And trust me, they're not what you'd expect. I'm a creature of curiosity who loves a good deep dive into scientific research that maybe the public isn't looking at yet. But here's something you should know about me first: I'm not an early adopter. I'm a hardcore skeptic who takes everything with a grain of salt until I've done my own research and my intuition tells me it's correct. This is especially important in the holistic wellness space where people love to talk about topics as if they're the end-all-be-all for everyone. From nanoplastics that actually infiltrate our individual cells (way scarier than microplastics) to the incredible research on how specific microbes can literally digest these plastics out of our bodies, I'm sharing what's got me excited about the future of detoxification. Instead, I'm giving you the framework to live from a place of peace, not panic, when it comes to toxins in your everyday life.I've been exactly where you are. Confused, spending too much money on products that didn't work, and battling anxiety every time a fear-based reel popped up in my feed. But here's what I've learned after 18 years as an environmental law expert and healing from autoimmune issues: you don't need to be afraid when you have the right knowledge and know where to find reputable information. In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on my signature course, Toxin Free in 3, and sharing exactly what it takes to build sustainable, lifelong habits around clean living. But today I'm talking with the one inventor whose products I actually recommend and use myself. In today's episode, I'm sitting down with Ben Salem, the inventor and owner of WaveBlock. We're diving deep into EMFs, radiation exposure, and why most "protection" devices on the market are not only useless but potentially dangerous. Ben's story is fascinating. He's a natural inventor who converted his entire home office into a Faraday cage during the pandemic and tested every EMF product he could find online, only to discover that most either didn't work or actually made radiation exposure worse. What I love about Ben is that he's realistic about technology. He's not telling you to throw your phone away or go live in a cave. He recognizes that these devices aren't going anywhere, so he's creating practical solutions that reduce exposure while still allowing your technology to function. His wave-breaking theory, inspired by watching ocean waves crash on sand, led to a breakthrough that reduces phone radiation by up to 80%.In this episode, we're chatting about:• Why most EMF protection products make exposure worse • The shocking truth about Bluetooth vs. 5G • Outdated safety standards • Practical protection strategies Mentioned in this episode:Toxin free in 3 2025 ad
Ready to take Toxin Free to a whole new level?Register for the Private Podcast: Toxins, Truth & Taking ControlGet on the Toxin Free in 3 Waiting ListToday, we're chatting with one of my youngest Toxin Free in 3 students. When she realized the work she was doing as a speech language pathologist was being impeded by the chemicals coming from home, she knew she wanted to learn more about the root problem. What started as curiosity about why she was seeing so many more autism diagnoses and chronic illnesses in her young patients led to a revelation about the toxic load these kids were carrying, and how it was affecting her own health too. Michelle's story is fascinating because she made the connection between the disinfectants being used in schools (which are literally made with pesticides) and her constant headaches. Then, she realized she was putting a bandaid on symptoms instead of addressing root causes. After taking my course, she didn't just overhaul her own home. She even launched a toxin-free house cleaning service and now trains apartment complexes and gyms to swap their harsh chemicals for plant-based alternatives that actually save them money!I love that Michelle represents the younger generation who's getting ahead of health issues instead of waiting until they're sick to make changes. Her approach to teaching businesses about proper disinfection (spoiler: most people don't know you have to leave Clorox on surfaces for 10 minutes) is changing how entire communities think about what "clean" really means. In this episode, we're chatting about:• How toxic chemicals were impeding Michelle's therapy• Building a toxin-free cleaning business • Training businesses to go clean • The disinfectant truth Follow Michelle on Instagram HERE

A few weeks ago when those viral reels started spreading panic about Organipeel being approved for certified organic produce, people asked me to look into it. I did my research, found it registered with the EPA and listed on the OMRI website, and confirmed it was "real." But I didn't dig deep enough. Here's what I missed: Organipeel was only ever approved as a post-harvest fungicide (not a coating). It was never approved for use on raw produce, and was actually discontinued in 2023. The company doesn't even make it anymore. So all that panic about a "new" coating on organic produce? It was based on old, irrelevant information. But here's what IS true: there are waxes on your organic produce, and there have been for years. I'm breaking down what those actually are: organic carnauba wax from Brazilian palm plants, beeswax, and sometimes shellac (yes, insect wax). I'm also touching on why they're used to replace the natural wax that gets washed off during processing. If you want truly wax-free produce, you're going to need to befriend your local farmer. In this episode, we're chatting about:• The Organipeel myth breakdown • What's actually on your organic produce • My research mistake • Getting truly wax-free produce Mentioned in this episode:Register for The Private PodcastThe 4 Part Series: Toxins, Truth & Taking Control with take you from confused to confident. What makes Whitney's story so powerful is that she already had the educational background and had been living toxin-free for a decade, but she still found massive value in understanding the "why" behind ingredient safety.Whitney shares how ditching fragrances and forever chemicals helped her become functional again after years of being completely bedridden, and why she's now creating solutions like a searchable clean product database where people can shop by their value. Whether that's zero waste, regeneratively grown, or just "clean but it has to actually work." What