I am honored to have Dr. Joseph Yi joining me on the podcast today. He is a board-certified addiction psychiatrist specializing in holistic psychiatry and detoxification who embraces a lifestyle medicine approach to mental and behavioral well-being.  Dr. Yi caught my attention when he appeared on the Model Health Show with Sean Stephenson. I was instantly captivated by his bright and inquiring mind and knew I had to share his wisdom on Everyday Wellness.  In our conversation, we dive into the effects of the pandemic on screen time and addiction behaviors in children. Dr. Yi shares his expertise on the role of Fentanyl and drug overdose fatalities, challenges the notion that marijuana is entirely benign, and highlights the lack of education among traditionally trained medical professionals regarding lifestyle medicine. We also explore the transformative potential of psychedelics, including ketamine therapy, and the societal acceptance of addictive substances like alcohol and nicotine. Our conversation also journeys through the realm of low vibrational frequencies and spirituality, concluding with a discussion on the role of supplements in enhancing our mental and emotional well-being.  I have no doubt you will find today's conversation enlightening and thought-provoking. Stay tuned for more! IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: Drug addiction and overdose trends with fentanyl The impact of tech addiction on mental health, particularly since the pandemic The potential risks of marijuana, especially for developing brains How traditionally trained healthcare professionals lack education on lifestyle as medicine How hyper-processed foods negatively impact the gut microbiome and mental health  How oral contraceptives suppress sex hormones in young women, leading to anxiety and antidepressant use The disconnection between allopathic medicine and the impact of lifestyle on mental and emotional health  How many healthcare professionals tend to struggle with addictions How the social acceptability of nicotine and alcohol plays down their highly addictive natures The benefits of ketamine therapy for depression and trauma The importance of addressing low vibrational frequencies  Dr. Yi discusses his mental wellness supplement company, Beyond Recovery, and their flagship product, a multivitamin for the mind Bio: Dr. Joseph Yi is a board-certified Addiction Psychiatrist with a specialization in Holistic Psychiatry and Medication Detoxification (both illicit and prescribed). Dr. Stuyt is a board-certified Addiction Psychiatrist and has worked in the addiction/behavioral health field since 1990. She was the Medical Director for the Circle Program, a 90-day inpatient treatment program, funded by the state of Colorado, for persons with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse who have failed other levels of treatment from June 1999 to May 2020. She was instrumental in helping the Circle Program to become tobacco free in January 2000 and has been a strong advocate of the need to address all addictions at the same time, including tobacco, to improve outcomes. She has been actively incorporating complementary treatments into treatment programs, including the 5-point ear acupuncture NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol and BST (Brain Synchronization Therapy), to help patients recover from addiction as well as trauma which often underlie addiction and chronic pain issues. Her current mission is to educate as many people as possible on the un-intended consequences of the commercialization of marijuana in Colorado, focusing primarily on the deleterious effects of high potency THC on the developing brain.

Psychedelica Lex Episode 019: Interview of Dr. Bryon Adinoff, Addiction Psychiatrist Part 3 of 3 ____________________________________________________ Author and host, Gary Michael Smith, Esq., is a decades-experienced, AV rated, attorney, American Arbitration Association panelist, founding director of the Arizona Cannabis Bar Association, board member of the Arizona Cannabis Chamber of Commerce, and general counsel to the nation's oldest federally recognized, 501C3, multi-racial peyote church. Psychedelica Lex is the first book to offer a comprehensive survey of the laws and regulations governing psychedelic substances. ABOUT THE PSYCHEDELICA LEX PODCAST AND CHANNEL President Nixon's enactment of the Controlled Substances Act in 1970 banished most psychedelics to Schedule I, making psychedelics for most purposes illegal. However, as the Congressional Record reveals, psychedelics never got a fair trial and little scientific evidence, if any, was considered by lawmakers. Prohibition was more about politics than public health. Yet, historical record, anecdotal evidence, and scientific studies all suggest that prohibition was an unnecessary and harmful overreaction and that many benefits may be derived from psychedelics. Psychedelica Lex puts the question of psychedelics on trial. Hosted by a veteran litigation attorney, each episode will explore psychedelics from different perspectives. As we explore the evidence together, you - the audience - will serve as jurors. Together we will examine every facet. Applying the rigors of cross examination and the Socratic method, we will seek an objective truth. ____________________________________________________________ The growth, trafficking, sale, possession, or consumption of psychedelics, may be a felony punishable by imprisonment, fines, forfeiture of property, or any combination thereof. Mindfulness a Solution for Addiction? Dr. Jud Brewer  ------ If we define addiction as continued behavior despite adverse consequences, we all have cause for concern. Perhaps you're up so late watching Netflix that you make a mistake at work that costs you your job; maybe your pornography compulsion blocks real intimacy with your partner and derails your marriage; or maybe your online gambling leaves you with maxed out credit cards. It all sounds ridiculous until you focus the lens on your own life, open up your definition of what addiction means, and immediately discover that you too have maladaptive behaviors that might warrant change. On this week's podcast, you'll meet an addiction psychiatrist who helps people use mindfulness on a path toward balance.
