In this episode, I want to share the journey of writing a book. It's a dream for many, with 81% of people expressing a desire to write a book, yet fewer than 1% actually follow through and publish one. I want to challenge you to consider whether you want to be part of the 99% who never take that leap or join the less than 1% who do. Throughout the episode, I explore the common fears and beliefs that hold aspiring authors back. Many struggle with feelings of inadequacy, fearing that their stories aren't significant enough or that they might hurt others. I emphasize that these fears often stem from a subconscious desire for safety and protection from exposure. It's crucial to recognize that the intent behind these fears is to keep you safe, but they can also prevent you from sharing your truth and helping others. I reflect on my own journey of writing my solo book, "When She Stopped Asking Why," which I began in 2016 and published in 2017. I share the challenges I faced, including the lack of support and the vulnerability of sharing my story while still living it. This experience led me to create the "Write Your Damn Book" mastermind, aimed at providing the support I wished I had during my writing process. Throughout the episode, I explore the common barriers that prevent aspiring authors from writing their books. Many people feel their stories aren't significant enough, are overwhelmed by the enormity of the task, or struggle with self-doubt and perfectionism. I emphasize that these feelings are universal among writers, regardless of background or experience. To help you overcome these obstacles, I discuss the importance of shifting your mindset and beliefs. Visualization techniques can be powerful tools in this process. I encourage you to imagine your readers holding your book, feeling seen and inspired by your story. By focusing on your "why" and recognizing that you are perfectly designed to help others who were once in your shoes, you can begin to dismantle the barriers holding you back. Are you the woman that is expected to hold it together, where all of your energy is consumed in the everyday? The type of woman who has wild dreams, but your obligations are overpowering, and those beautiful dreams stay on the backburner of your heart's greatest longings? If so, this episode is for you! In one of my MOST cherished conversations on the podcast, New York Times bestselling author Lauren Grodstein joins me for an intimate and heartwarming discussion about living as a woman in what is still a Virginia Woolf world, indoctrinated as "women of labor" and the demands of life as the oldest daughter of her family. In this conversation, we also speak to how womanhood poses challenges as a Jewish woman specifically, in light of the tragic events on and following October 7th, and how her latest book release We Must Not Think of Ourselves was unintentionally a timely message sharing the stories of the Warsaw Ghetto in 1940 and keeping their stories alive. We are once again living in a time when no choice feels like a good choice, but Lauren does an impressive job depicting this in her novel, and in real life on this podcast. She truly has a way with words that awakens your senses to truly see + feel as if you are there, and encompassing all emotions. In this very real but also honest conversation with Joshua Pellicer on the I Was Born to Do This podcast, I opened up about the seismic shifts happening in our world, especially around AI, and the urgent need for authors to ink their wisdom now, more than ever. With the landscape of content creation rapidly morphing, Joshua mentioned the pivotal moment we're in. AI's ascendancy means our window to establish our voice, our expertise, through the written word, is narrowing. In the next couple of years, how we're perceived as thought leaders hinges on our ability to share our unique insights and stories. AI, while a tool of incredible potential, ushers in a future where the value of authorship could diminish, making it paramount for us to act swiftly. This isn't just about racing against the tide of technology but seizing the opportunity to embed our perspectives in a world that's increasingly looking to AI for guidance. Joshua's message is a call to action: Write that book, share your truth, and do it now, because soon, the rules of the game might just change. In this solo episode of the Thriving Authors Podcast, I'm excited to share what has helped me write my back cover and my longer book descriptions. I even give an example of the description from my new book coming out this December called “Your Book Matters: 52 love notes from my creative heart to yours.” On the surface, writing your book description seems pretty simple…but it is super common to struggle with this task because you need to condense so much into a short space! To write a compelling book description, you need to 1) give the reader a sense of what your book is about; 2) introduce the reader to your own authentic voice and style; 3) sell your book; 4) grab the reader's attention and leave them wanting more! I dive into: The distinction between your book description and your back cover description. Some exercises that are really helpful with taking away the pressure and stress of writing the description of your book. Why I recommend writing your book description before you reach the end of your manuscript. How to grab the reader's attention in your book description. A little trick I use to hone in on how to write to the ideal reader of your book. Curious to see the full description of my soon-to-be-released book – and the differences between the longer description for the sales page and the shorter description for the back cover? I'm sharing this little behind-the-scenes peek with my book launch team so I invite you to join the launch team here: bit.ly/yourbookmatterslaunchteam

I had a university friend once who needed to borrow my computer. He sat down at it early in the morning, and by the time I got back home that evening, he had no more words in his document than he had when he started hours before. He had spent the entire day writing, editing, deleting, and rewriting, only to have zero progress by the end of the day.On this week's episode of “Authors Who Lead,” I share how you can avoid this kind of disappointment and frustration and actually sit down and write your book in thirty days.