makes Julie so special is that she actually formulated her own sunscreen in-house. This is something most clean skincare companies won't even attempt because of the FDA approvals, drug facts panels, and complexity involved. We dive deep into why she spent evenings and weekends for months perfecting her sunscreen formula, how she fought back against manufacturers who tried to sneak in butyl octyl salicylate (a chemical UV filter disguised as an inactive ingredient), and why she believes our skin hasn't changed much since we were cave people, it's just the products we're using that are causing problems. This conversation gets real about the manufacturing industry, why brands get pressured to compromise their formulations, and how Julie created a zinc oxide sunscreen that doesn't leave you looking like a ghost or feeling like you have cement on your face.In this episode, we're chatting about:• The sunscreen formulation journey• Regenerative vs. organic sourcing • Manufacturing industry truths• Sensitive skin solutions Mentioned in this episode:Wyld Notes Get 10% off Wyld Notes Botanical Perfume: https://wyldnotes.com/discount/WENDY10?ref=KathrynOstapukRegister for The Private PodcastThe 4 Part Series: Toxins, Truth & Taking Control with take you from confused to confident. This was a well-known side effect her doctor never warned her about! Seven years later, she still can't run and lives with permanent damage from what should have been informed consent. But here's what really got to me: Jenn told me she left my course completely fear-free after years of following practitioners on Instagram who were constantly sharing scare tactics. She said, "I left that course with no fear," and I honestly got emotional hearing that because that's exactly my goal: to give women mental and emotional armor to navigate the clean living space without panic. In this episode, we're chatting about:• Fluoroquinolone toxicity• Fear-based wellness content • Functional medicine accessibility• Alternative breast health screening

Here's the truth: sweat itself doesn't smell. It's the bacteria thriving at a pH of 5.5 to 7 under your arms that creates that funky odor! Clean deodorants work by driving your pH either way up (like Just Ingredients with magnesium hydroxide) or way down (like KosasSport with alpha hydroxy acids) so bacteria can't survive. But here's what nobody tells you: what works in winter might fail you in summer, and what works for average sweaters might not work for heavy sweaters.I'm doing a complete breakdown of my three go-to deodorants: Primally Pure for most of the year, Just Ingredients for sensitive skin, and KosasSport for those brutal summer months. The truth is, it's not the detergent's fault. It's your water hardness, your high-efficiency washing machine, and the fact that you need to understand which ingredients actually work in different water conditions!I'm doing a complete ingredient breakdown of three different clean detergents:- the ultra-clean Meliora powder - my go-to Thieves liquid detergent- the controversial Truly Free that works in the hardest water conditions. You'll discover why plant-based surfactants get "gunked up" by minerals, why your high-efficiency washer isn't using enough water to get clothes clean, and the two specific ingredients that make some clean detergents work in hard water (even though some people call them "toxic").This episode will save you from throwing in the towel on clean laundry products and give you the knowledge to choose the right detergent for your specific water situation. But the real culprit isn't the product, it's your water! In the first episode of a three-part "Toxin Free Fails" series , I'm revealing why your expensive clean shampoo might be leaving your hair feeling greasy, buildup-heavy, or just plain dirty. Spoiler alert: it has nothing to do with the quality of the product and everything to do with the mineral content flowing out of your shower head. You'll discover the simple chemistry behind why hard water (over 180 ppm of calcium and magnesium) literally holds plant-based cleansers hostage, making it impossible to rinse them out properly. I break down the difference between ultra-clean brands like Rahua that work best in soft water versus slightly more synthetic options like Evolve and JS Health that contain specific surfactants designed to work in any water condition. This episode will save you from wasting money on products that aren't right for your specific situation and give you actionable solutions. That cheap red light device you bought on Amazon might literally just be a regular light with red film over it. If so, you're missing out on real healing benefits! In today's episode, Dr. Abby Kramer from Fringe Heals joins me to break down everything you need to know about red light therapy. We're going beyond the surface to dive into the actual science: how red light works at the cellular level to supercharge your mitochondria, why specific wavelengths (660nm red and 850nm near-infrared) are crucial, and why most cheap devices are complete scams. The truth is, red light therapy harnesses the same healing wavelengths that come from the sun,the ones that are most abundant at sunrise and sunset. But since the average American spends 93% of their time indoors, we need quality devices that actually deliver therapeutic benefits. Dr. Abby explains why intensity matters more than you think (hint: higher isn't always better), how to avoid EMF exposure from poorly made devices, and why flicker can sabotage your results. We also dive into specific applications that might surprise you: using red light for thyroid health, gut microbiome healing, brain function, and even addressing hormonal acne with therapeutic blue light. Plus, we tackle controversial topics like whether it's safe to look directly at red light (spoiler: the research says yes, with proper precautions) and why the warnings about pregnancy and babies are mostly legal disclaimers rather than science-based concerns. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why most Amazon red light devices are literally fake (and how to spot quality ones) • The specific wavelengths and intensity levels that actually provide therapeutic benefits • How red light therapy works at the mitochondrial level to heal everything from thyroid issues to brain fog • The controversial truth about looking directly at red light (and why it might improve your vision) • Why EMF exposure and flicker in cheap devices can sabotage your healingEPISODE RESOURCESFree: Top 25 Toxins to Avoid Get on the Toxin Free in 3 Waiting List10% off Fringe Red Light with code WENDY10
