The NBA Finals pit the 53-win Denver Nuggets against the 44-win Miami Heat, which means that we're going to see a second all-time NBA champion with a specific regular-season win total. The only question is whether it's going to be for the first time in nearly 70 years, or the second time in a row.53-win NBA champions: 2021-22 Golden State Warriors (53-29)44-win NBA champions: 1956-57 Boston Celtics (44-28)The 1948-49 Minneapolis Lakers also won 44 games, losing just 16, but they weren't NBA champions. They were BAA champions, the forerunner league for the NBA, beating the Chicago Stags and Rochester Royals in the Western Division playoffs before a six-game triumph over the Wasington Capitols in the Finals.Should be a good time. My guest in this episode is author, speaker & entrepreneur, Penny Power, OBE. I first met Penny in the late 90's when she had just started the first Social Network, Ecademy with the declared aim of helping business people achieve success through online tools, community, and friendship. At that time there were a lot of people talking about online tools but very few talking about community, friendship and love , all of which have permeated Penny's work throughout her career. The intro to her 2018 book ‘Business is Personal' says ‘Penny has poured her heart into this book, and it is incredibly revealing' and I feel very privileged that she did the same in our conversation. It would be easy for Penny to paint a rose-tinted picture of the journey she has been on, and she is the first to say she has much to be grateful for. But alongside that, life has thrown up some massive challenges, awful luck, and real tragedy. Penny takes us through both sides of that story in the open, honest, and authentic way that is her trademark and I find it genuinely inspirational. I always tell my guests:  ‘it's completely up to you how you want to approach the episode and the story you want to tell. All episodes are a mix of music nerdery and life story but the balance between them is different for each guest/episode which is one of the joys for me. This is an episode that is more focussed on the life story, but Penny's song choices enhance her story so much and I would be surprised if you don't choke up to at least one of them (and I'm very glad I allowed Penny two songs from the same artist) Her song choices are: 60's        Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da                                    The Beatles 70's        Solitaire                                                                Carpenters80's        One Moment in Time                                   Whitney Houston90's        Get There                                                            Oleta Adams00's        I Didn't Know My Own Strength           Whitney Houston10's        Just the Way You Are                                   Bruno Mars20's        The Rose                                                              Bette MidlerIf you would like to be on the show then please contact me at musictalkspod@outlook.com Please follow and like Music Talks on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/musictalkspod . This past week in the holy city of Boston, a miracle happened not once but twice. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Paul McCartney, who is eleven days shy of 80 years old, rocked on at Fenway Park. Fenway was jammed to the rafters, and this 80-year old singer wowed and captivated a full park for two and a half hours. Thirty songs. Did I mention that he is 80? How does an 80-year-old still have the energy, the charisma, the voice to hold that big of an audience for that long? How does a performer continue to perform the same songs that he has been singing, some of them Beatles classics like Can't Buy Me Love, Hey Jude and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da for 60 years, with fresh energy? Can you do that? Can you do the same thing for 60 years, with fresh energy? Could I give the same sermon for 60 years, with fresh energy? Could you hear my same sermon for 60 years, with fresh energy? How does he do that?

Paul McCartney has written some of the best lyrics in all of modern music. At the same time, he also wrote the lyrics to "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," which are about as silly as lyrics get. The point is that not every lyric has to be deep and meaningful to be effective. In fact, this week we're celebrating songs that are built on the backs of total gibberish.

