Fresh Start – How Offense Makes Us Fools What is offense? Offense = An annoyance or resentment brought about by a perceived insult to or disregard for oneself or one's standards or principles. Hebrew: peša = Transgression or sin “You know you are a true servant when it doesn't upset you to be treated like one.” - Unknown How Offense Makes Us Fools 1. Offense makes me angry. Ecclesiastes 7:9 (ESV)“Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges (makes its home there) in the bosom of fools.” 2. Offense distracts me from the relationship. Proverbs 17:9 (ESV)“Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends” 3. Offense hardens my heart. Proverbs 18:19 (ESV)“A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city, and quarreling is like the bars of a castle.” 4. Offense distorts my view of reality. Proverbs 18:17 (ESV)“The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.” Proverbs 19:11 (ESV)“Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.” Four Strategies to Overlook an Offense 1. Give up your Rights. Choose to Forgive. Unless we exert control over our institutions, starting with the schools, murders like those we saw in Nashville (and Aberdeen, and Denver, and Colorado Springs) will happen far more often as the minds of young people are broken by causing psychotic breaks with reality. We have enough people who are unconnected to reality, like the Sniffer-in-Chief who, instead of mourning the dead people murdered by a woman in a psychotic break instead admired the bodies of children. So many government schools played along with the lockdowns--and, many schools got paid to push masking and mRNA injections--that CBS News did a long report about the unprecedented damage to kid's education, though CBS blamed a flu. The radicalization of so many schools has decimated people's respect for the principles of a healthy society, it will take a century to get them back. The WSJ on what people value today: In 1998, 70 percent of Americans said patriotism was very important and now, only 38 percent. Religion was 62 percent in 1998, now 39 percent! The poll with 1019 adults was conducted march 1-13. So, remove the state's hands from the necks of children and make school optional--yes, people can thrive without them. My Uncle dropped out of 5th grade. My Uncle died rich. My Uncle learned from life. My Grandpa dropped out of 8th grade. My Grandpa died very well-off, well loved, well remembered for what he gave back to his community. My Grandpa learned from life. I know, people will say that is an “anti-intellectual” rant, but some of the finest minds in history did not attend compulsory schools. If school is totally optional, schools will have to pursue parents and, unless it's in the separate countries of Washington, Oregon, California and the like, most parents will understand it damages kids to teach them reality doesn't exist and racism is a virtue if they channel their hatred at the right people.What does God say? Quotables from the episode: I took a long, hard and honest look at my business and my client's businesses and had to ask myself these questions: if our business partner is the Almighty, all-knowing, all-providing God why don't our businesses look any different than the businesses of those who don't know God? More than that, we don't we look any different than entrepreneurs who don't know God? We are just as hurried, worried, and stressed as they are. We try to do things for God, but the invitation is to have God with us. That's a totally different game when we make God our CEO. I'm so thankful to be learning that God really does care about all the details of my life and that He is available and waiting to help me with it. As Christ-centered entrepreneurs, God wants us to be bold, humble, joyful, peace-filled, so that what overflows out of us onto others will be consistent with His character. Partnering with God in prayer doesn't have to be complicated, fancy, or heroic. Instead it can be BRIEF: Business-Related: Abandoning our default mindset of if it's going to be, it's up to me, we invite God into our daily work, seeking his supernatural presence, purposes, and power. Relevant: Exchanging our typical global requests, “Bless this business, Lord,” for our granular reality, such as “Help me to be humble and self-forgetful in today's meeting with Bob,” we ask God to work in and through every specific attitude, activity, and engagement of each particular day. Inside out: Shifting our prayer focus from a results-only orientation, we pray in cooperation with the way God most likes to work—from the inside out: In us In our relationship with him In our relationships with others In our relationship with our business The results our work has in the world Expectant: Acknowledging that God is always at work, even when things are not what we'd hoped, each day we watch for his moment-by-moment movement, trust his promises, and celebrate his answers. Frequent: No longer compartmentalizing our relationship with him to discrete times of the day, we practice the presence of God throughout each day, ceaselessly interacting with him as we partner with him to change the world. We all have a head knowledge that God is for me, but we need to take God's grand principles into our small, granular reality. The failure rate in small business is so high because we need to shift our focus to what God is doing in us rather than because of us. Failure comes when our contribution outpaces our character. We live in a largely unchurched world, so as entrepreneurs, God gives us the opportunity to reach those who might not otherwise be reached because