This week, Paul and Alec have a lot of card game news to catch up. Yu-Gi-Oh has announced and priced the long awaited Magnificent Monsters set. It's got the first Grandmaster Rare cards, but it'll cost you a whopping $35 for a chance at them. There's also Battles of Legend Glorious Gallery, a set that feels a bit overshadowed this year. The Pokemon Company has now printed 10 billion cards in the past year, but it's still not enough to stop the scalpers. Magic the Gathering plans to make Universes Beyond half of its total product lineup. And the beloved Chaotic TCG makes a return!
Jonathan Todd Ross, a voice actor and writer (the voice of Marik Ishtar & Yami Marik in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series), joins Lexie to discuss getting into acting and studying at NYU, stumbling into voice work via an urgent Ultraman audition that led to Yu-Gi-Oh!, and ultimately audiobooks, and why the original Yu-Gi-Oh! dub endures—universal themes, mythic battles, and inner duality. So tuck in your togas and hop aboard Trireme Transit for this week's exciting odyssey! Don't forget to follow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram or visit our website www.theozymandiasproject.com! It starts with selling Yu-Gi-Oh cards on eBay, testing dropshipping, learning Shopify, and slowly moving into Amazon PPC and brand management through hands-on work.
Warmest of Welcomes everybody! Max and Zac are back with another new guest as community member Gazdavis11 joins the show. The now usual run of the show begins with Platinum Shoutouts highlighting completions within the community. Zac then takes us through a somewhat unusual iteration of The Record as he highlights some of the highest rated game releases of the last two years that haven't been completed. Cactuar Vs. Tonberry follows with a review of last month and a new set of challenges from the boys to each other. Gaz has cooked up a special challenge that is sure to keep the boys on their toes going forward. Gaz kicks off What We Have Been Playing with some love for the PS Vita before breaking down an unexplored genre for him with Sand Land. Zac has been playing a number of smaller titles around the big release of Saros that has taken most of his time. Max has been busy, cleaning up four platinums including Clair Obscur and Kena: Bridge of Spirits as well as boosting in one of the most unique Crash Bandicoot games out there. The boys finish off with the promising new segment/topic named Pitch Me, where they each take the time to pitch a new game idea. Zac kicks off with a new tactics Final Fantasy game featuring a multitude of modes and spanning the series' impressive history. Max sends Yu-Gi-Oh to the shadow realm as he reimagines the classic IP as a Soulslike game. Gaz rounds the segment off by bringing a franchise he enjoys, SpyHunter, into the modern day with twists and turns that get the ideas flowing. We hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you again in June where Zac will once again have the reins. Until then, Be excellent to each other. Zac
A Texas dude allegedly scored the Yu-Gi-Oh motherlode when he pulled multiple uncut sheets of first-edition Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards out of a dumpster -- yeah the same SDK-001 legend that single-handedly defined the game back in '99, now worth a cool million if the whole haul sells clean. He's already flipped over $60k on Facebook Marketplace and eBay with more factory-fresh sheets of Toon Dragons and bulk rares still trickling out, but the TCG community's split because the story reeks of "security breach contractor dump" and nobody's buying the pure dumpster fairy tale -- either way someone's about to get rich off literal garbage while the rest of us wonder how many more holy grails are rotting in Texas trash bins right now. In this podcast, Colin Kelly highlights trading card games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering as undervalued media assets with immense marketing potential. He compares the current independent media surrounding these games to the underground football fanzines of the 1990s, which allowed brands like Oasis to reach dedicated audiences at a fraction of typical costs. Kelly argues that because these players represent a diverse and affluent demographic, businesses should move away from expensive, overvalued traditional advertising. Instead, he suggests that companies can build brand awareness by sponsoring niche content or hosting gaming events in their own physical spaces. Ultimately, the source encourages entrepreneurs to tap into these high-loyalty communities to gain a competitive edge in a fragmented media landscape.

