On Thursday May 11th, 2017 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon will review "Lucifer Princeps" (2015) by Peter Grey. This book is quite different in style from its predecessor "The Red Goddess" which, although well-researched, explored the background and origins of Aleister Crowley's "Babalon" in a popular style. Lucifer Princeps however is a scholarly work and might even be an academic dissertation or thesis edited for the lay reader. Being an academic work it suffers from the assumption that the reader is familiar with the material that the writer is working from. Fortunately this corpus is mostly Biblical and Apocryphal but he cross references other mythologies. Nevertheless the book is a wonderful resource and a great contribution to the Western Esoteric Tradition. He starts with Isaiah's lament and curse as the beginning of the Lucifer's Fall from Heaven story. This sets the stage for a parade of sources from ancient Sumerian and Canaanite mythology. We learn about the first ascent to Heaven by the Sumerian king Etana, and then the Canaanite god Athar who tries to sit on Baal's throne. We learn that the Yahwehists hated the pagan gods of the heavens and that the War in Heaven was actually Yahweh against El and the Elohim. Lucifer is finally revealed as our old friend Semyaza (Semhaza), the leader of the 200 Fallen Angels from the original Book of Enoch. The author concludes his work by offering us a mini-grimoire of Semhaza and his 20 officers, leaving us the job of obtaining their sigils -- which we will certainly do. So if you want get a head start on this project, tune in and give a listen.
On Thursday May 4th, 2017 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon will review and discuss "The Red Goddess" (2007) and "Lucifer Princeps" (2015) by Thelemic magician Peter Grey. The Red Goddess is devoted to establishing the history and mystique of the Thelemic composite pagan goddess "Babalon", which he correctly derives from Ishtar and Astarte. This evolution is for the most part well-researched and well reasoned from a Thelemic perspective, although Grey is critical of Crowley and seems to think that Babylon is too good for the Beast. Most importantly he supports the Divine feminine in magical religion. In "Lucifer Princeps" he does the same for Lucifer on the male side of the magical religious pantheon. In this case he works from Isaiah back to the Book of Enoch, correctly concluding that Lucifer was originally Semyaza and of Canaanite origin. With the exception of his interest in Simon Magus Grey seems to ignore the early Christian Gnostic contributions to Magick but his books are nonetheless readable and thought provoking -- so tune in and we shall look at our magical history through a glass darkly.
Back at it again in podcast land, and this week we're invoking the Goddess Babalon with the wonderful Peter Grey and Alkistis Dimech, the co-conspirators behind the excellent occult publishing house Scarlet Imprint. This week we delve deep into the topic of Babalon with the pair, and examine: Who was Babalon, How did the Babalon working influence Pete and Alkistis' day to day life, What are Babalon's roots, and much much more. Reclaiming his chair from the usurper Marck, Ulysses Black returns to co-hosting duties. Main theme by Simon Smerdon (Mothboy) Music bed by chriszabriskie.com Peter Grey Biography: Peter Grey is a writer, and the co-founder of Scarlet Imprint. He is the author of The Red Goddess (2007), which has inspired the resurgence of interest in Babalon, the goddess of Revelation. His Apocalyptic Witchcraft (2013) has been called the most important modern book on witchcraft, placing it in the mythopoetic context of the sabbat and in a landscape suffering climate and ecological collapse. His Lucifer: Princeps (2015), is a study of the origins of the figure of Lucifer; he is currently writing the second part, Lucifer: Praxis. His collected writings, from 2008–2018, are published in The Brazen Vessel (2019) with those of Alkistis Dimech. His most recent work is The Two Antichrists (2021), a return to the Babalon and Antichrist workings of Jack Parsons and his eclipsed sodality The Witchcraft. He has spoken at private public events and conferences worldwide to both practitioners and academics. These have included Occulture, the Occult Conferences in Glastonbury and London, Treadwell's Bookshop, the Esoteric Book Conference in Seattle, Flambeau Noir in Portland, the Psychology, Art and the Occult conference in London, Here to Go II in Norway, the Trans-States conference in Northampton University, the Magic and Ecology conference for CRASSH at Cambridge University and Pagan Federation events. Peter lives with his lover Alkistis in the far south west of Cornwall on the edge of the Lizard peninsula, where he surfs in the cold Atlantic, walks the ancient land and pursues his magical practice. Alkistis Dimech Biography: With Peter Grey, I am the co-founder of Scarlet Imprint. I am a writer and artist – working principally with dance and the body. My practice is grounded in butô (dark dance). My work explores the occulted dimensions of the body, its subtle anatomy and sexuality as an archaeology of the flesh – drawing from the esoteric and phenomenological traditions – and seeks to unfold a process and techne of bodily spiritual transformation. I have performed in the UK, Europe and the United States, solo and in collaboration with musicians and artists, notably Z'EV, Gast Bouschet & Nadine Hilbert, and Anji Cheung – and spoken on my practice, and given workshops, at conferences and events in the UK, Europe and the United States. Selected works from 2008 to 2018 are documented in The Brazen Vessel and at alkistisdimech.com. I am currently creating Antimony, a work of texts and images on the angelic, alchemical transfiguration of the body.