A massive international study just proved what we've suspected for decades, glyphosate causes cancer even at doses the European Union considers "safe."In today's episode, I'm breaking down the results of the Global Glyphosate Study, led by major institutions including the Ramazzini Institute in Italy, Boston University, and universities across the globe. Over 1,000 rats were tested, with control groups receiving zero glyphosate and three other groups receiving amounts equivalent to what the EU deems safe for human consumption. The results are devastating: all groups exposed to glyphosate developed tumors and cancers, with leukemia being the most prevalent, especially in rats exposed during the prenatal stage. This isn't some fringe research. This is an international coalition of credible universities providing evidence that glyphosate infiltrates our entire food system and causes cancer. Meanwhile, Bayer and Monsanto continue trying to get immunity laws passed across the United States, claiming farmers can't grow food without glyphosate. But here's the truth: regenerative and organic farming doesn't require synthetic pesticides, it's just that we've destroyed our soil with decades of chemical agriculture. The solution isn't just individual action (though I'll share practical steps you can take), it's systemic change. We need to call our representatives and demand two things: no liability shields for pesticide companies, and government grants to help farmers transition to regenerative agriculture. This is about more than just our personal health - it's about saving our entire food system. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • The shocking results of testing 1,000+ rats with "safe" levels of glyphosate • Why pesticide companies are fighting for legal immunity across the US • How glyphosate exposure during pregnancy increases childhood leukemia risk • Practical steps to reduce glyphosate exposure in your home and diet • Why we need systemic change, not just individual action, to solve this crisisFree: Top 25 Toxins to AvoidGet on the Toxin Free in 3 Waiting List
Your clean tallow-based sunscreen could be attracting sharks and damaging pool filtration systems. In today's Ask Me Anything episode, I'm answering a question that's been flooding my DMs since I shared my thoughts on tallow-based sunscreens while at the beach in San Diego. While I absolutely love PrimallyPure's new regenerative, organic tallow-based SPF for hiking and outdoor activities, there are two specific situations where I wouldn't use this type of sunscreen.First, let's talk about the ocean. Sharks have an incredible sense of smell, especially when it comes to animal fats. During shark season when great whites migrate past the California coast, the last thing I want to do is slather myself in tallow and go surfing at dawn or dusk when attacks are more likely. Yes, shark attacks are rare, but why take an unnecessary risk when there are plenty of other clean mineral sunscreen options? The second issue is chlorinated pools. Tallow is not water-soluble, so it separates from pool water, floats on top, and accumulates in filtration systems and piping, just like pouring cooking oil down your drain. This can seriously damage pool equipment and interfere with chlorine's ability to sanitize the water, creating a breeding ground for bacteria. Whether it's a public pool or your own backyard, tallow-based sunscreens and chlorinated water don't mix.In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why sharks are attracted to animal fats and when this matters most • How tallow sunscreens can damage pool filtration systems and piping • The difference between regenerative organic tallow and commercial tallow • When tallow-based sunscreens are actually perfect (hiking, laying out, outdoor activities) • Why sourcing matters when choosing animal fat-based skincare productsGet 20% off Aizome sheets with code WENDYShop the 2025 Clean Sunscreen GuideFree: Top 25 Toxins to AvoidGet on the Toxin Free in 3 Waiting List
Your "all mineral" sunscreen might be lying to you, and the loophole manufacturers are using is completely legal. In this short but crucial episode, I'm exposing a sneaky sunscreen ingredient called butyloctyl salicylate that's being slipped into mineral sunscreens. Still, these products are still allowed to market themselves as "all mineral!" This chemical UV filter doesn't have to be listed in the active ingredients section, so it's hiding in plain sight in the inactive ingredients list, and most people have no idea it's there. The truth is, if you've been diligently checking only the active ingredients section like I've taught you before, you're missing this toxic ingredient that's basically the same as octisalate, which is already on my avoid list for being an endocrine disruptor. Now you need to check both the active AND inactive ingredients sections to make sure you're getting truly clean sun protection. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why butyloctyl salicylate is just octisalate in disguise • How manufacturers are convincing brands to use this sneaky ingredient • Why checking only active ingredients isn't enough anymore • My updated 2025 sunscreen guide with truly clean optionsEPISODE RESOURCESShop the 2025 Clean Sunscreen GuideGet 10% off Wyld Notes with code WENDY10Free: Top 25 Toxins to AvoidGet on the Toxin Free in 3 Waiting List
Things change too quickly to be using an outdated list of ingredients to avoid! In today's episode, I'm breaking down the brand new 2025 update to my most popular freebie - the Top 25 Toxins to Avoid guide. After a year of feedback from my Toxin Free in Three students and watching new trends emerge in the beauty industry, I've made crucial updates that every clean living enthusiast needs to know about. The biggest changes include a new UV sunscreen ingredient that's sneakily appearing in "all mineral" products, an expanded "use with caution" list that addresses bio-individual needs, and a completely new section on microplastics and liquid plastics! But this isn't just about adding more ingredients to avoid. It's about creating a more nuanced, practical approach to clean living that doesn't rely on fear-mongering or clickbait. Most importantly, I'm addressing the core issue plaguing the non-toxic space: the lack of clear standards and informed consent. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • The new UV sunscreen ingredient appearing in "clean" products (and why it matters) • Why some ingredients deserve caution but not complete avoidance • The truth about microplastics in cosmetics and their real impact • How to practice discernment in the fear-based clean beauty space • Why informed consent should be the foundation of your clean living journeyMentioned in this episode:Wyld Notes Get 10% off Wyld Notes Botanical Perfume: https://wyldnotes.com/discount/WENDY10?ref=KathrynOstapuk
