Qual a origem dessa ideia?
Recently, the term “pinkwashing” has garnered attention in the context of Israel's continuous genocide of the Palestinian people. Join us as we delve into the conceptual framework of “homonationalism” in order to understand the foundation behind how queers are utilized within nationalist agendas. This longer episode pulls from entire books, like Puar's influential 2007 work, “Terrorist Assemblages: Homonationalism in Queer Times,” which has not yet been translated into Japanese. It is not a comprehensive overview but, offers Pirikara Queer's understanding of concepts like “homonormativity” and “homonationalism” to unpack the roots of queer politics!

In this episode of family360, Ranbir Puar shares the story of her birth in India as the 5th daughter to parents who longed for a son. Growing up unseen and feeling unwanted, she saw herself as a victim in her home - a narrative she redefined in order to grow and flourish in her adult life. In this conversation, Ranbir explores what contributes to a victim mentality, and how we can mitigate its effects by auditing our thoughts for a clearer understanding of what directs our inner life.

Join Deepa Kumar, Noura Erakat, Naomi Klein, Jasbir Puar, and Keenaga-Yamahtta Taylor to discuss Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire. In Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire, leading scholar Deepa Kumar traces the history of Islamophobia from the 16th century to the “War on Terror.” In the twenty years since 9/11, she writes, Islamophobia has functioned in the United States both as a set of coercive policies and as a body of ideas that take various forms: liberal, conservative, and rightwing. This particular form of bigotry continues to have horrific consequences not only for people in Muslim-majority countries who become the targets of an endless War on Terror, but for Muslims and those who “look Muslim” in the West as well. Importantly, Kumar contends that Islamophobia is not simply religious intolerance or the reaction of an empire in crisis; it must be recognized instead as racism—the kind that manifests in mass surveillance, arbitrary arrests, and deportation, much like other forms of centuries-old systemic racism. And this anti-Muslim racism in turn sustains empire. Today, using a student-generated interview guide, I will be having a conversation with Emma Cameron. Emma is a graduate student in health promotion at Dalhousie University. For her thesis, she is examining The Postnatal Healthcare Experiences of Resettled Syrian Refugees in Nova Scotia. Today, we are primarily interested in Emma’s work with the Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia. Students prepared for creating this interview guide by reading “Homonationalism as Assemblage: Viral Travels, Affectives Sexualities,” a 2015 article by Jasbir K. Puar. Students created interview questions that in many cases were informed by the Puar reading but that would nonetheless make sense to listeners unfamiliar with this work.
Dengerin yuk!

ç who spent the early years of her life hiding from her school friends that she spent her summers with her family doing back-breaking labor in berry fields belonging to someone else. And there was abuse and trauma that led to a victim mentality for awhile - until Ranbir had had enough of feeling sorry for herself, of hiding her pain behind a relentless drive to be the best at everything in life.Ranbir has a passion for teaching adults to help children navigate trauma so that the impacts of trauma don’t carry forward into adulthood. In this conversation, you’re going to hear Ranbir say stuff like:The cornerstone of relationships is communication.“We’re not raising children, we’re raising adults.”“Trauma is associated with unprocessed memories.”“If you don’t move when you’re stressed it’s like not putting on a bandaid when you’re bleeding.”Read and learn more in the show notes at RebootsPodcast.com/Episode45.
Intersectionality is a term coined by Kimberle Crenshaw in 1989. It has since been used and appropriated in many different circles, notably by white women. Now, 30 years later, a new wave of woman of color feminists seek to push back on the term, redefine the term, defend the term, and look beyond the term. Crenshaw herself is part of the conversation and currently seeks to reclaim and explain what the term meant in 1989 and what it means today. While reading these new texts, we thought about the ways the term Intersectionality has been changed and by whom. We read texts to expand our awareness of Intersectional theory as it has evolved since Crenshaw coined the term. In order to do that, she assigned us texts by AnaLouise Keating, Jennifer C. Nash, Jasbir K. Puar, and Brittney Cooper. Kimberly also assigned a video of Crenshaw's presentation at ASA 2018. Questions to Consider: How can we encourage students to examine their felt sense of identity? How can we encourage them to develop language and methods to share about themselves? How can we encourage our students to examine the structures that affect their felt sense of personal identity? What should teachers do ensure that students know and understand the different types of labor? Support the show (https://theorymeetspracticepod.blogspot.com/)
