With over 1.9 billion users globally, TikTok is the entertainment juggernaut that is impossible to ignore. And in 2023, its users in the UK spent more time on average on the platform than any other video platform - including Netflix. But how can film marketing professionals effecfively leverage TikTok to engage audiences in our releases? Nikolaj Mathies stands out as one of the few marketing professionals who have worked with a diverse array of film distributors across Europe and America to promote their films online. To date, he has contributed to well over 300 theatrical releases in more than 30 different countries. From the onset of his career, he has dedicated himself to developing innovative strategies for how theatrical films and their digital promotions can transform audiences from mere consumers to active participants and co-creators. In 2022, Nikolaj founded Vievo, a content and creator agency that aims to bridge the gap between traditional feature film trailers and the unprecedented volume of user-generated content that the industry is currently witnessing. He envisions a realm of opportunities for film producers—the world's best storytellers—to extend their narratives beyond the big screen and into the rapidly evolving domain of social media platforms, with a particular emphasis on entertainment-centric ones like TikTok. The era where the industry could simply condense a film into a trailer or a cut-down is over. In the fierce competition for consumer attention, it is essential to engage audiences with authentic and fan-centric content that doesn't necessarily originate from the feature film itself.

Men hvorfor?
Vi starter med den første Indiana Jones 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' og bevæger os derfra op gennem årtierne og rundt over hele verden med blockbusterhits som 'The Mummy', 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl', 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' og 'The Lost City'.
On the show today are two Mathies who overwhelmingly convince Catherine and Steve that Mathing is a creative endeavor, despite it's bad wrap in the creative world. Jason Hartline is a Computer Science Professor at Northwestern University, and works in the world of teaching applied mathematics and his path has taken him through Cornell University and the University of Washington, with stops at Microsoft and Harvard. He has a couple patents under his belt and too many publications and papers to mention in polite company. Jana Frank's work is equally impressive and important, as she optimizes learning in another corner of the math universe. Jana is an owner of four Chicagoland Mathnasiums and expert in the Mathnasium Philosophy, that stands behind a very successful and effective math-only learning center for kids in grades Pre-K through 12. Mathnasium's approach is all about helping kids really understand math by making it fun. This takes significant understanding and creativity. Previously, Jana taught math in Jr high as well as 4th and 5th grade in the Chicago Public Schools. She has degrees in developmental psychology and a Masters in education. In this episode we learn that Jason and Jana are amazing and create in the world of circus and aerial arts. But today, rather than dig into their high-flying circus work, we explore creativity through the math lens. Both Catherine and Steve learn just how creative one can be in math with the help of two experts who you will soon learn, bring incredible passion to their work. Additionally, both Catherine and Steve reveal new sides of themselves suggesting that grabbing their strings and flying their kites in the way similar to that of Jason and Jana is not completely out of the question. I want you to think about the last time you had to hire someone? How much of the process was designed to make sure you found the right person for your unique school or was it similar to every other school in your district. If there is one thing I’ve learned over my years as a site leader, it's that the recruiting and hiring process is everything and our guests today are great examples of how the process can change your school. Today we are talking to Dr. Marcia Carmichael-Murphy a principal in Louisville, Kentucky and her Assistant Principal Dr. LaRhonda Mathies. They are going to share about their process as they look for anti-racist educators to join their team. You will hear some of the key things they listen for and what they don’t want to hear. They will also share strategies to support and retain their new hires during those challenging new teacher years.

In a week where a tweet about a London pub went viral after a member of staff told a customer “we don’t serve disabled people”, meet the Mathies. Ben Mathie loves live music but venue options are limited because he’s only 12-years-old and uses a wheelchair and venues are often inaccessible. He was a regular at gigs in the local pub, The Harrow Inn Freehouse in Boughton, Nottinghamshire, before plans were made to shut it down. Then, in an unexpected move to save Ben's favourite venue, his mum and dad gave up their farm shop and took over the pub. Ben now has the important role of Events Manager and books all the live acts at the pub to ensure it’s as inclusive and welcoming as possible. Presented by Emma Tracey. When our troops are in the field and need medical treatment, a mortar and brick hospital isn't available for wounded soldiers to seek help. In the unfortunate event a person is injured, that person will visit a medic who is out in the field typically under a medical tent that may have gurneys, triage supplies and limited medication. During our live broadcast from the MAPS Museum, in this podcast, we discuss what it’s like to be a medic in the field and explore a real-life replica of a medic tent on display at MAPS.

