We are back! After a bit of a break, your favorite college football podcast has returned! Some new voices have joined the show with the departures of Dan Wetzel and Pat Forde. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey join Ross Dellenger for College Football Enquirer's newest version! There was quite a bit of news that happened while we were away, so it's time to catch up. Schools can pay athletes directly now. Revenue sharing has arrived! This has already caused an immediate shift in the college football landscape and schools are taking full advantage. One team who is capitalizing on that is Vanderbilt. Huge hype and ticket prices have followed. How has this change affected the college landscape? Has it changed for the better? These questions and more are what Andy, Ross and Steven answer. As athletes continue to get paid, guardrails around how they can be paid continue to be developed. Enter the College Sports Commission. This commission is supposed to make sure there is fairness across the board in how athletes are being paid. How exactly they are doing that is a bit more complicated. Luckily, Ross can break it all down.Another huge change on the horizon has to do with the transfer portal. This topic has been discussed at length. Should there only be one portal window rather than two? When should that be? Change is coming and while there is some disagreement among conferences for when the portal window should open, a shift appears imminent. The guys explain what the change may look like, and they give their takes on when the portal should open.We are just a few weeks away from the start of the season, so naturally we have to talk about what coaches are hoping to still have a job by the end of the season. While some coaches' buyouts are too big for them to have any concern this year, others do not have that luxury. Texas Tech's Joey McGuire and Oklahoma's Brent Venables are two coaches that look to be in win now situations. The guys discuss the coaches' futures with their respective programs. They also dive into how the new college landscape of paying players may have led to some coaches' jobs being saved. Finally, Andy, Ross and Steven take a look at some upset ready matchups in the Week 1 slate. Are Boise St., Mississippi St. and Kentucky on upset watch? The guys chat about what they are looking at in those Week 1 games.A jam-packed episode of College Football Enquirer begins now. Welcome back! (5:10) - Paying athletes(16:43) - College Sports Commission(28:01) - Transfer Portal changes(44:46) - Coaching hot seat(1:20:42) - Week 1 Upset Watch List

Local, award-winning author Kevin Wilson has deep Tennessee roots: he grew up in Franklin County, attended Vanderbilt, and today, teaches at Sewanee: The University of the South. Earlier this year, he released his latest novel, Run for the Hills. Like much of his work, the story considers the, (sometimes unexpected) ways “family” can come to be. He sat down with "This Is Nashville" to read an excerpt of his new release, talk about his upbringing in Tennessee and share his thoughts about why fiction writing is important in today's world (and how, in his mind, it shares some similarities with professional wrestling). This episode was produced by Cynthia Abrams. Relevant reading: Wilson is the author of seven books: Tunneling to the Center of the Earth, The Family Fang, Perfect Little World, Baby, You're Gonna Be Mine, Nothing to See Here, Now Is Not the Time to Panic and Run for the Hills. If you're more of a movie-goer than a reader, Wilson's first novel, The Family Fang, was adapted into a feature film (produced and starred in by another Middle Tennessee dweller, Nicole Kidman).
The Solid Verbal: SEC Preview Part 3 - The Wild Cards We close out our three-part SEC preview by taking a closer look at Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Arkansas, South Carolina, Auburn, and Vanderbilt. In this college football preview episode, we ask burning questions about eight SEC teams that could swing wildly in either direction this season. Is Florida poised for a big jump with a (finally) healthy DJ Lagway navigating one of the most brutal schedules in the country? Will the addition of quarterback John Mateer and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle lead Oklahoma back to prominence, or is their monster schedule too much to overcome? Is 2025 a stepback year for Josh Heupel and Tennessee after losing key offensive pieces, or can their elite defense carry them? We examine Texas A&M as a legitimate playoff contender behind Marcel Reed's dual-threat ability and a physical rushing attack that could punish teams late in games. We discuss whether Sam Pittman can do enough to keep his job at Arkansas with Taylen Green leading a completely revamped receiving corps and a defense that struggled mightily in pass coverage. We analyze if LaNorris "The Creator" Sellers and pass-rushing phenom Dylan Stewart have enough of a supporting cast around them to lift South Carolina after massive bigtime turnover. Plus, we debate how much we should believe in Jackson Arnold's fresh start at Auburn with an elite receiving corps but lingering questions about offensive line stability, and what to make of Vanderbilt, which brings back tons of production from their magical 2024 season but will no longer be able to fly under the radar. From Florida's injury concerns to A&M's playoff potential to Vandy's encore attempt, this is your guide to the SEC's X-factors that could completely change the conference landscape. The 8am hour of Friday's Mac & Cube continued with Wes Mitchell, from Gamecock Central & On3 Sports, telling us where the ceiling is for this team's defense, why the staff quietly feels good about their WR core, and what part of LaNorris Sellers's game could make the biggest leap in 2025; then, is it all that odd that Diego Pavia's and Vanderbilt's expectations are to win a national championship; later, Matthew Byrne, who covers Arkansas for the Democrat-Gazette, says how new a lot of the team will look this year, how Taylen Green can make a leap in year 2 under Petrino, and what the biggest strength of the Razorbacks will be; and finally, Cole & Greg say why the thing Arkansas needs the most is consistency. Shellee empathizes with the exhaustion