Check out the Key Resources section for ticket information ** Have you ever thought that certain personality types do better than others when it comes to B2B sales? You’re not alone… in fact, there are differences in the ways that certain personality types show up in their sales activity… and they can help and hinder your success. But instead of trying to change your personality, I’ve decided to share the most common personality types that I’ve seen whilst training over 12,000 people - and how you can maximise your personality to make more sales. After all, we can’t all sell in exactly the same way… so if you’re interested in finding out the part that your personality plays in your sales process, how it helps you and how it could be holding you back (plus focus areas for improvement!) then take a listen now. In this episode, I’ll be sharing; A quick overview of why there are four key personalities - and how to know if you’re a rare combination or not! (04:38) Whether it’s problematic to have a personality (and show it to stakeholders) when you’re selling your services to corporate companies. (05:55) Why we have to stop letting our personality type be the obstacle that stops us from selling successfully to corporate organisations. (07:16) Are you a ‘Wanda’ overview (09:26) Why ‘Wanda’s’ can get stuck with proposal writing and creating clear sales opportunities. (10:41) The best sales skill for a ‘Wanda’ - and how you can use it to your advantage in the B2B sales process. (12:25) How developing your consultative sales skills can give ‘Wanda’s’ the biggest advantage over their competitors. (14:47) Why ‘Olga’s’ are a classic sales personality type (17:29) Why theoretical sales concepts will keep you stuck and stop you making the sales you need. (18:10) The area that ‘Olga’s’ excel - and why it’ll give you an added edge over your competition. (20:17) How best practice business development skills will really bring an ‘Olga’ to the top of their potential close rates. (22:03) How ‘Olga’s’ can overcome their overthinking tendencies and take immediate action (24:01) What is a ‘Dan’ personality - and why I’m a very clear ‘Dan’ (26:00) How ‘Dan’s’ can often be misconstrued or misunderstood in the sales process - and how to work on it (27:23) Where ‘Dan’s’ excel… and why they’re more likely to close proposals quickly. (30:43) Why ‘Dan’s’ need to work on gaining multiple internal champions - and how to make that happen. (32:07) How to know if you’re a ‘Kieran’ - and why it’s super common in salespeople. (33:45) Why ‘Kieran’s’ will often use optimism to predict their B2B sales outcomes (34:53) Fast action plus foundational strategy - and how it can help ‘Kieran’s’ outperform their competition. (36:30) How metrics will save a ‘Kieran’ from missing out on sales opportunities. This episode, as always, is brought to you by the law offices of E. Jason Blankenship, who may be socially distanced from the courthouse but is still taking on clients. You can find his new website here. You can follow Connor on Twitter and subscribe to his newsletter, A Lonely Impulse of Delight, that includes literary analysis of Calvin & Hobbes and, blissfully, nothing about Michigan athletics. Dan is not a writer but he is @ThiccStauskas on Twitter. If you’d like to hear more, the two co-host the newly titled Yet Another Michigan Football Podcast. Alex Cook you know from his writings here, and his blog about The Grand Castle. [Writeup after the jump] SEGMENT ONE: ILLINOIS POSTMORTEM Well, that sucked. Illinois guard penetration, Kofi Cockburn, and the Illini aggressively defending to keep the ball on one side of the floor all had major impacts in the loss. Can other teams repeat this? Should we be concerned? How do we feel about a potential postseason rematch? This felt like an extreme low-end outcome, ultimately. SEGMENT TWO: READYING FOR THE RIVALRY Previewing the home-and-home against MSU. Are we worried about the teams’ respective momentum? A very different matchup than Illinois, which should play in Michigan’s favor, save perhaps for the part where MSU has a lot of fouls to throw at Hunter Dickinson. Alex renders Ace briefly speechless by asking which MSU players are good for their roles. SEGMENT THREE: FOOTBALL STUFF IS GOING… WELL? Dan talks us through the additions of top-flight corner Will Johnson, big receiver Tay’shawn Trent, and quarterback transfer Alan Bowman. He also catches us up on a couple other key in-state recruitments and his twitter beef with MSU 247 Mods. Alex notes the likely inspiration for Trent’s first name and it goes over the Philly guy’s head. Why Dan’s Philly roots have allowed him to easily embrace the MSU rivalry. We may have taken some tangents in this one. Songs: “Unbroken, Unshaven”—The Budos Band “Work” — Gang Starr