Your polyester pajamas are literally plastic, and they're affecting your hormones, fertility, and skin health in ways you never imagined. In today's conversation with Michel, founder of Aizome Textiles, we dive deep into the toxic reality of the modern textile industry. Aizome is one of the only 100% organic cotton, plant-dyed textile companies! From the 10,000+ unregulated chemicals used in clothing production to the microplastics flooding our oceans, the fashion industry has created a health crisis that most people don't even realize they're experiencing. The science is clear: polyester clothing has been shown to dramatically decrease testosterone and fertility in men, with effects reversing only after months of removing synthetic fabrics. Meanwhile, synthetic dyes made from the same petroleum-based chemicals as plastic are causing contact dermatitis in 70% of people with sensitive skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Even "clean" laundry detergents can't remove the bacterial buildup that creates that distinctive smell in polyester clothing. But there's hope. In this episode, Michael shares practical steps for transitioning to safer textiles, starting with the items that matter most: bedding (since you spend 8 hours a day in contact with sheets), underwear, and daily-wear items. Plus, learn about the regulatory landscape and how consumer demand is finally driving change in this massive industry. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why polyester clothing is linked to decreased fertility and hormone disruption • The 10,000+ chemicals used in textile production (most completely unregulated) • How synthetic dyes cause skin reactions in 70% of people with contact dermatitis • Practical steps for transitioning to non-toxic clothing and bedding • Why washing new clothes multiple times is crucial for sensitive individualsShop the episode:GET 20% OFF AIZOME 100% ORGANIC COTTON, PLANT DYED SHEETS WITH CODE WENDY
Your clean living journey doesn't have to be perfect to be valid, and this conversation proves it.In today's episode, I'm teaming up with my "woo woo bestie," Suzy to tackle the elephant in the room: the elitism and perfectionism that's plaguing the toxin-free community. Suzy represents the majority of well-intentioned consumers in the US. She's slowly making clean swaps, one by one, but she's still working on a budget and holding on to a few things others might deem "toxic."Meanwhile, I literally packed my own clean sheets on a trip to Bali (where my bag was weighed, might I add). Listen, we all weigh our priorities and make decisions accordingly. You don't have to go from 0 to 100 in your toxin free journey, and anyone that makes you feel like a failure for having one or two toxins in your cabinet is probably a hypocrite.Through honest stories about our "incident" on a bus in Bali, Suzy's eye-opening experience cleaning with conventional products in an Airbnb, and the reality of budget constraints, we're exposing how shame-based messaging is actually pushing people away from making healthier choices. The conversation gets real about accessibility, with discussions about food deserts, Title I schools, and the controversy around better-but-not-perfect products. Most importantly, we celebrate the small wins that actually matter: choosing phenoxyethanol over BHT, switching from Bath & Body Works to Attitude products, or simply reading ingredient labels for the first time. Bottom line: If 96% of Americans chose the "better" option at Target instead of the worst option, companies would be forced to reformulate. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why the "all or nothing" mentality is harming the clean living movement • How budget constraints and accessibility issues affect product choices • The difference between reproductive toxins and "imperfect" ingredients • Why celebrating small improvements creates lasting change • How to support your body naturally without expensive devicesRead the Shownotes

While many brands focus on organic ingredients, EvanHealy is pioneering a movement that goes beyond basic sustainability. They strive to actively heal the soil, support farming communities, and create products with unprecedented potency and purity. The difference between organic and regenerative organic is striking. It's not just about avoiding pesticides, but about farming practices that enhance soil health, prevent erosion, and create more nutrient-dense plants. Jamie explains how EvanHealy works directly with farmers across the globe. From Morocco to Ghana, creating transparent supply chains that honor both the land and the people who tend it. This approach results in products like their whipped shea butter, which maintains its therapeutic properties through careful processing techniques. In this episode, we also unveil Evan Healy's latest innovation - their Irish Sea Moss and Tremella Mushroom Hydrosol Cream - and discuss why their commitment to regenerative practices creates skincare that's not just clean but truly transformative. As an environmental attorney, I'll break down why Just Ingredients chose to stick with whole foods rather than switch to artificial flavors, even when faced with legal challenges.By the end of this episode, you'll be equipped to see through the social media outrage and make truly informed choices about your supplements, staying "informed but not afraid" in this confusing wellness landscape. In this episode, we're chatting about:• The truth behind California's Proposition 65 warnings and what they actually mean • Why whole food supplements might trigger warning labels while synthetic ones don't • The difference between naturally occurring trace elements and dangerous contamination • How Just Ingredients maintains transparency through rigorous testing protocols (see their press release here)• Why I still trust these products for my own family despite the controversyEpisode ResourcesGet 10% off Our Place Titanium Pro Pans with code WENDY10 Get 10% off Just Ingredients with code WENDYKATHRYN
