    Ivy Insights

The "From Fear to Freedom" podcast is a must-listen for anyone navigating the uncertainties of today's world, particularly younger individuals. This podcast offers a combination of scripture, teachings, and personal insights that provide guidance and inspiration. Hosted by Katie and Alexis, it feels like hanging out with your best friends as they motivate, uplift, and enlighten listeners.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the relatability of the hosts. As young Christian women themselves, they understand the struggles and challenges faced by their audience. Their advice and information are not only relatable but also grounded in biblical principles. They tackle a variety of topics that are relevant to everyday life, always connecting them back to how the Word guides us in living our lives. The episodes are informative, inspiring, and offer practical tips for growth in faith.

Another great aspect is the authenticity of Katie and Alexis. They bring their genuine selves to every episode and aren't afraid to discuss hard topics or share personal stories from their own walks with God. This vulnerability creates a sense of trust between the hosts and listeners, making it easier to connect with what they have to say.

However, one potential downside to this podcast is that it may focus heavily on Christian perspectives and teachings. While this can be beneficial for their target audience, it may not appeal to those who do not identify as Christians or have different religious beliefs. In order to reach a wider audience, it would be helpful if they incorporated perspectives from various spiritual backgrounds or belief systems.

In conclusion, "From Fear to Freedom" is an incredible podcast for young listeners seeking guidance during uncertain times. Katie and Alexis provide valuable scripture-based insights combined with personal stories that make this podcast relatable and uplifting. Despite potentially being more focused on Christian perspectives, this podcast offers wisdom and encouragement that can resonate with people from all walks of life. Overall, it's a great resource for anyone looking to grow in faith and find comfort in these challenging times.

What to do when God doesn't give you what you want…  *We learn to trust God in the trials (think of Hannah who couldn't have children)  Hannah chooses to trust God she's crying out to God and asks God to “look upon her sorrow”  She decided that she would trust God no matter what.  1 Samuel 1 “ the lord remembers her plea and she gave birth to a son”  Samuel means “heard by God” Remembering her trial & God heard her prayer.  How do you wait well?  We may not always understand, but we can see his faithfulness throughout our lives.  *Reminder: we will always experience disappointment…this earth and everything in it was never meant to satisfy.  Luke 22:42 “…not my will, but yours be done.” There is purpose in your pain…  He knows what we are feeling, and we can trust Him to carry the burdens of our souls.  A lot of the time we are disappointed because we are putting our hope in the wrong places. People  Jobs  Relationships Children  Money  Status Verses:  “My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” Psalms 73:26 NLT “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”  Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”Revelation 21:4 NLT “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. Welcome back! Let's get into it... We often say we desire healing or freedom - but we focus on excuses rather than running to our ultimate healer & giver of life, Jesus. We focus inwardly & often form an identity surrounding our struggle. We are told in John that Jesus is the vine - we are the branches. Without him, we are nothing.Do we truly desire a life that is free from sin? Or are we so comfortable in our sin that it becomes a part of us? Do we want to be healed? Scripture References:  “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.” Galatians 5:24 NLT “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.” Proverbs 4:20-22 NKJV “…If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. SHOW NOTES: There is a temptation to desire to be “liked”, popular, and desired - but when that trumps our faith & trust in God & our identity in Him, it is idolatry & pride “If you are making everyone happy, you are also making some of the wrong people happy! You're trying to please people who are judgmental, controlling, or arrogant, people who require others to do what they want them to do before they extend approval. So, to keep hurtful people happy, you must do some things that are not good in the long run. You have to make some bad choices to keep these people smiling" - Dr. Henry Cloud Verses: Galatians 1:10 Does this sound as if I am trying to win human approval? No indeed! What I want is God's approval! Am I trying to be popular with people? If I were still trying to do so, I would not be a servant of Christ. Proverbs 29:25 Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety. Psalm 118:8 It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. Colossians 3:23  Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but continuously be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God's will is—what is proper, pleasing, and perfect. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/support

