Many people don't understand the true devastation caused by single use plastic until they see it. Lindsey McCoy, CEO of Plaine Products, witnessed this environmental challenge firsthand while working to clean up beaches in the Bahamas. After that, she took what she knew from the world of Non-Profit work and started Plaine Products with her sister. Lindsey thought about the original product design for Netflix. Remember when you would get a DVD in the mail and return it when you were done? Well, she thought "why can't we do something like that with beauty products?" Last year alone, they eliminated 110,000 single use plastic bottles. The idea for Plaine Products hasn't come without it's challenges. We're discussing manufacturing roadblocks but we're also touching on best practices for the use of eco-friendly shampoo and conditioners. A lot of people complain that toxin-free haircare doesn't do the trick - listen to the episode and you'll walk away with best practices to achieve that squeaky clean feeling.  We're ending the conversation with a discussion about what it actually takes to grow and market products that aren't on the shelves at Target. As Lindsey says, "it's the kindness of strangers," that allows these movements to grow. If you appreciate what Lindsey is doing, consider getting started with Plaine Products through my affiliate link! In today's episode, we're chatting about: Plaine Product's origin story Why Plaine Products uses aloe-based hair careThe why and how behind the nostalgic scents in Plaine Products The impact report that reflects the change Plaine Products is bringing to the world Lindsey's vision of the future for Plaine Products Purhcase your Plaine Products here and use code WENDY for 20% offConnect with Lindsey: InstagramYoutubeDownload the Top 25 Toxins to Avoid and become a label reading pro! Skincare is such an exhausting journey for women all over the world, and we are often left sifting through tons of products and wasted money only to find that nothing is really working for our skin. So what gives? In this episode, I'm speaking with Sara Sumic, molecular biologist, skincare specialist, and former acne sufferer, about why so many women are struggling to find the skincare routine that fits them and that the solution isn't more skincare – it's less. While we have tried to preserve and enhance our skin with the thousands of products on the market, we aren't realizing just how many ingredients we are putting on our skin on a daily basis with these rigid routines. To be able to reap the full benefits of any skincare product, you have to heal your skin barrier and that process is more than skin deep.  Your skin is the last to heal, and without a nourished body, you won't find that radiant, glowing skin you're looking for. Sara and I hit on so many major skincare topics in this episode, like sunscreen, blue light, and the use of tallow and other oils, and how each of these has a different impact on your skin. You won't want to miss this episode. In this episode:[00:00:45] Thanks for joining me on The Fully Nourished Podcast.[00:06:56] Sara shares her personal skincare journey.[00:13:58] What is the skin barrier? [00:15:11] Functions that the skin barrier should be performing naturally without interference.[00:17:55] How hormonal medications, restrictive eating, and fad diets can impact your skin. [00:20:12] Common mistakes that you are making that are perpetuating your acne.[00:23:10] The lipids that are present in the skin barrier and how tallow or other oils can impact these lipids. [00:28:30] Does your skincare routine need to be rigid and structured? [00:30:41] The process of transitioning to a skin-balancing routine.[00:34:01] The link between acne and linoleic acid deficiency.[00:40:20] Impacts of seasonal changes and environmental pollutants on the skin. [00:44:05] Impacts of the sun and blue light on our skin. [00:49:53] Dietary impacts on our skin.[00:57:42] Specific symptoms to look for to identify if you have a damaged skin barrier. [01:00:14] Connect with Sara and get her resources! Links and Resources:Free online course (best place to get started):https://healthyskinglows.com/free-skincare-courseThe Skin Barrier Fix ebook - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BWYNZNN9Discount Codes from Our Sponsors:LoveBirdsLink: https://lovebirdfoods.com/?ref=jessicaashwellnessJESSICAASH for 10% offConnect with Sara:Healthy Skin Glows -https://www.healthyskinglows.com/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/healthyskinglows/YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJN-fdXuRsybXDP4nAo8wQConnect with Jessica:Have Sunday tea with me! There has been a long developed stigma surrounding herbs and their uses in our lives. Common marketing surrounding herbal remedies is often stamped with confusing labels like, “Not FDA approved” and “If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a physician.”What society has forgotten is that these herbs are the plants that our creator gave to us on this planet. They all have a purpose in our