they don't set foot in a church. When we are not trusting God with every aspect of our business, and instead default to worry and hurry, we are essentially being a functional atheist, because we are believing God will not provide. Start super small with very specific requests that you know God also wants for you, then walk expectantly through your day watching for how He is at work. It's a treasure hunt and a grand adventure. John 3:18 is today's Bible verse in which Jesus talks about our freedom from condemnation by believing in his saving work on The Cross. John 3:18 is Jesus' statement that "Whoever believes is not condemned; but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because they haven't believed in God's one-and-only Son." This verse is a strong reminder of the importance faith. We are not condemned as believers because we believe in Jesus. Those who don't believe are already condemned because they haven't believed in the One who can save them. This verse should be a reminder to all who don't know Christ to share the gospel with them, so they can have forgiveness and eternal life. It also reminds us of the importance of keeping our faith strong so we don't get condemned. Our Heavenly Father has made it possible for us to share eternal life with Him. This is possible because He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world to save it. It is not to condemn it but to show us how to live eternally. This is a wonderful act of God's love. It is something we can all do by reflecting on His Word, and allowing it change our lives. This will help us become more like Christ, and allow us to share His love with others. It is amazing to realize that we can be a part of God's salvation plan!

I want to begin talking to you over the next few weeks about Giving to The Poor. On December 12 we are going to have a special offering to benefit the poor. It will be our first annual Special Benevolence Offering. The goal and idea of this offering is simply to benefit those that are less fortunate. We have Faith Projects. These are things that we are believing for and as a result sowing or saving towards. And rightfully so, we should always have Faith Projects. Now, our Faith Projects are directly and indirectly self benefiting. Do you know what I mean by that? For example, we are currently saving seed to sow into other churches while we believe for the harvest of our own debt free facilities. This Special Benevolence Offering is also indirectly self benefiting. What? We are going to sow into the poor specifically for their benefit. However, because we are giving to the poor it is also indirectly self benefiting. You just can't beat God giving, no matter how hard you try. The more you give, the more He gives to you. You can see the evidence of what I am saying in these foundational verses. Proverbs 19:17 - He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given. NLT - If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD— and he will repay you! ESV - Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed. NIV - Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done. CSB - Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and he will give a reward to the lender. Do you really think that the Lord is one for one in this verse? No way! When He does something it's not according to our standards, it's always "according to His riches in glory." Galatians 2:20 (ESV) I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. So many Christians it seems are content to just get by in their Christian life. They ask Jesus into their life, they go to church, they learn a few hymns and read the Bible occasionally, but they never really amount to anything in the Kingdom of God. They are content to be average. MR AVERAGE? The average Australian man is 36 yo, 178 cm tall and weighs 85kg. He has 2 kids and earns $65,000 a year. His life expectancy is 81.5, women get 4 years more, are 14cm shorter and weigh only 68kg. Statistics can tell you a lot of things, but it cannot tell you who will become great, who will impact the lives of others or who will lay down their life for someone they love. The average Christian over 35-40 years will attend 1600 church services, hear 1600 sermons, sing more than 20,000 worship songs and lead zero people to faith in Christ. But average is where many Christians aim, and they hit it! They are content to be ordinary, to live what they think is an adequate Christian life. They believe that if they go to church, read their Bible occasionally, and say their prayers once in a while, they will be all right with God. Occasionally, they may be inspired to go above and beyond their normal routine and volunteer to serve others as an usher, a member of a church committee, or even go on a short-term mission trip. So many Christians, especially after the disruption of COVID, are simply going through the motions of being “good Christians.” They do not enjoy the power, the fullness, peace, and joy that should come with the abundant life Jesus promised. John 10:10 (ESV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. Eventually, this ordinary, average Christian life they are living becomes a burden and does not comfort them when the storms of adversity assail. There’s a disconnect between what we say we believe and what we actually experience. Why are so many Christians content to be ordinary? 