Aprila lani so v Mladinskem klimatskem zdravilišču Rakitna zagnali prvi tako imenovani detox za zdravljenje digitalne odvisnosti. 3-tedenski program je namenjen mladostnikom, starim od 13 do 19 let. Jean-Michel ist Inhaber und Geschäftsführer der JM Moreillon Import und Handels GmbH und von der JM Holzkultur. Jean-Michel hat ursprünglich Schreiner gelernt und sich durch die ganze Schreinerwelt hindurchgearbeitet, vom Schreiner an der Bank bis zum Service Monteur und dann auch im administrativen Bereich vom Sachbearbeiter hin zum Leiter Innendienst. Danach betreute er in einer Firma für Schwedenöfen die Westschweiz im Verkaufsaussendienst. Vor etwa 1.5 Jahren entdeckte er per Zufall nach dem Logout aus dem Bankensystem eine Werbung von einem Business-Broker, welcher Firmen verkauft. Dort entdeckte er eine Schreinerei, welche zum Verkauf angeboten wurde. Der Preis war attraktiv und so holte er die nötigen Infos ab und irgendwann wurde das Projekt konkret und die Entscheidung musste gefällt werden. Der aktuelle Arbeitgeber wurde informiert und die Finanzierungsfrage musste ebenfalls angegangen werden. Nachdem auch dies geklärt war, war der Kauf perfekt und Jean-Michel besass nun eine Schreinerei.

Priporočila za starše o iskanju zdravega razmerja med analogno in digitalno komunikacijo oz. preživljanju prostega časa na spletu in brez njega, so pripravili v Centru pomoči pri prekomerni rabi interneta Logout. Zadnje tedne je precejšen del naših dejavnosti, delo, izobraževanje in tudi prosti čas, povezan s spletom, ki nam vse to tudi omogoča. Brez nove tehnologije ne gre, še posebno v teh časih, a ločiti moramo med delom ob pomoči nove tehnologije in zabavo, ki lahko tudi zasvoji. Miha Kramli je terapevt in vodja Centra za zdravljenje zasvojenosti v zdravstvenem domu v Novi Gorici, v katerem obravnavajo tudi nekemične zasvojenosti, torej odvisnike od interneta, iger, spletnih omrežij. Te dni terapij ne izvajajo, a vseeno ljudje iščejo pomoč po telefonu, saj ta položaj, v katerem smo, lahko osvetli prav nekemične zasvojenosti tudi pri otrocih in mladostnikih. Spletni test, s katerim lahko preverite, ali so vaši otroci po malem že zasvojeni z videoigricami, so pripravili v Centru pomoči pri prekomerni rabi interneta LOGOUT, v katerem so svoje svetovanje in informiranje preselili na splet in so tako še vedno na voljo za svetovanje in pomoč.

Digitalne tehnologije zadnjih 10 let obvladujejo naša življenja in z marsikaterega gledišča so ga izboljšale. Danes na spletu v enem samem dnevu dobimo toliko podatkov, kot so jih nekoč v dveh letih. Računalnik je dobro orodje in pomagalo, lahko pa tudi zasvoji in takrat postane orožje, usmerjeno proti uporabniku. Zasvojenost je beseda, ki se zadnja leta velikokrat pojavlja prav v zvezi z računalnikom in internetom – ne le pri odraslih, pač pa tudi pri mladostnikih in otrocih. Več kot 60 odstotkov otrok danes prosti čas namesto v resničnem svetu preživi v virtualnem. V naši edini ambulanti v okviru zdravstvenega sistema, v kateri se ukvarjajo tudi z nekemičnimi zasvojenci, kot so odvisni od hitre vožnje, interneta, stav, računalniških igric in celo lepotičenja, obravnavajo celo več nekemičnih zasvojencev kot kemičnih. Več kot 37 odstotkov staršev najstnikov, ki jih imajo v ambulanti, je doživelo nasilje zaradi prepovedi uporabe sodobnih tehnologij. V centru pomoči pri pretirani rabi interneta in sodobnih tehnologij LOGOUT pa so imeli tudi primer, ko je fant po več kot 70-urnem nepretrganem igranju računalniške igre potreboval hospitalizacijo.

