We had the pleasure of meeting our next guest, Alice Harrison, at her home in Columbia, Missouri. As we settled around her kitchen table, we immediately sensed her warm and inviting personality. Alice's childhood was relatively normal, growing up with her mom, dad, and sister. However, around the age of six, her parents started to have conflicts, leading to their separation. At some point, when Alice was seven or nine, her mom moved to a farm, and Alice decided to follow. This change had a profound impact on her life.Embracing the farm life, Alice joined the 4H club and became involved in raising and competing with goats. She developed a deep connection with animals, giving each chicken and horse a name. This experience fostered a sense of responsibility, care, and connection with nature. During the period of her parents' separation, Alice had the opportunity to change schools temporarily. This change allowed her to escape the labels and expectations that had been attached to her from early childhood. It was a chance for her to redefine herself, and as a result, people started to see the real Alice. After returning to her enrolled school district, Alice embarked on a remarkable journey. At the age of 21, she started her own cleaning business, which thrived and brought her significant success. However, the demands of the business eventually took a toll on her, leading to burnout. It was during this phase that Alice found herself at a crossroads, searching for a way to move forward. Driven by her passion for writing, Alice yearned for more space to explore her creativity. She embarked on a journey of self-discovery, seeking to find a balance between her entrepreneurial spirit and her artistic pursuits. Observing her as she navigates this transition promises to be an inspiring and exciting experience.Despite her young age, Alice has already lived a rich life, filled with unexpected turns and transformative moments. As we join her on this journey, we are eager to hear her stories and insights, and we can't help but wonder what the future holds for this remarkable individual. Be sure to join us as Alice shares her unique life story, offering a glimpse into her world and sparking reflections on our own aspirations and possibilities for the future. For more of Alicen check out her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alicen.hope/?fbclid=IwAR3yS3IbomhOCkFk130oacjKNrcYAMGpfKIWygxsseBHotE3xZAQXZskO-gFor more of The Jar, visit:Website: https://www.thejar.live/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Disclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded September 10th, 2022 The mantra, "A Better World is Possible" emerged in the early days of this century. Then it was a call to action to make manifest that promise by challenging those busy making the worst of Creation - destroying Nature, debasing humanity, and threatening even the survival of the planet - for the benefit of a few. I answered that clarion in this small effort, and after more than twenty years I wonder if perhaps another way to a better World is possible! Alicen Grey is a creative polymath; novelist, playwright, poet, musician, and author of HologramPress.com, "publisher of mystical musings about the paranormal, the occult, aliens, magick, the metaphysical nature of reality, and other spiritual themes..." Alicen's solo music project, When Humans Had Wings has just released 'Run Rabbit Run,' an album she describes as "synchro-mystic", and a chronicle of her "in-progress self-liberation process." Alicen Grey in the first half. And; the 38th Annual BC and Yukon Book Prizes Gala is hosted in Vancouver September 24th. This year, Testimonio: Canadian Mining in the Aftermath of Genocides in Guatelmala has been selected as a finalist for the "Jim Deva Prize for Writing That Provokes". The book is the collaborative effort of editors Catherine Nolin of the University of Northern British Columbia, and Grahame Russell of Rightsaction.org. In anticipation of the Gala evening, both Catherine and Grahame are talking about the book and the ongoing harmful impacts of Canadian companies' activities on the people of Guatemala. Grahame Russell is co-founder of RightsAction, and part-time adjunct professor at UNBC. The non-practicing lawyer has lived and worked in Mexico and Central America, contributing his talents to CODEHUCA, the Commission for the Defense of Human Rights in Central America, among other positions performed for a variety of rights organizations in the region. Grahame Russell and Testimonio in the second half. But first, Alicen Grey and exploring paths to the possible. Mistä antirasismissa on ylipäätään kyse? Työn pirstaleisuutta sivutaan myös, sillä se on jakson alumnivieraan arjessa vahvasti läsnä. Mukana keskustelussa Sofia Sahin ja Petra Keinänen. Alicen matkaa voit seurata somessa @alicejaske @mixedfinns @vantaantyttojentila tilien kautta.