We have Dan Norris on the show today, and he’s someone who has accomplished quite a lot, with a somewhat different approach to marketing. He focuses on four core pillars: branding, community, storytelling, and content marketing. In this episode, we do a deep dive into all four of those. After founding WP Curve, which was subsequently sold to GoDaddy, Dan started a new venture, Black Hops Brewing in Australia. You’ll hear Dan discuss how he has created one of the biggest and well-known brands in his country (voted the #1`craft brewery in Australia), all with basically no ad spend.  There’s a similar thread in the way he’s marketed both his WP Curve brand and his craft beer brand, and it all comes down to his concept of Compound Marketing, which is also the basis behind his new book. When you’re done, check out our conversation with Lisa Cherney for more content strategies and how to be real to your audience even if that means being putting off others, and get some advice from Anthony Constantino, who also runs a super fun company that really resonates with his customers. “It helps to take this approach where you’ve got these things compounding behind the scenes without you necessarily having to do a whole lot. I see our competitors buying billboards and doing paid ads and I’m glad we don’t have to do all that.” - Dan Norris   Some Topics We Discussed Include: Taking a bath in beer? His version of events and what he thinks looking back at his actions. For his role in the action at the Battle of Derapet the citation for the Victoria Cross reads: ‘For the most conspicuous acts of gallantry and extreme devotion to duty in action in circumstances of great peril'.   We then talk discharge from the Army in 2011, when Dan commenced work in the mining industry. Initially working in exploration drilling throughout Western Australia and then as an underground shotfirer (blaster) in a gold mine outside of Kalgoorlie. It was in his cottage in Kalgoorlie that he received notification that the Chief of Army was coming to visit him. In the tiny lounge at Kalgoorlie Airport, the Chief of Army handed him an envelope…. The contents of that envelope would change his life. In 2015, Dan returned to his home state of Queensland and completed his MBA- we talk about this and life with a VC, but beyond the military.   Intelligence Summary (INTSUM) 01:30        Dan's back again in Afghanistan…. Dan is the Co-Founder and Chief Grain Officer of ReGrained, a mission-driven ingredient platform that leverages technology and culinary science to transform beer waste into food. Dan is an entrepreneurial systems thinker and loves tackling seemingly intractable problems through creative entrepreneurship and cross-sectoral collaboration. Through ReGrained, he has become a thought-leader about food waste business models, "edible upcycling" and the circular economy for food. ReGrained has:-Forbes 30 under 30: Food and Beverage (2018) -Won Slow Money NorCal's Food Funded Pitch Competition (2017) -Finalist at FoodBytes! (2016) -Finalist at SXSW Eco-Reuse and Recycling Sector (2016) -Burt's Bees Natural Launchpad (2016) -Won a sustainable innovation award at Sustainable Brands 2016 and was selected for Burt's Bees Natural Product Launchpad. Dan holds an MBA in Sustainable Business from Presidio Graduate School and a BA in Economics from UCLA. More on ReGrained: ReGrained better aligns the food we eat with the planet we love. They are an ingredient platform created to promote an innovative model of food production that they've coined as “Edible Upcycling.” Powered by patent-pending technology, they reimagine perceived ends as beginnings by finding nutritious food streams that are currently being treated as inedible and render them into delicious and healthy food. They rescue these overlooked but awesome ingredients and put them back to work. Their goal: To improve the way we value food and the resources that support all life Their initial focus: Upcycling the nutritious grain created every time that beer is brewed. In the U.S. alone, billions of pounds of this latent supply chain are available every year. Brewing beer processes the sugar out of the grain. This gives them optimal access to protein, fiber, and micronutrients. They upcycle this grain into ReGrained flour. They incorporate this sustainable, delicious, and nutritious ingredient into every ReGrained product, starting with SuperGrain+ Bars wrapped in innovative 100% backyard compostable packaging. Their mission doesn’t stop at waste ─ they are a Certified B Corp and support environmental conservation and social impact through 1% for the Planet. With the world in its current state, it’s hard to