After 18 years of debilitating migraines, I discovered that synthetic fragrances were the hidden trigger my doctors never mentioned. When I recently experienced my first severe migraine in over a decade after returning from Bali, I immediately knew what to do. And guess what? It didn't involve medication that had previously damaged my gut and liver! Here's what actually worked for me:
Your laundry detergent could be causing your child's mysterious rash, and the cleaning industry doesn't want you to know it.In this eye-opening conversation with Steven, founder of Truly Free Home, I dive deep into the toxic reality of conventional cleaning products. Steven's journey began when his infant son developed a horrific rash from store-bought laundry detergent: a crisis that transformed him from a New York City chef into a mission-driven entrepreneur determined to create truly non-toxic cleaning products that actually work. What makes this conversation particularly powerful is Steven's unfiltered honesty about the cleaning industry's dirty secrets. With over 12,000 chemicals banned in Europe but only 16 restricted in the US, American consumers are largely unprotected from harmful ingredients hiding in everyday products. Through years of innovation and testing, Truly Free has developed effective, non-toxic alternatives that perform in real-world conditions - even in hard water.Beyond creating safer products, Truly Free is making a global impact through initiatives that rescue women from slavery and provide sustainable employment. Now, Steven is expanding his mission with Truly Free Market, a decentralized social commerce platform designed to connect mission-driven brands with conscious consumers. Whether you're concerned about your family's health or looking to support companies making a difference, this conversation reveals how your everyday purchases can create meaningful change. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • The shocking story of how Stephen's son's rash led to the creation of Truly Free • Why most "clean" laundry detergents fail in hard water (and how Truly Free solved it) • Why Truly Free offers a nature identical fragrance option• How Truly Free's Dryer Angel product has rescued hundreds of women from slavery • Details about the new Truly Free Market platform connecting ethical brands with consumersGET 100 FREE LOADS WITH THE LAUNDRY BUNDLEJOIN THE TRULY FREE MARKETGet Wyld Notes: Use code WENDY10 for 10% offMentioned in this episode:Wyld Notes Get 10% off Wyld Notes Botanical Perfume: https://wyldnotes.com/discount/WENDY10?ref=KathrynOstapuk
Your filtered water might be clean, but it's also dead, and that's why you're not feeling as good as you should. In this eye-opening conversation with Dr. Abby Kramer, co-founder of Fringe Heals, we dive deep into the world of electrolytes, minerals, and the honest truth about the supplement industry. While most supplements don't deliver on their promises and contain hidden ingredients like maltodextrin and artificial flavors, proper mineral supplementation is one of the few areas where quality products can create immediate, noticeable improvements in your health. The reality is stark: our soil and water have become severely depleted of essential minerals, leaving most people deficient in these critical nutrients. Even if you're filtering your water for safety (which you should), you're likely removing the minerals your body desperately needs. This deficiency affects everything from energy levels and anxiety to sleep quality and muscle recovery. In this episode, Dr. Kramer shares her journey creating truly clean electrolyte and magnesium supplements, why most products on the market miss the mark, and how proper mineral balance can transform your health. Whether you're dealing with brain fog, muscle soreness, or just want to optimize your wellness routine, you'll learn why minerals might be the missing piece in your health puzzle. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why most electrolytes on the market contain hidden ingredients not listed on the label • How mineral deficiency affects your energy, anxiety, and overall wellbeing • The truth about reverse osmosis water and why it needs remineralization • Why magnesium is involved in over 800 biochemical processes in your body • How to identify quality supplements in an unregulated industryGet 10% off Fringe Electrolytes with code WENDY10
Register for the Annual Cultivate Seeds of Fertility Summit happening April 23-25, 2025.Polyester underwear could be sabotaging your fertility, and most couples trying to conceive have no idea.In this eye-opening episode, I dive into fascinating research dating back to the 1990s that shows a direct connection between polyester underwear and decreased fertility. A prolific surgeon with over a thousand published studies discovered that dogs wearing polyester underwear became infertile, with low sperm motility and other reproductive issues that reversed when the polyester was removed. (Dr. Shafik https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8279095/)Similar studies on human males showed comparable results, even affecting sexual desire and activity. What's particularly interesting is that while these studies initially focused on static electricity from polyester. We now know that chemicals commonly added to polyester fabrics including flame retardants, phthalates, BPA, and PFAS are all known reproductive toxins. This makes the switch to natural fiber underwear even more crucial for anyone concerned about fertility. If you're trying to conceive or planning to in the future, this episode provides practical guidance on finding stylish, comfortable 100% cotton underwear options for both you and your partner. Plus, I invite you to the upcoming Cultivate Seeds of Fertility Summit, where I'll be sharing more insights on eliminating toxins that impact fertility, including a free downloadable checklist to help you create a fertility-friendly environment. