Brisbane metal legends Dreamkillers could be forgiven for resting on past accomplishments and spending the remainder of their career playing songs that are known and loved by many without placing themselves at the mercy of the metal Gods by continuing to write and release new music.Since bursting onto the Brisbane music scene in the early 1990s and revolutionising Australian metal with their debut EP Poison In The Soup, Dreamkillers have been a mainstay on the circuit, evolving at their own pace without pause for expectation and/or conformity. Their refusal to bow down to authority and succumb to the whims and desires of industry heavyweights has seen Dreamkillers court controversy and embrace it, standing by their morals and music in a world that has become increasingly sanitised and confronting.Where most bands into the fourth ten year stretch of their musical journey are content to go through the motions, Dreamkillers are only strengthening their resolve.Churning out seven new songs over the past year - all of which will remain as stand alone singles for now - the band shows no sign of slowing down, recently inking a deal with Australian label XMusic and assembling a new batch of songs that promise to continue the bands enduring legacy. They are, quite simply, a musical enigma. An immovable sonic blast of intent and uncompromising honesty that has all but died out in modern times.HEAVY was fortunate enough to speak with the whole band over the last couple of days, running over the swag of tunes released over the last 12 months and how they reflect Dreamkillers moving forward."Unreal, it's pumping," the band answered when we ask how they feel entering the new year. "It's going good," guitarist Damo added. "More shenanigans, more music, more shows and more debauchery if we can have our way with it (laughs).""We just had a conversation," added vocalist Les Jobson. "We've got so many tracks we don't know whether to do a double album or two single albums. We just got busy. We thought we won't pay gigs, we'll write songs this year and that's what we did. Next year we're taking it to the streets."In the full interview we discuss Dreamkillers upcoming show at HEAVY Resolutions on New Years Eve, run through each of the tracks released this year and what they are about, chat about what to expect from the upcoming album and which sonic direction it is leaning towards, go deeper into the songwriting process that breathes life and meaning into the band's music, signing with XMusic and what it means to the band, our regular Photo Bomb segment and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Combining the haunting sounds of dark symphonic metal with the lovelorn energy of gothic rock, Blue Mountains music machine Carmeria have upped the anti significantly with their recently released sophomore album Tragédie D'amour. While their 2021 debut album Advenae announced the arrival of Carmeria it was also somewhat of a tease, showcasing a sonic temperament and direction that was fresh and vibrant without tipping its hand too far in any given direction. As such, the follow-up album was especially important for the band. They could either deliver more of the same - which would have been an acceptable outcome - or they could continue to traverse a more diverse path on the open highway of musical ability. They chose the latter, with the sound on Tragedie D'Amour taking on a more energetic gothic rock approach than its predecessor. To celebrate the recent release, Carmeria are preparing to hit the road for a run of dates with melodic death metal masters Orpheus Omega dubbed the Embers Of Tragedy Australian Tour. HEAVY spent some time with frontman Jordan Von Grae to get more information, starting with last-minute preparations before hitting the road."Really it's just rehearsals and tweaking bits and pieces of the performance," he offered. "So coming up with specific set lists for each show, things like that. Obviously, with these kinds of shows and tours, you have different set lengths for the different shows. One of the sets is 40 minutes and I think another is 50 to an hour, so you're kind of picking and choosing which songs you feel would fit best and of course having to axe some that you might not wanna axe (laughs), But the last couple of weeks before a tour is really about tightening everything up. There's been a bit of work. We've pretty much only had one rehearsal (smiles) so far since being back, and we've got two more planned for the next week. Off the back of that it will be just about tweaking little production things and coming up with some additional ideas for additional performance pazazz."In the full interview, Jordan discussed the release of each band's new albums. He expressed relief and satisfaction with the positive reception of Tragédie D'amour, which took on a more energetic Gothic rock approach. Jordan explained that the change in sound was a deliberate choice to explore different themes, such as love and loss, and to delve into influences like bands like HIM and Lord of the Lost.Jordan discussed the lessons learned from making the band's debut album, which they carried over into album number two. He mentioned that the process became more streamlined, allowing them to produce the second album in half the time. Jordan also talked about his role as producer for this album, stating that it allowed for a more natural sound to the songs but also required him to learn temperance to avoid overdoing it. He expressed excitement about the upcoming tour with Orpheus Omega, stating that they both appreciate each other's work and are looking forward to playing together. We also surprised him with our new Photo Bomb segment, plus plenty more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

(Timestamps below description!) Hello, Airheads! This week we have stupendously pleasant show for you! After making their apologies for jumping the gun on the Kate Middleton conspiracy theories, Lord Trae and Professor CHO spend a spot of time discussing old superstitions, one of which is the fear (amongst Korean Papaws) that a ceiling fan will steal your soul! Lord Trae then shares a photograph he saw earlier this week of Her Royal Highness Queen Victoria Photobombing her Son and Daughter in Law at their Royal wedding... theres more to that story, but we shant give it away here! This leads Professor CHO into his topic which was an exploration of the origins of the famous Hollywood Wax Museum: Madame Tussauds! Closing out the show, Lord Trae brings to our attention a not-so-quite-as-known-Dictator, the former President (and still current Dear Leader) of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow! And lord, what a character he is! The history of photography has some really interesting and surprising facts. For example, the camera is about 2000 years older than photography. The earliest known camera obscuras were documented as far back as the 4th century BCE in China, while photography didn‘t really come about until the 18th Century. In the early 19th century, Louis Daguerre was working hard to improve the photographic method. His innovations helping to develop a latent image drastically cut down on exposure times making photography much more practical. Of course while I say it drastically cut down exposure times, it cut the times down from hours to minutes, but it was still too long to be practical for most people to be captured in a photo. The first photograph of people actually happened by accident as one man‘s decision to get his shoes shined in 1838 led to his likeness being captured in an image that would make history.