Peter Grey is a writer, and the co-founder of Scarlet Imprint. He is the author of The Red Goddess (2007), which has become the standard work on the goddess of Revelation. His Apocalyptic Witchcraft (2013) has been called the most important modern book on witchcraft, placing it in the mythopoetic context of the sabbat and in a landscape suffering climate and ecological collapse. Peter and Thelema Now host Harper Feist discuss those works as well his latest, The Two Antichrists, which discusses Jack Parsons' Babylon working. Check it out!
For episode 67 it is my great pleasure to welcome author Peter Grey. Peter is also the co-founder of iconic occult publishers Scarlet Imprint and joins us today to discuss his new book ‘The Two Antichrists'. “The Two Antichrists is a monograph by Peter Grey on the figure of Antichrist in a post-Christian and progressive Thelemic context. Opening with considerations on the future of witchcraft and its relation to radical ecology, Grey returns to the Babalon Working of Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard, and considers a series of little examined texts from science fiction and the outer fringes of Scientology which form a ‘Babalon Apocrypha.' By reading across these sources, the familiar story is revealed to have hidden depths and dimensions. Exploring the role of Antichrist in relation to Parsons and Hubbard, Grey provides insights into the initiatory drama of Thelema: of Satanic rites, Abyss and Angel. The Two Antichrists observes the long shadow cast by the monolith of Scientology, and Parsons' eclipsed sodality The Witchcraft. Looking to the future, he envisions an emergent space witchcraft, infused with the spirit of Do What Thou Wilt. The book concludes with a series of non-denominational rituals and revised Antichrist workings. The work is a fusion of inspiration, research and ritual, from which Grey draws the first lines of his vision of witchcraft in the dusk of our world. The work stands as a companion to Lucifer: Praxis (forthcoming 2022), and continues the trajectory initiated with The Red Goddess and pursued through Apocalyptic Witchcraft. The work was completed on Winter solstice 2020.” Enjoy Show notes: https://scarletimprint.com --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/spirit-box/message

CHAPTER 1 First published in French in 1911, this practical guide to the art of spagyrics also outlines the ancient yet forgotten Hermetic foundations of herbalism. The author provides botanical and medicinal classifications for over 600 plant species and detailed instructions for spagyric extracts, tinctures, elixirs, liquors, oils, unguents, salts, aquae vitae, and quintessences. Buy the book here CHAPTER 2 GREG'S CHOICE The Dionysian themed frescos of Pompeii’s Villa of the Mysteries constitute the single most important theurgical narrative to have survived in the Western esoteric tradition. No other practitioner account of the ritual process for conducting a mystery rite has survived down to today. The frescoes’ vivid and allusive imagery illuminates both the ritual activity of the participants as well as its esoteric import. Arising from within the unique interface between Greek and Roman culture in Southern Italy, the frescoes attest to the survival of an unbroken initiatic tradition of Bakkhic mystery rites on the Italian peninsula stretching back to the fifth century BCE. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, Peter Mark Adams draws on current scholarship on dithyrambic performance; the ritual dress of Greco-Roman priestesses; classical philology and the comparative ethnography of rites of higher initiation. Greg Kaminsky is a scholar of the Western esoteric tradition, with a graduate degree in Medieval Studies, focusing on Renaissance Cabala. Greg became an initiate in several traditions including Illuminism and Freemasonry. Greg is also host and producer of Occult of Personality, a highly regarded and long-running podcast. The book is presented by Ursula Cserenyi. From her very early childhood on, Ursula Cserenyi‘s life was filled with spiritual experiences. Later she found the appropriate words in books. Occultism and esotericism have been a part of her life for more than 20 years. Her interests included Wicca, Theosophy, Ritual Magic, Thelema, Shamanism and other paths. Today she feels a strong connection with Josephine McCarthy’s Quareia work and Babalon, the Red Goddess. CHAPTER 3 This book will introduce you to foundations and practical methods of Draconian magic as a path of self-initiation. You will learn how to start your practice on the Path of the Dragon, establish contact with gods and spirits that will