Problem: Immediately Starting out with fancy logos or intros FIX: Start out with a cold open, something that grabs the attention of the viewer and hooks them. Then have your branding Problem: Music too loud FIX: Set your levels and listen back to this. Ask does the music need to be there, and if so turn the volume down. You will know when you listen back Problem: Poor audio or unable to be hear FIX: Ensure you have a good microphone and gain set your levels so that you can be heard within the video Problem: Breathing over the microphone a lot FIX: This is classic from people with integrated headsets and microphones. Lower or raise the microphone away from your breathing zone and stop this annoying breathing into the microphone. Problem: Video recording beside a window FIX: if you do this, then you may be hard to see and the white balance will be off. Problem: messy background FIX: Look at your recording area if it is a talking head and tidy it up. Nobody wants to see your messy room or even worse, your dirty laundry Problem: messy desktop FIX: This is a classic for many people recording their screens. You can hide desktop icons in your computers and make it appear clean. Problem: making people sit and watch you type urls etc FIX: People do not need to sit and watch you typing out urls. either have them already typed or if you are recording, then edit it so that people don't have to watch the full thing. Trust me, they WILL Get it if you start typing and it jumps to it typed and the page is loading Problem: not having your tabs prepared in advance FIX: Plan ahead and open all necessary tabs and accounts as this will also save you from having to log into sites if you have already done so in your tabes you prepared before hitting record. Problem: having Skype on whilst recording FIX: I see this all of the time, you either can see overtime a friend logs onto SKYPE or messages them one recent video even had someone trying to call them whilst they were recording. LOG OUT of this and others when recording Problem: Mobile phone ringing or texting in the background FIX: I have also watched many videos where text messages or even phone calls happen during the training. I have even had one where they didn't edit out the call! Problem: not being able to see smaller details when explaining something FIX: sometimes it is harder to see smaller details on a page when recording your screen. Learn to zoom in on these details as some people need to see this and it saves them from struggling or having to rewatch the same portion of the video repeatedly. Simply learn to zoom when needed. Problem: poor lighting FIX: it a talking head video you need to be seen. If you do not have enough natural light, then look at turning on lights or even investing in purpose built lighting for your videos recording. This is also true for some people with webcams. It is hard to see you. Turn a little light on

From time to time, every business will have hurdles to overcome. Have you ever had one of those weeks that you just want to sweep under the rug and forget ever happened? Me too. In fact, that's how last week went for me. But instead of letting it go, I've decided to share my hurdles with you in this episode of the Resourceful Designer podcast. My week from hell My week started off like any other until I received a phone call from a website client. There was a problem with their site. Members couldn't log out. I had recently migrated their website from a Windows server to a Linux server and thought perhaps something had happened in the move. I told them I'd look into it and got to work. This should have been a warning sign but it took me roughly 5 hours to find and fix the problem. A problem that should have only taken me two minutes if I had just looked. I spent hours combing through code trying to find the issue when it turns out the Logout button had the wrong URL associated with it. Other than some wasted time that issue wasn't so bad. Then on Wednesday I received an email from a client asking me when their new website would be launched. This one took me by surprise because I thought I had already launched it two weeks prior. But then I remembered that I had encountered a database error while migrating their site from my staging server to its permanent home, and had decided to put off the launch until the next day. Somehow it slipped my mind the following morning, and two weeks later I'm being asked by the client for an ETA. I quickly launched their site, but in the process, I forgot that this particular client runs their own internal email server and I didn't update the proper MX records to account for it. To make a long story short (I go into all the details in the podcast), I broke their email and it took several hours the next day to get it working again. Unfortunately, this client relies heavily on email for their business and having it down for several hours cost them thousands of dollars in revenue. All because of my mistake. Needless to day, I felt terrible. Sick to my stomach in fact. But what could I do? The damage was done and I had to move on. Overcoming Hurdles Sometimes in business things will derail you. It's up to you to decide how you'll proceed. Will you stop? Or will you overcome those hurdles? You have to realise that these hurdles are only a drop in the pond when you look at your business as a whole. They may seem scary when they happen but in the long run they won't affect your business as much as you initially think they will. What Hurdles Have You Overcome?
