3 Martini Lunch
Tom Homan Lays Down the Law While Dems Keep Calling ICE Nazis

3 Martini Lunch

Join Jim and Greg for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch as they applaud Border Czar Tom Homan for plainly explaining what ICE actually does and the clear line opponents cannot cross. They also groan as Democrats and left-wing activists keep smearing ICE as Nazis and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani pushes sweeping tax hikes.First, they welcome Tom Homan's calm, clear breakdown of how ICE is enforcing the same immigration and deportation laws that have been on the books for decades. He also explains where activists should go if they want policy changes and what consequences await those who continue to obstruct ICE operations.Next, they scold elected Democrats, left-wing media figures, and celebrities for their reckless rhetoric comparing ICE agents to Nazis and even suggesting consequences for Americans who support President Trump's immigration enforcement agenda. Jim and Greg also have some fun putting these people in their place. Finally, they get a kick out of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani claiming the city's finances are worse than during the 2008 financial crisis to justify the same tax hikes on the wealthy and corporations that he pushed during the campaign. Jim points out the history of Democrats feigning shock in order to demand taking more of our money. Please visit our great sponsors:Try QUO for free, PLUS get 20% off your first 6 months when you visit https://Quo.com/3MLTake your personal data back with Incogni. CX Goalkeeper - Customer Experience, Business Transformation & Leadership
Redefining leadership at the intersection of transformation & technology with Fabian Ringwald - Live from Lead26

CX Goalkeeper - Customer Experience, Business Transformation & Leadership

This interview,Live from LEAD-26 in Zurich, links real leadership lessons to lived experience. Fabian, a CIO and ultra runner, talks limits, psychological safety, and practical steps. He also shares a clear, cautious view on generative AI and a smart fast follower strategy for regulated organizations. Key Learnings: Admit leadership limits: Openly share small, real limits with your team to build reflection and performance. Psychological safety matters: Create a safe team space so people speak up and help cover leadership gaps. Use smart fast follower: Experiment early, then buy enterprise-ready solutions to avoid costly long-term build and maintenance.   Summary:  Fabian Ringwald is the CIO of a Swiss health insurance company. He says they have the most satisfied customers in the industry. He is also a board member at lead 26 and helps shape conference content and speaker selection. Outside work he runs ultra trails. He runs over 100 kilometers and gains more than 6,000 meters of altitude. These runs can take more than 20 hours and include day and night. Night is more challenging. The long runs teach self-leadership and a clear view of personal limits. Fabian argues that every leader has limits. He says hiding limits wastes energy because close colleagues already see them. He encourages leaders to share limits openly with their teams. Open discussion builds self-reflection and helps form a high performance team. Teams can then help fill leadership gaps. He highlights psychological safety as the key trait that separates good leaders from great leaders. He recommends starting small when opening up. Share a minor limitation first, set an example, and scale openness gradually over time. Fabian says AI is not the solution for everything. He explains generative AI is a statistical tool and is not suited for fully deterministic tasks. He sees strong potential in areas like detecting anomalies on MRI or CT images, but he warns against using generative AI for direct medical advice. His company follows a smart fast follower strategy: experiment early with startups, then adopt enterprise-ready solutions rather than build long-lived custom systems. To keep agility, get top-down alignment with the board and enable bottom-up experiments with LLMs or ChatGPT for hands-on learning.   About Fabian Ringwald: CIO of SWICA - the leading Swiss health insurer with the most happy customers Prior: digital transformation in several different industries from freight railway (SBB Cargo), energy trading (BKW), consulting (Logica) to inustrial manufacturing (Siemens) and Ravensburger, the well known jigsaw puzzle company. Kimberly had never read Besson--and didn't know Ringwald was translating!--but she loved this brief, beautiful novel. Listen in as she touches on the very un-american phenomenon of autofiction, before diving into the fascinating structural choices, the beauty of the spare prose and why Besson is SO GOOD AT SEX WRITING. She'll even offer up interesting translation differences and the novel's details that Ringwald (mostly judiciously) chose to leave out.

New Release

This week on episode #221 of New Release … podcats Ashley and Drew revisit what some might say is the best worst decade in cinema history. That's right, it's 1985 and a select group of twenty-somethings are the hottest thing in Hollywood. Estevez, Ringwald, Nelson, Sheedy … am I forgetting anyone? Then, thanks to one well-titled magazine article, everything changed for these cats. Or did it? Andrew McCarthy's new documentary Brats obsessively examines the real—or really perceived—fallout over David Blum's infamous ‘Brat Pack' moniker. We question whether his thesis holds any weight or if McCarthy just needed a way to justify his fade into obscurity. Not everyone survived the 80s, man. You've been seeing yourself, getting to know what you look like, your whole life. So why does it often take an outsider to see things about you that are obvious, and set you straight? Prologue: Guest host Nancy Updike talks about learning something new, and unpleasant, about herself in, where else, a makeup store. She also talks with other people about moments where someone made an observation about them that was shocking. (8 minutes)Act One: Writer Domingo Martinez tells a story from his memoir, "The Boy Kings of Texas," about when he was forced to face how he might look in 20 years if he kept doing what he was doing. (12 minutes)Act Two: A man has a very clear vision of how he always stood up to his father, protected his mother and fought hard for the truth. Until one day he discovers actual raw data — secretly recorded conversations — that threaten to change his picture of everything. (12 minutes)Act Three: Nancy hears from Producer Ben Calhoun about the moment when the cool teacher in school told the girls they should pay attention to Ben, and they did. Also, Ira Glass interviews actress Molly Ringwald about what happened when she watched one of her own movies, "The Breakfast Club" with her daughter. Ringwald talks about how for the first time, she saw the movie from the parents' point of view, not the kids'. (19 minutes)Transcripts are available at thisamericanlife.org

Many researchers like to think of personalities as patterns of dynamic states. Thanks to technological advances, they can now measure the states and build statistical models from these measurements. Other researchers may have remained more sceptical: after all, isn't personality something relatively stable, by definition? Can state models really help us better understand how people differ from one another in their personality traits? Trying to make sense of this topic, René Mõttus speaks to three experts on the topic: Gabriela Harari, Kai Horstmann and Whitney Ringwald. They discuss what personality states are and how these relate to personality traits, the primary focus of personality research.