Welcome back to another episode of The Freedom Podcast! I feel like God is calling me in another direction but I'm not sure, how I know this feeling is from the Lord.  “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him” James 1:5  Walking away from your old self is difficult but the Lord will prompt your heart when it's time to switch gears.  Change of perspective. How I view work, relationships, and friends will change based on aligning with Christ.  Remember God gives us free will. When we are aligned with Christ he will guide our future.  The Lord speaks to us through his word and convicts our hearts & minds. We become sanctified in the word (John 17:17)  When we're in the word we will know God's will because our decisions will align with the Bible. God will never ask us to sin.  God gave us the Holy Spirit to help us discern.   God will give us peace in the situation. There is a hyper-focus on achievement, money, status - worldly things - OVERWHELMING in our culture It is easy to be swept up in the current culture & pressures to conform to the “rat race”, materialism, etc. We are often left asking the question - what truly matters? What is my purpose? Despite the rat race, God has placed eternity on our hearts - we long for something else Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” From gotquestions.org: In Ecclesiastes, Solomon lists the various vain pursuits that are equivalent to chasing after the wind: • All things are done “under the sun,” that is, in a human life lived apart from any consideration of God (1:14) • Pursuing wisdom and the understanding of madness and folly (1:16–17) • Rewarding oneself with pleasure (2:10–11) • Seeking immortality (2:16–17) • Thinking one can control the outcome of his life (2:26) • Envious competition with one's neighbor (4:4) • Trying to make a lasting name for oneself (4:16) “James 4:14 says, “Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” A vapor is a fine mist-like fog. It quickly burns away when the sun comes up. It has no substance and leaves nothing behind. Comparing our lives to a vapor illustrates how fleeting our days on this earth are. Life can feel endless at times, but the Bible reminds us that, compared to eternity, an individual life on earth is like a vapor chased away by the morning sun. It is important to recognize the brevity of life so that we don't squander the time we've been given. Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Our primary reason for living must have eternal focus & it is wise to recognize the brevity of life instead of living a life of pleasure & indulgence Love God, love others - how well do we do this? Loving God is displayed in our priorities - where we spend our time and money, and where our thoughts are focused This world is not our home CS Lewis: “The fact that our heart yearns for something Earth can't supply is proof that Heaven must be our home.” As Christians, we should have a vertical vision that empowers our horizontal living.  “So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 NLT Eternity is permanent, this is why it's so important to witness to others and pray for more souls to come to Christ.  “Our life is the seedtime of eternity — what is sown now — will be reaped in an eternal, changeless state.” — James Smith (from What is Life).  “Meditation on the shortness of time would cool the heat of our affections for the WORLD.” - Thomas Watson  Biblical Imagery of how short our lives are:  A Shadow: (psalms 102:11 “My days are like a lengthened shadow, And I wither away like grass”.)  A Breath: Job 7:16 “I waste away; I will not live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath”  A Cloud: Job 7:9 A Flower/ Grass: Psalms 102:11 “My life passes as swiftly as the evening shadows. Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. —Psalm 82:3–4 (NIV) Sexual immorality = porneia in Greek, meaning “illicit sexual activity” Changing the word sexual sin for porneia leaves us with a strong message in the New Testament: “The body is not meant for porneia but for the Lord” (1 Corinthians 6:13). “Flee from porneia. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18). “But among you there must not be even a hint of porneia, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people” (Ephesians 5:3) Jesus was always going after the heart… “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28) What is the common theme of sexual immorality, sexual sin, pornography, and sex work/trafficking? It starts with lust & involves greed, exploitation, manipulation, and distortion of sex for one's selfish gain. Children are the most vulnerable and easily manipulated people group and we see them being targeted. From ourrescue.org: 40.3 million people are trafficked globally - 25% are children Human trafficking is the second largest illicit activity in the world - only behind the drug trade 72% of individuals trafficked were for sexual exploitation From fightthenewdrug.org: Research involving current and former porn performers suggests that exploitation and trafficking are common experiences in the porn industry, with pornography ranking as the third-most common form of trafficking reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Fraud, coercion, and force are all used to produce pornographic content. Porn is used to groom sexual abuse victims. Increased pornography consumption is linked to men's enjoyment of degrading, uncommon, or aggressive sexual behaviors. Approximately 91.5% of men and 60.2% of women report consuming porn in the past month, according to a 2020 study. Because of desensitization, many porn consumers find themselves consuming more porn, consuming more often, or consuming more extreme forms of pornography. Pornography and sexual sin is a warped view of what sex is intended for and has devastating consequences on the mind, relationships, mental health, and protection of women and children. Biblical Femininity vs. Modern Feminism

