Anyone who has been on a hospital ward, whether as clinician, patient, or visitor, has noticed the continual din of beeps and chirps—it can drive you crazy. It's notable that one of the simple ways Rauland‘s communication system improves the hospital experience is to reduce noise by routing alerts quietly to the person who needs to handle them. Another key benefit of using Rauland, according to Director of Product Management Joseph DeLisle, is that it checks the content of a call or alert and directs it to the right person. For instance, if the patient is just asking for a pillow, the call goes to a technician instead of a nurse. This relieves the nurses of trivial tasks and lets them “practice at the top of their licenses.” Michelle Allen, Vice President and General Manager at Rauland, says that the emerging crisis in nurse burnout and resignations is caused partly by having new administrative burdens with inadequate support from IT systems. (She cites other factors as well, such as bigger workloads, sicker patients, and safety concerns.) Hospitals are always deploying new technologies, and these often increase the burden of recording and sharing data unless they are all integrated. When Michelle Allen joined us on the podcast, we were excited to dive into her perspective on launching her company Mother Culture. The origins of the company are rooted in her own family's struggles in curing some severe allergies and illness. From the start of the conversation, we knew Michelle was going to bring a wealth of knowledge. She taught us all about:- Why Raw Milk is healthy?- How to cure allergies?- Why food is medicine?- How to heal the gut with food?- How to start cooking nourishing meals for kids?- How to take risks in business?- What is the Weston A Price Foundation?- What is the GAPS Diet and why is the GAPS Diet so good for gut health? We spent a lot of time discussing the risks she took in starting her business. As a mother of 7, she went all in on her business and spent nearly every penny she had on her first piece of equipment (the one she still uses today). Whether you are looking to learn more about entrepreneurship or the power of healthy foods, you will absolutely enjoy this episode!SPONSORS The Carnivore Bar - 10% OFF - Delicious & convenient Pemmican Bar Fond Bone Broth - 15% OFF - REAL bone broth with HIGH-QUALITY ingredients! Actors can often see CDs as faceless, soulless gate-keepers with the potential to grant wishes or kill dreams. This perception is not only wrong, but it's bad for an actor's business. Casting directors are human beings who, like you, often struggle to do good work in an emotionally violent industry. In fact, the humanity of casting directors- their ability to be emotionally affected, to be moved- is often the reason an actor gets a callback and gets cast. Actors must believe then and constantly remind themselves that casting directors have the capacity to be emotionally moved by their work. This discussion with Michelle Allen and the story of how and why she walked away is a great reminder. Email us at info@bramongarciabraun.com and comment on our IG posts!

Executive orders aimed at driving down greenhouse-gas emissions are still not enough to reach North Carolina's 50% reduction goal by 2030, a report by the Environmental Defense Fund found. The report showed under current state policies, North Carolina is on track to shrink emissions by 28% to 38%, far below its target. Michelle Allen, project manager of North Carolina political affairs for the Environmental Defense Fund, said there are ways to get back on track, including aggressively building greener infrastructure for electric power and public transportation. "The electric power and the transportation sectors account for nearly 70% of the state's overall climate solutions," Allen pointed out. "Those are going to be the top two, really most critical, sectors to focus on." The governor's executive orders require reducing energy consumption in state-owned buildings and increasing the number of zero-emission vehicles on the roads. Allen explained North Carolina's utility commission, which is responsible for regulating electric utilities, is also in the process of developing a carbon plan. "Which is going to outline how the electric-power sector is going to drive down climate pollution in line with these 2030 and 2050 targets," Allen noted. According to the state's Department of Environmental Quality, poor air quality is largely driven by vehicle emissions triggering ground-level ozone or smog, and particle pollution. Allen added taking steps to curb emissions will improve residents' health, especially those who are most vulnerable. "The next step after that is to determine the policy solutions and programs that are going to get us to achieve those goals," Allen asserted. Research shows on a local level, air pollution from manufacturing and industry is most commonly concentrated in low-income neighborhoods and communities of color. When I received the gift of a second hand book. that was written by a very special American friend of ours, Jane Maas who had since passed and I found a note in the book I was very curious. This treasured book, signed by the author came with a note from the store owner, Michelle Allen from the Bad Reputation Boutique, a vintage clothing store in New Jersey - this was bizarre!! I tracked the store and Michelle down in January of this year hoping to learn more and we had a really interesting chat about the book, her business and even Donald Trump as it was in the immediate aftermath of the Capital riots.
