The energy regulator Ofgem says suppliers must take urgent action to find out how widespread a problem back billing is. It's when suppliers send out new bills for electricity and gas from longer than 12 months ago, a practice that was banned in 2018. The development follows Money Box's investigation which discovered thousands of people have wrongly been receiving back bills. Paul Lewis interviews Tim Jarvis, Director General of Markets at Ofgem. And unspent pension pots will be subject to inheritance tax from 2027. This change, announced by Rachel Reeves in the Autumn Budget, means most unused pension funds will be included within the value of a person's estate for Inheritance Tax purposes from 6th April 2027. Money Box has been getting lots of emails from listeners who're now reconsidering their financial planning and are worried and upset about the new rules. The Treasury told us it continues to incentivise pensions savings for their intended purpose of funding retirement instead of them being openly used as a vehicle to transfer wealth. But how will the new rules work?Presenter: Paul Lewis Reporters: Dan Whitworth and Sarah Rogers Researcher: Eimear Devlin Editor: Jess Quayle(First broadcast 12pm Saturday 22nd February 2025)

If you've ever read the classic book Endurance, you probably shivered and shuddered as you wondered what it would have been like to have undertaken Ernest Shackleton's famously arduous Antarctic rescue mission. The adventurer Tim Jarvis did more than wonder. When Alexandra Shackleton challenged him to re-create her grandfather's epic journey, he jumped at the chance to follow in the legendary explorer's footsteps.Today on the show, Tim, the author of Chasing Shackleton: Re-creating the World's Greatest Journey of Survival, first shares the story of Shackleton's heroic effort to save the crew of his failed Antarctic expedition. Tim then tells us how he and his own crew replicated Shackleton's journey over land and sea, from taking the same kind of rowboat to eating the same kind of rations — and the lessons in resilience and leadership he learned along the way.Resources Related to the PodcastEndurance by Alfred LansingShackleton's apocryphal recruiting advertisement AoM Article: Leadership Lessons from Ernest ShackletonAoM Article: What They Left and What They Kept — What an Antarctic Expedition Can Teach You About What's Truly ValuableAoM Article: Alone — Lessons on Solitude From an Antarctic ExplorerAoM Article: The Libraries of Famous Men — Ernest ShackletonConnect With Tim JarivsTim's websiteTim on IGTim on LinkedIn

They then climbed over South Georgia's mountainous interior, all whilst wearing period clothing and using the same rudimentary equipment and technology that Shackleton used.Tim has used his platform and influence for good. In this episode, I'm chatting with Dr. Tim Jarvis, director of Fullers Bookshop, about taking over the 103-year-old bookshop, local authors, what to see around Hobart, and books!Fullers Bookshop was established in 1920, by W. E. (Bill) Fuller, in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. In 1961 the shop was taken over by Cedric and Ian Pearce, famous not only as booksellers but also as jazz musicians. In 1980, when Cedric became ill, the shop was purchased by Ian Drinkwater. Ian moved Fullers to Murray St in 1981.Clive Tilsley bought Fullers in 1982 and 1992 and moved the bookshop back to Collins Street. In 1996 the Afterword Café was established on the mezzanine level of the shop – this moved Fullers onto another level of business. In 2001, Fullers opened a second shop in Launceston in the north of the state, where Clive spent 13 years establishing the brand in a very competitive book-buying market. In 2009 the Hobart shop moved again – up the road to a bright new space (with a fabulous view of the mountain). In 2014, Fullers sold its Launceston shop, and at the same time, Clive moved back to Hobart. In the 30 years under Clive's guidance, Fullers has confirmed its status as a leading bookseller in Tasmania and a fundamental component of the cultural landscape of the state. In 2021 Tim Jarvis took over ownership, steering the bookshop through the pandemic, and continuing the tradition of Fullers Bookshop being a hub of the community, offering a wide range of author events, readings, books clubs, and publishing. Fullers BookshopFullers Bookshop Book ClubRichard FlanaganJames DryburghPrue BattenBob Brown FoundationPete HayLucinda Wine BarDier Makr RestaurantThe Little Lotus Vegan and Vegetarian RestaurantMONASunbear CoffeeThe Internet Is Not What You Think It Is, Justin E. In this episode of the Engage Video Marketing Podcast we’ll be exploring the idea of having a lead generation machine working for your business. A system for your marketing and sales and building a sustainable business with the right clients coming to you. My guest today is Tim Jarvis from UK based Film & Content. Tim has 15 years of experience working within the world of video marketing - both on the production and marketing side of the industry. Back in 2010, after heading-up the digital marketing for a professional sports club in the UK, Tim decided the time was right to start his own business. From his grandmother's spare bedroom, he started a video production company that - in the space of 7 years - grew to employing 35 full time members of staff and working with many of the world's leading brands including Estee Lauder, Honda, the International Olympic Committee, many Sporting Governing Bodies, several of the UK's Government Departments and hundreds of other blue chips. Today, Tim consults with and implements video marketing strategies for some of the world's biggest companies ranging from Premier League Football (Soccer) Clubs, to one of the Big 4 Accountancy Firms, to the world's leading energy provider. But his passion for sales and marketing - and experience within the production world - has allowed him to build RETAIN™, where he teaches video production professionals around the world to develop and execute simple, but powerful, sales and marketing strategies that attract highly profitable contracts and, most importantly, converts them on to long-term contracts, or retainers. Tim has seen too many talented production professionals struggle with the project-by-project business model that plagues the video industry. His work within RETAIN, his courses and his free training is all centred around his goal of relieving stress from the world of video production professionals. Stress that he has felt first-hand and seen so many within the industry face on a daily basis.  