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 14, 2023 34:43

Show Notes: The cultural push is that there is no difference between men & women. We see distinct differences throughout the bible but there has been a pendulum swing in some circles. Extremes of feminism & trad wives trends - where is the balance? How have we seen this in culture, in our own lives, and on social media? Our purpose as women of God is not to fit a specific mold - there is nuance to everything. Our purpose is unique. It depends on your relationship status, living situation, family of origin, etc. God made all of mankind equal in value but different in personality, purpose, and giftings. (Galatians 3:28 states that “there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”)… God made women different than men in a beautiful way - but what does that look like practically? Proverbs 31 Woman - what is she? This is what she did over her entire lifetime - not at one period of time Far more precious than jewels - she is invaluable She is trustworthy  Hardworking Provides for her household & is selfless Entrepreneur Strong Generous to the poor Her husband is where he is because of her contributions - teamwork The great commission is for men & women - we are to make disciples & love others everywhere we go Our purpose is to love God & love others - not to fit a cultural mold. Women have a purpose & design but our worth is not found in specific action items & a checklist. ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31) “Do the next right thing with excellence and to the glory of God” - ABS Where are you falling into “trends”? What unique purpose has God placed on your life? 1 Peter 3:3-4: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornments, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.”  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/support

WELCOME TO THE FREEDOM PODCAST, we're so happy you're here! Make sure to follow us on social media: The Freedom Podcast Instagram Notes: Simple Ways to Enjoy God We tend to think of God as isolated to church, bible studies, or worship time during church. God is the creator of everything - James tells us that every good gift is from above… Do we believe the lie that life is purposeless (nihilism) or think that everything material is evil (Gnosticism)? We are commanded to LOVE God & Love others. Loving God includes worshiping him through our day-to-day lives - and not solely on Sunday. Our actions WILL be counter-cultural. Ways to enjoy God & His creation in simple ways: The world around us: Nature, walks, creation & beauty. Love & humanity: relationships - enjoying moments with family, friends, and your church community - there is great importance in prioritizing community. Creativity: Hard work - Art, creativity, being good stewards of what God has given us, the “flow” that comes when we are working in our talents and gifts given by God. Importance of creating a habit of doing what connects you to God: What situations or things bring you closer to God? How can you incorporate more of this into your day-to-day? Are you prioritizing ways to fight culture & reroot your mind on the goodness of God? Simple ideas: Carving out time in the day to walk in nature. Time spent in His word (podcasts, devotionals, quiet time) Dedicate time each week to meet in the community or spend time with loved ones. What are your gifts or talent and how can you use them to glorify God? What is one thing you might need to give up that is flesh-glorifying instead of God-glorifying? (music, tv, spending, idolization) Scripture reference: James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Proverbs 21:21 Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor. Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/support

Trusting God in The Ups & Downs

Welcome back! We have a great episode for you all today... If you're struggling with trusting the Lord's plan this episode is for you! Also, make sure to check out Katie and Jake's youtube series @ChattingWithTheChurches SHOW NOTES/REFERENCES: Trusting God in the ups & downs In what areas do we still struggle to trust God? Anxiety & worry —> indicates a lack of trust in God or fear of loss/change. What is the root cause of our fear or worry? Gotquestions.org: The main reason we should trust God is that He is worthy of our trust. Unlike men, He never lies and never fails to fulfill His promises. “God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19; Psalm 89:34). We can learn to trust God as we see him working in our lives & the lives of others around us. When has God been faithful in our lives previously? Why do we doubt him moving forward? Gotquestions.org: Should we trust in ourselves or in others who are sinful, unpredictable, unreliable, have limited wisdom, and frequently make bad choices and decisions swayed by emotion? Or do we trust in the all-wise, all-knowing, all-powerful, gracious, merciful, loving God who has good intentions for us? The choice should be obvious, but we fail to trust God because we don't know Him. As already stated, we cannot hope to trust in someone who is essentially a stranger to us, but that is easily remedied. God has not made Himself difficult to find or know. All we need to know about God, He has graciously made available to us in the Bible, His holy Word to His people. To know God is to trust Him. Reflect on his sovereignty Verses: “All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: ‘What have you done?'” Daniel 4:35 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 “For this is the will of God, by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but as servants of God. 1 Peter 2:15–16 “All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” Romans 8:28 Pod Notes: Lex  “Abraham never wavered in believing God's promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this, he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” Romans 4:20-21 NLT  In what areas of my life do I trust God the least?  Do I truly believe the Lord is all I need? Do I believe He will provide everything I need?  There are a ton of references in the Bible about not worrying or being fearful. Why?  Because God knows our tendency as humans is to doubt.  We have to remember that God knows the future, He holds it in his hands.  “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” – James 1:6 God knows the desires of our hearts. But we must be reminded that He knows what's best for us.  Faith & trust go hand in hand. “Our trust is not foolish, for our God is both faithful and good.” -Grand Canyon Univ Blog  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” – Proverbs 3:5-6 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/support

