In this episode we talk to CEO & Founder of Love Out Loud about Love and the role it can play in the maximising human potential and happiness. Not love in the romantic sense but as the opposite of fear. We explore the three systems at play in our day to day experience including the nervous system, emotive system and your cognitive function and how these impact our ability as individuals and collectively to be open to new ideas, other people's experience and personal growth generally.A fascinating conversation that covers philosophy, change and our sense of self and ego and how we become attached to our identity and our inability to let go holds back our potential for growth and this in turn impacts our ability to collectively solve large problemsSo what to do? Well technology is both a large source of the problem and potentially part of the solution. Nicole spells out how the brain technologies we have used to understand people's emotive state could be extrapolated out to the devices on billions of people's wrists (smart watches with heart monitors) to help people identify when they are moving into a state of fear or love as the basis for taking action.https://www.loveoutloud.io/Book at https://www.nicolegibson.com/books/  Shape the System is  an independent podcast with support from KPMG High Growth Ventures More about KPMG High Growth VenturesScale up for success. It was through the contrast of being able to fully feel and experience this darkness that she was able to witness a sparkle of light within, a love that is always inside of us, and she realised all she needed to do was meet it. Nicole speaks of how growing up she felt misunderstood by her family, but it was through that misunderstanding that she found edges of herself that allowed her to discover who she truly was. She talks about how as a teenager she travelled across Australia connecting with schools within remote communities, listening and connecting to children by creating a safe space for them to be seen, heard, valued and understood. We talk about how life is not necessarily about learning new practises or personal development techniques, but rather the unlearning of the beliefs and conditioning that have limited our ability to step into our highest expression of truth. We go deep into how love is an actionable skill set that can be taught, applied and cultivated in each moment, through each person and recognising it's true power to transform, heal and create our lives. "Life is so loving, that it will give you unconditionally everything that you ask for, we just don't think to look outside the box." - Nicole Gibson

Nicole Gibson is the CEO and Founder of a non-profit social movement called Love Out Loud. Her mission is to spread acknowledgement, love, and acceptance. She has over 4,000 Instagram followers and 5,000 Facebook followers. Love Out Loud aims to impact 350 million people or 4% of the global population by the end of 2020 by giving them strategies on how to live their lives and run their businesses from a place of love and compassion. She says that the great thing about doing her work as a speaker and even as a facilitator is she is constantly impacting people without necessarily even getting to meet them. Her massive experience of understanding what's important in life, going through various mental health challenges and pretty significant eating disorder through her teenage years made her realize by the time she chose recovery from that that there was no point or fulfillment in following a lack of anything superficial. This sent her to the path of sending her message out to people. “You're already influencing. You might not be aware that you're influencing, but even by walking into a room and saying nothing, you're influencing the room.” In this episode, Nicole really deep dives into her story of how and why she started her influence. We talk about the importance of mental health and how it is becoming the leading health epidemic in recorded human history and what's the core reason behind that. We also cover powerful topics such as human potential and how we can tap into those hidden resources. On top of all that, we talk about fears and how we can overcome them so we can step into our greatness and stop playing small. When Nicole was 18 years old, she established a Not-for-Profit and grew it to sustainability, while completing two National speaking tours. She was a finalist for the Young Australian of the Year at 20 years old and listed as one of Australia's top 100 most influential women at 21, shortly after taking out the Pride of Australia Medal. She's made the front cover of The Financial Review, the Yellow Pages and featured in a documentary aired on prime-time national television. She's a fierce ambassador for mental health, innovation and connection after recovering from her own terrifying lived experience with anorexia nervosa through her teenage years. She's currently the Chief Executive Officer The Rogue & Rouge Foundation, and recently completed three terms as the youngest Commonwealth Commissioner for Mental Health. In her career so far, she's facilitated workshops and presentations with over a quarter of a million Australians. She's a skilled and experienced motivational speaker, developing her own facilitation methods early on in her career, which continue to evolve. She draws upon 10 years of theatre training as the basis of her facilitation style. She feels Australia has a lot to learn in the way of innovation and community-connectedness; much of our population lacks spiritual education and awareness and personally, she feels this a significant contributor to our high-rates of suicide and mental illness. In 2016 she completed her first international