But stress that can so easily be avoided. Outside of work, Tim is married to his wonderful wife, Zoe, and has three children; Corey, Orlaith and Lacey.  They live on the south coast of the UK in Brighton & Hove.  He loves his sport - particularly Cricket, Football (Soccer) and Golf. Sir Ernest Shackleton wanted to be the first man to walk across the Antarctic continent. In 1914, with a crew of 28 men, he set sail on the Endurance to complete the first “Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition." But harsh winds and frigid temperatures threatened the voyage from the start, and in short order the ship was marooned thousands of miles away from civilization. Shackleton suddenly realized a different task was at hand – keeping his crew alive. A team of restless seamen who quickly run out of food, patience, and hope. In this episode of Teamistry, host Gabriela Cowperthwaite travels back in time to discover the surprisingly modern leadership skills of Shackleton, like emotional intelligence and empathy. Hear from the diary of one of the crew to get a sense of the uncertainty and fear the seamen grappled with, and listen as Nancy Koehn, a historian and professor at the Harvard Business School, walks you through the pivotal moments when Shackleton's superior decision-making helped him salvage the expedition and hold the hearts of his men. Also, Tim Jarvis, an explorer who recreated some of Shackleton's journey, discusses how Shackleton's strategies can help us face climate change, and Thomas H. Zurbuchen talks about how he applies Shackleton's leadership lessons at NASA's Science Mission Directorate. Teamistry is an original podcast from Atlassian. In order to authentically recreate two epic journeys by Sir Douglas Mawson and Sir Ernest Shackleton, from the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration, Tim willingly stripped himself of all modern equipment and undertook these expeditions with the same clothes and gear that his predecessors used in the early 1900s. What to pack for an expedition to Antarctica? Or to keep yourself alive on a remote mountainside? In extreme conditions, clothes move way beyond fashion to become tools for survival.   In this Episode, you get to hang out with environmental scientist, polar explorer, author and adventurer Tim Jarvis, a man for whom pushing himself to the limits of his physical endurance is all in a day's work. But Tim doesn't undertake his incredible expeditions just to prove he's tough; he does it for a higher purpose - to spread the word about climate change, and show us how some of the remotest regions on Earth are being impacted by global warming. In 1992, at the time of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, 25 mountains at the equator had a glacier. Most of these glaciers will be melted completely away within 25 years. Enter Tim's project 25-Zero. With support from travel and adventure brand Kathmandu, Tim and a team of climbers and filmmakers have been documenting rapid, irreversible melting. In this interview, Tim shares what he's seen of climate change on his travels and what we can expect in future if we continue to emit carbon pollution at current rates. Scary quote: "We will have ice-free Arctic Ocean by the mid 2030s." Loads of kids dream of beging explorers when they grow up, but few actually do it. What made Tim the exception? What are some of the crazier expeditions he's undertaken? How does he re-integrate himself into society after he's been away? We dig deep on inspiration and the pull of the extraordinary life, and finding yourself in the wilderness. We discuss climate grief, and staying motivated. Tim explains why he's encouraging kids to embrace Nature. Oh, and we dabble in the mysteries of the universe. Are you ready for a grand adventure? This show is brought to you by Kathmandu. The American writer H.P. Lovecraft wrote weird fiction. His work is both weird, in the conventional sense of the word, and Weird, in a more specific sense. His tales are not typical horror stories, but instead invoke a type of cosmic terror, a slow realization that humanity is an insignificant afterthought in a vast universe of indescribably horrific creatures. Protagonists tend to write their stories on the verge of madness, or just before they commit suicide, having uncovered an unspeakable truth. His writing is all about atmosphere, not plot. Lovecraft has been enormously influential on the development of genre fiction – science fiction, fantasy, and particularly horror. His is a world, a mythos, in which cosmic entities such as Cthulhu are terrifyingly revealed. This all may seem incredibly niche, but Lovecraft has permeated popular culture in every form. Lovecraft's work is referenced, supplemented, parodied, critiqued, documented and dissected. Cthulhu, along with a pantheon of other cosmic creatures, is a source of fascination for huge numbers of people, especially online. It’s pretty safe to say the internet is a bit obsessed with HP Lovecraft. And it is also all a bit, well, weird, if you haven’t really come across it before. This episode explores the world of Lovecraft, Lovecraftian writing, and weird fiction. My guest is Dr Tim Jarvis, lecturer in English literature at the University of Bedfordshire, and an author of weird fiction himself. The story takes us from early 20th century America to contemporary writers, such as Jeff Vandermeer and China Mieville, writing weird fiction today.