Welcome back to The Freedom Podcast! Today we are touching on an array of topics. Grab your coffee, sit back, and enjoy! POD NOTES: —How can Christians prepare for Christ's return?  We need to understand the second coming of Christ.  1st coming: Jesus as a baby. Servant, humble, meek, second chances. Dying for our sins gives us the choice of salvation, and eternal life.  2nd coming: Judgment day, War, paying for our sins, War with the devil.  Revelations 19:11-16 CHRIST ON THE WHITE HORSE— Describes Christ's coming as a conqueror.  “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness, He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”Revelation 19:11-16 NKJV — His return could occur at any moment.  — Be steadfast and faithful to the call He has for your life.  — Share the gospel.  — Live out the truth that is only found in the Bible.  — Expect persecution. (2 Timothy 3:12 “…Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ will be persecuted”.) — Study & learn the BIBLE  Matthew 24:5-8 “Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5 “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”  — How should Christians view politics? What should our attitude be?  “Politics is merely a method God uses to accomplish His will. Even though evil men abuse their political power, meaning it for evil, God means it for good…” God's law is above man's law.  God is in control of all things. (Daniel 4:34 “…for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation…”) The government and politicians cannot save us.  Ultimately our politics must align with the word of God. We are to live out God's truth and live out His laws.  Speak the truth in love. (Gay marriage, transgenderism, sexualization of children, abortion.)  — What is the calling god has for my life?  We are to live out God's truth Honor Christ in our work  Share the gospel with those around us  Serve one another  Be a part of a church  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefreedompodcast/support

Show Notes: On today's show, we are talking about work ethic. The benefit of work is a theme seen throughout the Bible. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24 — God cares about our work ethic. He commands us to work hard in whatever we do. We do not work for the man but for God. — The Lord created us to work, you can see this as early as Adam and Eve. Genesis 2:15 “ “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” — Throughout the Bible God gives instructions on how to work. “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” Proverbs 14:23 — Work is important, it is not our identity but working for the Lord will bring joy in the most mundane activities. — Rest is also important, this was seen when God created the heavens and earth. He rested on the seventh day. “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it, you shall not do any work” Exodus 20:9-10a Psalm 19 says that God reveals Himself to the world through His work. “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/support

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Washington-post, “a person's name is the greatest connection to their own identity and individuality”. A. We must see ourselves how the Lord sees us. — Galatians 2:20 “I've been crucified in Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me…” B. We are saved by grace, meaning we are holy, saints, and blemish free. Because of that, we should live like it. — 1 John 1:9 “He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. C. Are we sinners, saints, or both? — We are born into the world sinners. — When we are saved we no longer identify as a sinner, but as holy, blemish-free individuals in God's eyes. — We must remember who we are in Christ. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/support

Show Notes: God can handle our doubt & disbelief. He knows we are human and prone to doubt. He doesn't grow tired or needs a break from us or our problems. Mark 9:14-29 Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed By an Impure Spirit “ ‘If you can'?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes. Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:23-24 NIV The definition of doubt is “to lack confidence, to consider unlikely.” How can we battle doubt in our relationship with God? Learn who God is and build a relationship with Him. Fill your mind with his promises. “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ” (Romans 10:17). The more we learn about the Lord the more our faith increases. Prayer stops doubt. God hears our prayers. When our prayers align with God's plan it will come to fruition. Luke 11:9-13 We can stand firm on the promises of the Lord. “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” James 1:6-7 NIV Every human has limitations intellectually - therefore, our concept of the totality of the world, eternity, and God's plan is hard for us to understand. It is impossible to grasp fully without the word of God. Doubt comes from our sin nature: we trust in our own understanding—> doubt, which is a destroyer of life. Contrarily, faith is trusting God even when his plan goes against our reasoning & understanding. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/support