assist you in this work, build your personal temple, prepare tools for your rituals, and design your own workings and exercises. There are instructions that will help in your astral travels and dream magic, teach you how to work with seals and sigils, enhance your magical senses, and show you how to use gates and doorways to the Other Side. Practices such as blood sacrifice and sex magic are discussed in a practical way as well. You will read here about the Draconian Tradition, as well as the Left Hand Path in general, learning what it means to be a Draconian Initiate. While he is hailed as one of the giants of the esoteric sciences, very little attention has been devoted to Crowley’s years as a Cambridge undergraduate (1895 –1898), when the author wrote and published an incredible amount of verse: thispoetry, firmly planted within the vogue of the day,

"And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him." - Genesis 5:24. The Royal Arch of Enoch: The Impact of Masonic Ritual, Philosophy, and Symbolism documents an undiscovered historical anomaly: how a high degree Masonic Ritual, developed in France in the mid 1700s, included elements of the Book of Enoch which was considered lost until Freemason and traveler James Bruce returned to Europe with copies from Ethiopia in 1773. CHAPTER 3 The sheer diversity of popular magic connected with sacred wells and springs is remarkable. Inseparable from the ancient cults of saints and spirits of place, the natural springs and wellheads of the British Isles have come to be famed loci of healing, divination, and spiritual revelation. Some, possessing long traditions of votive and sacrificial offerings, have assumed powers of spirit-guardianship, or, indeed, divinities of water. Other such wells are the repositories of eldritch lore connected with the cult of the skull and the Holy Head. Additionally, bodies of magical practice have developed around some wells, serving a variety of magical purposes, including blessings and curses, healings and the dispensation of prophetic power. In almost every case, there is a specific magical relation between the waters as a medium of spirit, and the surrounding features of the land. The book is presented by Ursula Cserenyi. P. Lovecraft, Phyllis Seckler, John Michael Greer, Susan Montag, Donald Michael Kraig, and many others. Considered as a whole this collection of writings provides an invaluable introduction to many aspects and personalities of the occult and esoteric worlds by one of the foremost authorities on such arcane subjects. THREE OF THE FOUR BOOKS WE PRESENT IN THIS EPISODE ARE ABOUT DIFFERENT APPROACHES TO MAGIC, A KIND OF "HOW TO" ON DIFFERENT SCHOOLS AND TECHNIQUES. CHAPTER 1 In this short interview, author Derek Hunter and I speak about his own version of magic and alchemy, Love Chaos, at the occasion of the launch of his new book "Love Chaos in Theory and Practice". The transformation implied here is a change in consciousness, in the way of seeing the world, in seeing yourself, in changing who you are and by doing thus, changing the world. The process of change is unconventional but not without respect to the past, and also open to everyone. Incorporating storytelling, music, art, philosophy, psychology, occult practices such as tarot, magick, mysticism, Love Chaos takes a holistic approach to transformation. A discussion with Dr. Manon Hedenborg White about the goddess Babalon, key women figures in the occult tradition of Thelema, challenging hegemonic notions of femininity, feminine sexuality, the link between sexual liberation and the larger goals of social, political, or psychological liberation, contemporary interpretations of Babalon that question binary and biologistic conceptions of gender, and many of the historical figures that have been influential in bringing forth this Babalon discourse into our contemporary world, such as Aleister Crowley, Jack Parsons, and Kenneth Grant. This sets the stage for a parade of sources from ancient Summerian and Canaanite mythology. We learn about the first ascent to Heaven by the Summerian king Etana, and then the Canaanite god Athar who tries to sit on Baal's throne.
The Red Goddess is devoted to establishing the history and mistique of the Thelemic composite pagan goddess "Babalon", which he correctly derives from Ishtar and Astarte. This evolution is for the most part well-researched and well reasoned from a Thelemic perspective, although Grey is critical of Crowley and seems to think that Babalon is too good for the Beast.
He's back! We talk "Terminator: Genisys," and then explore Arnold's softer side in "Maggie." Plus, the indie game "Red Goddess," and more!