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • The scientific evidence linking polyester underwear to decreased fertility • Why chemicals in polyester affect reproductive health and development • How to find stylish, comfortable 100% cotton underwear options • The best natural fiber underwear brands for both women and men • Details about the upcoming Cultivate Seeds of Fertility SummitMentioned in this episode:Toxin Free Faves adsHead over to toxinfreefavorites.com to shop all the toxin-free goodies that you would find in my home. Your "clean" foundation probably contains liquid plastic. And even the most popular clean beauty brands are defending its use.I'm taking a diving deep into a controversial topic in clean beauty: the use of liquid plastics like polyethylene in makeup. While brands like Merit and Ilia market themselves as clean, they're using ingredients that contribute to our growing environmental plastic crisis. The argument from these companies is that liquid plastic molecules are too large to be absorbed by your skin and therefore "safe." But when you wash these products down your drain, they join the microplastics in our water system, eventually making their way back into our food, water, and bodies. Even small amounts matter when we consider the cumulative environmental impact. In this episode, I break down the science behind liquid plastics in cosmetics, share which brands are truly clean, and explain why I'm considering adding these ingredients to my official toxins to avoid list. Whether you're concerned about environmental impact or just want to make informed choices about your makeup, you'll learn how to identify and avoid liquid plastics in your beauty products. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why popular clean beauty brands are defending the use of liquid plastic • How to identify plastic ingredients in your makeup • The environmental impact of washing these products down the drain • Which brands are truly plastic-free • The difference between microplastics and liquid plastics in cosmeticsWendy's Non-Toxic Makeup PicksDownload the Top 25 Toxins to Avoid and become a label reading pro! Just because a company claims to sell "clean" perfume doesn't mean it's actually free from harmful chemicals. As a former environmental toxins attorney turned Clean Living Coach, I've discovered that most "clean" fragrance brands are still using synthetic ingredients and denatured alcohols that can disrupt your hormones and impact your health. The truth is, there are only four truly clean perfume companies on the market right now - and most popular "clean" brands don't make the cut.Understanding what makes a perfume truly clean requires looking at three key factors: the alcohol base, fragrance ingredients, and transparency in labeling. While many brands claim to use "safe synthetics," this term has no regulatory definition and often masks the use of petroleum-derived chemicals that haven't been properly studied for long-term health effects. In this episode, I break down exactly what to look for in a clean perfume, why denatured alcohol is problematic, and which four brands are creating genuinely clean fragrances. Whether you're dealing with sensitivities or simply want to make informed choices about what you put on your body, you'll learn how to evaluate perfume brands beyond their marketing claims. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why "safe synthetics" is a meaningless marketing term • The truth about denatured alcohol in perfumes • How to identify truly clean fragrance ingredients • The only four brands creating genuinely clean perfumes • What makes a perfume actually safe versus just "clean" marketedWendy's Non-Toxic PicksDownload the Top 25 Toxins to Avoid and become a label reading pro! There hasn't been a single fragrance brand that has cracked the code on creating a fragrance that is 100% botanical, has zero synthetics, uses non- denatured alcohol AND smells like a truly fine fragrance with all it's complexities (until now!). One or two have gotten close, but consumers complain they smell too strongly of layered essential oils and not enough like the perfumes they miss. Don't get me wrong, I wear essential oils all day and love them. But I missed having a perfume to love. The other thing is that most of them are still using petroleum derived additives in their denatured alcohol. When my friend Gaya, the visionary CEO behind Wyld Notes, approached me about ingredients for the this new 100% synthetic free fragrance line, I honestly didn't realize just how difficult it would be to create something that was 100% natural. This podcast is our story, the behind the scenes that takes you from the vision to the creation of Wyld Notes. (launching in March!). We expose why the "clean" fragrance movement isn't as clean as you think it is and why Wyld Notes is so different than anything else out there. Nearly every child today is developing with an airway that's too small for their tongue, and most parents have no idea it's happening. In this crucial conversation with Dr. Hilary Fritsch, an airway-focused dentist, we expose why so many American children need braces, struggle with focus, or experience chronic health issues. The truth is, symptoms like mouth breathing, snoring, frequent ear infections, and even ADHD-like behavior aren't random - they're often signs of an underdeveloped airway and jaw.The most frustrating part? This epidemic is entirely preventable with early intervention. Through proper screening and treatment starting at age three, children can develop properly-sized airways and jaws, often avoiding the need for braces altogether. This isn't just about straight teeth - it's about your child's sleep, breathing, and long-term health.Whether your child has chronic cavities despite good oral hygiene, struggles with focus, or shows any signs of breathing issues, this episode could change their future. That viral post about lead in your matcha isn't telling you the whole story, and as a former environmental toxins attorney, I'm tired of watching fear-based misinformation spread.Recent sensationalized reports about lead in food have created unnecessary panic, especially around brands like Pique Tea's matcha and Redmond Salt. While no amount of lead is technically "safe," context matters - we live in a world where trace amounts of lead exist naturally in soil, meaning it's present in many healthy, organic foods we eat daily. The science is clear: when you look at actual serving sizes and compare them to FDA guidelines, many of these "shocking" reports are missing crucial context. For example, Pique Tea's matcha contains just 0.14 micrograms of lead per serving - four times lower than California's strict Prop 65 limits, and well within safe consumption