The winner of Festivali i Këngës 63 is Shkodra Elektronike concisting of Kolë Laca and Beatriçe Gjergji and they will represent Albania at Eurovision 2025 with the song "Zjerm" in Semi Final 1 in the second half. Radio International will be taking a look at the national finals and showcase the highlights every week in the Eurovision Spotlight as Ross Bennett continues the series looking at the countries' selection shows of the past week.   Eurovision 2025 Song Preview - Germany: In view of the upcoming national final in Germany on 01 Mar 2025, Radio International will be introducing the competing songs on the show this week. Germany is part of the Big Five countries at the Eurovision Song Contest and with that directly qualified for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest  on 17 May 2025. Nine acts are battling it out for the ticket to Basel to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Let's get to know the songs on the show this week.   Melodifestivalen 2025: Sweden's national final is called Melodifestivalen and is the biggest one in the world of the Eurovision Song Contest. It is the 65th edition and is produced by Swedish broadcaster SVT. 30 entries out of 2794 submitted songs made it to the shows. The 30 entries will take part in the competition across five heats. Each heat consists of six songs, with the top two songs directly qualifying for the final. Unlike in the previous edition, only the third-placing song will proceed to a final qualification round at the end of the fifth heat, which will now feature five songs instead of ten. The top two songs in the final qualification will then progress to the final, which will comprise 12 songs. The winner of the final will be determined by the usual 50/50 combination of votes from the public and an international jury. Congratulations go to Andria Putkaradze winning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 for Georgia with the song "To My Mom" Radio International's roving reporter Alain Forrotti has been on location in Madrid and chatted with two of the 17 young acts you will hear on the show this week. Victoria Nicole from Portugal reached second place at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "Esperança" receiving 213 points. The second young artist Alain chatted with is Simone Grande who represented Italy this year with the song "Pigiama Party" coming 9th on the Grand Final Scoreboard. The public and jury already cast their votes as well. Visit the website of the Home Composed Song Contest - click here The Home Composed Song Contest is in its 33rd year, this is a competition for Eurovision fans who write, perform and produce their own music, who enter their own original song composition (audio only) and then also take part as a jury, to help choose the winning song. It was in 2011 with the song "Na Inat" which unfortunately did not qualify for the Grand Final in Duesseldorf, ending up at Number 12 in Semi Final 2. But then Poli returned to the Eurovision Song Contest with a BANG! "If love was a crime" achieved Bulgaria's best-ever result at the contest being Number 4 which was bettered a year later by Kristian Kostov as he came second.  In 2015, Poli was the Host of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Sofia, Bulgaria and as a musician she also released a number of songs and has been involved in a few projects. Radio International had the pleasure to meet Poli Genova at the OGAE Germany Annual Convention 2024 in January and did an interview you can hear on this week's edition of Radio International.      Eurovision Spotlight - The History of Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest: The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 was won by Nemo who represented Switzerland in Malmoe, Sweden this year with the song "The Code". With that victory Nemo took the contest back to Switzerland where it all begun in 1956 with the late Lys Assia from Switzerland being the first Winner of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Refrain". Celine Dion from Canada represented and won for Switzerland with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi" in 1988 giving Switzerland three victories. As a tradition the Team of Radio International reviews all the Eurovision entries of the upcoming host country and this week Ross Bennett continues the new series in the Eurovision Spotlight taking a look at the Swiss entries to Eurovision. The Winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is Nemo for Switzerland with the song "The Code". Rosa Linn represented Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with the song "Snap" which came 20th in the competition but actually won as the song went viral online after the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with having way more streams than the winning song. Salman met Rosa Linn at the London Eurovision PreParty and interviewed the young singer. JP had the pleasure to meet up with Tajci in Malmoe during the Eurovision Week to interview the singer who represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest 1990 with the song "Hajde da ludujemo" coming 7th. Germany is together with Italy, Spain, France and the United Kingdom part of the Big 5 and directly placed in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest. On Radio International this week we have the big pleasure to welcome to the show the winner of the German National Final - Isaak who will represent Germany with the song "Always on the run", in Malmoe. Both; the Juries and the public voted for Isaak. The Interview Panel of Radio International is looking forward to welcoming Isaak to the show to get to know the young artist from Germany. Eurovision Spotlight - The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 - National Final Season: Sweden will be hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 which will be the 68th contest in its history coming once again from the Malmoe Arena, Malmoe, Sweden on 07 & 09 May 2024 for the two Semi Finals and the Grand Final scheduled for Saturday 11 May 2024. Many participating countries to the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 are holding their selection shows across Europe and each week on Radio International we take a look at the ongoing selection processes and play some of the highlights from the National Finals and songs that actually will be selected to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmoe. Ross Bennett will be reviewing the selection processes over the last week and you hear some of the songs on the show this week. Melodifestivalen 2024 - Heat 2 Allstarz Melodifestivalen 2024 - Heat 2: 2624 songs were submitted to Swedish Television (SVT) for Melodifestivalen 2024. The selection was narrowed down to 30 acts which were distributed onto five heats. 12 songs will be competing in the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2024 on 06 Mar 2024 in Stockholm's Friends Arena. The winner of that show will then represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. On 03 Feb 2024 saw the first of five heats taking place and with that starting the Melodifestivalen 2024 Roadshow. Radio International's JP and Ludvig were in Gothenburg at Heat 2 having had the pleasure of chatting with all six acts during the rehearsals and after the live broadcast. Liamoo qualified directly to the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2024 with the song "Dragon". Maria Sur also won a place in the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2024 after winning the Heat 2 voting and will perform her song "When you are gone" in Stockholm. On the show this week Radio International airs an interview with newcomer C-Joe who placed 4th with the song "Ahumma" as well as Engmans Kapell who placed 5th with the song "Norrland" and ode to the region in the North of Sweden. The Home Composed Song Contest 2023:  The annual music competition for non-professional musicians takes place again and is already in full swing. The public and jury already cast their votes as well. Visit the website of the Home Composed Song Contest 2023 - click here The Home Composed Song Contest is in its 32nd year, this is a competition for Eurovision fans who write, perform and produce their own music, who enter their own original song composition (audio only) and then also take part as a jury, to help choose the winning song. This year there are 27 songs from 13 different European countries, and you can listen to the songs, and read the lyrics and bios on the official website. The Radio International Team once again formed one Jury and you will be able to hear the songs also on Radio International - The Ultimate Eurovision Experience this and next week as the second hour of each show is devoted to the Home Composed Song Contest 2023. The Busker won and represented Malta at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. Paul Giordimaina together with Georgina represented Malta at Eurovision in 1991 with the song "Could it be" coming 6th. Mike Spiteri represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 with the song "Keep me in mind" coming 10th. Then Ludwig Galea together with Julie performed "On again ... Off again" at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 coming 12th and finally Moira Stafrace with her husband Chris represented Malta at Eurovision 1994 coming 5th with the song "More than love". Chris sadly passed away in Feb 2022. Then in 1985 as part of a group when Ireen Sheer, Margo, Frank Olivier, Chris & Malcolm Roberts, Diane Solomon sang "Children, Kinder, Enfants" coming 13th. Ireen, of British decent, also represented Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 1978 with the song "Feuer" ranking 6th. Ireen has a large number of hits in the German Music Market from the 70s onwards and has a huge fanbase in Germany. Despite of this she recently retired from the music business. Radio International's JP with Marc and Salman had the pleasure of an in-depth interview with Ireen Sheer which was not yet broadcast on Radio International. From the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2023 there is Andre Portelli.    Toto Cutugno (Eurovision Winner 1990, Italy and Eurovision Host 1990) Tribute to Toto Cutugno (Eurovision Winner 1990, Italy): The Eurovision World received sad news on 22 Aug 2023 of the passing away of Eurovision Winner 1991 - Toto Cutugno who won the Eurovision Song Contest 1990 for Italy with "Insieme". The year after in 1991 together with the Eurovision Winner of 1964 Gigliola Cinquetto, Toto hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in a most memorable way. He was a singer and songwriter and wrote many songs for other artists but also performed classics at the Italian San Remo Song Festival. One more memorable entry there was "L'Italiano" that came 5th in the 1983 edition of San Remo. Now Toto has passed away at the age of 80 after a long illness in hospital. Rest in Peace Toto. Many of the previous Maltese entrants returned to the stage in Malta's Fairs and Convention Centre to perform their Maltese Eurovision entries once more. Malta has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 34 times since its debut in 1971 and has yet to win the contest. It is the only non-winning country to have achieved four top three results. JP will play some of the highlights of Malta's Eurovision entries and give more information in this special hour and especially in view of the upcoming 2023 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on 09 and 11 February 2023 when Glen Vella (Malta 2011) and Amber (Malta 2015) will be hosting the Semi Final and the Grand Final.