1. WE GET FOCUSSED ON THE WRONG THING So many Christians are simply focussed on the wrong thing. They are chasing the right career, the right business, the right partner, the right kids, the right church. They concentrate on getting, getting money, houses, hobbies or any number of things except Christ. Let me ask you, what are you focussed on? Here’s a hint… What do you think about most? Do you spend more time or invest more energy into business, money, home making, even leisure that you invest into reading the Bible, coming to church and prayer. Your time and heads pace is a good indicator of your focus. Matthew 6:32-33 (ESV) For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 2. WE GET DISTRACTED Another reason our Christian lives are ordinary is that we get distracted. We start well, the seed of an extraordinary life is sown, but as Jesus explains in the parable of the sower, we get distracted by worldly things which choke life and fruitfulness. Matthew 13:22 (ESV) As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. When I came to Christ I wanted to do something great, something world changing for Him. I was so young, so full of enthusiasm and drive, but then came starting a career, business, homes, family. None of these are bad, but I noticed they pressured me to take my eyes of Christ. God has shown me that if I seek Him I can serve Him better, and live a more extraordinary life to boot. Colossians 3:2 (ESV) Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3. WE GET FOOLED 1 Peter 5:8 (ESV) Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. The devil knows he has lost your soul to heaven, so the next best thing is to stunt your effectiveness as a servant of God. He uses deceit, lies, distractions, pain, and especially fear to blunt your service for Jesus. He is actively trying to bring you down. We have to be vigilant. Sober minded means calm and collected in spirit. Watchful means staying awake, being aware. Look at your life right now. Are you being fooled by the enemy, hoodwinked by Satan? Are you being sold the lie that your business or house or car or family or anything else is more important that your life in Christ? Only one life, twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last… CT Studd. 4. WE GET WEARY So often we serve the Lord, we focus on Him, we desire to live an extraordinary life for Him, but we just get weary. This is huge for me, and for many of us. Paul said, Galatians 6:9 (ESV) And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. It’s not about how you start the Christian race, it’s about how you finish. If you grow weary and fail, you slip back into ordinariness. Folks, we need to be continually inspired towards love and good works. We need to hold fast to the Word of the Lord and wait on Him. He promises.. Isaiah 40:31 (ESV) but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. So how do we guard against becoming weary and discouraged? The answer is one simple word… Fellowship. Fellowship with yourself, take a break, have a few days away and recharge the batteries. Fellowship with God, quiet times, reading the Bible, worshipping Him Fellowship with friends, have a few laughs, go out to dinner, watch a fun movies, play some crazy game like bananagrams. Fellowship with believers. Church needs to be something that builds us up and replenishes us when we get weary. You can be a Christian and not go to church, just like you can be married and not live together, but it’s not the norm. Most Christians who are not linked with a church family achieve little if anything for God. Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV) And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Ignite is a great place to open opportunities for fellowshipping with believers, serving the Lord and replenishing your reserves so you can soar with the Eagles, even if you have to deal with turkeys in your life. JESUS NEVER CALLED US TO BE AVERAGE Life and life to the full is not ordinary, mundane existence! I cannot believe that God called you to become an boring also-ran when Paul says Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV) Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith God has been showing me that if I aim at nothing, I’ll hit it every time. But if I aim at the moon, I might miss but hit a star. The world constantly tells you to live a life of your own value and worth, but they define value and worth in cars, houses, stocks, jobs and appliances. None of these have any value in eternity. You can be less than average in society, but full of value and worth in eternity, because your value is not in what you do but in who you are. You are a saved, redeemed sinner, set free from sin and death by His grace, and set on fire to impact the world by His Spirit! You are of value regardless of what you do. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! We could stay right there, valued by useless. But why should we be content with being average, garden variety Christians? Why should we be happy with an ordinary life? I might sound like an infomercial, but wait, I believe there is more! Ephesians 3:20 (ESV) Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, That’s not a mundane, average verse! God can and will give us not just the ordinary, not even abundance, but far more, exceedingly abundantly beyond all we could ask or think. The secret is in seeking Him first, not seeking the others things. We must seek God’s face, not just His hand. The great news is that, when we honestly seek the Lord with all our heart, He promises that He will live in us by His Spirit. Christianity is not about living our best for God; it is about dying to self and about Christ living His best in us. Our great weakness in serving Christ is self confidence. The choice is simple: either we deny self or we deny Christ. Psalms 37:4 (ESV) Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. HOW TO LIVE AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE As believers, we should desire a life that’s beyond average. But too often we settle for a life that’s “just okay” instead of extraordinary. I guarantee you that right now there are people here who are settling for being ordinary. Settling for what is safe, what is comfortable or what is familiar, not what is right or what is extraordinary. We shouldn’t settle for a good marriage when we could have a great marriage. We shouldn’t settle for an average Christian walk when would could affect the world around us for Jesus, please our Father in Heaven and build gold silver and costly stones instead of wood hay and straw. You see, we can settle for mediocrity with mundane jobs and minimal ministries – or we can take action to escape apathy and live life in ways that are beyond our wildest imaginations. You don’t have to be talented or smart or good looking or gifted to be extraordinary. I can think of many people with those characteristics amounting to zero in God’s Kingdom. It is not about your ability, it’s about your availability! So how do we become more active, passionate, and joyful followers of Jesus Christ? How do we ramp up our Christian life to serious put a dent in eternity? Are you even available for God to use? Here’s three virtues that will help you move your life beyond average to Holy Spirit led awesomeness, and an extraordinary life… 1. CHOOSE TO BE OBEDIENT Every day we face a choice… Obedience to Christ, or our own desires. So how do you know what you need to obey God about? Reading His Word draws you to Him, and allows the Holy Spirit to speak to you. He speaks through His Word. Remember what Jesus said? “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Obedience to God and His Word will move you from apathy to action! We’re commanded to be witnesses, faithful worshipers, and prayer warriors; to give generously to the work of Christ; and to love God’s Word. We’re commanded to live holy lives for Christ (not just happy, but holy). Are you living in obedience to God’s instructions? God has placed you where you are to be a witness for Him. When you’re obedient to God in everything you do, He’ll use you in powerful, meaningful ways for His Kingdom. Deuteronomy 30:19 (ESV) I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, Obeying Christ is life and life to the full, both for you, and for your wife or husband, and your kids, and their kids, and those around you. Blessings and cursing, Life and death… Now choose extraordinary life! 2. CHOOSE TO BE DILIGENT Choose to be diligent in serving God wholeheartedly. Romans 12:11 (ESV) Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Frankly, some Christians are slothful, slack and apathetic, which is being pathetic and having an app for that! Christians should not be apathetic, because the world is watching you, at school, at the shops, at work or in the home. Apathy is the enemy of extraordinary. We may have found a cure for most evils; but we have found no remedy for the worst of them all, the apathy of human beings. – Helen Keller Christians should be relied upon as being diligent, resourceful people, not those who squeak by doing the bare minimum. We should in all areas be excellent. Matthew 5:16 (ESV) In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. People are watching not what you say, but your deeds, what you do. If you long to live and extraordinary life, be diligent 2 Peter 1:10 (ESV) Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 3. CHOOSE TO BE RESILIENT Which means, keep going. There are times in life that it all just seems to be too much, we are overwhelmed, we are weary and down and despondent. I’ve been right there this week, so have many of you. But whatever happens to you, I’m speaking prophetically to someone here today, I implore you in the Lord, keep going. If you’re walking through he shadow of death, don’t stop, don’t camp there, don’t set up your life there, keep on going! I want to have resilient faith that remains constant and unmoved against all odds, because people are dying, people are broken, and we’ve been called to help. Proverbs 21:21 (ESV) Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honour. Pursue is the Hebrew RADAP, which means pursue, chase after or run after. It means to chase down. And the one who pursues righteousness and kindness, who pursues God and His Kingdom, they chase it down and pay any cost, and they never give up! YOU CAN CHOOSE THE LIFE YOU LIVE You have the power this very day to choose the life you want to live. You can choose an ordinary, mundane, just squeaking by existence, or you can choose an extraordinary life, and life to the full. As you choose to keep pursuing true obedience, tenacious diligence, and tough resilience, you’ll go from living an ordinary life to living an extraordinary life that will impact the people around you – and the world! Every great life lived for Jesus Christ and impacting the world for God starts with a choice. I choose not to be average,I choose not to be ordinary. I choose abundant life, I choose Jesus and I choose to be obedient to Him and live an extraordinary life. Many people believe that the key to living the Christian life starts with pious acts, but they are wrong. It really begins with a deep, intimate relationship with Him. God did not create you to live a marginal Christian life characterised by chores and rituals. He desires to have a daily relationship with you where you experience His presence and trust Him for wisdom, courage, and strength in all