remain positive. But to survive, we have to continue to find the beauty however we can and be inspired by the good. Our guest today, Dan Ubick, is not only an extraordinarily talented musician, but he is also a shining light in these dark times. As a producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, Dan grew up with music. His father was a jazz bassist, and his mom listened to the Beatles and classical music while designing jewelry. Dan’s sister introduced him to hip hop, and the rest is history. With an impressive discography, Dan has worked with everyone from De La Soul to Big Daddy Kane to Method Man. In this episode, we talk about Dan’s incredible musical journey. As someone who values friendships and connections, they have always opened up great opportunities for him. We also do a deep dive into the world of hip hop, and Dan and host Sourdough share their experiences of discovering the genre and the impact that it had on them. Listening to hip hop was a formative experience for both of them. They learned about new worlds and issues they'd not been exposed to before. They also discuss how the foundation of hip hop is being diluted, which they attribute to the kind of capitalist society we live in. It has become about growing wealth at whatever cost, rather than remaining true to a message. Dan and Sourdough extend this discussion by touching on politics and the harsh capitalist message being spread today. The world is growing increasingly unkind to many, while a select few benefit disproportionately. Along with this, we also talk about the importance of acknowledging those who came before you, why creating with integrity is more important than being famous, and the many activities that Dan is up to. We loved having Dan on the show, and we already can’t wait to have him back. Be sure to tune in today! Key Points From This Episode: How Man One and Sourdough are holding up during coronavirus. Find out what Dan’s typical week looks like as a multi-talented musician. Dan’s upbringing and his early formative musical influences from his dad and sister. The power of connection: How Dan got his musical start through friendships. Where Dan draws his inspiration from and why he gravitates to the music he does. How the music industry has changed and the difficulties musicians face making a living. Learn how often Dan looks for records and some of the DJ gigs he plays around LA. What Sourdough and Dan listen to on Apple Music and what they’re most excited about. Insights into Sourdough’s musical journey and how he discovered hip hop. Some of Dan’s earliest hip hop influences and how it opened up his musical world. The tension between influence and inspiration and outright stealing. Early hip hop’s influence on culture has been unprecedented. Why Dan feels like the message and purpose of hip hop is continually being diluted. It's so important to learn from those who came before you and understand history. Dan’s vision for 2020 and how he always remains as positive as he is. What Dan and Sourdough feel about Trump and the message that he’s propagating. The engine of capitalism is corrupting society at large as well as art. Even if you’re not feeling inspired, create anyway and something will still come of it. Why Dan likes to collaborate with others when creating music.

You may be asking yourself, “What do school lunches have to do with fixing work, Laurie?” Well, in today’s episode, you’ll learn how one company is working to bring better food and nutrition to schools and how these efforts led the founder to fix work for himself.  In this episode I am joined by Dan Giusti, Founder and CEO of Brigaid. Since 2016, Brigaid has collaborated with K through 12 school districts to support and elevate the quality of their child nutrition programs. Dan is the essence of someone who has fixed work by trying to align himself with his values and to go out into the market and make magic happen. In this episode you’ll hear: Why Dan decided to leave Noma and use his chef skills in conjunction with his current passion as Founder of Brigaid. Dan says, “You can make a sandwich really well and take your time to make it nice and presented properly and cut it well.” [...] “I'm proud that when we make sandwiches, they look really great.” Dan’s plans for expanding his mission and how Brigaid is ready to apply what they’ve learned beyond school districts.   Resources from this episode: Brigaid Brigaid on Instagram Dan on Instagram Dan Giusti on Linkedin Noma - Copenhagen 070: Taking Risks and Saying Yes with Jeff Gordinier Laurie on Instagram Laurie on LinkedIn Read more from Laurie Work with Laurie   *** EPISODE CREDITS: If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment.