Goodbye, My Rose Garden on vuoden 1900 Englantiin sijoittuva kirjallisuusteemainen yuriromanssi brittiläisen aatelisneidon ja japanilaisen sisäkön välillä. Ajankohtaisina aiheina puhumme Saiyukin tekijä Kazuya Minekuran terveysongelmien viimeisimmistä käänteistä, Twitter-kohusta joka syntyi kun ihmiset saivat kuulla että Ace Attorney -pelisarjan hahmosuunnittelija Kumiko Suekane on piirtänyt BL-omakustanteita sekä siitä, miten Sangatsu Manga julkaisee suomeksi Kenta Shinoharan scifiseikkailun Kanata no Astra. Lukujonossa tutustumme romanttiseen kiusauskomediaan Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro, minkä lisäksi Maaret on lopulta saanut luettua loppuun Mitsuru Adachin romanttisen baseball-klassikon Touch. ––– Kommentoi | Twitter | Instagram ––– - Spotify 04:33 - GOODBYE, MY ROSE GARDEN: ESITTELY - Goodbye, My Rose Garden - Dr. Pepperco - MAGxiv-digimangalehti - Ano Natsu de matteru / Waiting in the Summer 08:31 - GOODBYE, MY ROSE GARDEN: KIRJALLISUUSTEEMA - Oscar Wilde sai vankilatuomion homoseksuaalisuudesta vuonna 1895 - Arthur Conan Doyle - Salome - Jakso 31, jossa keskustelimme Kasanesta (ja jossa yksi keskeisistä näytelmistä oli Salome) - Mars Red 11:59 - GOODBYE, MY ROSE GARDEN: ALICE JA HANAKO - Alice lukee kirjoja paetakseen todellisuutta, Hanako taas pystyäkseen kohtaamaan todellisuuden (kuva) - Hanako sanoo ääneen ne asiat, joista Alice vain unelmoi (kuva) 22:18 - GOODBYE, MY ROSE GARDEN: ROMANSSI - Maria-sama ga miteru - Jakso 45, jossa puhuimme sarjasta How Do We Relationship? - Milk Morinaga - Girl Friends - Hana & Hina After School, josta puhuimme jaksossa 12 28:40 - GOODBYE, MY ROSE GARDEN: SIVUHAHMOT - Tiukka sisäkkö Susanne (kuva) - Höpsö käytettyjen kirjojen kauppias Marie (kuva) - Alicen kihlattu Edward (kuva) 36:05 - GOODBYE, MY ROSE GARDEN: TAIDE - Jakso 8, jossa puhumme Kaoru Morin taiteesta sarjassa Aron morsiamet - Kauniita vaatteita (kuva) - Kauniita taustoja (kuva) - Jakso 47, jossa puhuimme Black Rose Alicesta 41:21 - GOODBYE, MY ROSE GARDEN: SPOILERIOSIO - Ja sitten räydytään (kuva) - Fredrika Runeberg 51:38 - GOODBYE, MY ROSE GARDEN: YHTEENVETO - Class S - Jakso 36, jossa Xitty suositteli Goodbye, My Rose Gardenia LGBT-henkisenä yurisarjana 55:45 - KAZUYA MINEKURAN TERVEYSONGELMAT - Kazuya Minekura - ANN: Saiyuki's Kazuya Minekura Reveals Spinal Canal Stenosis Diagnosis, Upcoming Surgery (17.4.2021) - Minekuran twiittiketju 16.4.2021 - ANN: Saiyuki Reload Blast, Wild Adapter Manga Slow Down Due to Creator's Health (27.7.2013) - Minekuran omakuva ennen leikkausta ja leikkauksen jälkeen (kuva) - Comic Zero-Sum - ANN: Saiyuki Manga's 'Even a Worm' Arc Gets TV Anime by Liden Films - Jakso 20, jossa keskustelimme siitä, miten Gangsta-fanit kärttävät terveysongelmiensa kanssa painivaa mangaka Kohskea piirtämään sarjaa lisää. - ANN: Saiyuki Creator Kazuya Minekura Returns from Surgery (31.12.2010) 01:04:37 - REAKTIOT ACE ATTORNEY -PELIEN HAHMOSUUNNITELIJAN OMAKUSTANNETAUSTAAN - Hneryn twiittiketju siitä, millaisia reaktioita Kumiko Suekanen omakustannemenneisyys on herättänyt - Ace Attorney - Kumiko Suekane - Jakso 12, jossa puhuimme Suekanen mangasta Versailles of the Dead - Afterschool Charisma Tekijöitä jotka ovat tehneet omakustanteita: - CLAMP - Kiyohiko Azuma - Ken Akamatsu - Nio Nakatani - Masamune Shirow - Kenichi Sonoda - Maki Murakami - Rei Hiroe - Kohta Hirano - Fate/stay night - Kore Yamazaki - Ajatus: miten paljon asia liittyy siihen, miten sana “doujinshi“ tarkoittaa monille “pornomangaa“ eikä “omakustannejulkaisua“? - Kulttuurieroja - Idän lumo: Kaikki mitä Netflix sanoo animeksi ei ole animea 