situations. With every step you take, decision you make, conversation you have, and thought you entertain, the Lord wants to glorify Himself through you. He desires to shine in your life—with His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control illuminating your unique talents, traits, and personality as you walk in obedience to Him. People think that Jesus Christ came to earth to make bad men good. He didn’t. He came to make dead men live! That’s why Paul writes, 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All it takes is a choice. I can’t live a victorious life, you can’t live a victorious life, only Jesus can, by His Spirit within us. He lives life to the full, but only when we choose to give Him our life. Choose now whom you will serve! The church, the world, religion or Jesus Christ. Choose an extraordinary life that both you and your descendent might live! In other words, to live an extraordinary Christian life is to allow Jesus to live in and through you. Your old self dies, and your new self is handed to Him. That is why Paul wrote, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me” (Gal. 2:20). This morning I’m asking you to choose. If you choose to be ordinary and average, you front up and tell the Lord right now. But if you choose to become all He desires for you, if you choose extraordinary life and ministry, tell Him now. If that’s you, you’re in the right place!

Greetings! Welcome to Lechem Panim. In today's passage (1 John 5:1-12) we are going to be talking a lot about assurance; assurance of who Jesus is and assurance of who we are in Him. If You Wake— I recently read a story about [A life insurance agent {who} was speaking with a would-be client. After a long presentation of the risks of not buying the policy, the man was still a bit hesitant. “I feel that you're trying to frighten me into a hasty decision. “Oh, no, I would never do such a thing!” the agent assured him. “I'll tell you what — Sleep on it tonight. If you wake in the morning, give me a call then and let me know your decision.”] If you want assurance, an insurance agent is not always the best choice. However, when it comes to where we are going to spend eternity, the apostle John wants his readers to have absolute assurance. One of the things that makes 1 John such a valuable epistle is that it's aim is to give us personal assurance of our salvation. While in his Gospel, John writes in order that we might “have” eternal life (John 20:20-31), he wrote this epistle so that we might “know” we have eternal life (I John 5:13). He uses the word "know" 39 times in this epistle alone. John wants us to have the assurance and peace that comes from knowing where we stand with God. Do you know where you stand this morning in your relationship with God? Do you have complete assurance of your salvation. John says we can. We can test ourselves in order to know whether or not we are truly children of God. And John gives us three major tests. Belief in Christ— In verse 1 is the first test: What we believe about Jesus. It says: 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, Both Divine and Human— And as we said before, that involves our believing that Jesus was both fully God and fully man. And as fully God and fully man, He died on the cross for the atonement of our sins and was raised from the dead in order that we also might experience victory over sin and death. So belief in who Jesus claims to be and placing our faith and trust in Him for salvation is how we receive salvation. Love for God's Children— Now in the second part of verse 1 we are given the second test: and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. If we are truly saved, then we will truly love the Father. And if we love the Father the way we ought to, we will love and care about those He loves and cares about. Now John has made this point before. Remember he records in his Gospel Jesus saying in… John 13:34-35 (ESV)— 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Obvious, but Not Easy— Now we know that we are supposed to love each other; that's obvious. But just because something is obvious doesn't mean it's easy. I think sometimes we forget how difficult this really is. How do we think about that sibling who has wounded us? That person at church who has wounded us? Those people who you run into in life who, when you are down, enjoy kicking you and making you feel small? What about that person at work who always makes your job harder by how they do theirs. In our thought life, how do we view them? Do we love them? Apart from God, that love becomes very difficult; actually impossible. We can never truly love our brother or sister or neighbor until we first love the Father in and through Jesus Christ. Our love for God can enable us to love them because we love them not for their own sakes, but for Christ's sake. And John is very careful to connect the two. We love our brothers and sisters and neighbors by first loving God. If we truly love Him and maintain that relationship, He will perfect the love we have for others. He says in verse 2… 1 John 5:2-3a (ESV)— 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. Obeying God's Commands— And in that verse is contained the third test of genuine Christianity: loving God and obeying his commands. If we truly love God, then we will keep His commands. And more than that, we will want to keep His commands. They will be a joy. As the second part of verse 3 says: And his commandments are not burdensome. Now why are they not burdensome? Because His Law; His commands are not just regulations He comes up with, but are an expression