guidelines. In this episode, I break down the real numbers, explain what safety levels actually mean, and give you the clarity you need to make informed decisions about your food. That viral post about lavender essential oil causing hormone disruption is based on a 15-year-old myth that's been thoroughly debunked. As a former environmental toxins attorney, I've watched this rumor circulate for years, causing unnecessary fear among parents and wellness enthusiasts. The truth is, the original 2007 case report that started it all was based on just three children using products that likely didn't even contain much real lavender essential oil - they contained synthetic fragrances and known hormone disruptors.A comprehensive 2022 study of 556 children proved what aromatherapists have known all along: pure lavender and tea tree essential oils pose no endocrine disruption risks. The real concern isn't with authentic essential oils - it's with synthetic fragrances and adulterants that often masquerade as "lavender" in personal care products. In this episode, I break down the science, share the actual research, and explain why you can confidently use pure lavender essential oil as part of your wellness routine. You'll learn how to identify quality oils, understand the difference between synthetic fragrances and pure essential oils, and make informed decisions about your family's health.I turned the shownotes in to a super shareable blog post.In today's episode, we're chatting about: • The truth behind the 2007 case report that started the hormone disruption rumor • Why synthetic fragrances are the real endocrine disruptors to avoid • How to identify pure lavender essential oil versus synthetic imposters • The gold-standard research proving lavender's safety If you enjoyed this week's episode, please: Leave a positive review or rating wherever you listen Shop toxin free products on my Toxin Free Shopping Guide Download your free 25 Toxins to Avoid Post a screenshot, share what you loved, and tag me on Instagram @wendy_toxinfreeish Want to ask me a question to get answered on the podcast? Your child's "behavioral issues" might actually be a reaction to what's hiding in their food.As an environmental toxins attorney turned clean living coach, I've witnessed countless families transform their children's lives by simply removing artificial food dyes from their diet. The FDA's recent ban on Red Dye No. 3 isn't just about cancer risks - it's about acknowledging decades of evidence showing how these petroleum-based chemicals affect our children's behavior, emotions, and development.Parents are often dismissed, judged, or made to feel crazy for connecting their children's emotional regulation issues to food dyes. But the reality is stark: children are being misdiagnosed, medicated, and labeled as "difficult" when they're actually having severe reactions to artificial colors hidden in everything from medication to toothpaste. In this episode, I share practical steps for identifying food dye sensitivity, navigating social situations, and advocating for your child. Whether you're dealing with aggression, emotional outbursts, or just curious about the impact of food dyes, you'll learn how to create positive change through informed choices and strategic elimination. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • How to identify if your child has a sensitivity to food dyes • The surprising everyday products that contain artificial food coloring • Step-by-step guide for eliminating dyes from your child's diet • Tips for educating family, friends, and teachers about food dye sensitivity • Practical ways to advocate for systemic change in schools and communitiesRead the Show NotesIf you enjoyed this week's episode, please: Leave a positive review or rating wherever you listen Shop toxin free products on my Toxin Free Shopping Guide Download your free 25 Toxins to Avoid Post a screenshot, share what you loved, and tag me on Instagram @wendy_toxinfreeish Want to ask me a question to get answered on the podcast? Many people don't understand the true devastation caused by single use plastic until they see it. Lindsey McCoy, CEO of Plaine Products, witnessed this environmental challenge firsthand while working to clean up beaches in the Bahamas. After that, she took what she knew from the world of Non-Profit work and started Plaine Products with her sister. Lindsey thought about the original product design for Netflix. Remember when you would get a DVD in the mail and return it when you were done? Well, she thought "why can't we do something like that with beauty products?" Last year alone, they eliminated 110,000 single use plastic bottles. The idea for Plaine Products hasn't come without it's challenges. We're discussing manufacturing roadblocks but we're also touching on best practices for the use of eco-friendly shampoo and conditioners. We're ending the conversation with a discussion about what it actually takes to grow and market products that aren't on the shelves at Target. If you or someone you love is navigating chronic health issues, this episode is for you. Unfortunately, that probably means it's for all of you. Chronic health issues like autoimmune disorders, infertility, and more are normalized in this country. But that doesn't mean they're normal. Today, I'm joined by Kelly Ryerson, the Glyphosate Girl, to learn all about Glyphosate. From simple questions like "what IS Glyphosate?" to more complicated ones like "what is the solution when big corporate companies are trying to shield themselves from being held liable for our health issues that connect to these toxins?" - we're covering it all. And let me tell you, Kelly was the perfect person to have this conversation with. After experiencing health issues that Western doctors were chalking up to nothing, she cut out Gluten as a last ditch effort. And guess what? Things quickly shifted in her favor. She was feeling better but now, she was wondering why. And the special thing about Kelly is that she made it her personal mission to find out what's really going on with Gluten. She attended conferences filled with doctors and bravely asked questions no one else was. And when an important figure in the history of Glyphosate's rise was brought to trial, she sat it on the whole thing and blogged her experience. If you head over to gyphosatefacts.com, you can see all of the facts that we discuss in this episode laid out for you. In this episode, we're