speaking tour; speaking at institutions like Oxford University and The Anna Freud Centre. In her travels through Europe, the USA and Central/South America, she noticed how our universal need remains the same regardless of our physical circumstances. When people are provided a space to explore themselves safely and find the opportunity to be held with love and acceptance; this equates to the biggest breakthroughs. She's the author of the book Love Out Loud and the founder of the love-based movement Love Out Loud with the mission to engage 4% of the global population by the end of 2020 through digital content, retreats, seminars, philosophy circles, business consultation, community partnerships and festivals. In this week’s episode, we‘re joined by Nicole Gibson, a multi-award winning social entrepreneur, published author, but most of all, an unstoppable messenger of love and human potential. When she was 18 years old, she started a not-for-profit company called The Rogue & Rouge Foundation dedicated to battling the mental health stigma through a community-based approach, reaching out to children and parents through schools and community groups. The inspiration for starting her own charitable organization came from her own struggles of dealing with anorexia nervosa throughout her teenage years. She was afraid to return to a society which was not able to understand her struggles, so she made a commitment to passionately rebel against Australia’s negative stereotypes.Over the years, Nicole has received many different awards and honors for her contributions to society, the most prominent one being the Pride of Australia Inspiration Medal in 2014. She was also listed as one of Australia’s top 100 most influential women when she was only 21 years old!Nicole has published her first book titled “Love Out Loud”. It is a personal account of her own journey finding her way back to love, and a guide for others that should help them do the same. Aside from that, Nicole also created a unique Love Out Loud online program which is designed to help you shift your mindset and learn to Love Louder with just 15 minutes a day.Throughout her career, Nicole has spoken to and facilitated workshops and presentations for over 250 000 Australians. Using her own background of 10 years in theatre training, she developed a facilitation method in order to spiritually educate and raise awareness about mental illness.Nicole invites us to transform ourselves, realize our potential and understand our responsibility to give back to the world.Connect with Nicole:Website: https://www.nicolegibson.com.au/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicgibson_/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nicolegibson.unifierLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicole-gibson-unifier/Nicole’s Story of Inspired Evolution“At a young age I had to ask myself quite heavy questions, “Am I prepared to devote the rest of my life”, or even more intense, “Am I prepared to die for, essentially, my Ego.”, which is what was driving my eating disorder.” - Nicole GibsonIn her teenage years, Nicole has struggled with an eating disorder known as anorexia nervosa. She openly describes intricate details and thought processes of dealing with mental illness and points out the “feeling of having to be a particular way to meet other people’s expectations” as the main culprit and driving force behind the disorder. Aside from experiencing great emotional pain, Nicole was suffering from immense physical pain as well.“When you’re dealing with mental illness - it’s very self-oriented.” - Nicole GibsonOne of the key turning points for Nicole came from releasing herself from being the focal point of her overwhelming thoughts and self-analysis. Turning her attention outwards to the world, she “started listening”, and what she received from that listening is a realization that “life is about giving and service.” She understood that there is a greater side to her story, and set upon her path of transformation, even though the path itself was not yet well-defined.“I think we always know how to make it happen, but we’re not always prepared to listen.” - Nicole GibsonHonesty as an Essential Agency for Change“It’s one thing to think positive and know that you can live the life of your dreams, it’s another thing to really face your shit and look at where you’re not being honest.” - Nicole GibsonNicole highlights honesty as one of the key conditions needed for transformation. Being able to be alone with yourself, taking in what comes up and learning how to deal with it is the fundamental step in the process of self-improvement. Once you are able to “sit with your s***”, you will establish spiritual tranquility, meaning you will no longer be a slave to your deep insecurities or negativity but will have more energy to think of practical ways how to and actually overcome them.“Until you’re really honest about where you’re at, you can’t change, you can’t transform.” - Nicole GibsonOr to put it in another way, as a line directly pulled from her book, “We can’t heal what we don’t reveal.” It is necessary to know what the problem is if you’re trying to eradicate or transcend it. She acknowledges meditation as one of the most useful settings for being honest with yourself and expresses piercing insight into why most people find meditation an unpleasant activity at first.“The reason you hate meditation is because every time you try to meditate, the first thing that comes up is your guilt, your shame, and your insecurities, but that’s coming up so that you can be aware of that. And via that awareness, you can actually work through it.” - Nicole GibsonValidation vs. Acknowledgement - Barrier vs. Blessing?