Season 8 heads into early-2000s chaos as Dangerous Dave revisits the cult comedy Old School, a film that perfectly captured the outrageous, quote-heavy comedy era of the early 2000s. With its mix of wild fraternity antics and strangely heartfelt moments about growing older, the movie became one of the defining comedies of its generation. We rewind to 2003 in What Happened Way Back When, exploring the cultural backdrop surrounding the film — from indie music breakthroughs and overlooked movies to television shows that helped shape the early-internet entertainment era. Retro Headlines from both the UK and the US reveal how technology, reality TV, gaming, and DVD culture were rapidly changing how people consumed entertainment. In the Dangerous Deep Dive, Dave explores the full story behind Old School — from its development and director Todd Phillips' vision to the unforgettable performances of Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell as the legendary Frank “The Tank.” The episode includes a detailed plot breakdown, the creation of the film's most iconic moments, and why audiences embraced its rebellious, party-fueled humour. Dave also looks at how the movie helped kick-start the “Frat Pack” comedy era and why fans still quote it two decades later.Elsewhere in the episode:
In this episode, Jeremy Lee continues the conversation with David Chase after the now infamous missed bid on a Jackie Robinson card and explores a side of the story that had not been fully addressed yet: what about the seller? If a valid high bid was blocked by eBay's internal safeguard system, did the seller lose out on thousands of dollars? Jeremy and David dig into the implications for major cards sold on eBay, the risks for consignors, and why this kind of issue could make sellers think twice about where they move high end material. The episode also includes more hobby discussion around vintage market strength, eye appeal, and the current state of shows and cards across the hobby. There is also a quick run through of the latest Collector Investor Auctions lineup, with Jeremy highlighting the eclectic mix of vintage, modern, sports, and non sports material in the sale. Later, Joey from Hoops Hobby Hangout joins the show to share his collecting background and the origin story behind his basketball focused content channel. The conversation covers his path from Yu Gi Oh and fantasy sports into Kings collecting, modern basketball cards, and eventually content creation inspired by the kinds of hobby conversations he wanted to see more of. It is a thoughtful look at how communities form, why people start creating content, and what it means to build something for the love of the hobby rather than for numbers. If you enjoy hobby conversation that mixes market issues, collector psychology, and community building, please follow the podcast, leave a rating or review, and share this episode with a fellow collector. You can also check out Jeremy's new book Pops and Comps and take the Hobby Spectrum assessment to discover your collector identity and connect with other hobbyists in the directory. Read transcriptSome duels are fought with cards. Some are fought with dice. And then some… are fought with the Game Boy Advance's eternal struggle against decent menu navigation. This week on Play Comics, we're shuffling up and drawing into Yu-Gi-Oh! Destiny Board Traveler and World Championship Tournament 2004, two games that take everything we love about Yu-Gi-Oh!, monsters, strategy, friendship laser beams, and cram it into a tiny cartridge that smells faintly of childhood and battery corrosion. Joining Chris for this summoning circle of digital nostalgia is David from Anime Field Guide, who brings the kind of anime expertise that makes you question whether your life points can drop below zero if you cringe too hard at English dub dialogue. Together, they'll explore why these particular duels feel like being trapped in a friendship-branded fever dream, complete with turn-based confusion and more “draw phase” puns than anyone asked for. So grab your duel disk, blow into that GBA cartridge like it owes you rent, and prepare to enter a world where forbidden memories and confusing mechanics go hand-in-hand. It's the heart of the cards… but maybe also a faint cry for a player's guide. Learn such things as: Whether the heart of the cards can survive low battery warnings. The surprising crossover between duel monsters and chaos theory. Why Destiny Board Traveler isn't just Monopoly with a Yu-Gi-Oh skin. And so much more! You can find David on BlueSky @anifieldguide.bsky.social, Threads @anifieldguide, and of course hear him over at Anime Field Guide.