Welcome back! Today Katie and Alexis are talking about modesty and what the Bible says about this topic. We are reminded that modesty is not just in our dress but in our actions and heart as well. We dive into our own personal stories how God has transformed our hearts and minds in this realm. Definition: the quality of not being too proud or confident about yourself or your abilities. Or: propriety in dress, speech, or conduct. What does the Bible refer to when it talks about modesty? When we look at ourselves, (examining the interior & exterior) do we look like we are disciples of Christ or the world? What is my heart posture? — A godly person strives to do everything with a “God-ward” perspective. “The key to understanding what constitutes modesty in dress is to examine the attitudes and intents of the heart. Those whose hearts are inclined toward God will make every effort to dress modestly, decently, and appropriately. Those whose hearts are inclined toward self will dress in a manner designed to draw attention to themselves with little or no regard for the consequences to themselves or others.” (gotquestions.org) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/support

Show Notes Psalms 23: God Meets Our Emotional Needs “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms 23:1-4 NKJV We try to distract ourselves from the disappointment that life can bring. How does this manifest in todays society? Anxiety, depression, anger, jealousy, no margin in our lives, “busyness”, etc. How does the Lord restore our soul? “He makes us lie down…” Have you ever truly been quiet and still with God? When I go through the valley who/what am I putting my trust in? In what ways do I try to distract myself from my fears & failures instead of running to the Lord & resting in his presence? Do I only lean on God when times are hard? -The temptation in the valley is to quit. But David says even when he's in the valley he will NOT fear. God gives us a gift even when we're in the valley. He gives us his presence. -When we run out of human options we will discover His supernatural presence. -God doesn't give us what we want - he gives us what we NEED. What fruit may come from this valley or difficulty that you are going through? -In the shadows we get to see who God really is. We must not only trust God in the mountain tops but in the valleys. “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.” John 10:27-29 NKJV --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/support

Pillars of The Gospel: Why am I a Christian?

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 15, 2022 39:45

Welcome Back! Love the show? Make sure to leave us a 5 star review and share this episode with a friend! Show Notes: Why are we Christians? Important topic to discuss due to false doctrine being SO prevalent - often times we get lost in religion and forget the true gospel Prosperity gospel, health & wealth, works based salvation, being “good enough” to earn our salvation What does it really mean to be a Christian? Surrendering to God, recognizing our own filth / sin, and living by the spirit once we accept Jesus as our Lord & savior The gospel is so beautiful because it does not discriminate based on class, race, gender, background, or status Talk about our own testimonies & our walks with God - what was a turning point for us? What does born again mean? Means “born from above” or “becoming children of God” *see John 3:3-5 From the fall of man, each human was born sinful & with a heart loving sin & evil No animal sacrifice would ever be enough to atone for our sin From crosswalk.com: “God created an atonement for Adam and Eve's sin based on the shedding of blood of innocent animals. These innocent animals served as substitutes. A substitute paid a price by blood which is accepted by God to restore the broken relationship. That is what we see all throughout the Old Testament in the sacrificial system.” Animals were sacrificed in the Old Testament, and in Genesis 3, to ultimately point to the Lamb of God. Jesus was sent to earth as the perfect sacrifice for our sin - FINALLY sufficient His death on the cross is what we actually deserve - it is a free gift to us & nothing we can ever earn We all fall short & cannot meet Gods criteria. Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” As sinners we are spiritually dead. From this sacrifice, we can life FROM grace - which produces works & good fruit Share this freedom with others & bring others to Christ Our lives are not meant to be lived for ourselves Ephesians 2: 8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. James 2:26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. John 3:3-5 NLT “Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother's womb and be born again?”“Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” Ephesians 2:1 “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins…” Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thefreedompodcast/support

    Comparison, The Killer of Joy

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 18, 2022 36:03

Show Notes: * Is comparison and envy the same? * Do I find myself wishing I had more/a different life? (money, popularity, fame, etc.) * Do I ignore the blessings God has bestowed on me? Am I grateful? * Do I trust where God has me right now? * Does social media contribute to me comparing myself to others? - [ ] Comparison is the thief of joy and the stretcher of truth. - [ ] Comparison keeps the focus on ourselves and we either feel prideful by thinking of ourselves as better than another, or we believe God is holding something out from us. - [ ] “The truth is God has given me everything I need for the plans he has set before me.” - [ ] One of the fastest ways of discouraging yourself and getting trapped by the sin of envy is when you compare yourself to others. - [ ] God has a specific plan for you and you won't accomplish that plan by looking at others.  - [ ] Hard question - are you entitled? You cannot be grateful for what you feel entitled to. Do we praise God IN our circumstances as opposed to BECAUSE OF our circumstances? “Do your own work well, and then you will have something to be proud of. But don't compare yourself with others. We each must carry our own load.” Galatians‬ ‭6:4‬-5 CEVUK‬‬ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30 “The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor.