lives, from healing to beauty and everything in between—and they shouldn't be considered dangerous if you are in tune with your body, whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or just wanting to seek more natural remedies. My guest in this episode is Arielle De Martinez, and she shares such a refreshing and freeing perspective surrounding herbs and their uses in our everyday lives. Coming from a background as a hairstylist, Arielle began to wake up to the reality that surrounds the beauty and healthcare industries. Shampoos and products that she was using in her client's hair were loaded with the fragrances and endocrine disruptors that we are all striving to get away from when leading a more holistic life. This inspired her to found her own beauty company that centers around whole plant herbalism and the benefits that women can gain from products that are truly natural, not just marketed that way. She and I also dive into the dirty little secret behind essential oils and why they shouldn't be used in our everyday lives. If you're considering leaning into herbalism in your everyday life and replacing some of the over-the-counter drugs and beauty products that plague our society with herbs, this episode is for you! I know you're going to love it. Tune in today! In this episode:[02:19] Welcome my guest, Arielle De Martinez! [03:19] Arielle shares her background and how she found her way into herbalism.[07:05] How Arielle went from a hairstylist into a truly natural beauty product entrepreneur.[10:46] The concept of sovereign haircare and Arielle's hair care routine. [16:39] What is at the core of the fear stigma surrounding herbs? [19:25] The use of herbs during pregnancy and breastfeeding.[27:28] Using your intuition and instincts when using herbs.[29:47] Why you should stop using essential oils.[37:21] The risks of using essential oils during delivery and with infants. [43:41] Arielle's favorite herbs to support beauty.[47:34] Where can we source herbs?[51:50] Do you want to connect with Arielle? What sets apart your everyday real estate investor from an investing expert? While novice investors are focused on cash flow only, veteran landlords focus on something worth much, much more. Thankfully, even if you're just getting started on your investing journey, you don't have to go through the hard work that experts like Dave Meyer and J Scott went through. Instead, you can hear their time-tested advice today, and grab their new book Real Estate by the Numbers! J, a techie turned master flipper has written numerous books on estimating rehab costs, calculating real estate deals, and recession-proof investing. Dave, our VP of Data and Analytics and host of On the Market, has been head-down in housing market data for the past decade. These two real estate investing juggernauts combined their knowledge to write a book that lets every investor, no matter their skill level, find better deals, calculate profits smarter, and build wealth faster. In this episode, we talk about calculating cash flow, ROI, and other metrics that may, or may not, matter as much as you'd think. You'll hear how these two experts use much more than the numbers to define which deals are worth buying. After this episode, you may look at your portfolio differently, or even think about selling some of the properties you thought were “winners” before! In This Episode We Cover:The math behind the real estate deal and which metrics matter more than mostCalculating which properties work best for your portfolio Defining your “buy box” and using it to filter through deals so you can build wealth fasterWhy your property's ROI (return on investment) might be even better than you thinkHow to start thinking like an investing expert and the lump sum vs. cash flow debate Understanding the time value of money and how it'll make you richer quicker And So Much More!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets Youtube ChannelBiggerPockets ForumsBiggerPockets Pro MembershipBiggerPockets BookstoreBiggerPockets BootcampsBiggerPockets PodcastGet Your Ticket for BPCon 2022Listen to All Your Favorite BiggerPockets Podcasts in One PlaceLearn About Real Estate, The Housing Market, and Money Management with The BiggerPockets PodcastsGet More Deals Done with The BiggerPockets Investing ToolsFind a BiggerPockets Real Estate Meetup in Your AreaDavid's BiggerPockets ProfileDavid's InstagramRob's BiggerPockets ProfileRob's YoutubeRob's InstagramRob's TikTokRob's TwitterHere's Why You Should Consider Investing in Senior LivingShould You Invest In Senior Housing (And Is Now the Right Time)?Genworth's Cost of Care SurveyBiggerPockets CalculatorsBooks Mentioned in the Show:Real Estate by the Numbers by Dave Meyer & J Scott and Use Code “DAVE” or “JSCOTT” for 10% OffConnect with Dave & J:J's BiggerPockets ProfileJ's WebsiteDave's BiggerPockets ProfileDave's InstagramClick here to check the full show notes: https://www.biggerpockets.com/blog/real-estate-673Interested in learning more about today's sponsors or becoming a BiggerPockets partner yourself?