chatting about: How Kelly came to be known as the Glyphosate Girl What is Glyphosate anyway? What are the negative health impacts of Glyphosate? How Glyphosate is destroying the environmentWhat can we actually do about this problem? The first thing I tell people to do when they embark of their holistic living journey is to ditch fragrances. It's the first but also often the hardest step to embrace. Fragrances are deeply rooted in our memories of what grandma was cooking as a child and fresh sheets on a Sunday morning. That's why going natural and fragrance-free can be such a difficult step to take. But today, i'm going to tell you WHY you should try to eliminate fragrances from your household. Companies have been manipulating what you buy to trigger these happy memories but they haven't taken your health into account. We''ll get into the specifics of what exactly is in these fragrances that makes them such a problem for your health and its direct relation to infertility, hormone disorders, miscarriage rates, and more. But I won't just leave you anxious about the pervasive use of fragrances in our products. Luckily, we've got so many options to choose in order to avoid these toxins now and I'll dive in to what you'll find in my home and where you can shop for them.If you enjoyed this week's episode, please: Leave a positive review or rating wherever you listen Shop toxin free products on my Toxin Free Shopping Guide Download your free 25 Toxins to Avoid Post a screenshot, share what you loved, and tag me on Instagram @wendy_toxinfreeish Want to ask me a question to get answered on the podcast? Early puberty is not just a psychological bump in the road. Yes, it can be a really isolating event for a child, but it also poses real health risks. We're seeing an increased risk of cancer and cardiovascular issues amongst kids that go through puberty early. So what's causing this in the first place and what can we do to protect our children? Well, scientists think they've found one chemical constituent that actually triggers a girl's body into going into early puberty. The ingredient in question? Musk Ambrette. So today, we're going to talk all about Musk Ambrette - what it is, where it's found, and how you can spot this ingredient in your products. This episode highlights another reason why I'm so adamant about avoiding synthetic fragrance. If you haven't listened to episode 2 (how synthetic fragrances have hijacked our hormones) or episode 58 (on botanical alternatives to synthetic musk), those episodes are good additions to round out your understanding! Should you avoid titanium dioxide in your cosmetics? It's not a simple yes or no answer. Today, I'll be explaining the science behind the risks of titanium dioxide, differentiates between nano and non-nano forms, and outline when and where the ingredient may be safe or unsafe. With this ingredient, it really depends on the product you're using. So don't jump to throw away your favorite products just because you see titanium dioxide on the ingredient list! After listening to this episode, you'll be empowered to make more informed decisions at the check out counter. One thing that's less nuanced than your cosmetics: always avoid titanium dioxide in food! You definitely don't want to be ingesting this stuff! I want to create a culture where it's cool to read labels. Imagine if everybody read labels and really cared about the ingredients that were in our products. Companies would have to start making cleaner products. They would see people gravitating to and purchasing the cleaner products. And we all know our money is the ultimate needle mover. So I created this episode as a bit of an introduction to label reading. If you're new here, this is also a great episode to serve as a roadmap to the rest of the podcast. I know reading labels can be overwhelming for people. When you're shopping, especially if you've got kids in tow, stopping to scan the label might be the last thing on your mind. But when you're armed with the basic knowledge needed to quickly and effectively spot harmful ingredients, it can feel really empowering. Not only will I be going through the most pervasive and harmful ingredients to spot, but I'll also provide a quick list of safer alternatives. When you master this skill, you don't have to wait for me or anyone else to give the red or green light on a product. Have you noticed that 12 step skincare routines are being marketed to younger and younger age groups? Nine year olds are flocking to Sephora to get their fix. How necessary/unnecessary is this? If there some merit to adopting a skincare routine so young? This is just one of the many questions we're answering today with holistic esthetician, Jamie Burkhalter. We're going beyond the consumerism of skincare and reframing it from a routine to a ritual. So whether you've got a teenager at home dealing with acne for the first time or you're wondering how to maintain elasticity as you age, this episode is for you. We're also having an important conversation about the expectations that are put on us by social media. Personally, I've given up filters completely in hopes that I don't pass down insecurities to my children. The truth is, none of us are immune to aging and we should stop touting "anti-aging" products as the holy grail. And finally, we'll be covering Evan Healy, the skincare brand committed to regenerative sourcing and environmental sustainability. Jamie provides a deep dive into the ethos behind their nutrient-rich, plant-based products and the philosophy that prioritizes personal health and the health of our planet. When you hear the words "Grapefruit Seed Extract," what do you picture? For me, images of a nice, juicy grapefruit being hand picked comes to mind. And that's exactly what companies that are labeling their products as "all-natural" want you to see. Unfortunately, grapefruit seed extract is not so innocent. Companies misleadingly market products as "all-natural" while sneaking in hormone-disrupting chemicals like benzalconium chloride, triclosan, and methylparabens. So today, we're digging into the startling findings from a recently published report that tested grapefruit seed extract products from six major companies—all but one contained synthetic preservatives. What this means for your favorite products can be a bit complicated. So tune in to have it laid out super simply. Because here's the thing - your skincare shouldn't be messing with your hormones.
