Originally from the Hudson Valley in New York State, artist Michael Johnathon  moved to the border town of Laredo, TX to work at KLAR-AM. At the urging of folk singer Pete Seeger, he then moved to Mousie, Kentucky in the Appalachian mountains to learn folk tradition and music. He began his folk career performing at schools and fairs and touring with established artists including David Gates, Odetta, Janis Ian, Tom Paxton, Billy Dean and Judy Collins. "Yeah," said Addison. "It's been a little lonely since we moved here. There's a girl at school named Rani who I've gotten to know a little. I'm hoping we'll become good friends." Addison looked at her mom. "That reminds me--Rani invited me to come with her to something called vacation Bible school at her church in a few weeks. Can I go?""I think that would be fine, once I talk to Rani's parents," Mom said.Addison nodded. "Rani told me she learns about Jesus at church. She said He's her best friend. The Purple Day Podcast is the audio from our Monday episodes of Storytime in the Schoolhouse. Please note: Storytime is written and recorded for the screen. Some elements of Storytime will transfer better than others. Every Purple Day, or Monday, we are inside the schoolhouse for circle time and storytime. During circle time, we learn seasonal songs and poems together. This week, we learn new lines and words to our poems, making our circle time slightly longer than last week. We also practice a mindful breathing exercise. This month we are learning Bumblebee Breathing. After circle time, we hear a story together. The second week of each month, we hear a pedagogical tale, sometimes called a teaching tale. These stories address an upcoming change, difficult event, or challenging behavior. Today we hear the story of Maisie's New Mousie, about a little mouse who learns a new mousie sibling will soon join their family.
