How to Evolve from RoleMate to SoulMate with Dr. Warren Farrell

Oh my God this man is my hero. I'm still stunned by his extraordinary depth, insights, wisdom, generosity and tearful smiling love for his wife. What a privilege and blessing to dive deep into what it truly takes to go beyond defensiveness and create conversations that deepen love when consistent criticism can often lead to divorce. And this still pinching myself conversation, which I would be happy to have for an entire weekend long, we also discussed... -The healing power of 'sharing and caring' sessions to shift people from surviving to thriving and support them in creating a 'conflict free zone' relationship -How when you know you're going to have a 'sharing and caring' conversation, how anger, violence, yelling and sarcasm diminish because you know you're going to be heard -How it's biologically unnatural to receive criticism without defensiveness yet openness and connection can be learned and more importantly practiced to turn almost any relationship around -How underneath anger is vulnerability and how overtime through practice responding with compassion and focusing on appreciation, you can learn to hear behind the cranky words to the heart's unmet needs behind it -I shared how I still haven't been able to get through listening to the Boy Crisis Book because it triggers so much about my own personal situation. Warren invited a follow-up call about this with me, I was floored, humbly grateful, prayers answered in such an unexpected way -He supported my own coaching practice by teaching me that young adults on antidepressants have often not been taught boundaries, limits or delayed gratification. The mothers on antidepressants often feel like a failure when the children don't respect them -We teased about instead of creating work-life balance, he and his wife Liz create work-work balance! One of his latest sharing and caring sessions with her was about taking 3 months off a year! -And as the Divine would have it, we were able to invite her on the After the Show segment on Patreon... there wasn't a dry eye in the house. The continued reliance on a "business as usual" model is insufficient for countering the detrimental consequences of global warming. Numerous studies, including the influential reports from the IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, have sparked a keen interest in understanding the prerequisites for the societal transformations necessary to address climate change effectively. However, a significant disconnect persists between the scientific consensus on global warming and the actions taken by political leaders at international, national, and local levels. In many of my interactions with policymakers from around the world, I often hear that despite being a global challenge, the discourse around global warming is disproportionately influenced by the perspectives and priorities of rich countries. Politicians in the global South in particular claim that this imbalance often results in global agreements that neglect the complexities of local justice and the intricate local politics involving competition for limited resources. Lan Marie Nguyen Berg is the Deputy Leader of the Green Party and a Member of the Norwegian Parliament. Or will we continue to head towards further destruction of biodiversity and natural resources, which are both so important for peace and prosperity? Are today's parliamentarians able to make the decisions needed to pave the way for behavioral change? See pictures and read more on materiallyspeaking.comWith abstract calligraphic lines, Julia Vance creates sculptural forms in white Italian Statuario marble. She tells us how she created a modern altar, font and pulpit for a new church in Hønefoss, Norway, which replaced the previous church which had burnt down.In this episode, Julia describes a piece she was finishing called Passage to Knowledge. Carved in black granite, this monumental sculpture is like a huge letter Q, signifying a question. It comprises a circle with a tail, and is a portal you can pass through.Julia believes the value of questions is far more important than students being filled up with answers. Passage to Knowledge was unveiled in the schoolyard of the newly opened Flesberg school, Norway, in September 2019. Julia created the piece to honour curiosity and encourage children to engage and play with it.Another work which plays with calligraphic forms is HOLD #2. This sculpture is inspired by the sweeping lines and curves of the letters H, L and D. The piece invites you to curl up inside the cavity and become the missing letter O. Before going on display in Holland Park, London, HOLD #2 was shown in front of the Norwegian Parliament. The sculpture group WE-ME #5 was inspired by the idea that the word ‘me' can easily be turned upside-down to form a ‘we', much the same way an individual ‘me' can join a group and become part of a ‘we'. First displayed in 2014 in front of Oslo Central station, the piece has wheels fastened to the side allowing members of the public to rotate the words.Since 2005 Julia has divided her time between Norway and Italy, creating her letter- and word-inspired sculptures. Having spent most of the pandemic in Norway, she is looking forward to returning to her studio in Pietrasanta to work on new commissions.juliavance.noinstagram.com/juliavance1Royal Society of Sculptors