and emotional toll parents experience while helping their children navigate the complex and often overwhelming college admissions process. She stresses the importance of parental involvement, understanding adolescent brain development, and providing emotional and strategic support during this pivotal life transition.Shellee discusses the escalating costs of college tuition, citing Vanderbilt University's tuition exceeding $100,000 annually as an example of rising financial pressures. She contrasts this with her personal success using strategic planning to help her children and many other students gain admission to top-tier colleges with substantial scholarships, allowing them to graduate debt-free. Her approach emphasizes individualized strategies tailored to each student's strengths, including test preparation, community service, leadership, and securing strong letters of recommendation. The College Ready Plan has helped thousands of families secure scholarships from various sources—institutional, independent, and need-based—highlighting that scholarships are available to any family willing to invest the necessary effort, not just those with financial need. Shellee encourages parents to take an active role in the college planning and financial aid processes rather than leaving these decisions to their teenagers, who often lack awareness of the long-term impact of student debt. Finally, she invites parents feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about college admissions to reach out for guidance, offering a complimentary 30-minute discovery call to discuss personalized strategies for getting their child into their best-fit college while minimizing debt.Highlights
Recorded: July 28th 2025 | This week on Bussin’ With The Boys, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan have on the legendary Theo Von! From deep thoughts to deep woods, Theo takes us on a ride through his fasting-fueled introspections, sketch comedy chaos, and SEC football hot takes. We kick things off with a fun intro discussing Dieon Sanders news, and the upcoming Bussin’ Bowl Live Show. After our electric intro, the Theo interview kicks off starting with Theo sharing about his current fast… yeah, he’s starving, but it’s got him thinking deep. He opens up about how not eating for days makes his mind sharper and his soul weirder, and how it’s even made him re-evaluate his dream guests on This Past Weekend. He hopes to have an episode with The Pope and Marilyn Monroe. Theo also drops a bombshell: he was approached to be in Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ on Netflix but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. The boys chop it up about Theo’s long-time friendship with Bobby Lee and the success of his True Friends podcast. He reflects on the early years of grinding in LA, podcasting before it was cool, and what it was like trying to find his voice while bouncing off other now-huge comics. The boys also talk about Theo’s viral “Digger” sketch with Shane Gillis and Druski, breaking down the behind-the-scenes chaos and what it’s like working with comedy heavyweights. Then things get outdoorsy as Theo talks about his fun camping trip with none other than Glenny Balls and the owner of Jimmy John’s Sandwiches. We even get a heartfelt moment as Theo opens up about his friendship with UFC star Dustin Poirier, sharing some behind-the-scenes stories and what it means to know a guy who's still as real as they come. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Bussin’ episode without some football talk. Theo, Will, and Taylor break down their bold predictions for the upcoming SEC season, roasting a few teams along the way and throwing out some sleeper picks you probably didn’t see coming. 0:00 Intro3:23 Bussin Bowl Live Show11:26 Taylor’s Bday Present16:31 Will’s Trip To Canada30:56 Madden 99 Club45:23 Lewan BBQ Party58:49 Happy Gilmore 2 Was A Hit1:11:26 Deion Sanders Health Issues1:18:51 NFLPA Drama 1:29:07 THEO VON INTERVIEW STARTS 1:29:09 The F Word Has Become More Popular1:31:23 Theo Lost His Smile1:33:11 Growing Up In Louisiana 1:34:57 Does He Feel That He Always NeedsTo Be Funny?1:37:05 This Past Weekend Podcast1:50:27 White Whale Guests1:54:51 The Diggers Movie?2:01:23 Glenny Balls & Theo Went Camping 2:10:01 Huge SEC Fan2:14:41 His Relationship With Bobby Lee And Andrew Santino2:18:09 Happy Gilmore 2 Approached Him?2:23:11 Vanderbilt & Diego Pavia Expectations2:34:50 Fear In Leaving Barstool?2:41:05 Those Who Suffer Before Necessary Suffer More Than Necessary 2:46:59 Breaking Away From Kast Media2:55:11 Going Early To UFC Fights3:04:26 Bud Light: What Would You Do Anything For?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Southeastern 16's Jay Greeson and Chris Lee preview Vanderbilt's 2025 football season. Topics include: Diego Pavia was one of the most exciting players in college football player, leading Vanderbilt to a winning season and a stunning upset of Alabama. On one hand, Vanderbilt turned the ball over the fewest number of times in the country, and film is out on Pavia, making repeating that unlikely at face value. On the other hand, Vanderbilt invested in a much-better offensive line to protect him, and Pavia spent the second half of last season playing banged up as his numbers declined. With better protection and maybe fewer carries, a healthier Pavia could negate all that and then some. But outside All-American tight end Eli Stowers, is the supporting cast of running backs and receivers good enough for the SEC? Defensively, Vanderbilt is bigger and deeper up front, has stars in linebacker Bryan Longwell, defensive back Randon Fontenette and cornerback Martel Hight, who's joined by a much-deeper cornerback group this year than was the case last season. The Commodores are better on paper a year ago. Will a brutal schedule allow for bowl eligibility again?
Has Nashville turned into a “theme park of intoxication”? That's what Vanderbilt professor Bruce Barry thinks. In a recent article for “The Tennessee Lookout,” he argued that the city is “on the move but running in place.” Today, he joins host Marie Cecile Anderson to talk about the state of downtown — its aggressive growth, declining inclusivity for locals, and what the future may hold for our city.
