This is a special episode; not only is it the 90th episode of For Your Listening Pleasure, but this episode is for my Dad. My Dad, Ross Waxman, passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2024, and today, January 23rd, would have been his 67th birthday. My dad was my biggest cheerleader and unwavering supporter. Whenever I came up with business ideas or creative projects, he backed me 100% without hesitation. One passion project he encouraged me to pursue was creating a podcast dedicated to empathy, diversity, and real people's stories. Initially, the podcast was planned under a different name with two co-hosts, and we conducted practice interviews with family and friends before launching. One of those practice episodes was with my dad, where he shared stories about his life. This unedited conversation is a treasure, capturing his voice and essence, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have it. This recording only shows a glimpse of the amazing person my Dad was. He was truly the coolest person I knew. He always taught me to do the right thing, treat people with respect, help others when I can, and try to live my life with zero regrets. I miss him every day, and I know my life will never be the same without him. I am honored to share a bit of my Dad with you. Please enjoy this meaningful episode. American filmmaker Patrick Creadon who is primarily known for his work in documentaries. His first film, Wordplay, profiled New York Times crossword editor Will Shortz and premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Then in 2016, Patrick directed ESPN" s 30 for 30 film, "Catholics vs. Convicts," about the October 15, 1988, Notre Dame-Miami football game. In this episode, we discuss Patrick's latest film, "The Loyola Project," about the historic 1963 Loyola Ramblers men's basketball national championship team and the racial barriers they faced and overcame on their incredible journey. I loved how Patricks weaves together actual footage and modern-day interviews to tell this captivating story, which continues to inspire the fight for equality. Eric Stefanski is an established artist from Chicago whose work has been featured worldwide. Practicing as a painter, his work reflects the humor and rejection that comes with having a studio practice. He explores themes of modern society, art history, pop culture, sports, labor, and even his own personal history. I came upon Eric's Instagram and instantly felt connected to his work. KC Chhipwadia has served our great country in two capacities. He spent 20 years as a senior human space flight engineer at NASA Johnson Space Center, supporting over 50 Space Shuttle missions, including the Space Shuttle Columbia accident investigation. If that wasn't impressive enough, KC has spent over 20+ years in the United States Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer, including deployments to Iraq looking for those missing-in-action and Afghanistan with Naval Special Warfare. His NASA and US Navy life-changing events, challenges, and experiences uniquely prepared KC to discover his life's true purpose ― to improve the odds and inspire others to seek and achieve their dreams by crushing inequities ― starting with student-athletes. KC is the founder and owner of Athlete Foundry, a company with a suite of products to lift and positively impact pre-college student-athletes & families across the country. I am honored to welcome Peloton instructor Sam Yo. As a first-generation kid growing up in London, Sam was always interested in his Thai-Chinese heritage and saw Monks as figures to draw cultural knowledge from. This interest ultimately led him to step away from his career on the West End Stage and travel to Thailand to become a Buddhist Monk. That experience helped Sam understand more about himself, the power of silence, and the importance of showing up with positivity. All of which he took into his next endeavor as a fitness instructor, and after eight years of teaching spin classes, he received a message from Peloton. Sam is known for the nurturing and supportive atmosphere he creates on the bike, along with the fantastic playlists and nuggets of wisdom throughout class. I am excited to welcome two-time Olympian Jason Brown who became one of the youngest male figure skating Olympic medalists after winning a Bronze Medal at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. Jason achieved international stardom at a young age, known for his craftsmanship on the ice. But he says no program has meant more to him than the one he took to the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games: a free skate routine to the soundtrack of “Schindler's List.” In this conversation, the Highland Park, Illinois native discussed how he faced a significant roadblock in 2018, failing to qualify for the Olympics, feeling burned out, and even contemplated retiring at age 23. After some time, Jason decided to commit himself to the sport and prioritized performing for his happiness, not to please outside forces. That dedication and mindset helped Jason reach his goal of attending the 2022 Olympics, where he earned a personal best in the free skate and short program.