Lebanon is in a deep crisis; political, economic, social. And the future is dark. With mismanagement and corruption being the norm for decades, the future of the country is simply put, depressing.  The only solution now is a strong French plan for the country and for the corrupt elite, as well as potential UN involvement. "Shakespeare's world was not that of the 'Renaissance Pleasure Fair.' It was a world of oppression, spying and betrayal, mass executions, censorship. But understanding how we got something precious from that should be part of what strengthens our grasp of what we have received from the past." The great literary scholar and Shakespeare expert Stephen Greenblatt is here for a discussion about The Bard--- his plays, his influence, and how one goes about teaching Shakespeare. Themes that have come up before on this show reappear here, notably what does one do with the uncomfortable, sometimes disturbing content of The Taming of the Shrew, Othello, or The Merchant of Venice? What is a college class supposed to make of all this in America in 2021? How does Greenblatt take lessons from the history of world art and culture and funnel them through Shakespeare to his students, to the readers of his books? Also included here is a deep dive into Verdi's Otello-- what Greenblatt believes to be a profoundly moving treatment of one of Shakespeare's great masterpieces. The Nobel Prize, regardless of category, has always been surrounded by politics, intrigue, even scandal. But those pale in comparison to the Peace Prize. In Betraying the Nobel, Norwegian writer Unni Turrettini completely upends what we thought we knew about the Peace Prize—both its history and how it is awarded. As 1984’s winner, Desmond Tutu, put it, “No sooner had I got the Nobel Peace Prize than I became an instant oracle.” However, the Peace Prize as we know it is corrupt at its core.In the years surrounding World War I and II, the Nobel Peace Prize became a beacon of hope, and, through its peace champions, became a reference and an inspiration around the world. But along the way, something went wrong. Alfred Nobel made the mistake of leaving it to the Norwegian Parliament to elect the members of the Peace Prize committee, which has filled the committee with politicians more loyal to their political party’s agenda than to Nobel’s prize's prerogative. As a result, winners are often a result of political expediency.Betraying the Nobel will delve into the surprising, and often corrupt, history of the prize, and examine what the committee hoped to obtain by its choices, including the now-infamously awarded Cordell Hull, as well as Henry Kissinger, Al Gore, and Barack Obama.  Turrettini shows the effects of increased media attention, which have turned the Nobel into a popularity prize, and a controversial and provocative commendation. Turrettini is in conversation with Brian Keating, Distinguished Professor of Physics at the Center for Astrophysics & Space Sciences at UC San Diego, and author of the book Losing the Nobel Prize. Welcome to the 15th episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast which features second deputy member of the Norwegian Parliament for the Green Party and Communications Adviser to the Research Council of Norway Kristoffer Robin Haug. This podcast covers the ongoing Fight for the Bight against Equinor in Norway from Kristoffer’s perspective in the political heart of Norway. Hosted by NSM Associate Editor and Senior Writer Joshua B. Kirkman this special edition of the podcast series will include interviews with the key stakeholders involved in resisting Equinor as well as members of a delegation of concerned environmentalists, Traditional owners and surfers who are making their way to Norway to show the leaders at Equinor that drilling in the Bight simply isn’t right. If you have been living under a rock, the Fight for the Bight has seen protesters in their thousands ‘paddle-out’ at beaches around Australia to send a clear message to politicians in Australia and Equinor that the surfing community will not stand for this proposed drilling for oil in Australia, or in other sensitive marine environments. This is a unique time in history where surfers are taking a stand in large numbers – the ground swell is real. www.nordicsurfersmag.se www.instagram.com/nordicsurfersmag https://shop.nordicsurfersmag.se/

Town Hall Seattle Arts & Culture Series

Comprising only a few ancient verses, the story of Adam and Eve has served as a mirror in which we seem to glimpse the whole, long history of our fears and desires. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stephen Greenblatt, a Harvard professor and general editor to The Norton Anthology of English Literature, explores its literary and cultural history in The Rise and Fall of Adam and Eve. He will be joined onstage by interviewer Lesley Hazelton—veteran author and journalist, and former Town Hall Scholar-in-Residence. Tracking the tale into the deep past, Greenblatt and Hazelton delve into the tremendous theological, artistic, and cultural investment over centuries that made these figures so profoundly resonant in the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim worlds and, finally, so very “real” to millions of people even in the present. The biblical origin story, Greenblatt argues, is a model for what the humanities still have to offer: not the scientific nature of things, but rather a deep encounter with problems that have gripped our species for as long as we can recall and that continue to fascinate and trouble us today. Stephen Greenblatt is Cogan University Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University. He is the author of thirteen books, including The Rise and Fall of Adam and Eve; Shakespeare’s Freedom; and The Swerve: How the World Became Modern—and he is General Editor of The Norton Anthology of English Literature and The Norton Shakespeare. His honors include the 2016 Holberg Prize from the Norwegian Parliament, the 2012 Pulitzer Prize, two Guggenheim fellowships, Harvard University’s Cabot Fellowship, and Yale’s Wilbur Cross Medal. Lesley Hazelton is a Seattle-based author, psychologist and journalist—and inaugural Town Hall Scholar-in-Residence—whose work has focused on religion and politics. She has written for The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, Esquire, Vanity Fair, The Nation, and more. Her most recent books include After the Prophet, Mary: A Flesh-and-Blood Biography of the Virgin Mother and Jezebel: The Untold Story of the Bible’s Harlot Queen.
