, I'll show you how the difference between stagnation and transformation is the story you tell yourself. Together, we'll rewrite that story and turn potential into performance—deliberately, not by accident. Let's have a conversation. Contact me, marcus@laughs-last.com, today, and I'll show you how coaching and training can elevate your team. If you're ready to break silos, lead with intention, to build something lasting, the bright path is right here. Let's walk it together.

“Taking initiative pays off. It is hard to visualize someone as a leader if she is always waiting to be told what to do.” – Sheryl Sandberg. I have shared the Gallup Global Workplace Surveys about employee engagement at work over the years. Well, a new study just came out, and it's not good! The study shows that 33 percent of American workers describe their work experience as meaningful or engaging. Let that sink in for a moment—77% are not engaged! I want to break this down even further. This translates to approximately 107 million working Americans who describe themselves as “unengaged.” Additionally, 17 percent of all US workers describe themselves as “actively disengaged.” That's 22 million workers. Gallup estimates the global cost of disengagement at work to be 9 percent of the world's GDP. Since the global GDP is about $100 trillion, the lost opportunity cost is around $9 trillion. Before I introduce my guest, I would like to share with you one more perspective on these results. What does this say about the human cost? What's the human impact of decades of unengaging work for 107 million Americans? According to Gallup's 2024 survey, 41 percent of all US workers report experiencing “a lot of stress at work.” So now we are talking about unengaging and stressful work. If you are a leader and don't know where your organization's employees fall within this study, you may want to take notes and see what can be done to change this landslide. In todays episode, Jeff Malec sits down with Bill Gebhardt, the founder of 10 Dynamics, to discuss his interesting career journey and the development of his unique systematic trading approach. Bill shares his background, from working on the floor of the CBOE in the early 90s to earning a PhD in finance and transitioning into the energy trading space. He provides insights into the evolution of the commodity markets, including the rise and fall of Enron, and the challenges of maintaining an edge in fundamental trading. The conversation then delves into Bill's transition to systematic trading, sparked by his exposure to a successful systematic team at his previous firm, Trailstone. This led him to develop the 10 Dynamics model, which is built on 10 core signals that closely mirror Bill's own decision-making process as a trader. Bill explains his "allergic to optimization" philosophy and the benefits of using multiple time frames to generate positions. He also discusses the importance of risk management, operational efficiency, and adapting to changing market conditions. Throughout the episode, Bill shares his unique perspective on the markets, the role of human behavior, and the future of systematic trading. In this episode I speak with Bill Gebhardt, founder of 10Dynamics.Bill spent the better part of his career as a discretionary energies trader, with roles at Koch Industries, Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, and Trailstone. In May 2020 he struck out on his own to co-found 10Dynamics.Given Bill's fundamental and discretionary background, it may come as a surprise that 10Dynamics runs a fully systematic process. This dichotomy serves as the foundation for much of our conversation, where Bill provides insight into where and how his discretionary background informs the systematic process, both from a signal and a risk management perspective. We discuss the types of signals 10Dynamics incorporates into their process, how their risk management system is designed to reflect Bill's experience managing discretionary traders, and how they've designed their operational risk management to allow them to trade intraday with a small team. Please enjoy my conversation with Bill Gebhardt.