Joking around with customers can improve satisfaction, as long as its the right jokes! Zeetz Jones/Flickr, CC BY-SAAs part of a research team, Christine Mathies from the University of New South Wales Business School stood outside a suburban retailer (who had volunteered to be part of the study) and quizzed customers who came out on their experience and satisfaction. They knew one of the employees was a bit of a joker, and were trying to see whether humour made a difference to customers. It turns out humour can be useful in increasing customer satisfaction, even if your customer is a grouch. But it’s only certain types of humour, Mathies says. If an employer jokingly brags or jokes about something else like the weather, that has better outcomes than making self-deprecating jokes. In separate research, they also found humour can be good for the employees themselves, as it relieves tension in difficult situations and the stress of constant interaction with customers. However, when it comes to service failures, they discovered employees should steer clear of using any jokes when offering apologies or compensation, as it comes across as inappropriate.

Extinctions in Near Time: Biodiversity Loss Since the Pleistocene
Why has the Pacific Island of Guam gone from sounding…like this...to a little more like this... Hello again everyone! My name is Joseph, and today I’m reporting to you all from the always beautiful Stanford University. Before we dive in, first a little about me. You see, I was born on the island of Guam 18 years ago. The silence you got a brief glimpse of is extremely concerning for me. Many species of animals on Guam have disappeared forever- that’s the silence. For my generation of Guamanians, this pestilent silence has nowadays become common place. Sixty years ago my grandfather would have heard all of those beautiful birds. Where.have.they.gone? Why has the island of Guam become a quieter place?! Ope! And it looks like we have caller! You're live caller #1, what do you have to say on the subject? YARRRRRRR Oh goodness me, not again. Make it quick captain yosef. I have the answer to your question!!! NOW... Come with me across the Pacific to peer at the answer in the form of an evolutionarily gifted predator. It looks *pause* like this: It has…large unblinking eyes… elliptical pupils. It is the perfect hunter who, lacking appendages, will strike, and constrict its prey with its body. Then it will chew…and chew with its venomous rear fangs… until the helpless victim is poisoned, and ready for consumption. OOOOOK, that's enough from you. He's spot on though What is this tank of nature? It’s the Brown Tree Snake. The Brown Tree Snake’s home is Papua New Guinea and Northern and Eastern Coastal Australia. However, it has found new home. Research estimates that around the late 1940s, the Brown Tree snake was inadvertently transported in a cargo ship to the Island of Guam where it quickly found an abun dance of defenseless prey. The Brown Tree Snake targeted nearly every animal on Guam, including Guam’s 13 native forest birds. Of those 13 bird species, only 3 species of birds have survived. The lone bird you hear now is the Mariana crow. The last female crow on Guam died earlier this year, and there are only two male crows left. We can’t let this silence spread across the Pacific to other islands. We, the public, must express our concerns about our beloved islands across the Pacific to let Governments know that we strongly support policies that control Brown Tree Snake populations, and prevent the Brown Tree Snake from being inadvertently transported once again. So far, trapping snakes has been the most successful way to protect what birds remain. Proposed ideas like introducing predators to eat the Brown Tree Snakes hold little value since there are no other predators on Guam to eat those predators in turn. For example, if a predator like the mongoose were brought to Guam to eat the snakes, then Guam would just have a mongoose problem in place of its snake problem. With that in mind, the greatest thing that Guam and other pacific islands can do (and have done) is invest in Brown Tree Snake prevention. Prevention measures are easy to enact--- Simple measures that include inspecting ship cargo, and any kind of shipment in and out of Pacific islands. Everything aside though, we need to step back and realize that we can’t see the Brown Tree Snake as an evil animal. It is our fault, not the fault of the Brown Tree Snake, that Guam’s birds have become extinct. The animals of Guam, and the Brown Tree Snake played according to the rules--- they have all been living to the best of their abilities in their environments. And just because the Brown Tree Snake can do its job incredibly well, we can’t fault this skilled hunter for success. You are the future, and now that you know how our simple, human mistakes impact the natural world, I invite you to remain conscious of human interaction with living and non-living environments. Collectively, it is an educated and conscious human population that will tend towards harmony with nature. Thank you for listening. References Stophlet, John J. 1946. Birds of Guam.