Hello and welcome to the Better Each Day podcast with me, Bruce Andrew Hilliard. Andrew came from my grandpa Andy Hilliard. He could chew Copenhagen all day without spitting, put horseradish on everything and drank Listerine.  Last week I was invited to a 90th birthday party for a man that was a second dad to me. He was actually my best buddy's dad, the guy I ran with from first grade into high school and beyond. And when things weren't good for me at home, I was over at their house bugging them, a family of Mom, Dad and four sons…like they needed a fifth sugar infused spider monkey running around their house. They introduced me to  going to sporting events and family activities and many many sleepovers. Not that there was a warzone at the Hilliard's place but there was a whole different vibe with my lifelong friends on Hoo Humper Hill. The names have been changed to protect the innocent so for now, we're talking Hoo Humper family as per advice from the Better Each Day legal department. There was almost a guarantee there would be fun and learning about the things I wouldn't have without my second family. There was even a Hoo Humper song that Mom Scooter would sing if your ears were shiny. I never asked where the song came from but I know it's the same place that manufactures fun. So, here's to Bob, his wife Scooter and remaining sons Jim, Steve and Dale. My buddy, Eddie Hoo Humper, who introduced me to this family in 1962 passed away two years ago last August. That served to make things even tighter with the Hoo Humper family. There are other relatives and friends that fit into this equation but this is the main lineup. They still stand tall in the community and still welcome my sorry ass over for some lovin'.  These are the things that inspire songs about coming home. I wrote and recorded this one Sweetest Thing I've Ever Known just last week. The Hoo Humpers, for some reason, took me, the neighbor kid in. It was Man From Uncle, blacklight posters and football in the mud. Jimi Hendrix, the Doors and "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", which is Nigerian for "life goes on". I was born in Seattle but Aberdeen will always be my hometown. When I tell people where I'm from, Aberdeen, they hang their heads in sorrow and ask who to make the check out to. To an outsider, it looks like a drive through Walmartian Beach. Despite its perpetual yard sale outward appearance as you drive through the main drag on the way to the beach, it has its upscale non-ghetto looking neighborhoods.  That's where we lived, played and I still look forward to driving down Think Of Me Hill into the old timbertown. But to get there from where I currently flourish up north, you need to drive through Tacoma. The city with the fifty year I-5 improvement. There's about three miles of I-5 that cut through Tacoma that, no exaggeration, has been under construction at least since I've been driving, yes, fifty years, non-stop and they still don't have it quite right. There must be at least one highway to heaven worker that can retire and say “I succeeded in congesting traffic through Tacoma for a half century.” They have a special award and lifetime supply of Tacoma aroma…another story. But it's the ocean beach I used to, and still do, love. Ocean Shores. It's where I got my start in radio, at 91.3 KOSW, the sound of the shores. Birthday Boy Bob Hoo Humper shared some compelling stories as a retired heater repairman. He knews where everyone hid their booze. Including my mom. And, he says he knew about all the times we snuck out during our sleepovers but no way…we were f'ing ninjas. He didn't know where we stashed our booze. Saturday nights meant party on and rock out at the local roller skating rink the Harborena. Here's a song I wrote and recorded with all the instruments and the sound a ca. 1970 Pacific Northwest rock band. Strike up the B-3 Hammond and…hey, check on the six-finger guitar...

This week The Paranoid Style Podcast is back with Part 2 of The Beatles - Paul Is Dead! We keep scouring The Beatles' discography for the clues that will break this case wide open. From India to Abbey Road. From the black mass rites of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, to the shade thrown on How Do You Sleep? From the Manson's Family's Helter-Skelter to the walrus, who we're pretty sure wasn't Paul. Oh! And did we mention that this time playing the songs forward is not enough? G-N-I-K-S-A-M-K-C-A-B! Warning: After bad-mouthing other people's Liverpudlian accent, we produce quite possibly the worst of all time. Our apologies to the lovely people of Liverpool… If you have any topic suggestions for the show or any tales to share, please email us at theparanoidstylepod@gmail.com and follow us on Instagram @theparanoidstylepod or on twitter @style_paranoid.  Music used in this episode is from: Purple Planet Royalty Free Music  Opening theme music provided by Tony Molina. Our goal with The Vietnam War: The Music is to honor the fallen and the survivors with the music that got them through “just one more day”. Our shows are broadcast around the world. They say thank you & “welcome home” to all Vietnam Vets. ***** As we close season three, the theme is centered around a military cadence call, “Jody's Got Your Cadillac”. Cadences are used by soldiers during marching or running maneuvers. They are sometimes called “jody calls” or “jodies”, after Jody, a recurring character who figures in many traditional cadences; Jody refers to the man with whom a serviceman's wife/girlfriend cheats while he is deployed. Jody stays back home, drives the soldier's car, and gets the soldier's sweetheart while the soldier is stationed elsewhere. ******  ***** In this episode you'll hear two songs, by soldiers who served there. ******** One is Saigon Warrior by Saul Broudy (lead) & Robin Thomas (back-up vocal) **** SAIGON WARRIOR is a military folksong about rear echelon personnel. It descended from a British Army World War I song entitled "The Lousy Lance-Corporal." It circulated widely in Southeast Asia in both Army and Air Force tradition. *****SAUL BROUDY