“I knew that if I was seeking validation I was never going to feel validated.” - Nicole GibsonNicole makes a very important distinction between two relevant driving forces in our lives. One being validation being a more superficial, potentially damaging and irrelevant for spiritual growth, and the other being acknowledgement, a deeper feeling of appreciation and acceptance which starts with one’s self.“Acknowledgement begins with you. Unless I can look at the person in the mirror, and actually acknowledge myself and my journey, how could I ever feel that or experience that from another person?” - Nicole GibsonAcknowledgement is about giving. It’s about being humble, serving and giving back. Aside from acknowledging yourself, you can also use it to bring out the change in others and also give them strength to their viewpoint.“To receive someone’s gift is to actually to allow their perception of the world to be strengthened by you.” - Nicole GibsonThe Difference Between Being Lonely and Being AloneIn her book “Love Out Loud”, Nicole has condensed her last 7 years of being an unstoppable messenger of love and human potential. She talks all about honesty, acknowledgement, love and the human connection.“The first premise is that we’re all immensely connected. But we’re not always conscious of the fact that we’re connected.” - Nicole GibsonNot being consciously aware and acting upon this idea of being connected with others will most definitely have you ending up in a place of feeling lonely. But being alone is not synonymous with being lonely. No one should choose to loneliness, but we should, from time to time, seek and savor aloneness because it is a prerequisite for personal growth. We need to be able to find the time and give ourselves space to search for wisdom within and explore things that are true to us.“You can and will find solace and peace in your aloneness.” - Nicole Gibson See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

A very dense conversation today with Nicole Gibson! Nicole is an international Speaker and listed in the Financial Review’s Top 100 Most Influential Women. At 21 she was appointed the Australia’s Commissioner for Mental Health, and now she dedicates her time uniting communities, shifting corporate culture, and empowering individuals. She gives a language to the deeper things we feel as a collective and isfighting to unite humanity through understanding, love and empowerment. This young lady is an embodiment of love, an unstoppable messenger of love and human potential. She is a fierce ambassador for mental health, innovation and connection after recovering from her own experience with anorexia nervosa through her teenage years. In her own words: "Mental health is said to be the worlds leading health epidemic by 2020, and suicide is the leading killer in Australia. It’s more obvious than ever that our current approach to mental health is too rigid, and denies people space to account for their own unique quirks and uniqueness." About mental health, depression, isolation, rite of passage, acknowledgement, and more than anything, love. * [3:00] About the workshops Nicole facilitates: Rite of passage is about understanding that there's gonna be a perfect time and a space for someone to have a breakthrough, and maybe it's actually not about getting a breakthrough for every single person. Through flow and in that space some people will have a breakthrough. And we are all connected; so if you can have one person to have that breakthrough, what happens then is everyone sees himself in that person, and may simultaneously have that breakthrough as well. There is power in a community of people. By one person being vulnerable, it activates vulnerability in all the other persons. Vulnerability is: It is just being honest and speak to whatever you're feeling in that moment.* [6:15] Bridging the gap between traditional and modern societies, to find again the sense of who we are in the community, and know how to behave, find identity & belonging. We are interdependent. We can learn so much from each other and honor that each other's humanity has something to bring to the group. "In a world that put so much significance on individuality, there's actually so much conformity." The people who are "celebritized" are the most ok with speaking their truth, and they are the most unapologetic about who they are. But we are never gonna get to that level by copying them, we've got to find our own equivalent to that.* [9:30] "If 50% of the west is struggling with mental health, that's not biological. To me that just screams there is something going on with our culture and there's something that's actually hurting us on an emotional level. And it makes sense, right? If you're exposed to the level of stress and the level of anxiety (...), unless you feel a sense of anxiety, I would actually argue that you are desensitized."* [11:00] Awareness campaigns are a good start, yet just knowing that it is a problem doesn't give us solutions. When "you can be with someone in their vulnerability, then your friend saying he's suicidal or in a lot of pain, is not gonna make you retract. You can actually be with them in that, and that is the best community intervention that we can have. It doesn't mean you have to be a qualified therapist or a professional, but to not be afraid, to not let the fear of the situation actually rule, and to be present with people in that."* [12:33] How to break the cycle of feeling pain, feeling isolated, shame? "You're qualified [to help] just because you're a human being. But often you've spend so long rejecting and avoiding your own vulnerability, that you haven't shown yourself just how powerful you can be in someone else's own journey.
