Kirsty is an accredited Analytical Hypnotherapist, and for over 35 years has been helping people through their problems. With a degree in Psychology, she uses this as an insight into the way the subconscious mind interprets the world. Hypnotherapy delves deep into the subconscious mind and can help to achieve a more balanced and less harmful way of reacting to the world around us. Recalling his own experiences as a client, John and Kirsty explore what hypnotherapy is (and what it's not), as well as how the mind quite often gets it wrong and inflicts us with fears, anxieties, habits and behaviours that limit our enjoyment of life and hold us back.Find out more about Kirsty and her work at http://www.kirstyhypnotherapy.co.uk.Follow us on Instagram @themenwho_ to see what we're up to and engage with us online. Welcome to Episode 13 of ‘The Men Who: Talk'. This week we're sharing with you a little aid we occasionally use in our men's talking circles to bring fresh, but not necessarily new, perspective into our conversation. To complement our words, on occasion, we've turned to a little but much loved that provides solace and perspective. The book is called The Poetry Pharmacy, and it's by an author called William Sieghart. The best way to describe The Poetry Pharmacy is as a light compendium of poetry and verse that Sieghart has collected over the course of his career in publishing and the arts. Alongside each poem is a short essay or passage on what that poem means to the author, on the themes that it explores and the message, or messages, it presents to the reader. Tying together both poem and essay, Sieghart has attributed a mental or emotional wellbeing experience to each, chosen on the basis that the words within can act as a balm or a remedy for many of life's most common conditions. Together, he calls these words ‘prescriptions for the heart, mind and soul'. In this episode John shares two of these ‘prescriptions' with you, each one relevant to our group at The Men Who: but also to the prevailing narrative of today's complex and uncertain world. Whether you choose to read it privately or share it with your own community, we're certain that it will bring you just a little bit of inner peace and help quieten the nature of the mind. This aspect of the show has been invariably fascinating and contains a huge amount of personal wisdom, experience and guidance on how to actively manage the mind. Episode 11 brings together the best of this wisdom as a compilation of our guests' questions and answers. It truly feels like our guests are in conversation with one another, which is exactly the point of this recurring feature and something we'll revisit at each milestone in the future. Welcome to Episode 9 of ‘The Men Who: Talk'. Today we're joined by Frederick Maitland, a counsellor, psychotherapist and founder of Stoneriver Therapy. In this episode we address the often difficult topic of death and dying. Having made its way out of our societal conversation in recent decades, we discuss what death means in today's western culture, how we can positively engage with the dying process whilst we're still alive, and what people can do to assist loved ones who are experiencing death in their own lives. With a background in Integrative/Transpersonal Therapy and Shamanic Counselling, Frederick uses his professional training and experience to help people address current issues, to develop and grow as a human being and to free ourselves up from the past and more fully express our potential. With experience working in hospice environments, he also helps people of many different cultures and beliefs work through their loss and/or preparation for loss of a loved one, as well as assisting in care to terminally ill patients. His work can be of great assistance during a time of deep and potentially challenging transition, helping people find solace and peace.Find out more about Frederick and his work at http://www.stonerivertherapy.com.Follow us on Instagram @themenwho_ to see what we're up to and engage with us online.