of His very nature and character. And therefore if we truly love Him, we will love His nature and character and therefore as a result will also love His Law and practice His commands. Overcome the World— Now verses 4-5 mark what is perhaps one of the most encouraging passages in scripture. It says… 1 John 5:4-5 (ESV)— 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? Living in Light— Through faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, we can have victory over sin and temptation because we can, as John says, abide by the commands that God has given us. We can live in His light and have victory over the darkness merely because of the fact that we are abiding in the Light of the World and He in us. And if we allow Him, He can expel all darkness in us and also much of the darkness around us as we bring the light of Christ to others. And once again if we truly love Christ, then we will want to do that. Refuting Gnosticism— Now during this time there was a false heresy that was developing that served as the foundation for what would later become Gnosticism. And this was a belief system that denied that Jesus Christ had come in the flesh (1Jn 4:1-3; cf. 2Jn 7). And one of the representatives of this belief system was a man named Cerinthus. And he taught that the divine Christ descended upon Jesus at the time of his baptism and then left him before he died on the cross. And so (they claim) that “Christ' never experienced death. Now WE know that it was necessary that Jesus (as the Christ) die in order to atone (to pay for) the sins of the world. And you cannot be a true Christian without believing in that foundational truth. This is why John has been trying to emphasize throughout this epistle first that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh (1 John 4:2) and secondly, those who believe that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh are “of God” and have been “born of God” (1 John 4:2; 5:1a). And in defense of this John presents to us specific witnesses we have concerning the truth that Jesus is the Christ and that he has come in the flesh. 1 John 5:6a (ESV)– 6 This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. The Water— Now the "water" refers to Jesus' baptism in the Jordan river, when the Father spoke from heaven and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt. 3:13–17). And you will remember that after he came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit descended and rested upon him as a dove. And this was one of the means by which the Father testified (audibly from heaven) concerning His Son; right at the beginning of Jesus' ministry. Talk about validation!!! The Blood— Now the second witness is “the blood”. And “the blood” refers to Jesus' death on the cross and the testimony that was born of Jesus as He was hanging there. At the end of Jesus' ministry [the Father gave further witness as the time drew near for Jesus to die. He spoke audibly to Jesus from heaven, and said, “I have both glorified it [My name], and will glorify it again” (John 12:28). Furthermore, the Father witnessed in miracle power when Jesus was on the cross: the supernatural darkness, the earthquake, and the rending of the temple veil (Matt. 27:45, 50–53). No wonder the centurion cried out, “Truly this was the Son of God!” (v. 54) Jesus did not receive “the Christ” at His baptism and lose it at the cross. On both occasions, the Father witnessed to the deity of His Son.] The Spirit— Now “the water and the blood” are not alone in their witness, but are joined by a third witness: The Holy Spirit. It says in… 1 John 5:6b-8 (ESV)– And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. And so we see that the Holy Spirit is another key witness to the incarnate Christ. And He is certainly a strong witness, for He was heavily involved in every aspect of the earthly life and ministry of Jesus. He was involved in Jesus' conception (Mt 1:20), played an active role in His baptism (Mt 3:16), was with Jesus and led Him during His time of temptation in the wilderness (Lk 4:1), and was upon Him for all of His ministry (Lk 4:18). He also came upon the disciples, sanctifying them and bestowing on them spiritual gifts (Hebrews 2:3-4); and inspiring some of the disciples to author New Testament books and letters. And so the Spirit is a huge witness to who Christ is. And John points out how The Spirit, the water, and the blood, all agree with one another, meaning that they agree in their testimony that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. Now here John continues… 1 John 5:9 (ESV)– 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. The Greater Testimony— And this simply means that since in a court of law we receive and accept the witness of men, how much more should we accept the testimony of God. Isn't he greater? Of course. Now for those who have been “born of God”, it says… 1 John 5:10a (ESV)– 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Confirmation in Our Spirit— And what John (and Jesus) is saying is that when we set out hearts and minds on doing the will of God, we will know that the doctrine of Christ is really from God. We will receive confirmation in our spirit regarding who Jesus really is and who we are in Him as born again believers. Now there are those (obviously) who reject the testimony of God. And John says of them… 1 John 5:10b-12 (ESV)– Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. And what John is saying is that you cannot have life apart from Jesus. All these witnesses that John is talking about (witnesses to who Christ is) ought to lead us to place our faith in Him