01:20:55 - SANGATSU MANGA JULKAISEE KANATA NO ASTRAN - Kanata no Astra - Shonen Jump Plus - Sarjan animesovitus Wakanimissa - Sket Dance 01:26:26 - HAMPAANKOLOSSA - Antti Valkaman blogipostaus uusintapainoksen ja uusintakierroksen eroista - Jakso 47, jossa puhuimme uusintapainoksen eroista Yhdysvalloissa ja Suomessa sekä Black Rose Alicesta - One Piece - Fullmetal Alchemist - Velhon morsian - Maaginen suklaapuoti 01:31:17 - KUULIJAKOMMENTTI - Maaretin Dragon Knights -pokkari, jonka kantta Fantasiapelien vanha hintalappu vahingoitti (kuva) - Message to Adolfin toiselta puolelta haalistunut selkämys (kuva) - Strobe Edge jääkaapissa (kuva) 01:47:37 - LUKUJONOSSA: DON'T TOY WITH ME, MISS NAGATORO - Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro - Animesovitus Crunchyrollissa - Kiusoitteludynamiikka (kuva) - Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai - The Elder Sister-Like One - Monster Musume - Tekijän alkuperäinen kuvasarja Nagatoro-hahmosta Pixivissä - Lukujenväliset bonuskuvat pehmentävät tilanteita (kuva) - Humble Bundle - Onko rastereista digimangan aikakaudella enemmän haittaa kuin hyötyä? - Kodanshan Humble Bundlen Nagatoron CBZ-version ja PDF-version laatuero (kuva) - Lähikuva moire-efektistä (kuva) 02:07:50 - LUKUJONOSSA: TOUCH - Jakso 39, jossa puhuimme viimeksi Touchista - Kooshienin stadioni, jossa lukiobaseballin lopputurnaukset pidetään 02:22:19 - LOPETUS

Today's Guest: Jake Teitgen Jake is a native Hoosier who lives in Noblesville, Indiana. Jake lives with three strong-willed and wonderful women: his wife, Alicen, and daughters, Julia & Genevieve. He graduated from Notre Dame in 2008 with a degree in marketing before starting work at Our Lady of Grace, a Catholic church in Noblesville. Jake coordinates youth ministry, young adult ministry, and communications at Our Lady of Grace. He also serves on the Board of Directors at Bethlehem Farm and has been inviting others to join him on adventures to this community in West Virginia since 2005. Nonprofit Spotlight: Bethlehem Farm Bethlehem Farm is a Catholic Community in Appalachia that transforms lives through service with the local community and the teaching of sustainable practices. They invite volunteers to join them in living the Gospel cornerstones of service, prayer, simplicity and community. Story of Good: Michael and Everett Michael, a high school student, was leading two weeks of service trips at Bethlehem Farm. A project that was assigned to him was to help build an extension for a man named Everett. Everett was not a very social person, but by the second week, Michael and Everett had formed an unlikely friendship that Jake was able to witness while he was doing service there. Lessons Learned: Jake shared so many wonderful nuggets of information about small nonprofit formation. Here are some of the highlights: - The importance of strategic planning (or "master planning" as he refers to it). He talked about who was involved, how their facilitator helped and how it has led to their organization being able to stay on mission. - Bethlehem Farm has an interesting base requirement for all board members- they must love the mission of Bethlehem Farm. As such, they meet three times a year for a full weekend at the Farm and then have an additional conference call in the remaining quarter of the year. - The Summer Servant Program is a great way to tap into volunteer (or small stipend) leaders who offer an amazing value to Bethlehem Farm. They've become an integral support role for the summer programs and a neat opportunity to get involved for an intense but short period of time.