served as a platoon leader, in the 96th Quartermaster Battalion, 1st Logistical Command, at Phan Rang, 1966-1967. *****The second song, GRUNT, was written & performed by in-country soldier Bill Ellis. This song is a detailed description of the "little things that mean a lot" in the daily life of the combat infantryman—mail from home, a drink of cool water, sharing what you have with your buddies. ***** BILL ELLIS was drafted out of a rock band in San Francisco in 1968. He became known as the "singing rifleman" of the First Cavalry Division. In March, 1969, he was pulled from field duty as a rifleman with A Company, 1st Battalion, Fifth Cavalry, and reassigned to Special Services. He toured the Cav area of operations, performing for grunts on the fire support bases. ***** Both are available on the CD “In Country: Folk Songs of Americans in the Vietnam War” (Rounder Records, https://store.rounder.com/) - - - - - - For a look at in-country soldier musicians, watch the video at: ***https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mLgkMqt_Bw-----Join the conversation on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008232395712    ------ or by email at dannymemorylane@gmail.com   ------ In this episode, you'll hear: -- 1)     Every Picture Tells a Story by Rod Stewart2)     Drive My Car by The Beatles3)     Welcome Home by Country Joe McDonald4)     Wanted (A Solid Gold Cadillac) by The Aquatones (w/ Lynne Nixon, vocals)5)     Who's Making Love by Johnnie Taylor6)     A Letter From Sherry by Dale Ward7)     Hoochie Coochie Man by The Allman Brothers Band8)     Wild One by BR5-499)     Saigon Warrior by Saul Broudy (lead) & Robin Thomas10) Bitch by The Rolling Stones11) Long Live Our Love by The Shangri-Las12) Kentucky Rain by Elvis Presley13) Have You Seen Her by The Chi-Lites14) When a Man Loves a Woman by Wolfman Jack15) You Can Have Her by The Righteous Brothers16) I Put A Spell On You by Creedence Clearwater Revival17) Please Mr. D.J. by Merle Haggard18) Stoned At The Jukebox by Hank Williams Jr.19) Requiem For The Masses by The Association20) The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band21) Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da by The Beatles22) Grunt by Bill Ellis23) Come See About Me by Junior Walker & The All Stars24) L.A. Playlist del programa:00 - Blaudzun-Solar (Intro).01 - The Hollies-The Air That I Breathe.02 - Radiohead-Creep.03 - The Beatles-Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.04 - The Offspring-Why Don't You Get a Job.05 - Killing Joke-Eighties.06 - Nirvana-Come as You Are.07 - Al Bano y Romina Power-I Cigni Di Balaka.08 - Michael Jackson-Will You Be There.09 - The Kinks-All Day and All of The Night.10 - The Doors-Hello, I Love You.11 - The Chiffons-He's So Fine .12 - George Harrison-My Sweet Lord.13 - Stevie Wonder-Uptight.14 - Oasis-Step Out.15 - PJ Harvey That Was My Veil.16 - Amaral-Te necesito.17- Blaudzun-Solar (Despedida).

In this  episode of I Don't Like Reggae, I Love It, a special audio series on the historical origins and impact of reggae on popular music, I go back to the beginning and tell the story behind the granddaddy of all cod reggae tracks – Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da by The Beatles.  As Beatlemania was reaching a frenzy in 1964, ska music was also exploding in popularity in the UK. And like everyone else in England, The Beatles were listening. After an early and brief exploration with ska in their song   "I Call Your Name,"  it was just a few years later that the band would experiment with Jamaican music again but in a bigger, more direct way.  As more non-reggae artists began to appropriate the sound of reggae and white audiences responded, this new “regatta de blanc” as The Police called their second album, received a less than flattering name – cod reggae. It's a harsh but efficient way of describing reggae music reconfigured for a mass audience. If you've listened and received some value from this episode, then please help support the podcast for as little as $3 per month on Patreon. This episode drops into the contentious White Album sessions. Paul's perfectionism can be such a blessing, but also a curse. In trying to craft the joy and fun of #202 "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da," he ends up infuriating other band members and fighting with George Martin. Not the easiest way to get to a happy, silly, family friendly song. But then again, happy and family friendly are nowhere on the docket when John and Yoko enlist George and Mal Evans on the auditory equivalent of a bad acid trip, #201, "What's The New Mary Jane." Then again, they're crafting two VERY different ideas here. One is rooted in musicality and traditional song structure, with it's creator leaning on his own well-respected strengths and ability, while the other seems to be a product of someone free from the binds of being a pop star, and able to indulge in the creative whimsy in discovering oneself as "an artist." Or maybe it's just pure mumbo jumbo, I dunno. Joining us this week is guitarist and Jonathan's musical partner Stephen Turner. After being in bands together for the better part of 2 decades, they're still best friends and brothers, in that way that only people who've been creative together and spent countless fart-filled hours touring in a van can be. We discuss growing up in a house in which The Beatles and The Stones were never pitted against each other, switching off one side of your brain to enjoy more complicated music, the kind of music one would create when they get "f#&k you money," and Julia manages to drop a "your mom" for the first time. Want to hear some of Stephen's guitar work? You can check out his and Jonathan's work in The Breton Sound. If instrumental prog is more your thing, you can dig his old band, Epic's album "Proprium." I'm gonna put music in your pocket Coffee : https://byte.coffee/开场曲:The Beatles - Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da插曲:Peter Murphy - Cuts You Up结尾电影音轨部分:Danny Boyle - Steve Jobs (2015) 01:54:30 - 01:58:12(背景音乐:The Maccabees - Grew Up at Midnight)