as the ONLY source of life there is; and to follow Him with a complete and total commitment of ALL of who we are to Him. When we truly place our faith in Jesus like that, there will be (like John says) that fruit; that evidence in our lives demonstrated in righteousness and love; and we can have assurance that we are indeed children of God. And if you want to experience that deeper relationship with Him today, open your heart to God in prayer and invite Him to begin that work in you. And as it says in… Philippians 1:6b (ESV)— …he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Teen to Adult(14 - 18)STAGE 3:Self-aware to Puberty(14 months - 10)The child should start to experience unpleasant repercussions to negative actions as soon as the child shows a knowledge of right and wrong.This is usually before the age of one.If a child hasn’t been disciplined by the age of two you will be behind and need to catch up.Heart issues with child raising:Lack of personal discipline.We live vicariously through our kids.Kids can tell when love is issued based on performance.We want to relive our school days through our kids.Offense when our child incurs the repercussion of their actions throughanother person or entity.When our children break rules at school or with the law we become angry with the police officer or teacher (or whoever the disciplinary entity is).Won’t discipline due to a lack of control with anger that makes you feel shameful later.Boundaries With KidsThe parent who cannot tolerate being hated will not be able to provide the reality the child needs to overcome feeling entitled. Love and limits are the most important qualities for a parent. The ability to tolerate being hated and seen as 'bad'is a parent’s next most important quality. God, as the ultimate parent, is able to do what is right and to take a stand, no matter what anyone thinks of him. He loves, but he has his standards and keeps them, even when we do not like it.DISCIPLINEDiscipline is very clear in the bible:Proverbs 13:24 ESV Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.Proverbs 23:13-14 AMP Withhold not discipline from the child; for if you strike and punish him with the [reedlike] rod, he will not die. You shall whip him with the rod and deliver his life from Sheol.Proverbs 29:17 ESV Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.Proverbs 19:18 ESV Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death.Hebrews 12:9-11 NLT Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn't we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God's discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness.No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it's painful! They will grow up with confused boundaries that lead to the opposite: trying to control others and being out of control of themselves. In fact, an accurate description of children is that they are little people who are out of control of themselves and attempting to control everyone around them. The Importance of Why Jesus HAD to be raised from the Dead. Morning Service: The most important holiday for Christians is not Christmas but Easter. Because in Easter we celebrate the victory of Jesus over our sin, over death, over evil. Jesus has reconciled man to God by paying a debt you and I cannot pay. [1Co 15:12 ESV] Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? [1Co 15:13 ESV] But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. [1Co 15:14 ESV] And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. [1Co 15:15 ESV] We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. [1Co 15:16 ESV] For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. [1Co 15:17 ESV] And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. In Titus 3 Paul is clear that before God saved us we were foolish, given to fleshly passions and were hating one another. That is great news! This is the GOSEPL of JESUS CHRIST! Because this is true, the scripture is very very very very clear.... did I say very? Yes, very clear that those who walk in the way Christ walked are in Christ, and if they do not, then they are not in Christ. So the purpose of my writing today is to answer one simple question: Why do so many pastors live in disharmony, hate, envy, gossip and murderous ways against each other and people among them? Scripture names the reasons, let's look at a few today: Unbelief This means that the guy who walks around talking bad, gossiping, hating others, not loving the brethren and feeling envy against others is an unbeliever. He may have "professed" Christ, and he may have even been sincere, but this profession is just like the one that the devil will proclaim, worthless. It's just words, nothing more. He may even have great training and knowledge of scripture, but because of his life, and his lack of love, he is a worthless nothing of wicked proportions. Now before you call these statements as the like of their "kind", let me show you the same thing in the Word of God. They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work. (Titus 1:16 ESV) Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned. (Titus 3:1-11 ESV) If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (1 John 1:6 ESV) Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. (1 John 2:4-6 ESV) Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. (1 John 2:9-11 ESV) So, the man of "god" that hates his brother is a liar. He isn't a man of God, he is a man of the god of this world, the devil. Pride Well, I could just really stop with the first one, because being a slave to pride is a mark of an unbeliever, not a true child in a common faith.
